QUARANTINE Director Helming M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN'S DEVIL!

"M. Night Shyamalan and Media Rights Capital have formalized the first project in their three-picture deal to hatch fright films," according to Variety. The article continues, "Brian Nelson ("30 Days of Night") is set to write the first project, "DEVIL" which "QUARANTINE" helmer John Erick Dowdle will direct and produce with his brother, Drew Dowdle. The supernatural thriller is based on an original story by Shyamalan, who'll produce with Sam Mercer under the Night Chronicles banner. The Dowdle siblings will be executive producers. The PG-13 film will begin production next year. MRC set the Night Chronicles as a financing and production partnership with Shyamalan in July. The company's goal is to generate one genre film per year over three years, with Shyamalan hatching the ideas and overseeing the selection of talent and the creative direction. Shyamalan will co-own the film copyrights and retain artistic control while MRC makes distribution deals, as it does on all the pictures it finances." More on the original Variety post HERE!

Clive Barker's THE MADONNA Next BOOKS OF BLOOD Adaptation!

While on the set of the currently lensing DREAD, Shock Till You Drop's Ryan Rotten uncovered what the next Clive Barker adaptation will be from his legendary BOOKS OF BLOOD collection. Producer Jorge Saralegui told the site that THE MADONNA would be the next film they make, followed immediately by PIG BLOOD BLUES.

"We were looking for something to do between Dread and Pig Blood Blues. Our other projects that we have in development were not quite ready," explains Saralegui. Co-producer Joe Daley added "It's such an interesting story. The Madonna is this creature that lives in this abandoned bath house. The men that enter this cavern are slowly turned into women. You deal with such horrific fears these men share in the presence of the Madonna, in her lair, with these women that live in this place. It's a total taboo."

DEXTER Renewed For 2 More Seasons!

Showtime has renewed their hit series DEXTER for 2 more seasons according to The Hollywood Reporter. "The premium cable network has ordered 12 episodes each for Seasons 4 and 5, with the fourth season set to go into production in the spring in Los Angeles," the article says. "Dexter," which stars Michael C. Hall as a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department who moonlights as a serial killer, was nominated for five Emmys this year, including best drama series and best lead actor in a drama. The show also received a 2008 Peabody Award.

Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt credited the cast, producing team and Jeff Lindsay, author of the books on which "Dexter" is based, for the show's success.

"I thought at best we would attract a devoted cult audience but soon realized that, ironically, this show is so thematically rich and layered with humanity that audiences of all kinds have flocked to it," he said.

DEXTER airs on Showtime Sunday night's at 9pm and is currently in it's 3rd season. Season's 1 & 2 are now available on DVD.

DEXTER
stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Jimmy Smits, Julie Benz, James Remar, David Zayas, Lauren Vélez and C.S. Lee.

Bruce Campbell Discusses The Future Of THE EVIL DEAD Franchise!

If you want to immediately get ripped in front of a live audience by actor Bruce Campbell, just try asking him, "Are you going to make an EVIL DEAD 4?" and see what happens! We went out of our way to avoid that question when we spoke to him last week, but... he brought it up himself!

"Here’s a quick run down of all the EVIL DEAD stuff, because I know it keeps coming back, like a bad check", Bruce tells us. "When Sam is ready to do it, we’ll all just check our schedules. He got involved in this massive (SPIDER-MAN) franchise and it seems like its still continuing. So who knows? Who knows when the hell anyone will be able to get into another EVIL DEAD. But I think we both desire to do it. It’s just really scheduling more then anything."

Well, what about the much-talked about remake version? "As far as a remake goes, there’s nothing for me in the remake, so I wouldn’t really be involved other then being a producer, because… what am I? The old guy at the bait shop? “Hey kids! You be careful! That place is haunted!” “Oh shut up, old man!” Ya know? And they drive off into the woods."

It was recently announced that the producers of EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL were looking into making a feature-version of their classic stage show (and in 3D!) pending they can resolve rights issues. Campbell is fairly confident that we'll see EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL on the big screen. "We didn’t discourage it. They were pursuing to do that… I think it’s an issue of... Look, if there was already a play of it, as long as you just kind of document it and you could show that in movie theaters as a midnight thing, then it’s its own beast. Because it’s already so different. I don’t think there will be any issues, but we’ll see what happens."

And speaking of EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL, Bruce couldn't help but give props to Ryan Ward, the actor that portrays Ash in the original Toronto show (and in last years New York performances). "He’s terrific, and that kid has worked harder then I ever did on the original movies," laughs Campbell. "Because he’s got to go through the whole experience every freakin’ night. And sometimes even matinees! He’s got the hardest gig in show business! He’s done a really, really good job and he’s a sweet kid, and I hope he goes far. Now the gag is in his life. People will go up to him and be like, “Oh, you played Ash!”"

For our entire FRIGHT exclusive interview with Bruce Campbell, simply click the image below!

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN Director Talks Remake!

Icons Of Fright were recently invited to sit down with several other journalists and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (Låt den rätte komma in) director Tomas Alfredson for a round table interview. Among one of the many subjects to come up is the recently announced American remake of his classic film.

"I’m not involved at all," he told us. When asked if he was unhappy with the idea of someone else remaking his film for American audiences (when the original has yet to come out theatrically), he told us, "It gives you some sort of feelings of jealousy, of course. I have been dancing with this material for 3 years, and now somebody else is doing it. But, you have to put that aside and just wait and see what they come up with. And maybe they’ll find other things in that book that could be interesting. It would be very sad if they made a copy of this."

Once such thing that was excised from the novel for the movie adaptation was the nature of the relationship between Eli and her "blood supplier" Håkan. "We had to make some big choices of things we had to cut out", he tells ICONS. "The biggest thing that we left out that the character Håkan, the older “blood” supplier for Eli, he was an outspoken pedophile in the novel. So that really gave another tone to the whole thing. That’s too often used as say… an emotional special effect, without taking responsibility for what that really is. It’s a really complicated thing to debate on screen, I think. So that would’ve disturbed the story a lot to have that."

I asked Tomas if he'd be receptive if the producers of the remake or director Matt Reeves approached him for his thoughts or advice. He simply answered, "No."

Look for our entire round table interview with Tomas Alfredson later this week!

Don't forget to check out our FIRST LOOK REVIEW of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN HERE or by clicking the image below! LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (Låt den rätte komma in) was directed by Tomas Alfredson from a script by John Ajvide Lindqvist (and based on his original novel of the same name) and stars Kåre Hedebrant, Lina Leandersson, Per Ragner, Henrik Dahl, Karin Bergquist, Peter Carlberg, Ika Nord & Mikael Rahm.

Steve Niles FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND Has A Director!

I always joked with writer Steve Niles that one day, I'd like to direct an adaptation of his comic book FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND. It's my all-time favorite story from the creator of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. But alas, a director that has been tapped for the film version and I reluctantly approve.

The Hollywood Reporter says that David Gordon Green (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, SNOW ANGELS) will direct FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND for Overture Films. The script was adapted from Niles graphic novel by screenwriters Peter Sattler and Geoff Davey. Green and Dark Horse Entertainment president Mike Richardson are producing. Niles, who also wrote "30 Days of Night," is executive producing. Illustrated by Greg Ruth, Niles' six-part 2004 series about the horrible secret of a rural Middle American town involves Trevor Owen's attempts to protect his "monster" of a 6-year-old younger brother and Gristlewood Valley's other "freaks" from their parents' worst instincts.

Overture is on a role with interesting horror projects. Also on their slate are remakes of George A. Romero's THE CRAZIES (being helmed by Breck Eisner) and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (directed by CLOVERFIELD director Matt Reeves). If you haven't read FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND, search out the graphic novel!

No word on Green's proposed SUSPERIA remake, but we'll keep you posted!

Roseblood/Twisted Pictures Reviving RKO Horror Pics!

Variety reports that Andy Fickman has made a deal with Roseblood Movie Company and Twisted Pictures to godfather four remakes from RKO’s horror heyday, including three that were produced by horrormeister Val Lewton. Fickman will direct at least one of the films.

Roseblood is the horror/thriller division of RKO Pictures, and Twisted is the horror division of Evolution Entertainment, financiers and producers of the “SAW” series. The companies will co-finance the films.

The remake properties are the Jacques Tourneur-directed “I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE” (1943); the Robert Wise-directed Bela Lugosi-Boris Karloff starrer “THE BODY SNATCHER” (1945); the Mark Robson-directed Karloff starrer “BEDLAM” (1946); and the John Farrow-directed Lucille Ball-John Carradine starrer “FIVE CAME BACK” (1939).

The first three pics were produced by Lewton when he ran the horror division of the original RKO. Lewton co-wrote both “Bedlam” and “The Body Snatcher” under the pseudonym Carlos Keith.

RKO chairman Ted Hartley is producing the remakes with Twisted’s Mark Burg, Oren Koules and Carl Mazzocone. Jonathan Marshall is executive producer.

Quotes from the Variety piece:

Andy Fickman: “After Frankenstein and the Wolfman came Lewton and RKO, and what they lacked in budgets they made up for with atmosphere, imagination and great directors making horror with psychological flair. It was on the heels of WWII, when Nazi Germany showed that the scariest enemy might be the person who looked like your next door neighbor. It didn’t have to be some creature.”

RKO’s Hartley: “I have never met a filmmaker who has the level of appreciation and passion for films that Andy has for Lewton’s incredible creations.”

Chuck Palahniuk's HAUNTED Being Adapted Into "New School" Film!

Variety reports that New School Media, a production & management company launched by Former ICM lit agent Brian Levy will adapt a movie version of Chuck Palahniuk's novel HAUNTED. Koen Mortier (EX-DRUMMER) will adapt and direct.

The article continues, "Haunted" revolves around a group of characters who answer an ad for a writers retreat and unwittingly end up competing in a "Survivor"-like scenario, where the host withholds heat, power and food. As the storytellers grow more desperate they ruthlessly plot to make themselves the hero of the reality show or film that they expect will be made from their plight.

Palahniuk, author of nine novels, is popular with Hollywood filmmakers. His books "Fight Club" and "Choke" have been made into films, while "Invisible Monsters" and "Survivor" are in development.

Mortier, who also works as a commercial director, made his directorial debut with "Ex-Drummer," which premiered at last year's Toronto Film Festival."

Relativity Media Acquiring Rogue Pictures?

The Hollywood Reporter says that Relativity Media is in negotiations with Universal to acquire Rogue Pictures, the studio's genre label. The article states that "The proposed deal would see Ryan Kavanaugh's Relativity purchase more than 25 library titles, four upcoming films and more than 30 projects in development at Rogue, which was launched in 2004 as a division of Universal's Focus Features."

This would include FIGHTING (with Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard), Platinum Dunes THE UNBORN (from David Goyer & starring Gary Oldman), Wes Craven's 25/8 and LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake. Let's not forget everything on Rogue's development slate including THE STRANGERS 2, a remake of 80's teen comedy THREE O'CLOCK HIGH (No!), CASTLEVANIA and HACK/SLASH (based on the comic book). No Mrs. Voorhees In The FRIDAY THE 13TH Remake?!

There was recently a secret "test screening" of Platinum Dunes FRIDAY THE 13TH remake in Long Beach, CA and a poster on the FRIDAY THE 13TH COMMUNITY boards revealed some surprising news. Apparently Mrs. Voorhess (played by DEEP SPACE NINE's Nana Visitor) is no where to be found in the movie. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that young Jason Voorhees (played by Caleb Guss) is also absent from the current cut of the film. So did the filmmakers decide to bypass Jason's backstory in the new film? Or is it simply told by the characters, camp-fire style? Keep in mind the film is months away from release and these scenes may be re-instated. If not, we can rest assured they'll inevitably end up on the DVD release.

The new FRIDAY THE 13TH directed by Marcus Nispel and written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift (FREDDY VS JASON) was produced by Platinum Dunes Andrew Form and Brad Fuller and stars Jared Padalecki (SUPERNATURAL), Derek Mears (HILLS HAVE EYES 2), Amanda Righetti, Danielle Panabaker, Travis Van Winkle, Aaron Yoo, Adam Finberg, Nick Mennell (ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN), Jonathan Sadowski, Nana Visitor, Arlen Escarpeta, Ryan Hansen, Richard Burgi, Julianna Guill and Willa Ford. It hits theaters Friday, February 13th, 2009!

ICONS REPORT: TRICK 'R TREAT - LET THE RIGHT ONE IN NY PREMIERE!

On October 13th, FANGORIA and the Two Boot Pioneer theatre hosting a FREE double-feature screening of quite possibly the 2 best genre films of this year. Michael Dougherty's long awaited (and delayed) TRICK 'R TREAT, and the Swedish vampire flick LET THE RIGHT ONE IN from filmmaker Tomas Alfredson. TRICK 'R TREAT was scheduled to begin at 7PM, and long lines could be seen forming outside the Pioneer Theatre as early as 5PM... (Con't)

The theater was filled to maximum capacity with some patrons watching the entire movie standing in the back, and a slew of other fans turned away at the door. Despite it all, the film played to an enthusiastic crowd & not one person left for the following Q & A session with Dougherty and the film's star Dylan Baker. It's safe to say that TRICK 'R TREAT is one of the greatest Halloween-themed horror movies ever made, and everyone lucky enough to be in attendance seemed to love it. (Our FIRST LOOK review will be up shortly!) Tony Timpone, editor-in-chief for FANGORIA magazine moderated the Q & A session... (Con't)

Dougherty explained the origins of the film. How it started out as several short film ideas and how he eventually melded them into the script for TRICK 'R TREAT. Of note is that Stan Winston was the first person to really support & get behind the script, and the two even came up with the original designs for "Sam". (Particularly the Sam face underneath the mask.)

Sadly Warner Brothers still has no immediate plans to release TRICK 'R TREAT theatrically, which is a terrible, terrible shame because it should be in theaters right now! This movie seriously got me so into the Halloween spirit and I can't imagine people not wanting to check this out in October. Not every one wants to see the SAW movies in October. The main reason for the delay is apparently not knowing exactly how to market it, (well, d'uh? Try releasing it on Halloween?) and that it's an anthology and rather dark. (Isn't horror supposed to be?) ... (Con't)

Dougherty also talked about being a fan of Dylan Baker's from HAPPINESS and how that performance convinced him that Baker would be perfect for the role of Steven the "Principle" (which of course he was). He also told the audience he'd love to tackle either a sequel and or prequel if this first film would ever get a release! ... (Con't)

As soon as the Q & A session was over, we had to exit the theater and get back on line again for LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. We were shocked to discover an even bigger line waiting for us outside! I asked the gentleman behind me where he heard about the screening and he said he just happened to walk by and saw it on the marquee. ... (Con't)

Once again, the theater was filled to the max with several patrons standing in the back the entire time. I had already seen the movie once (read FIRST LOOK REVIEW HERE!), but I was excited at the prospect of seeing it with an audience and on the big screen.

Fellow audience members will have to forgive me for the following - Having already seen the movie, I noticed at the 20 minute mark that the projectionist missed an entire reel and the movie jumped ahead by almost 20 minutes, leaving out tons of pivital plot points in the story. I immediately ran out to tell the theater programmer and they ended up stopping the film and putting on the appropriate reel. In typical New York fashion, once the 3rd reel repeated, the entire impatient audience was sighing aloud not having realized that they were watching the movie in the appropriate order now. (Hey, it's a foreign film! You have to have patience.) Regardless of the slight flub, the film worked incredibly well with an audience, and it made for a fantastic double feature.

Multiple kudos to both FANGORIA and the Two Boots for putting on what appeared to be their biggest screenings ever.

TRICK 'R TREAT was written & directed by Michael Dougherty (X-MEN 2, SUPERMAN RETURNS), produced by Bryan Singer (THE USUAL SUSPECTS, X-MEN) and stars Quinn Lord, Brian Cox (RED, MANHUNTER, X-MEN 2), Leslie Bibb (MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, IRON MAN), Dylan Baker (SPIDER-MAN 2, HAPPINESS), Rochelle Aytes, Anna Paquin (from HBO's TRUE BLOOD), Moneca Delain, Lauren Lee Smith, Tahmoh Penikett, Lauren Lee Smith, Britt McKillip, Isabelle Deluce, Jean-Luc Bilodeau & Samm Todd.

"V" To Return to Primetime-Original Creator Not Involved

In the early 1980's, sci-fi miniseries "V", the alien-human Holocaust allegory scored record ratings, spawned a sequel, "V: The Final Battle", and the short lived but well made "V: The Series". Now ABC is set to revive the cult classic for a new franchise, according to Variety. The new show, produced by "The 4400" creator Scott Peters will not try to replicate the original except that "the new "V" will still focus on what happens when the masses have blind faith in their leaders."

The 80's series focused on seemingly benevolent aliens coming to Earth with the the promise of sharing advanced technology in exchange for some help with their ailing planet. Unfortunately for the human race while they looked human underneath they were secretly lizard-like creatures who'd come to steal our water and enslave us.

Original series creator Kenneth Johnson had been trying to get a sequel to the original series off the ground for several years without success. Earlier this year Johnson released his sequel in the form of the novel "V: The Second Generation".

The original "V" series also featured many horror genre veterans such as Marc Singer, Robert Englund, Michael Ironside, Leonard Cimino, Jane Badler, and Faye Grant in early roles as both human and alien.

While the prospect of a series without Johnson disappoints us, we cannot lie...

We're "V fans.

2 Video Clips From This Sunday's New DEXTER Episode "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"!

Showtime's official website has posted 2 short video clips from this Sunday night's new episode of DEXTER titled "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Check them out below!

DEXTER stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Jimmy Smits, Julie Benz, James Remar, David Zayas, Lauren Vélez and C.S. Lee.

Shaun Evans Cast In Clive Barker's DREAD!

Shock Till You Drop is reporting that Shaun Evans has joined the cast of the latest Clive Barker BOOKS OF BLOOD adaptation, DREAD, currently prepping to shoot in England later this month. The 28-year-old actor will be portraying the lead character Quaid who in the original short story is obsessed with turning people's fear against them. He joins the recently announced Jackson Rathbone (TWILIGHT, S. DARKO) with Anthony DiBlasi writing & directing. Matador and Essential Entertainment are producing the feature. More when we hear it!

Kevin Smith Talks RED STATE!

Quint from Aint It Cool recently sat down to chat with filmmaker Kevin Smith about his latest comedy ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO (starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks) and the subject of his long-mooted horror film RED STATE came up. He told the site, "I'm still trying to find money for Red State, though, admittedly, I haven't been looking that hard yet, since it's not something I'm gonna get to 'til March the earliest. Early prospects, however, look dim. Problem is, the flick is bleak. Beyond bleak, even. Remember how bleak Dark Knight was? This flick makes the bleakness level in that flick seem Beverly Hills Chihuahua bleak. Sadly, while the flick's bleaker than Dark Knight, it's also not nearly as good as Dark Knight. Or as commercial. Or commercial at all, really. The commercial prospects for Red State are not good. The only chance it'll have at the box office would be if it caught a water cooler-kinda buzz out of a film festival. So when you go down the checklist (overtly bleak, unlikeable characters making horrible decisions, unhappy ending in which everyone dies, a director of questionable talent who's never worked in this genre before), you can see why folks aren't whipping out their check books."

"The question, then, would be "Why bother?" For some reason, I feel like I've gotta make this flick. Part of the reason is that I never really feel like a filmmaker most days; more of a writer who gets to direct his own flicks. Trying my hand at another genre that's 180 degrees away from anything else I've ever done might finally answer the question (for me) of whether or not I truly am a filmmaker, or just the guy who makes the dick and fart jokes movies. I suspect it's the latter. I guess we'll see. Maybe."

"The flick I wanna do after that is a comedy set in space. Unsurprisingly, it's been 100% easier to find the money for that one - even with only half the script done. It'll likely cost about double Zack and Miri's $24million budget, so it'll be the most expensive flick I've ever made. Hopefully, it's as well-received as Zack and Miri has been so far."

You can read the entire interview over at Aint It Cool's site right HERE!

THE ORPHANAGE Director Takes On HATER!

Variety reports that Juan Antonio Bayona (director of last year's THE ORPHANAGE) will direct HATER, the Glen Mazzara-scripted adaptation of British author David Moody's thriller novel about an epidemic of violence perpetrated by ordinary people. (Sound's a bit like THE SIGNAL, but I'm not familiar with the source material yet.) Guillermo del Toro and Mark Johnson are producing.

The report continues, "Del Toro produced "The Orphanage," which was made in Bayona's home country of Spain on a modest budget and grossed more than $76 million worldwide. "HATER" landed at Universal under del Toro's first-look deal there. Mazzara, a writer on "The Shield," was set at that time. Del Toro was originally approached by Johnson to direct, but his schedule on two installments of "THE HOBBIT" made that impossible. The producers then turned to Bayona. "I like the idea of a movie that talks about the state of fear we live in nowadays," Bayona told Daily Variety. The film is set in the U.S., and while exteriors will be shot locally when the film gets under way next year, Johnson hopes to shoot the interiors in Spain. Original Variety piece HERE!

THE CRAZIES Remake Begins Production Next Year

Variety reports that Overture Films will produce and distribute the much delayed remake of George Romero's THE CRAZIES early next year. Unfortunately, Brad Anderson is no longer attached as director. Instead, we've got Breck Eisner. The article says, "The redo will be directed by Breck Eisner from a script by Ray Wright and Scott Kosar. Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris will produce; Romero will serve as executive producer." Oddly, anytime asked, Romero often says he knows nothing about the remake, nor is he ever asked to take part in it. "Crazies" revolves around people in a small Kansas town who are beset by a virus that causes insanity and death after a mysterious toxin contaminates the local water supply. Project was previously set up at Rogue Pictures and Paramount. Overture CEO Chris McGurk and chief operating officer Danny Rosett felt it was a good fit for the company's expanding slate. "We've been trying to move into horror fare that is clever and smart," McGurk said. Production is set to begin early next year. Original Variety piece HERE.

Vintage Videos From The WRONG TURN 2 NY Premiere!

In honor of the 5 FRIGHTFEST short-films that Joe Lynch and Adam Green put together and posted on-line this past month, we've decided to share with you 2 rarely seen videos. About a year ago, a few days prior to the release of WRONG TURN 2: DEAD END, Fox had scheduled for 2 theatrical screenings of WRONG TURN 2 on the big screen. One was set for New York, while the other one was set for LA. Unfortunately, both screenings were set for the exact same evening, and director Joe Lynch couldn't make it back to his native New York to see the flick with his family. (Long Island, represent!)

The ICONS crew had prepared in advance to make something a little special from the screening for Joe. Adam Barnick brought his camera and planned to film audience reactions and thoughts following the screening with Joe's family, friends and fans. Much to our surprise, Joe himself has surprised us with a special video introduction that started the entire evening off, mentioning and thanked the ICONS crew. So below are those 2 videos. The first being Joe's video introduction to the NY premiere of WRONG TURN 2 (note: it played at the Two Boots which is part pizza-place), and the second being ICONS video to Joe from the premiere. ENJOY!

Guillermo Del Toro Talks His Version Of FRANKENSTEIN!

Coming Soon.net caught up with Guillermo Del Toro at The New Yorker Festival and got an update on his upcoming 2-picture adaptation of THE HOBBIT. The article mentions that he'll be wrapped up in Middle Earth until 2012 with the 2 HOBBIT movies and is then booked solid until 2017 with DR. JEKYL AND MR. HYDE, his Lovecraft adaptation of AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, his vampire trilogy of books (read more about that HERE) and his proposed version of FRANKENSTEIN.

According to Coming Soon, Del Toro is an acknowledged fan of "Frankenstein." He has busts of Boris Karloff as the monster in his house. One of his biggest filmic influences, the 1973 Spanish film The Spirit of the Beehive, revolves around a showing of the classic Universal Frankenstein. He has raved about Bernie Wrightson's illustrated version and the original Frank Darabont script eventually filmed as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein by Kenneth Branagh in '94 and all-but-disowned by Darabont. Del Toro's version, however, sounds decidedly different…

"I'm not doing 'Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.' I'm doing an adventure story that involves the creature. I cannot say much, but it's not the central creation story, I'm not worried about that. The fact is I've been dreaming of doing a 'Frankenstein' movie since I was a child. The one thing I can promise is, compared to Kenneth Branagh, I will not appear shirtless in the movie!"

You can read more on FRANKENSTEIN and THE HOBBIT at the original article HERE!

First Image Of Jensen Ackles In MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D!

Lionsgate has released the first publicity still of SUPERNATURAL's Jensen Ackles from the upcoming MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D! (Below) Based on the 1981 cult horror, My Bloody Valentine 3D, directed by Patrick Lussier, tells a tale of Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), a man who caused an accident in a coal mine in the town of Harmony, killing five men and putting one into a coma. That man, Harry Warden, wakes from his coma one year on with his mind set on revenge. Somewhat overzealous in his definition of revenge, he brutally murders 22 people before being killed himself.

Ten years on, Hanniger returns to Harmony hoping to make up for his past. His ex-girlfriend, Sarah (Jaime King), has married his former best friend (Kerr Smith). But that's really the least of his worries, since a killer wearing a miner's mask and armed with a pick axe has started, well, picking off the townsfolk. Is it Harry Warden back for revenge? We don't know! We just don't know! Run!

MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D was directed by Patrick Lussier (DRACULA 2000) from a script by Todd Farmer (JASON X) & Zane Smith and stars SUPERNATURAL's Jensen Ackles, Jaime King (THE TRIPPER), Kerr Smith (FINAL DESTINATION), Edi Gathegi, Kevin Tighe & Megan Boone.

Director Found For 28 MONTHS LATER?

Apparently there's talk of a sequel to 28 DAYS LATER and 28 WEEKS LATER called (wait for it...) 28 MONTHS LATER. This is somewhat surprising considering 28 WEEKS LATER didn't do so well at the US box office, but perhaps it fared better overseas? Regardless, I loved the sequel and would be curious to see another follow-up, especially if this rumored director is attached. Arrow In The Head overheard that Paul Andrew Williams, director of THE COTTAGE (starring frequent Peter Jackson actor Andy Serkis) is in talks to helm the 2nd sequel. No more details besides that, which you can find at Arrow's site HERE! THE COTTAGE was actually a pretty cool little horror film with a dash of black comedy. Check it out if you get a chance. More when we hear it!

First 5 Minutes Of BLINDNESS!

Ok, I'm not sure what the deal is with BLINDNESS, other then the fact it was helmed by the director of CITY OF GOD... but the basic premise and TV spots I've seen thus far scare the crap out of me. Now, Yahoo is offering you a chance to see the first 5 minutes of the film on-line! BLINDNESS was directed by Fernando Meirelles and stars Don McKellar, Julianne Moore (HANNIBAL), Mark Ruffalo (ZODIAC), Danny Glover (SAW) and Alice Braga. George Romero's... ISLAND OF THE DEAD?

A few days back, rumor had it that George A. Romero had started shooting a new zombie movie that was not a sequel to this year's DIARY OF THE DEAD. Now, Variety confirms this news with a plot synopsis to the as-yet-to-be-titled new Romero movie that's tentatively going by the name ISLAND OF THE DEAD. (Hey, I dig that.)

According to Variety's article, the "Plot involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure. The cast includes Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh (TWIN PEAKS), Kathleen Munroe, Devon Bostick (SAW IV), Richard Fitzpatrick, Stefano Colacitti and Athena Karkanis (SAW IV)."

Meanwhile, Aint It Cool has a few "spy" photos from the production which you can check out HERE!

From acclaimed novelists Ted Dekker and Frank Perreti, Roadside Attractions presents: HOUSE, (no, it's not a remake of the 1986 horror film HOUSE with William Katt, George Wendt & Richard Moll!) This HOUSE opens Friday, November 7, 2008.

On a deserted back road in Alabama , Jack and Stephanie find themselves driving fast and running late. Their world suddenly changes when a strange accident leaves them stranded with no car, no cell phone coverage, and no help in sight. They have no choice except to continue on foot. As darkness approaches, they round a bend and see a small sign at the top of a long gravel driveway: The Wayside Inn.

The exhausted couple stands in front of an inviting house, complete with gated stone wall, ancient oak trees, and a note welcoming weary travelers. Inside they find another couple with an equally troubling story about a similar accident. It seems that backwoods pranksters have made their day miserable. Still, they are safe . . .

Or so they think.

ANGEL HEART Gets The Remake Treatment?

Michael De Luca has partnered with Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta to develop a bigscreen remake of the 1987 Mickey Rourke supernatural thriller ANGEL HEART, reports Variety. The article continues, "Producers optioned remake rights from a private U.K. firm, which owns the rights to the original film, which was produced by Carolco and distributed by TriStar. De Luca, Rosenzweig and Gaeta also optioned the underlying book rights to William Hjortsberg's novel "Falling Angel," from which original film was adapted.

Original film, which caused a stir for its steamy sex scenes, was written and directed by Alan Parker and also starred Robert De Niro and Lisa Bonet.

Novel follows the exploits of Harry Angel, a New York detective hired by a mysterious client to track down a once-popular performer indebted to him. While pursuing this seemingly routine investigation, Harry encounters dark and supernatural forces.

De Luca, whose recent producing credits include "21" and "Ghost Rider," said he has long been a fan of the novel. "It's a great blend of genres with a great Faustian bargain, compelling, universal themes and a rare combination of literary and commercial appeal," he said."

Jason Voorhees Unmasked! Behind The Scenes Pics From FRIDAY THE 13TH!

Horrorbid.com posted several behind the scenes photos from the set of Platinum Dunes' FRIDAY THE 13TH remake revealing the unmasked Jason Voorhees! Now, few things. Naturally, Derek Mears face isn't completely covered in make-up in these photos, so no doubt the full Jason face "reveal" will look slightly different then what you'll see at the Horrorbid link. Second, I personally hate a spoiler of this caliber. The most fun thing about the FRIDAY THE 13TH flicks is the Jason reveal usually saved for the last 10 minutes of each movie. So below are 3 non-spoiler images from the site. If you want to see more, click HERE at your own risk! Enjoy!

The new FRIDAY THE 13TH directed by Marcus Nispel and written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift (FREDDY VS JASON) stars Jared Padalecki (SUPERNATURAL), Derek Mears (HILLS HAVE EYES 2), Amanda Righetti, Danielle Panabaker, Travis Van Winkle, Aaron Yoo, Adam Finberg, Nick Mennell (ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN), Jonathan Sadowski, Nana Visitor, Arlen Escarpeta, Ryan Hansen, Richard Burgi, Julianna Guill and Willa Ford. It hits theaters Friday, February 13th, 2009!

TWILIGHT Actor Cast In Clive Barker's DREAD!

Jackson Rathbone has been cast in the upcoming Clive Barker adaptation of DREAD, based on the short story from his legendary BOOKS OF BLOOD. (It's a real sicko tale too!) Anthony DiBlasi is writing and directing DREAD, which "tells the story of Quaid, a student of philosophy, who is obsessed by his own nightmare of an ax-murdering clown so he concocts a series of experiments to observe firsthand how other people react to the things that most horrify them. But while Quaid slowly unpeels the psyches of his imprisoned and tortured captives like a reeking onion, his own dread waits, just beyond his control." Rathbone (who plays Jasper in TWILIGHT and also appears in the upcoming S. DARKO) will be playing the role of Stephen Grace in DREAD. Shooting begins this October for a release sometime next year.

Romero's New Zombie Flick NOT A Sequel To DIARY OF THE DEAD?

George A. Romero recently started shooting what was believed to be the sequel to DIARY OF THE DEAD in Toronto, Canada, but now reports are indicating that Romero's latest "zombie" opus is not DIARY OF THE DEAD 2. Uncle George told SchlockAroundtheClock.com, "the story starts with the blonde who drove away (in DIARY OF THE DEAD) and the national guardsmen who robbed the people. So those are the only characters that return. What it's about is tribalism. How the Internet creates a Hatfields and McCoys situation. It's on an island, where people have been lured by someone on the net as a safe haven, but really what these guys are trying to do is hold them up at the boat docks."

Meanwhile producer Nicolas Chartier chatted with movieset.com and told them, "We're shooting underwater zombies. They're swimming, grabbing people's legs, pulling them down. It's a lot of fun."

Bill Murray Talks GHOSTBUSTERS 3!

This news is a couple of days old but worth mentioning regardless - At the screening of Gil Kenan's new film CITY OF EMBER at FANTASTIC FEST, Bill Murray was the surprise guest and fielded some  questions from the audience after the movie. The subject of the recently announced GHOSTBUSTERS 3 came up and here's what Bill had to say:

"Well, I think the wounds from GHOSTBUSTERS 2 have healed. And supposedly they've got 2 guys from THE OFFICE to write a script? That could work, I think that's a good idea to get a fresh look at it. I've always liked the characters, the characters were fun. And we did have a lot of fun making the movie, the first one was really a lot of fun to make. I think the first 45 minutes of GHOSTBUSTERS is about as funny as a movie gets. We didn't have a lot of special effect in it, it was just a couple. It was just the funny characters in that world, and I liked that movie because of it. I think the first movie had something like 60 plate shots or something like that? The second one had hundreds. The special (FX) guys got their hands on the script early (for GHOSTBUSTERS 2) and it was just gone. It went away. The script went away. It was hard to wrangle because it was tied all around the FX without story coming first or the characters moving through it, so - they're hard movies to write. And Dan really caught it with that first one. He really caught it. And it's fun. Characters are fun to do. We did the video game this summer and it was fun to do it again. I found myself walking down 5th Avenue singing the song! People (walking by) were like 'God, that guy's really full of himself'"

The original GHOSTBUSTERS was directed by Ivan Reitman from a script by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts. The new GHOSTBUSTERS is currently being scripted by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.

CLOVERFIELD Director Set To LET THE RIGHT ONE IN!

Tomas Alfredson's Swedish film "Lat Den Ratte Komma In" (LET THE RIGHT ONE IN) based on a novel by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist, is set to be remade for American audiences by Matt Reeves, the director of CLOVERFIELD. Variety reports "Director Matt Reeves will write and direct the vampire tale "Let the Right One In" for Overture Films and Hammer Films. The movie is the first in a two-picture co-production, financing and distribution pact between Overture and HS Media, parent of Hammer and Spitfire Films. Hammer acquired remake rights at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. where the film won the Founders Award for narrative feature. Overture is planning to release the remake next year."

Magnolia Pictures is planned a brief limited theatrical run of the original Swedish film in LA and NY starting October 24th, and in Seattle, WA on November 24th. A DVD release is planned for shortly thereafter. We'll keep you posted both on the DVD of the original and status of the American remake!

GUILLERMO DEL TORO Working On Vampire Novel Trilogy?!

Good lord! As if Guillermo Del Toro didn't have enough on his plate! (Read our Guillermo Del Toro booked through 2017 story HERE!) Now the filmmaker is adding a trilogy of vampire books to his forever growing "to do" list. From the imdb:

"Moviemaker Guillermo Del Toro can add novelist to his resume - he is set to release a trilogy of vampire stories. The Hellboy director will collaborate with revered crime writer Chuck Hogan on the three tales, with the first - entitled THE STRAIN - due to hit stores next summer.

Del Toro says, "The idea is epic in scope. The trilogy advances in unexpected ways and each book contains unique and surprising revelations about the history, physiology and lore of the vampiric race, tracing its roots all the way back to its Old Testament origins."

It is not known whether Del Toro plans to adapt the trilogy for the big screen. "

Del Toro of course helmed BLADE 2, this writer's personal favorite of that series, so I'm excited at the prospect of Del Toro tackling the vampire genre again!

Is Dario Argento's BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE Being Remade?

IGN has a fantastic chat with famed Italian director Dario Argento about his huge body of genre work. The subject of remakes came up, and Argento mentioned the SUSPERIA remake (being helmed by PINEAPPLE EXPRESS director David Gordon Green and rumored to star Natalie Portman) as well as (surprisingly) a remake to BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE.

Argento tells IGN, "Yes. I know now I think somebody wants to remake the film Suspiria. I don't know how this film will be, but I think people are interested in this because it's different. It's easy to understand – it's different from other kinds of films, horror or thriller. The walls inside are very strong, very important to describe it. I think somebody also wants to remake Bird With the Crystal Plumage (laughs). I hear that somebody wants to do that, but this is much more difficult to remake because there's a link to Italy in the 1970s, which is a little bit difficult to do. But if somebody wants to do that, okay (laughs)."

IGN: What do you think about the trend of doing remakes? Have we just run out of ideas or do you think there's something valuable in taking an older text and reimagining it for a new audience?

Argento: "No, it's interesting to remake a film for the contemporary audience today. I think it's a good idea; it needs to respect the original idea. Don't just take the title and change everything else. No, you must follow the idea, otherwise why buy the rights for this film just to do another thing?"

AMERICAN PSYCHO... The Musical?!

I bet you that Bret Easton Ellis never in a million years could've predicted that his disturbing novel for AMERICAN PSYCHO would one day not only be adapted into a film, but... a Broadway musical?!

The Hollywood Reporter says, "Producers are betting Bret Easton Ellis' novel and screen adaptation AMERICAN PSYCHO will translate to a stage musical, with original 1980s-inspired songs and familiar covers of hits from the era. The Johnson-Roessler Co.'s David Johnson, Craig Roessler and Jesse Singer, the Collective's Aaron Ray and XYZ Films' Nate Bolotin have partnered to acquire, develop and produce the tale of violent Wall Street investment banker Patrick Bateman. Ellis and Edward R. Pressman, the producer of Mary Harron's 1999 film adaptation, will serve as consulting producers."

The article continues, "No director, book writer or songwriters have yet been brought on board the project, but producers say they're in early talks with some potential dramatists and hope to stage by 2010 with an eye for Broadway."

"Musical killers have had mixed success onstage, from the acclaimed "Sweeney Todd" and tepidly received "Assassins" to the disastrous "Carrie."

Johnson said that, aside from a love of the controversial 1991 Simon & Schuster bestseller, his main inspiration for staging the project is "the great economic divide in this country." Citing his years as a Wall Street lawyer in the '80s, he said he's aiming for a tone that's "very real, (though) obviously exaggerated."

Singer added that they hoped the musical would retain the book's satire and its "electric charge, which inspired both fans and haters." Its depiction of violence against women inspired protest when it was published."

"Music rights have not yet been secured, but producers hope to include songs by such bands as Talking Heads, Genesis and Huey Lewis and the News mentioned extensively in the novel."

The original 2000 film AMERICAN PSYCHO was written & directed by Mary Harron adapted from the novel by Bret Easton Ellis and starred a relatively unknown Christian Bale (THE DARK KNIGHT, TERMINATOR: SALVATION), Jared Leto (FIGHT CLUB), Chloe Sevigny, Reese Witherspoon, Samantha Mathis and Willem Dafoe.

ALIENS VS PREDATOR Franchise Done? But PREDATOR 3 Possible?

Collider.com recently chatted with producer John Davis and in the interview, Davis essentially declared the ALIENS VS PREDATOR franchise dead. He says, "I think we’ve logically done what we could’ve done with the two AVP movies. But I think there’s something to go back to with Predator." Oh my... As a fan, I'd like to think they could've done a hell of a lot better then those 2 movies.

But I'm optimistic with the idea of another solo PREDATOR movie! Especially if it means the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger like implied in the following quote. "Well, the Governor has mentioned to me that when he ceases to be Governor, if he doesn’t run for the Senate and all of that stuff, he’d like to do a movie or two again. And I don’t know, maybe we could restart the Predator franchise. Well we’d have to come up with a really good script and a really great angle on it, but Predator was the first movie I was ever involved with, so it’s always going to have a really soft spot in my heart."

How 'bout you guys call Robert Rodriguez up? I hear he's got an epic script for PREDATOR 3 that's been floating around for years!

THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE DVD & Blu-Ray Details!

Fox Home Entertainment has set December 2nd, 2008 as the release date for both the DVD and Blu-Ray release of THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE. The sequel arrives in 3 different formats; a single disc, a 3-disc special edition and a loaded-to-the-brim Blue-Ray release. The truth is finally out there on DVD and Blu-ray! Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment presents The X-Files: I Want To Believe, a gripping feature film based on the global phenomenon that descends onto DVD and Blu-ray Disc (BD) on December 2nd. Marking the Studio’s first foray into BD-Live, The X-Files: I Want To Believe BD release takes full advantage of the high-def format’s “web-enhanced” functionality with exclusive features, games, additional content and connectivity to other BD-Live users and X-Files fans nationwide. “The X-Files Dossier” allows BD-Live connected users to create their own Special Agent avatar that can browse through Agent Dakota Whitney’s case files on clairvoyance and post their own notes and theories to her files online and download other profiles directly to their BD player memory files; plus fans can become an agent-in-training by helping Agent Drummy solve several forensic challenges (with new cases posted weekly to the studio supported BD-Live web portal for the first several weeks of release). Additional BD-exclusive features include picture-in-picture commentary with series creator Chris Carter and producer Frank Spotnitz along with “The X-Files” Complete Interactive Timeline on-screen track chronicling the entire series mythology.

Plus fans can also delve deeper than ever before with “The Ultimate X-Phile Edition” DVD and BD packed with over three hours of bonus features content including an unrated “Extended Cut” of the film with never-before-seen footage seamlessly branched back into the movie plus the all-new feature-length documentary “Trust No One” that reveals exciting secrets about “The X-Files” universe.

“Releasing The X-Files: I Want To Believe as our first BD-Live release was a natural,” noted Mary Daily, Executive Vice President, North America Marketing. “One of the most compelling elements of The X-Files franchise is how the mythology inspires fans to create and share their own theories about the characters and storylines. The extras on this release take full advantage of the BD-Live technology and bring that interactive experience to a level never before possible.”

A standalone story described as a “skillful thriller” (Roger Ebert; Chicago Sun-Times) that picks up six years after the series ended, The X-Files: I Want To Believe finds Fox Mulder (David Duchovny; “Californication”) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson; The Last King of Scotland) reunited after leaving their careers at the F.B.I. behind them. Forgotten by their former employer that ignored their unique investigations, the duo is called upon once again when several women begin to disappear and body parts turn up buried in the snow of the Virginia wilderness. With Mulder’s steadfast belief in the paranormal and Scully’s ever present skepticism, the investigation leads them to a shocking discovery that tests their faith and questions what is truly possible. Directed by series creator Chris Carter (“Millennium”) from a story he penned with executive producer Frank Spotnitz, The X-Files: I Want To Believe features an ensemble cast that includes Billy Connolly (The Boondock Saints), Amanda Peet (“Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”), Xzibit (Gridiron Gang, 8 Mile) and the return of series veteran Mitch Pileggi as F.B.I Assistant Director Walter Skinner.

Synopsis: Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny re-team to unravel a bizarre case right out of “The X-Files.” Amidst an eerily deceptive calm, F.B.I. agent Monica Bannan is abducted. Not only does the search for the missing woman ignite sparks between partners Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny), it defies the boundaries of science, the supernatural and the terrifying spaces in between!

HBO's TRUE BLOOD Already Renewed For 2nd Season!

From the press release issued by HBO:

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 17, 2008 - HBO has renewed the new drama series TRUE BLOOD for a second season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, Programming Group and West Coast Operations. Created by Alan Ball, the series will begin production of new episodes early next year in Los Angeles, with debut set for summer 2009.

"We are absolutely thrilled that the critics and our viewers have embraced TRUE BLOOD," noted Lombardo. "Alan Ball has done it again - made an addictive series that is unlike any other."

"I am thrilled to be able to continue to work with such a talented group of writers, cast and crew to explore the characters and world created by Charlaine Harris in her novels," Ball said. "It really is a joy to go to work every day and I couldn't be happier to be back home at HBO."

The Sept. 7 debut episode is proving to be a hit with HBO audiences, attracting more than four million viewers to date, while the debut of the second episode on Sept. 14 posted an unprecedented 24% gain in viewers over the first week's debut.

Critics across the country in Detroit, Baltimore, Denver and Orlando have proclaimed TRUE BLOOD one of the best new shows on TV. USA Today called it "wildly imaginative," with "one of the best ensembles of the new series," while the Washington Post found it "audacious, outrageous and playfully grisly." TV Guide hailed the show as "graphically sexy and scary, and often wildly funny," and "a broadly entertaining, deliciously twisted slice of modern Southern Gothic."

Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, TRUE BLOOD takes place in the not-too-distant future, when vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans for their fix. Set in a backwoods Louisiana town, the show follows the romance between waitress Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin), who can read minds, and 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (played by Stephen Moyer). Alan Ball (creator of the Emmy(r)-winning HBO series "Six Feet Under") created and executive produced the show, as well as wrote and directed episodes of the series, which is based on the popular Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

The cast also includes Ryan Kwanten as Sookie's brother Jason, Rutina Wesley as her best friend Tara Thornton, Sam Trammell as Sookie's good-hearted boss Sam Merlotte and Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette Reynolds, a cook at Merlotte's

Season one credits: TRUE BLOOD is created by and executive produced by Alan Ball; based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris; co-executive producer, Brian Buckner; supervising producer, Nancy Oliver; produced by Carol Dunn Trussell; producer, Alexander Woo; co-producer, Raelle Tucker.

Season one directors: Alan Ball, John Dahl, Nick Gomez, Anthony M. Hemingway, Michael Lehmann, Daniel Minahan, Nancy Oliver, Marcos Siego, Scott Winant. Season one writers: Alan Ball, Brian Buckner, Chris Offutt, Nancy Oliver, Raelle Tucker, Alexander Woo.

Kirstin Dunst Toplines A JEALOUS GHOST!

Spider-Man actress Kirsten Dunst is set to star in and produce A JEALOUS GHOST, which filmmaker Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego is attached to direct for Paramount Vintage. The Hollywood Reporter says, "Screenwriter Megan Holley, who adapted the A.N. Wilson novel, is doing another short pass on the script before Vantage hopes to push it into production."

Wilson's 2005 novel describes a young American woman who travels to London to write a dissertation on Henry James' classic ghost tale, "The Turn of the Screw," only to find that her own circumstances begin to reflect the strange happenings of the story.

This literary horror project could be a priority for the newly reconstituted Vantage, which is looking to reshape its image. In July, the specialty division's marketing, physical production and distribution departments were woven into those of Paramount proper, and the staff was requisitely streamlined. Its next film, the Keira Knightley starrer "The Duchess," bows Friday.

Lopez-Gallego was featured as one of the 10 Latino filmmakers to watch in The Hollywood Reporter's Aug. 20 issue. ICONS EXCLUSIVE: Tom Holland's Director Commentary For CHILD'S PLAY! FREE DOWNLOAD!

Last week MGM put out a new special anniversary edition of CHILD'S PLAY on DVD, dubbed as “CHUCKY’S 20TH BIRTHDAY EDITION.” While loaded with plenty of new features and extras, there was one thing that was notably absent from the DVD release… The director of the film, Tom Holland. For whatever reason, the producers on the DVD decided to exclude him from the disc. It’s fairly obvious when you hold up the first film to all of its sequels, that it was the craft of a director like Holland that made CHILD'S PLAY the genre classic that it is. Had the first film not worked, there wouldn’t have been a franchise. So, we felt we should give fans what they deserve - a commentary from the man who directed Chucky's first outing.

We contacted Tom and asked if he'd be interested in recording a CHILD'S PLAY commentary track for ICONS OF FRIGHT. And sure enough, he was thrilled to...

Moderated by filmmaker and new ICONS staffer Tim Sullivan, below is a link to the CHILD'S PLAY director's commentary, which you can download ... for FREE. (Right click and select "save target as")

Tim will guide you at the beginning of the track to queue up your DVD with their audio track. This is our gift on behalf of Tom Holland, Tim Sullivan and ICONS OF FRIGHT to you, the fans.

Sullivan is also planning for several more of these as part of his new ICONS exclusive on-going column SHOCK N ROLL. (Check out the first issue HERE!) His second issue debuting later this week will feature a lengthy interview with Tom Holland, and include 2 new FRIGHT NIGHT commentaries.

ICONS OF FRIGHT and SHOCK N ROLL are firm believers in the preservation of the films that we grew up with and consider classics. So, we’ll do our best to continue to bring “pirate” commentaries of this quality via Tim’s SHOCK N ROLL column right here on ICONS OF FRIGHT.com.

ENJOY!

CHILD'S PLAY was written & directed by Tom Holland from a story by Don Mancini and starred Chris Sarandon, Catherine Hicks, Alex Vincent and Brad Dourif as Charles Lee Ray (aka Chucky). Produced by David Kirschner, the 1988 horror hit went on to spawn 4 sequels and is now on the cusp of a new remake. (More on that HERE!)

FRIDAY THE 13TH: Uncut & Restored DVD Coming?

It was rumored several months back that Paramount was readying a new FRIDAY THE 13TH DVD boxed set to conveniently coincide with the release of the Platinum Dunes remake. Now, it seems we have confirmation at least of an "uncut and restored" version of the original FRIDAY THE 13TH.

According to a blog post on FridayThe13thFilms.com, at the recent "SCARE FEST" convention, Adrienne King, Betsy Palmer, Harry Manfredini, Tom Savini and were all on hand for a reunion panel and "a representative from Paramount stated that the upcoming release of Friday the 13th on DVD would be fully restored and uncut version including the extended sequences."

Although we can't confirm it yet, we've heard rumors that Paramount was actually releasing a boxed set of only FRIDAY THE 13TH's 1 through 3. Seems odd, but until we hear confirmation, at least we can rest assured the first film will be a special edition.

The first FRIDAY THE 13TH hit an unsuspecting audience in 1980 and was directed by Sean S. Cunningham from a script by Victor Miller. It starred Adrienne King, Kevin Bacon and Betsy Palmer as the notorious Mrs. Voorhees and featured the innovative FX of Tom Savini.

Director Talks MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D!

Fright friend Eric over at Bloody Good Horror.com recently had the chance to sit down with director Patrick Lussier for HORROR HOUND magazine and uncovered a few updates on his latest feature MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D. (The remake of the 1981 cult "slasher" pic.)

Current status according to the director? "Ya, we're about to have a bit of a screening for our delicious friends at the MPAA (laughs)... We're just hoping we don't follow in the footsteps of the original film. The original film went back 9 or 10 times and is notorious for having (over 10) minutes or something taken out of it. But with any R rated film it's a thing right? You're wanting to make sure that you're leaning over the edge but not falling into it."

He also hints at when we might get our first look at the movie via a trailer: "I suspect there will be one on SAW V. The studio will have to answer that for you. I've been hunkered down in my editorial bunker. (laughs)"

Click HERE to read the original article and find out if Lussier would be game for a sequel to MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D!

"Based on the 1981 cult horror, My Bloody Valentine 3D, directed by Patrick Lussier, tells a tale of Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), a man who caused an accident in a coal mine in the town of Harmony, killing five men and putting one into a coma.

Vampire Flick THIRST From The Director Of OLDBOY!

Variety reports that Universal Pictures and Focus Features have boarded "OLDBOY" director Park Chan-wook's in-production vampire movie "THIRST." The article continues, "It's the first time a Korean film has received U.S. studio coin and a Stateside distribution commitment before its local release. Universal and Focus will invest in and co-produce the pic, which has so far been steered by Korean major CJ Entertainment. Focus will bow the film in North America with CJ handling the remaining international sales rights. CJ also will distribute the film in South Korea. The deal was announced Thursday by UPI Studio prexy Christian Grass, Focus CEO James Schamus and CJ CEO Kim Joo-sung.

"THIRST" stars Song Kang-ho ("Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance," "The Host," "The Good the Bad and the Weird") and Shin Ha-kyun ("Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance"). Involving unusually risqué elements, pic also stars Kim Ok-bi ("Dasepo Naughty Girls,") as leading lady. Pic is about a priest who participates in a medical experiment to find a cure for a deadly disease with traumatic repercussions. It is skedded to be completed in time for a festival bow in mid-2009.

" 'THIRST' is especially exciting for us, as it's the first time a major studio has co-produced with a South Korean entertainment company in this way," said Grass. "Park Chan-wook is one of the most talented and influential Korean directors working today. We're really pleased to be partnering with CJ on this production."

"First, this is a vote of confidence in CJ and director Park, but also having a film of this scale get the backing of a major studio in North America opens up an opportunity for all Korean films," said Katharine Kim, exec VP and head of international at CJ. "Second, it is important to us to have Universal and Focus' financial commitment while the film is in production."

Park is best known for "OLD BOY," which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes in 2003 and 2005 hit "LADY VENGEANCE," both of which sold internationally after their domestic release."
