Not Quite Fear And Loathing At The San Diego Comic Con (Part 1)

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers...

Oh who am I kidding?  We had two cups of coffee, a pen, two pads of paper, a camera, and our stuff in the trunk.  It was Friday morning, 6 am to be exact, and I pulled up to my friend Ryan’s house.  I was greeted by his camera flash.

First Look At SOUTH TEXAS BLUES Graphic Novel! The Making Of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE!

Filmmaker Christopher P. Garetano's fantasy- biopic SOUTH TEXAS BLUES (based on true tales of the making of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) will first be unleashed as a graphic novel.

Have you ever wondered what happened behind the scenes of one of most terrifying horror films ever made? How was it actually created? What madness led to the terror that was burned on film?

The shocking stories are all true!

Intense endless nights of shooting! Injuries! Unbearable temperatures! Real human remains! Madness! Obsession! Accidental formaldehyde injections! Marijuana brownies! Texas!

SOUTH TEXAS BLUES is based on the true story of the making of one of the most infamous horror films of all time. During the summer of 1973, a small inexperienced crew of independent filmmakers went to war, unaware of the legend they were creating . South Texas Blues is the story of “Tobe” and the crew of Saturn In Retrograde. Told through the twisted mind of “Tobe” South Texas Blues is a trip down the dark road of one man’s obsession.

Christopher P. Garetano (Horror Business, Cottonmouth) spent two years researching and writing South Texas Blues and is currently developing the motion picture. Over the past year he has worked with Artist Trevor Cook on the Graphic novel adaptation of his original screenplay.

The South Texas Blues graphic novel is already in full production and will be released in October of 2009. It's written by Garetano and beautifully illustrated by artist Trevor Cook. The graphic novel is a faithful adaptation of Garetano's screenplay and vision for the coming film. In addition legendary comic book artist Steve Bissette (Swamp Thing, Cottonmouth) is drawing the cover art.

COTTONMOUTH TV TRAILER:

Vengeful ghouls from beyond the grave… Special effects make-up… True ghost stories… A horror movie premiere…

One place where you can find all of these things and more is COTTONMOUTH.TV.

Created by Christopher P. Garetano (Horror Business), COTTONMOUTH.TV is a celebration of horror movies, comic books and Halloween. The forthcoming website was initially conceived as a unique venue to premiere the short film of the same name. Directed by Garetano, Cottonmouth is a meticulously crafted mini-movie that aims to scare the hell out of its audience.

In 1986 artist Steve Bissette (Swamp Thing, Taboo) crafted a three-page horror story that was published in the pages of an underground horror comic titled Gore Shriek. Cottonmouth is his macabre story of four angry ghosts who take their revenge on the “company man” who was responsible for their deaths. Now filmmaker Christopher P. Garetano has brought Cottonmouth to life for the Internet generation.

On October 1, 2008, COTTONMOUTH.TV will go live, first with a variety of short vignettes, and then with Cottonmouth the movie premiering on October 31st. The vignettes will include behind-the-scenes footage of Cottonmouth, “How to Make a Monster” with Wicked Effects makeup artist Jay Alvino, the eerie music of Chris Alexander, a history of horror comics with Steve Bissette and Trevor Cook, true ghost stories, and a special Halloween episode of the Internet show America’s Bad Kids.

Cottonmouth merchandise will also be available from the site but the movie and other viewing content is all free. Visitors are encouraged (but not obligated) to donate to one of two charities that include a prominent cancer research foundation and an organization for a rare disease called Penthigus.

Further information regarding the charities will be available on Cottonmouth.TV in the “treats” section.

For more information log onto COTTONMOUTH.TV on or after October 1, 2008.

Update On Joe Hill's HEART SHAPED BOX Movie; LOCKE & KEY!

FANGORIA recently chatted with author Joe Hill and he revealed that director Neil Jordon (INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE) is no longer attached to Warners movie version of his novel HEART SHAPED BOX. "My understanding is that Jordan wrote a really great script, but then he was asked to do revisions and then there was the writers’ strike. I know they’ve done another rewrite [since], and I couldn’t tell you whether it was Jordan who did it or someone else. But that one continues to be developed."

Hill also revealed that his recent comic book LOCKE & KEY (which is really, really good if you get a chance to read it) has been expanded from it's 6 issue limited series to a 24 issue run beginning in early 2009. Plus, a television series version is also being devloped! He tells FANGO, "The Weinstein Company got interested in LOCKE & KEY and bought it, and it was widely reported that they had bought it to adapt for a film. But they actually purchased it for TV. The plan right now is to do an HBO kind of thing—a mature, somewhat enclosed story that would be 12 episodes, but open-ended enough that they could go back and do another season. Frank Darabont [THE MIST] is going to write the pilot and hopefully direct it."

(From the FANGO article) LOCKE & KEY follows a woman and her three children who move into an old family house in Lovecraft, Massachusetts after their husband and father is murdered. There, one of the children discovers a set of keys that opens doors onto, as Hill puts it, “the impossible.”

Check out the entire interview HERE on FANGO's website!

This summer we announced that "V: The Second Generation", a sequel to the mega-hit 1980's NBC miniseries "V" and "V: The Final Battle" in the form of a novel would be hitting bookstores in October. The novel was written by original "V" writer/director Kenneth C. Johnson.

It wasn't meant to be. Licensing issues arose between Warner Brothers and Tor Publishing regarding the rights. Lawyers...I wouldn't be surprised to find they're really lizard people. Anyway, after much wrangling (and the release of a mysterious Red Dust in the Warner Brothers legal department) the final release for the book is.....
