"Here’s a quick run down of all the EVIL DEAD stuff, because I know it keeps coming back, like a bad check", Bruce tells us. "When Sam is ready to do it, we’ll all just check our schedules. He got involved in this massive (SPIDER-MAN) franchise and it seems like its still continuing. So who knows? Who knows when the hell anyone will be able to get into another EVIL DEAD. But I think we both desire to do it. It’s just really scheduling more then anything."
Well, what about the much-talked about remake version? "As far as a remake goes, there’s nothing for me in the remake, so I wouldn’t really be involved other then being a producer, because… what am I? The old guy at the bait shop? “Hey kids! You be careful! That place is haunted!” “Oh shut up, old man!” Ya know? And they drive off into the woods."
It was recently announced that the producers of EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL were looking into making a feature-version of their classic stage show (and in 3D!) pending they can resolve rights issues. Campbell is fairly confident that we'll see EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL on the big screen. "We didn’t discourage it. They were pursuing to do that… I think it’s an issue of... Look, if there was already a play of it, as long as you just kind of document it and you could show that in movie theaters as a midnight thing, then it’s its own beast. Because it’s already so different. I don’t think there will be any issues, but we’ll see what happens."
And speaking of EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL, Bruce couldn't help but give props to Ryan Ward, the actor that portrays Ash in the original Toronto show (and in last years New York performances). "He’s terrific, and that kid has worked harder then I ever did on the original movies," laughs Campbell. "Because he’s got to go through the whole experience every freakin’ night. And sometimes even matinees! He’s got the hardest gig in show business! He’s done a really, really good job and he’s a sweet kid, and I hope he goes far. Now the gag is in his life. People will go up to him and be like, “Oh, you played Ash!”"

I always joked with writer Steve Niles that one day, I'd like to direct an adaptation of his comic book FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND. It's my all-time favorite story from the creator of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. But alas, a director that has been tapped for the film version and I reluctantly approve.
The Hollywood Reporter says that David Gordon Green (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, SNOW ANGELS) will direct FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND for Overture Films. The script was adapted from Niles graphic novel by screenwriters Peter Sattler and Geoff Davey. Green and Dark Horse Entertainment president Mike Richardson are producing. Niles, who also wrote "30 Days of Night," is executive producing. Illustrated by Greg Ruth, Niles' six-part 2004 series about the horrible secret of a rural Middle American town involves Trevor Owen's attempts to protect his "monster" of a 6-year-old younger brother and Gristlewood Valley's other "freaks" from their parents' worst instincts.
Overture is on a role with interesting horror projects. Also on their slate are remakes of George A. Romero's THE CRAZIES (being helmed by Breck Eisner) and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (directed by CLOVERFIELD director Matt Reeves). If you haven't read FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND, search out the graphic novel!
No word on Green's proposed SUSPERIA remake, but we'll keep you posted!

In the early 1980's, sci-fi miniseries "V", the alien-human Holocaust allegory scored record ratings, spawned a sequel, "V: The Final Battle", and the short lived but well made "V: The Series". Now ABC is set to revive the cult classic for a new franchise, according to Variety. The new show, produced by "The 4400" creator Scott Peters will not try to replicate the original except that "the new "V" will still focus on what happens when the masses have blind faith in their leaders."
The 80's series focused on seemingly benevolent aliens coming to Earth with the the promise of sharing advanced technology in exchange for some help with their ailing planet. Unfortunately for the human race while they looked human underneath they were secretly lizard-like creatures who'd come to steal our water and enslave us.
Original series creator Kenneth Johnson had been trying to get a sequel to the original series off the ground for several years without success. Earlier this year Johnson released his sequel in the form of the novel "V: The Second Generation".
The original "V" series also featured many horror genre veterans such as Marc Singer, Robert Englund, Michael Ironside, Leonard Cimino, Jane Badler, and Faye Grant in early roles as both human and alien.
While the prospect of a series without Johnson disappoints us, we cannot lie...

In honor of the 5 FRIGHTFEST short-films that Joe Lynch and Adam Green put together and posted on-line this past month, we've decided to share with you 2 rarely seen videos. About a year ago, a few days prior to the release of WRONG TURN 2: DEAD END, Fox had scheduled for 2 theatrical screenings of WRONG TURN 2 on the big screen. One was set for New York, while the other one was set for LA. Unfortunately, both screenings were set for the exact same evening, and director Joe Lynch couldn't make it back to his native New York to see the flick with his family. (Long Island, represent!)
The ICONS crew had prepared in advance to make something a little special from the screening for Joe. Adam Barnick brought his camera and planned to film audience reactions and thoughts following the screening with Joe's family, friends and fans. Much to our surprise, Joe himself has surprised us with a special video introduction that started the entire evening off, mentioning and thanked the ICONS crew. So below are those 2 videos. The first being Joe's video introduction to the NY premiere of WRONG TURN 2 (note: it played at the Two Boots which is part pizza-place), and the second being ICONS video to Joe from the premiere. ENJOY!

Ok, I'm not sure what the deal is with BLINDNESS, other then the fact it was helmed by the director of CITY OF GOD... but the basic premise and TV spots I've seen thus far scare the crap out of me. A few days back, rumor had it that George A. Romero had started shooting a new zombie movie that was not a sequel to this year's DIARY OF THE DEAD. Now, Variety confirms this news with a plot synopsis to the as-yet-to-be-titled new Romero movie that's tentatively going by the name ISLAND OF THE DEAD. (Hey, I dig that.)
According to Variety's article, the "Plot involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure. The cast includes Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh (TWIN PEAKS), Kathleen Munroe, Devon Bostick (SAW IV), Richard Fitzpatrick, Stefano Colacitti and Athena Karkanis (SAW IV)."
Meanwhile, Aint It Cool has a few "spy" photos from the production which you can check out HERE!
From acclaimed novelists Ted Dekker and Frank Perreti, Roadside Attractions presents: HOUSE, (no, it's not a remake of the 1986 horror film HOUSE with William Katt, George Wendt & Richard Moll!) This HOUSE opens Friday, November 7, 2008.
On a deserted back road in Alabama , Jack and Stephanie find themselves driving fast and running late. Their world suddenly changes when a strange accident leaves them stranded with no car, no cell phone coverage, and no help in sight. They have no choice except to continue on foot. As darkness approaches, they round a bend and see a small sign at the top of a long gravel driveway: The Wayside Inn.
The exhausted couple stands in front of an inviting house, complete with gated stone wall, ancient oak trees, and a note welcoming weary travelers. Inside they find another couple with an equally troubling story about a similar accident. It seems that backwoods pranksters have made their day miserable. Still, they are safe . . .
Or so they think.
Roadside Attractions presents HOUSE. You can check out the trailer below!

This news is a couple of days old but worth mentioning regardless - At the screening of Gil Kenan's new film CITY OF EMBER at FANTASTIC FEST, Bill Murray was the surprise guest and fielded some questions from the audience after the movie. The subject of the recently announced GHOSTBUSTERS 3 came up and here's what Bill had to say:
"Well, I think the wounds from GHOSTBUSTERS 2 have healed. And supposedly they've got 2 guys from THE OFFICE to write a script? That could work, I think that's a good idea to get a fresh look at it. I've always liked the characters, the characters were fun. And we did have a lot of fun making the movie, the first one was really a lot of fun to make. I think the first 45 minutes of GHOSTBUSTERS is about as funny as a movie gets. We didn't have a lot of special effect in it, it was just a couple. It was just the funny characters in that world, and I liked that movie because of it. I think the first movie had something like 60 plate shots or something like that? The second one had hundreds. The special (FX) guys got their hands on the script early (for GHOSTBUSTERS 2) and it was just gone. It went away. The script went away. It was hard to wrangle because it was tied all around the FX without story coming first or the characters moving through it, so - they're hard movies to write. And Dan really caught it with that first one. He really caught it. And it's fun. Characters are fun to do. We did the video game this summer and it was fun to do it again. I found myself walking down 5th Avenue singing the song! People (walking by) were like 'God, that guy's really full of himself'"
The original GHOSTBUSTERS was directed by Ivan Reitman from a script by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts. The new GHOSTBUSTERS is currently being scripted by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.
