R.I.P. DON EDMONDS

We're terribly saddened to learn of the passing of filmmaker Don Edmonds. The actor-turned-director (and producer) was most well known to exploitation film fans for his ILSA movies, ILSA, SHE WOLF OF THE SS and ILSA, HAREM KEEPER OF THE OIL SHEIKS, as well as such features as WILD HONEY, TENDER LOVING CARE, BARE KNUCKLES, TERROR ON TOUR amongst other. He also directed the pilot to SILK STALKINGS and of course appeared alongside Dyanne Thorn (Ilsa herself), Sid Haig and Jack Hill in the 4th "exploitation breakfast" episode of AMERICA'S BAD KIDS. He will be missed...

ALIEN Prequel Confirmed!

A few days back, we were reporting that B-D got a tip that Fox was planning a "remake/reboot" of their ALIEN franchise. Now, Collider.com got confirmation from Tony Scott, one of the producers on board. The upcoming ALIEN movie will be a prequel to Ridley Scott's original. (And thankfully NOT a remake) Carl Erik Rinsch is directing with Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and Tony Scott producing. Rumor has it it will feature only one ALIEN ala the original film. SlashFilm.com has compiled an awesome article with several of Rinsch's commercials. Check them out HERE! More when we hear it!

REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA Back In Theaters This Summer!

"REPO! The Genetic Opera is the modern day "little engine that could."  Critics panned it, many tried to bury it, the Razzies awarded it and THOUSANDS are clamoring for it.  Icons of Fright's Spooky Dan couldn't help but notice the massive stir REPO! is causing globally and traveled nationwide to capture it on film in a 4 minute mini-documentary: www.iconsoffright.com/Video.html.

Ogre, REPO!'s Pavi Largo, explains the movement as "a passion project embraced by the very audience it was meant for.  Never better a turning of the screw back into a stuffed shirt mentality of forced propagandized drool.  This is handmade, fan made, retribution. Pavi says 'it's-a perfect!'"

Throughout history, it took years for something "cult" to incubate into full fledged "phenomenon." In today's digital age, cyber-speed has quickened the process.  Forums buzz and message boards overflow with requests for more REPO!.  Independent theater chains across the country are answering fans' pleas for more REPO!.  The film once buried by critics is now being booked on the silver screen due to overwhelming fan demand.  Everywhere from Salem, MA to San Jose, CA fans are launching social sites, connecting clusters of REPO! fans, and REPO! armies, armed with shadowcasts, are popping up everywhere.  See attached graphic for REPO!'s summer 2009 screenings."

More details & dates at: www.repo-opera.com

REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA! (directed by Darren Lynn Bousman) stars Alexa Vega, Paul Sorvino, Bill Moseley, Paris Hilton, Kevin Graham Ogilvie, Anthony Stewart Head, Terrance Zdunich and Sarah Brightman.

First Look At Freddy Krueger (Pre-Burn) In A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET!

JoBlo.com/Arrow In The Head landed quite a cool scoop! A reader sent them some behind the scenes pics from the set of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and got the first glimpse of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger! (See pic below) Now, a few things to note. This picture is being looked at completely out of context from the film. Is this pre-burned Freddy Krueger? Is it a dream sequence? Notice he doesn't have the glove in these pictures, so could it be a flashback? Also, he's wearing a brown/beige shirt rather then the infamous red & green sweater. Will the sweater come into play later? Until we get something official, all we can do is speculate and wait! Click HERE or the picture below to see more over at JoBlo.com!

The new A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake is being directed by Samuel Beyer from a script by Wesley Strick, later revised by Eric Heissere. It stars Thomas Dekker (TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNER CHRONICLES), Kyle Gallner (THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT), Kellan Lutz, Clancy Brown, Connie Britton, Katie Cassidy and Rooney Mara as the new Nancy. Jackie Earle Haley is the new Freddy Krueger. Platinum Dunes Brad Fuller, Andrew Form & Michael Bay are producing. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET hits theaters on April 16th, 2010!

RUMOR: ALIEN Remake In The Works?!

With the recent announcement that Fox was rebooting their PREDATOR franchise with Robert Rodriguez producing, it should come as no surprise that the studio is now also planning a remake/reboot of Ridley Scott's classic ALIEN.

Bloody-Disgusting got a tip that Fox is planning a remake of ALIEN, where "the plan is to stick with the original concept of only one alien on the ship." Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and Tony Scott are producing with Carl Rinsch tentatively set to direct. Rinsch works for Ridley Scott Assosiates and has an extensive background in directing FX laddened commercials. (Examples of his work can be found HERE!)

An update on B-D's original post now says this could end up being an "origin" story as opposed to a straight out remake, but until we hear otherwise, let's consider this all a RUMOR for now. More when we hear it.

SORORITY ROW Rated... R?!

A lot of people have been speculating that SORORITY ROW (a remake of HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW) would be getting a PG-13 upon it's release. Well, back when the first report came out last year, director Stewart Hendler was pretty open about the intended rating. Here's a quote from last year's article from Hendler: "The good news is that three days ago, Summit changed their minds and we are full-steam ahead on the R-rated version. I can’t tell you what a relief this is from a creative sense. As I’ve mentioned before, we’re not out to make torture porn and this still isn’t going to be an explicit exploitation picture—but it's nice to be able to write a horror movie the way it should be."

Now, "Joey", a source close to the production wrote to several outlets that, "[Name witheld is] sick of everyone thinking it's PG-13.... so here it is: "R" for strong bloody violence, language, some sexuality/nudity and some partying."

There you have it! SORORITY ROW is set to open in theaters on October 2nd, 2009.

Check out the trailer!

An update/remake of Mark Rosman's 1983 THE HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW, the new version was directed by Stewart Hendler from a script by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger. It stars (cutie) Briana Evigan (S. DARKO, FEAR ITSELF: NEW YEAR'S DAY), Rumer Willis, Audrina Patridge (INTO THE BLUE 2) and Carrie Fisher. SORORITY ROW opens in theaters on October 2nd, 2009. Visit the official website over at thetapi-ordie.com.

John Lithgow Joins The Cast Of DEXTER Season 4!

Now this is a stroke of brilliant casting, especially after you read the character description and consider the possibilities for the 4th season of DEXTER! The Hollywood Reporter Live Feed blog just posted the news that actor John Lithgow has joined the cast for the upcoming season of DEXTER. Check this out...

Lithgow will play Walter Simmons, an unassuming, mild-mannered suburbanite who has been living a dual life as one of America’s most prolific and deadliest serial killers.  Dubbed the “Trinity Killer” because of his proclivity to kill in three’s, he relocates to Miami after being tracked by F.B.I. Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine).  Brought on to assist in the investigation of Miami’s latest serial killer, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) becomes fascinated with “Trinity’s” unique killing methods and his ability to evade capture for almost three decades.

Holy crap... This sounds like a great, great fit for Lithgow's acting talents, and it'll be exciting to see him go up against Michael C. Hall. Season 3 hits store shelves on August 18th, while Season 4 will begins airing September 27th on Showtime. DEXTER stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Julie Benz, James Remar, David Zayas, Lauren Vélez and C.S. Lee.

New Video With The Cast Of SAW VI!

Movie Entertainment sat down with the cast of SAW VI (due out this October 23rd) shortly after they wrapped principle photography on the latest sequel. Check out what they had to say below!

SAW VI synopsis: "Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw's legacy.  However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood."

Long time SAW editor Kevin Greutert directs the latest sequel SAW VI from a script by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (SAW IV, SAW V, FEAST 1-3). Shauna MacDonald, Devon Bostick, Marty Moreau, Karen Cliche, Shawn Mathieson, Melanie Scrofano, James Gilbert, Shawn Ahmed, Janelle Hutchison, Gerry Mendicino, Caroline Cave and Ginger Busch all star with Tobin Bell returning as Jigsaw, Shawnee Smith as Amanda (both for flashback sequences), as well as Costas Mandylor. More on SAW 6 when we hear it!

Dan Aykroyd Talks GHOSTBUSTERS 3!

In the last several months, with writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (THE OFFICE) hard at work on the script for a new GHOSTBUSTERS feature, it looks like we're finally getting closer and closer to GHOSTBUSTERS 3! (For real!) Last month, Harold Ramis chimed in with some thoughts on the proposed (and eagerly awaited) sequel. (Read that HERE!) Now, Dan Aykroyd has been talking about what we can expect.

Aykroyd told The LA Times that "Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists - Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson." He mentioned that Ivan Rietman, helmer of the first 2 GHOSTBUSTERS movies is "too busy" with his producing duties, but he'd like to see Harold Ramis step into the directing chair. (Ramis directed GROUNDHOG DAY with Murray, and most recently YEAR ONE, which was scripted by Eisenberg & Stupinsky.)

Aykroyd told The Guardian a bit about what we can expect plot-wise. "There'll be a whole new generation that has to be trained and a leader that you'll all love when you meet her. There'll be lots of cadets, boys and girls who'll be learning how to use the neuron splitter and the inter-planet interceptor - new tools to enable them to slip from dimension to dimension."

Who could he mean by her? In The LA Times piece, he mentioned Alyssa Milano (who voiced the GHOSTBUSTERS video game) and Eliza Dushku. He adds, "I think they're amazing, and I'm excited about the whole idea of getting this done."

GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is tentatively expected to shoot in the winter. More when we hear it!

You can read Bill Murray's comments on GHOSTBUSTERS 3 from our previous news post HERE!

The original GHOSTBUSTERS was directed by Ivan Reitman from a script by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Remake? Minus Joss Whedon?

Yep. Because I'm sure this is exactly what die-hard Buffy fans want... a remake of the original movie?! The Hollywood Reporter says a new incarnation of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER may be hitting the big screen soon enough.

The article says, "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.

While Whedon is the person most associated with "Buffy," Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from then-unknown Whedon. She developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox.

Kuzui later teamed with Gail Berman, then president of Sandollar Television, bringing back Whedon to make the TV series, which was produced by Fox TV and launched on the WB in 1997. Kuzui and Sandollar received executive producer credits on "Buffy" and its spinoff, "Angel."

The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon.

One of the underlying ideas of "Buffy" allows Vertigo and Kuzui to do just that: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. The goal would be to make a darker, event-sized movie that would, of course, have franchise potential.

The parties are meeting with writers and hearing takes, and later will look for a home for the project. The producers do not rule out Whedon's involvement but have not yet reached out to him.Speaking from Tokyo, Fran Kuzui said the company is constantly approached not only about sequels but theater, video games and foreign remakes for "Buffy." When Vertigo's Lee contacted them, they were intrigued.

"It was Roy's interest in taking Buffy into a new place that grabbed us," she said, noting that original exec producer Sandy Gallin also was consulted. "It was based on our respect for what he does, and his particular sensitivity to Asian filmmakers, that we wanted to work with him."

Sneak Peek Trailer At ABC's Brand New 'V' Series!

I'm sure ICONS own Mike C will be excited about this! ABC is airing a pilot episode for a new 'V' series this fall. That's right, an update of the 80's television sci-fi cult classic! No word on when it'll air but you can keep your eyes on the official ABC webpage for the show at: abc.go.com/V

The pilot was written by Scott Peters (THE 4400) and directed by Yves Simoneau and stars Elizabeth Mitchell (LOST) as Erica Evans, Morris Chestnut as Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch (THE 4400) as Father Jack Landry, Lourdes Benedicto as Valerie Stevens, Logan Huffman as Tyler Evans, Laura Vandervoort (SMALLVILLE) as Lisa, with Morena Baccarin (FIREFLY) as Anna and Scott Wolf as Chad Decker. Check out the trailer and synopsis below:

Today, the world woke up to find spaceships over every major city. The Visitors claim to have come in peace, bringing gifts of medical miracles and technological breakthroughs. They promise to do no harm. They're lying.

Most people believe the aliens have arrived just when we needed them most. We're eager to embrace their generous offers of help, but while tracking a terrorist cell, Homeland Security agent Erica Evans stumbles upon something far more sinister. Erica discovers that the aliens have plans to infiltrate our governments and businesses, planting seeds for their plot to control mankind. Convincing anyone of the truth will be impossible because the Visitors have two powerful weapons. First, they've given the people faith with their reassuring presence and gifts. Second, they've rallied our youth. Thousands of teens, including Erica's son, have been recruited as 'Peace Ambassadors' but they're actually serving as unwitting spies. When Erica gets thrust into the resistance movement, she'll have to balance her covert activities with her job and her role as a mother, fighting to protect her son Tyler - even as he joins forces with the enemy.

From executive producer Scott Peters, Emmy-nominated creator of The 4400, comes a bold re-imagining of the sci-fi classic. Let the invasion begin.

The series is produced by HDFilms in association with Warner Bros. Television. Scott Peters is executive producer/writer and Steve Pearlman and Jace Hall are executive producers.

DVD Cover Artwork For WEREWOLF: THE COMPLETE SERIES!

A few days ago, it was announced that Shout! Factory would be putting out WEREWOLF: THE SERIES on DVD on September 1st! Now, we've got a look at the kick-ass cover DVD artwork below! (Reminds me of the old Blackthorne Publishing comic books!) While we can't confirm special features just yet, we have heard from sources that brand new interviews & commentaries are being assembled for the set, so it looks like this one will be worth the wait!

The show followed Eric Cord (John J. York), a man recently infected with the curse of the werewolf on the run from bounty hunter Alamo Joe Rogan (Lance LeGault) and in search of Skorzeny (Chuck Conners in one of his final TV roles), the head werewolf Eric is convinced turned him. It follows the basic premise of THE INCREDIBLE HULK series, but with a werewolf! A Rick Baker werewolf no less! (In the same way that Bruce Banner's eyes would turn green before he changed, in WEREWOLF the pentagram on Eric's hand would start bleeding before every transformation!)

Alex Winter Directing THE GATE 3D!

Several months back, we had heard reports that Alex Winter was attached to direct a 3D remake of cult favorite THE GATE. Shock Till You Drop is now confirming this from the man himself who recently attended a screening of FREAKED at the New Beverly Theater this past weekend. He told the audience there that he's currently in pre-production on the GATE update!

While most genre fans may recognize Winter in front of the camera in such films as THE LOST BOYS and BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, Winter made the segue way into directing starting with his debut FREAKED and following it up with the highly underrated FEVER (starring Henry Thomas). Most recently, he's been directing episodes of the Cartoon Network's Ben 10.

The original THE GATE was directed by Tibor Takacs from a script by Michael Nankin and starred Stephen Dorff, Louis Tripp, Christa Denton and Carl Kraines.

Check out our vintage FRIGHT exclusive interview with the writer/director of the original THE GATE (and it's sequel) TIBOR TAKAS! (Click the frame to read it!)

FINAL DESTINATION 4 Now... "THE FINAL DESTINATION"?!

The 4th film in the FINAL DESTINATION series has been going under the moniker of FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP 3D for the last several months now. (As opposed to "FINAL DESTINATION 4") According to Box Office Mojo, the sequel has undergone yet another name change. It's now simply "THE FINAL DESTINATION". (Err... same way that THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS went to just FAST & FURIOUS recently) Alrighty then!

THE FINAL DESTINATION hits theaters on August 28st, 2009 and stars Nick Zano, Krista Allen (FEAST), Andy Fiscella, Shantel Van Santen, Bobby Campo, Haley Webb, Justin Welborn (THE SIGNAL), Mykelti Williamson & Richard T. Jones. David Ellis, the director of FINAL DESTINATION 2 returns behind the camera for FINAL DESTINATION 4. Eric Bress wrote the script. You can check out a behind-the-scenes video at our previous news post HERE!

THE RETURN OF LESLIE VERNON! Writer Talks BEHIND THE MASK 2!

BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON was one of the bigger breaths of fresh air the horror genre took in recent years; going on to be a cult favorite. BHM recently put the film at #70 in its top 100 horror films of all time, while Horror-Movies.ca just put the film in its “Top 10 most influential horror films of the last 10 years” list.

Blending horror and comedy, deconstructing slasher films as well as becoming one of the finest examples of the subgenre; mixing realism with melodrama... there aren’t many films that can cover these many bases and simply work. Vernon was a universal success at festivals and with critics, although criminally underseen during its limited theatrical release. Thanks to DVD, the next great slasher heavyweight has seen his hoped-for following grow in number month after month.

I checked in with Vernon writer David J. Stieve this week (who I’d interviewed for IOF in July of ’07 about Vernon and other upcoming projects) just to inquire what he’d been working on lately. Asking about a heist film DAYS LIKE THIS and a Christmas tale THE NIGHT BEFORE he’d been developing; he actually revealed that thanks to consistently healthy DVD sales there's been some “concrete interest in making a sequel to BEHIND THE MASK soon”. And though he couldn’t say who with, he did add “it's legitimate enough to get (director) Scott (Glosserman) and I working on the story and plotting it out.”

Stieve had touched on where he might have taken the narrative if he ever wrote a followup back in his Icons interview and I wondered if they had planned to keep that angle, with Leslie figuring out how to handle his initial notoriety and ‘sudden success’ while deconstructing sequel-based conventions about a killer returning after his initial headline-making massacre.

DJS: “There are components of what we aim to do that I expect will be similar, but back then I only had vague notions. Now Scotty and I are getting into specifics, and as you can imagine things have changed. Just as Scotty and I, even Nathan (Baesel) perhaps, have changed in our professional lives. One thing we can certainly touch on is the idea that the parallels to real life continue.”

One could have envisioned Leslie Vernon as any other aspiring artist debuting in a competitive field, which matched the debut filmmaking efforts of Glosserman and Stieve as well as its talented lead; addressing where Leslie would find himself post-murder spree looks to comment on where his creators have found themselves now. “Leslie's journey as a "craftsman" has had to be adjusted to the reality of what happened to his fledgling mythology after the events of the Harvest Moon Killings”, states David. “So, too, have our expectations as filmmakers in the wake of how things unfolded after the release of the film in real life.”

One aspect cerebral fans embraced in the first film’s storytelling was the blending of a documentary-world aesthetic and the film-world, depending on the point of view. While he didn’t mention if all the same documentary characters/crew would be involved or how this is depicted this time out, “I can tell you that there IS a way we're blending the documentary and cinematic lenses again. And there is also a manner in which Taylor (Angela Goethals) and Leslie are forced to cooperate with one another, although not necessarily on the best of terms. There's definitely a perverse love story that must be honored, but then again they did try pretty hard to kill each other. Not exactly a ‘kiss and make up’ situation. There's a sort of bigger, badder influence that's threatening everything Leslie's worked to accomplish, and Taylor may have her own agenda for ‘helping’ him. Or does she?”

David was quick to stress that a followup to Vernon would certainly not be a direct retread or something that has to be written simply because of DVD profits: “Scott and I are painfully aware of the sequel trap, of treading the same ground again with nothing more than a bigger budget. That's not what's going to happen. Things didn't go the way Leslie wanted them to, particularly in the reaction of the residents of Glen Echo. I can't give any more details than that, but suffice to say, we find Leslie a little perplexed that he ‘did everything right, everything went exactly according to plan!’ and yet the aftermath of his rampage is a right-turn derailment of what he was expecting. So he, being Leslie, regroups and plays the hand he's been dealt. How Taylor and the boys get involved is part of the unfolding of his efforts in that regard.

I'm VERY pleased that we've found what we feel is a progressive, organic, and rational way to make that happen. Again, the real world parallel is that our efforts as filmmakers also needed to be re-calibrated and adjusted to the reality of the industry. I feel we've found that signature blending of the two worlds at the story level. Albeit this time, the industry is going to take a few harder shots.”

Stieve adds Leslie this time around is “channeling Freddy a bit more this time, finding some frightening ways to express his sense of humor.”

While the narrative’s been mapped out and Glosserman and Stieve hope to make major announcements soon, he did mention they’ve welcomed the continuous feedback from fans online and on their sites; The Behind the Mask website, MySpace and Facebook pages are still maintained/visited by the film’s creators; fans can continue to discuss Leslie’s continuing reign of terror, one scythe-slash at a time.

We wrapped up our chat with Stieve once again determined, as is Leslie, to raise the bar on the nightmarish goings-on in Glen Echo. “When you think about it, Michael Myers, Jason, Freddy Krueger all had to pay their dues. It's not an instantaneous process, even in their world! So each of us, individually and collectively, have come to realize how much more work we need to do. We all accept it and are up to the task. We've learned our lessons, taken our lumps, and we're going to craft a better story for Leslie as a result. Leslie is redoubling his efforts to become the greatest slasher killer ever. He knows it's gonna be a longer race than he thought, and he's gearing up to win it. Woe to the ones who doubt him or get in his way!”

- Adam Barnick

Del Toro's THE STRAIN Website Now Live!

If you recall, we posted a video message from filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro a few weeks back where he talked about his upcoming vampire trilogy THE STRAIN. Now, the official website for the novel has been launched over at: http://www.thestraintrilogy.com.

Below you'll find the book cover & synopsis to THE STRAIN, which hits store shelves on June 2nd. Del Toro will also be appearing at the upcoming New York Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors convention to promote the book! (Details at www.fangocon.com!)

They have always been here. Vampires. In secret and in darkness. Waiting. Now their time has come.

In one week, Manhattan will be gone. In one month, the country.

In two months—the world.

A Boeing 777 arrives at JFK and is on its way across the tarmac, when it suddenly stops dead. All window shades are pulled down. All lights are out. All communication channels have gone quiet. Crews on the ground are lost for answers, but an alert goes out to the CDC. Dr. Eph Goodweather, head of their Canary project, a rapid-response team that investigates biological threats, gets the call and boards the plane. What he finds makes his blood run cold.

In a pawnshop in Spanish Harlem, a former professor and survivor of the Holocaust named Abraham Setrakian knows something is happening. And he knows the time has come, that a war is brewing . . .

So begins a battle of mammoth proportions as the vampiric virus that has infected New York begins to spill out into the streets. Eph, who is joined by Setrakian and a motley crew of fighters, must now find a way to stop the contagion and save his city—a city that includes his wife and son—before it is too late.

Life is good until the mysterious Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) arrives at the bank to beg for an extension on her home loan. Should Christine follow her instincts and give the old woman a break? Or should she deny the extension to impress her boss, Mr. Jacks (David Paymer), and get a leg-up on a promotion? Christine fatefully chooses the latter, shaming Mrs. Ganush and dispossessing her of her home.

In retaliation, the old woman places the powerful curse of the Lamia on Christine, transforming her life into a living hell. Haunted by an evil spirit and misunderstood by a skeptical boyfriend, she seeks the aid of seer Rham Jas (Dileep Rao) to save her soul from eternal damnation. To help the shattered Christine return her life to normal, the psychic sets her on a frantic course to reverse the spell. As evil forces close in, Christine must face the unthinkable: How far will she go to break free of the curse?

"It Hurts So Good." New Poster For HBO's TRUE BLOOD: THE NEW SEASON!

EW has debuted yet another brand new poster for HBO's TRUE BLOOD: THE NEW SEASON which resumes with 12 new episodes starting June 14th! Check it out below!

Also from the article are the synopsis for the first 3 episodes. (Beware of minor spoilers!)

June 14: “Nothing But the Blood”

A shocking murder outside Merlotte’s has Bon Temps reeling. Meanwhile, Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) relationship with Bill (Stephen Moyer) is tested when she learns about Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), and of his involvement in her uncle’s death. Sam (Sam Trammell) recalls a shape-shifting encounter he had with Maryann (Michelle Forbes) as a 17-year-old.  Jason (Ryan Kwanten) gets a sudden windfall that allows him to pay for a leadership retreat with the Fellowship of the Sun. Two adversaries find themselves sharing a mysterious dungeon and, possibly, the same fate.

June 21: “Keep This Party Going”
Sookie is forced to cope with Bill’s obligations to Jessica, as well as the romantic inconveniences the teen vampire’s presence creates. At the Light of Day leadership conference, Jason makes a favorable impression on its ambitious leaders, Steve (Michael McMillian) and Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp), though not on his jealous roommate Luke (Wes Brown).  Maryann casts her spell on Merlotte’s patrons, and Sam proves helpless to stop the revelry.

June 28: “Scratches”
When Sookie is attacked by a mysterious creature, Bill must enlist Eric’s (Alexander Skarsgård) help to save her.  At the Light of Day retreat, Jason has second thoughts about the sect’s anti-vampire agenda, but Sarah and Steve counter his doubts with flattery and promises.  After snapping at Tara (Rutina Wesley) and new employee Daphne (Ashley Jones), Sam decides to cut and run. A bored Jessica heads over to Merlotte’s, where a smitten Hoyt (Jim Parrack) falls under her spell. At another Maryann-hosted party, Tara finds her attraction to Eggs (Mehcad Brooks) interrupted by a swirling, aphrodisiac fog.

FRIGHT NIGHT Remake Happening... Again?!

Oh boy... The Hollywood Reporter says that the proposed FRIGHT NIGHT remake is back on. The article reveals that "Dreamworks is in the process of picking up the FRIGHT NIGHT remake." (Considering how "hot" vampires are lately with TWILIGHT and TRUE BLOOD, it comes as no surprise.) The post continues, "Michael Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig of Gaeta/Rosenzweig Films are producing along with Michael De Luca. The original "Fright Night," written and directed by Tom Holland in 1985, was a horror comedy about a teenager who discovers that his neighbors are vampires. No writer has been hired, but the updated version will keep the comedy-horror tone while modernizing the effects."

While we wait for further word, you can read (and see!) the entire FRIGHT NIGHT reunion panel from last year's FEAR FEST convention by clicking the image below. Writer/director Tom Holland, Chris Sarandon (Jerry Dandrige), William Ragsdale (Charley Brewster), Jonathan Stark (Billy Cole), Amanda Bearse (Amy Peterson), Stephen Geoffreys ("Evil" Ed Thompson), Julie Carmen (Regine Dandrige) and writer/director Tommy Lee Wallace were all a part of the historic panel!

  • TOOLBOX MURDER Sequel Finally Coming?!

There have been rumors for years now about a proper follow-up to Tobe Hooper's remake of THE TOOLBOX MURDERS. Looks like it's finally a brewin'! An official website for TBK: THE TOOLBOX MURDERS (aka TOOLBOX MURDERS 2) is up and running and lists Lance Henriksen, Jeffrey Combs, Red West and Brian Krause as part of the cast. Dean Jones, the FX artist on the first film is writing and directing.

The site has the following synopsis for the sequel: "Picking up directly after the events Tobe Hooper's 2003 version of The Toolbox Murders; TBK intensifies the terrifying exploration into one of Hollywood's most twisted and morbid serial killers in the annals of American history.

Survivors Nell and Stephen continue their night of Hell as they're rushed to the nearby Hollywood Memorial hospital. Meanwhile, next-generation , tech-savvy CSI detectives Cole and Barnes coordinate with a hard-nosed, LAPD criminal profiler McGavin to exhume TBK's modern day tomb and uncover its origins, leading toward a shocking revelation involving old Hollywood's seedy underground and one doctor's secret past.

TBK will shock, sicken, and thrill you while pushing every envelope imaginable as it leads you into the darkest recesses of what is to become one of the classic horror films of the millennium."

Jones told Bloody-Disgusting a few weeks back "This script is very powerful, provocative, and original and rises far above the last Toolbox, I work in a world where I create death on a daily basis and so with that in mind this script will have highest body count ever in the history of horror films. However, the story will not be gore for the sake of having gore...it has depth and style."

The first TOOLBOX MURDERS was directed by Tobe Hooper from a script by Adam Gierasch & Jace Anderson and starred Angela Bettis, Brent Roam, Juliet Landau, Sara Downing & Sheri Moon Zombie. It was based on the original 1978 film of the same name. More on the sequel when we hear it!

SPOOKY DAN'S LATEST ICONS BLOG: "Can DREAD and THE HILLS RUN RED Fix Horror?"

Spooky Dan's back with his 2nd blog entry for ICONS OF FRIGHT! This week, he asks the question "Can DREAD and THE HILLS RUN RED Fix Horror?" He caught early screenings of both and both those films made quite an impression on Dan. Here's the intro to his latest blog entry:

"For the past few months it has seemed like horror films have taken a turn for the worse. Even the good films were just good, not great. The last couple horror films to really grab me were Let the Right One In and Martyrs. I had seen both of those films over a year ago, and while some others have come through the pipeline that I genuinely liked, nothing has really shaken me up much (not including Repo! of course). Quite frankly, there doesn’t seem to be much horror heading our way right now that I am super excited about either…Until this week!"

CONVENTION REPORT: CHILLER THEATER 2009, PARSIPPANY, NJ!

A Truckload of Zombies, and a Return to Form
(or, Burt Reynolds, We Hardly Knew Thee)

It’s nice when people listen. After the last three or four Chiller Theatres, horror fans started to voice their displeasure with the convention; having once boasted a guest list that was about 90% horror, the con had shifted to more of a “mainstream” celebrity show, with the likes of Leslie Nielsen and Angie Dickinson replacing horror stalwarts like George Romero and Betsy Palmer (a sure sign of a turn from horror: Nielsen and Dickinson both have horror movies on their resumes, yet their tables boasted not a single 8x10 from those films). It seems promoter Kevin Clement heard the cries of the fans, and answered them. With a few exceptions, this April’s Chiller Theatre was a return to its blood and guts form, recalling its former glories for horror fans.

X and I arrived Friday night to already brisk business, as many more fans packed the place than usually do on the traditionally quieter night. Fortunately, even with the sizeable crowd, I was able to accomplish a lot. Down in the pit, I quickly snatched up a pic of Tippi Hedren and a crow from Hitchcock’s The Birds, before I was on to Bruce Abbott’s table. Poor Bruce, most famous among genre fans for playing Dr. Dan Cain in Re-Animator, was in a bad spot, and had lots of free time on his hands the whole weekend. A shame, not only because this was his first con, and lackluster business might chase him away from doing more, but also because he was a genuinely nice guy. I then approached 80s pop singer Taylor Dayne, one of my long time loves. Unfortunately, she showed me absolutely no love with her dismissive attitude. This has happened to me in the past occasionally with celebs, and I wish those who have no love for their fans would just stay home.

    (With Bruce Abbott - RE-ANIMATOR)

I was then off to the Night of the Living Dead reunion. Having snubbed the 40th Anniversary run last year, Chiller was the first convention to jump on the 41st Anniversary (hehe), adding Charles Craig, a late addition to the 2008 tour, and crewman Gary Streiner, brother of Russ “Johnny” Streiner. Meeting George Romero is always a natural high for me, and he was extremely appreciative when I gave him a bottle of JD as a gift. The legend then offered to pay for my bottle several times, which I steadfastly refused. Craig was quite the personality, playing it up with a phony microphone as if he were still NOTLD’s newscaster. We then headed over to speak with Joe Pilato; watching him berate a 10 year old trying to get a free autograph from him was hysterically funny. I tried to interview Pilato for Icons as the weekend progressed, but he spends so much time walking between his table and the smoking areas, it was impossible to pin him down.

(with Charles Craig - NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD)

(with Uncle George Romero - NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD)

As X headed off to talk with Rob Granito, a comic book artist who’s become a friend of his over the years, I made my way to the Italian Invasion. We have Mike Baronas to thank for the appearance of many actors from Fulci’s films, as well as the Italian 80s horror in general. Baronas is an extremely nice guy and a gentleman, and I was happy to see his celebs making good money. His Zombie reunion reunited Ian McCulloch, Richard Johnson, Al Cliver and Ottaviano Dell’Acqua, old Worm Eye himself. As the weekend went on, I also met Zora Kerowa, Cinzia Monreale, and Silvia Collatina. Mike told me many of them had never done a convention before and they didn’t know what to expect, so they were thrilled with the showering of love from fans. Unfortunately, changing flight schedules prevented Giovanni Frezza from forming a House by the Cemetery mini-reunion, but Mike Baronas should be proud. He gave fans of the genre a unique opportunity to meet and greet people that many of us probably never expected to encounter. Thanks, Mike.

    (with Ian McCulloch - ZOMBIE)

(with Richard Johnson - ZOMBIE, THE HAUNTING)

    (with Al Cliver - ZOMBIE)

(with Zora Kerowa - ANTHROPOPHAGUS, CANNIBAL FEROX)

(with Cinzia Monreale - THE BEYOND)

(with Silvia Collatina - HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY)

The crowd Saturday was not what I expected. Early in the morning, it was a mob scene, as it usually is, but as the day went on, the crowd cooled considerably. Because so many fans showed up to an already sold out Saturday last show, this time there were no tickets sold at the door. Though I’m sure Chiller still made money hand over fist, this was the quietest Saturday I’ve ever seen at this show. Fortunately, this made it easier to get business done. Joined by my friends Nicole and Jonathan, the four of us made our way out to the tent, where Nicole was in awe of Poltergeist’s Oliver Robbins. As it was when X met him the previous night, Robbins engaged Nicole in a 15 minute conversation that I could tell was one of the highlights of her life. As X talked with a guy who voiced Charlie Brown, the remaining three of us went back into the hotel, where I met Tom Towles, of Night of the Living Dead 1990. He and I had this humorous exchange:

Me: Tom, don’t take this the wrong way, but you did a great job of playing a prick.

Tom: Actually, that’s the highest praise you could give me. When you play the villain in a movie, you want people to hate you. Thank you, Phil.

After Nicole fawned over Robert Rusler, I made my way back to the pit to meet Miguel Nunez. Another nice guy from a zombie film, he and I had an interesting conversation about the wig he wore in Return of the Living Dead. X then joined me, and we went on the hunt for Gary Streiner, the one person at the convention I needed to sign my NOTLD banner. Searching to no avail, X then did the logical thing: he asked his brother, Russ. Russ was nice enough to call him and locate him for us, while good naturedly ribbing me and X. Finding Gary was awesome, because he told me of the Living Dead Festival, which he’s hosting in Evans City, PA, the town where NOTLD was filmed. There are supposed to be all sorts of guests from Night that have never done a con before. If you love NOTLD as much as I do, this will be worth checking out. Unfortunately, the October Chiller runs the same weekend in Parsippany. Odd as it sounds to me, I may pass on Chiller for the first time in the 5 years I’ve been going.

(with Miguel Nunez Jr - RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, FRIDAY THE 13TH 5)

(with Gary Streiner - NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD)

As X perused the internet from his laptop that night, I wandered the hotel and found the Dead Elvi performing. Whoever controlled the sound board deserved a beating, as the bass level was too high and I could barely hear the vocals. I bounced back to the room, and then back to the concert one more time, where I accidentally caught the Elvi backing Mickey Dolenz! You really had to be there for this one, as it’s beyond my power to explain.

Business picked up again on Sunday, as X and I wrapped up a few odds and ends. This is the second con in a row at which I spent all three days, something Id never done before. But even as large as Chiller is, I don’t think there’s any con that needs a full weekend. That’s not a knock on Chiller, though. Because this April’s show provided a grand stage with a smorgasbord of guests from all ends of the horror genre for attendees to meet, and very little in the way of mainstream celebrities, which is a good thing. Burt Reynolds may never do a Chiller now, but then, Burt Reynolds never played a zombie.

New Theatrical Poster For Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN 2!

Rob Zombie revealed the new theatrical one-sheet poster for his HALLOWEEN sequel HALLOWEEN 2 (aka H2), which you can check out below. Of note is the title on this poster is now being referred to as HALLOWEEN 2 (rather then H2). Universal still owns the HALLOWEEN 2 and 3 titles here in the states. Wondering if they resolved that little technicality? More when we hear it!

It's that time of year again, and Michael Myers has returned home to sleepy Haddonfield, Illinois to take care of some unfinished family business. Unleashing a trail of terror that only horror master Rob Zombie can, Myers will stop at nothing to bring closure to the secrets of his twisted past. But the town's got an unlikely new hero, if they can only stay alive long enough to stop the unstoppable.

Make sure to check out the trailer to Rob Zombie's H2 right HERE at our previous post.

4 Minute Clip From TERMINATOR: SALVATION!

Below you'll find a 4 minute clip from the upcoming and eagerly anticipated summer flick TERMINATOR SALVATION! Since the May 21 release date is literally right around the corner, I'm personally avoiding watching the following so I can enjoy the new movie from a fresh perspective, but alas, don't let me stop YOU from checking it out. Be warned, it's supposedly spoiler-ish.

Check out the previous kick-ass trailer (cut to Nine Inch Nail's "The Day The World Went Away") at our previous post HERE!

The latest in the TERMINATOR franchise is directed by McG and stars Christian Bale as John Conner, Sam Worthington, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anton Yelchin, Common, Moon Bloodgood and Michael Ironside. It opens May 21st in theaters everywhere!

Keanu Reeves Plays JEKYLL In New JEKYLL & HYDE Redux!

Keanu Reeves will play both Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in JEKYLL, a new retelling based on the classic story "The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" according to The Hollywood Reporter. The article says that Universal is developing the update with Keanu Reeves attached to star and Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) penning the script. Nicolas Winding Refn is in negotiations to direct the project which is being produced by Erwin Stoff and Red Wagon Entertainment's Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher.

Robert Louis Stevenson's tale about a doctor who scientifically develops an evil self has become so pervasive in popular culture that the phrase "Jekyll and Hyde" conjures the idea of a split personality. The story has been translated to the screen and stage dozens of times, with several deviations including comedy, kids ("Jekyll and Heidi") and gender (1995's "Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde"). The story has seen modern iterations as recently as 2007, when the BBC aired a miniseries with the story set in the present as Hyde ran amok in London.

This version has nothing to do with the other Jekyll & Hyde film being developed by Guillermo Del Toro also for Universal. More when we hear it!

    New Poster For ANTICHRIST!

Oh boy. The more I see from Lar von Trier's new movie ANTICHRIST, the more intrigued I am by it. Below you'll find a steamy new theatrical poster courtesy of the IMPawards site. (Make sure to check out the bizarre trailer for ANTICHRIST at our previous news post HERE!)

In ANTICHRIST, a grieving couple retreat to 'Eden', their isolated cabin in the woods, where they hope to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage. But nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse… Directed by Lar von Trier from a script by von Trier and Anders Thomas Jensen, ANTICHRIST stars Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourgh (daughter of the French singer/songwriter). Again, see the trailer HERE!

Poster & New Trailer For Peter Jackson Produced DISTRICT 9!

Whoa! Seems like this flick came out of nowhere! I'd honestly never heard of it until the trailer debuted last week on Yahoo. (See it HERE!) Directed by Neill Blomkamp from a script co-written with Terri Tatchell (based on his short film ALIVE IN JORBURG) and produced by Peter Jackson, DISTRICT 9 depicts a fictional world where extraterrestrials have become refugees in South Africa.

In the original theatrical trailer, the "aliens" are blurred out and we're not really sure what it is they're saying. Now, this mysterious website has emerged with a new version of the trailer where the aliens are unblurred and their dialogue is subtitled. Check it out HERE!

And below it the new poster! DISTRICT 9 hits theaters August 14th, 2009! More as we hear it!

    Genre: Horror
Cast: Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna Raver, Jessica Lucas, David Paymer, Dileep Rao

    Directed by: Sam Raimi

Director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man trilogy, Evil Dead series) returns to the horror genre with Drag Me To Hell, an original tale of a young woman’s desperate quest to break an evil curse.
Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) is an ambitious L.A. loan officer with a charming boyfriend, professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long).

Fox's WEREWOLF Series Finally Comes To DVD September 1st!

Oh hells yes! One of my all time favorite TV shows was the old Fox series simply titled WEREWOLF which began airing on that network back in 1987. For years, only bootleg versions have been available via the convention circuit. Now, TV Shows on DVD announces that Shout! Factory (who also brought us SWAMP THING: THE SERIES on DVD) will be putting out the entire series on DVD on September 1st!

Multiple kudos to Dread Central for posting this. And while you're at it, check out this awesome WEREWOLF fan site:

FRIGHT EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - DIRECTOR JT PETTY!

Just added! A FRIGHT exclusive interview with JT PETTY! Director JT Petty is carving an intriguing and intelligent path through the horror genre, crossbreeding story elements and narrative approaches and yielding exciting results. His extended NYU thesis ghost story Soft For Digging blended live action and pixilation into a nearly wordless narrative; his sequel Mimic: Sentinel played with what we expected from late-in-the-series installments, fusing elements of Rear Window and dark humor into the franchise; and his documentary S&Man found a new way for an audience to explore the nature of voyeurism and manipulation of media in a non-fictional/fictional context. Petty’s newest experiment The Burrowers successfully splices a Western with a creature feature in a way that will satisfy both camps. Read on to learn more about this tense, slow-burn, character-driven film that introduces a new and disturbing class of monster to the old West, and get a hint of his intentions for his potential reimaginging of the shockumentary Faces of Death. Click the frame or image below to read the full interview!!!

More Cast Members Announced For Alex Aja's PIRANHA 3D!

With PIRANHA 3D gearing up to begin shooting in Arizona shortly, the cast is filling in nicely. E Online is reporting that actress Jessica Szohr (GOSSIP GIRL) has joined the cast, while The Hollywood Insider reports that Jerry O'Connell is also on board. Szohr & O'Connell join recently announced cast members Elisabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss, Ving Rhames, Adam Scott and Dina Meyer (SAW 1-3). Synopsis: They’re back! Every year the population of sleepy Lake Havasu explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for a single, wild weekend - the 4th of July, a riot of sun, drunken fun and sex-crazed mayhem. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers. Havasu sits in the crater formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption, and when earth tremors tear open a crack in the lake floor, all hell breaks through. Piranhas - a million ravenous, razor-toothed monsters, unchanged since the dawn of time. Unstoppable killing machines acting blindly under one primeval impulse: to hunt down anything that moves and strip it to the raw, bleeding bone. In seconds.

Directed by Dror Soref from a script by Soref and Tomas Romero, NOT FORGOTTEN stars Simon Baker (LAND OF THE DEAD) & Paz Vega. Below you'll also find the synopsis and trailer for the flick.

His past hides a black secret, one he hides from his family, one he hides from himself.

When Toby goes missing, Jack knows his past has come back to haunt him. He also knows the only way he can find her is to use the powers of his long forgotten faith, La Santa Muerte, protectors of the sinner, the worshippers of the dead.

Accompanied by the insecure newly-appointed sheriff and a pair of wary FBI agents, Jack’s search takes him deep into his past, to a psychic who visualizes Jack’s secret in terrifying detail, to the squalid barrios and seediest brothels in Mexico City’s underbelly. But the power of the La Santa Muerte is stronger then he ever imagined, as it reaches out to touch his family and reveals an even darker and unexpected web of lies and deceit.

UPDATED: GENETIC OPERA Sung With A Long Island Accent: Big Sell-Out Debut For Long Island Shadow Cast!

For a site based on Long Island, NY it's always a pleasure to cover hometown horror events! REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA made it's Long Island debut in Huntington April 25th, courtesy of the newest shadow cast, the Zydrate Enthusiast Network (ZEN) and Cinema Arts Center. The screening and performance was the kickoff event to the CAC's annual Summer Camp movie series, a run of horror and action double-features every Saturday night at 11:30 starting May 2nd.

    Blind Mag

We first caught REPO during the winter road tour which saw director Darren Lynn Bousman along with co-writer and star Terrance Zdunich take the movie from city to city, with Q&A and contests hosted by horror celebrity Spooky Dan. We were surprised to see a sell-out crowd come from across the NY/NJ/PA area, braving 8 degree wind blasts to see the movie. I'm not sure why, then, I was so surprised to enter the Cinema Arts Center parking lot and see a line stretching out the doorway. Maybe because takes a lot to get Long Islanders motivated to do anything much less show up at a 11:30 on a Saturday night to see a horror rock musical! Yet there it was—a sell-out crowd, with fans again coming from across state lines. The CAC had to stage the event in their largest auditorium—I believe a first for a Summer Camp series screening.

Curtain CallThe ZEN cast really shined in their first performance. Given they only had a few short weeks to prepare they really had the movie down, and the costuming was fantastic. Repo Man's (shadowed by Brendan Murphy) costume was pitch perfect, and their Graverobber (Jim Prego) was uncanny. Not a bad performer among the cast! This first show was advertised as a one-night event. However, at the end of the show as director Jordana Dlugacz was thanking the crowd one of the Cinema Arts Center programmers surprised with confirmation that they would indeed be welcome back during the Summer Camp festival. The last Icons of Fright heard the cast was close to finding a permanent home for a monthly performance, and we'll certainly update you when they have a location and date set.

    UPDATES 5/4/09:

The ZEN Shadowcast will return to the Cinema Arts Center on June 26th. A time has yet to be determined.

Summer Camp Cinema has also informed us that while the screenings are hosted by the Cinema Arts Center, the series is wholly owned and operated by Reel Entertainment Inc. Also Summer Camp has had previous sell-out screenings: GRINDHOUSE featuring an appearance by Zoe Bell, and their annual Pay-to-Get-Out Horror Marathon. (Confirmed films for the marathon this August are SUSPIRIA in a 35mm UK print, KING KONG vs. GODZILLA, and SPIDER BABY. They'd better get ready for another sell out crowd!)

SAM RAIMI/DRAG ME TO HELL - LA FANGO 2009 PANEL!

After years and years away from the genre, the creator/director of THE EVIL DEAD series is back! Sam Raimi took the stage on Friday, April 17th to preview his latest film DRAG ME TO HELL! Raimi surprisingly nervous brought on stage 2 of the stars of the his latest opus, Justin Long and Lorna Raver. (FANGORIA's current cover girl!)

Raimi explained the basic premise of the film. Alison Lohman plays Christine, an eager to please bank teller who makes a choice to foreclose on Mrs. Ganush, a creepy looking gypsy type. What'd ya know? She's definitely a gypsy or witch of some sort, because now she's cursed Christine who will be tortured by the ghoulish old woman until the demons of hell come for her soul.

Raimi debuted a clip from the film that featured Lohman in bed with her boyfriend (played by Justin Long) and a fly hovering above the unconscious Christine. To spoil the madness that insues would be unfair, but let's just say it was trademark vintage EVIL DEAD 2-style Raimi on full display. A fly going in spots you'd never want a fly to crawl in? A creepy witch? Tons of fluids being spewed? Oh yeah, DRAG ME TO HELL will be a blast and a lot of fun.

One of the best questions from the audience was "In DRAG ME TO HELL, will we see Bruce Campbell, Ted Raimi or Venom?" Raimi laughed and confirmed that Venom is not in this picture. Ted shot a brief cameo that you'll probably completely miss, and he never commented on why Campbell's not in this latest flick. As always, he danced around the subject of a new EVIL DEAD film, saying what he usually always tells us eager fans. He'd love to do one but now he's focused on DRAG ME TO HELL and then SPIDER-MAN 4. He did point out that despite earlier reports on-line, he's only signed to helm SPIDER-MAN 4 and not 4 & 5 like speculated.

Justin Long talked a bit about starting out in the genre with JEEPERS CREEPERS and jumping at the chance to work with Sam. Lorna was unfamiliar with the horror genre but had a great time playing the evil Mrs. Ganush.

This panel and the clip shown solidified that Raimi is back to what he does best in a big way. At the close of the panel, Creation Entertainment's Adam Malin and FANGO's Tony Timpone presented Sam with a lifetime achievement award. Below are the pictures!

CLIVE BARKER/HELLRAISER REUNION - LA FANGO 2009 PANEL!

Originally intended to be 2 separate panels, FANGO opted to combine both the Clive Barker solo panel with the HELLRAISER reunion (featuring stars Doug Bradley and Ashley Laurence) for this late Saturday afternoon event in the main auditorium.

Honestly, if you've heard any of the making-of HELLRAISER stories on any of the special edition DVD's that are available, you've heard all these stories before.

However, it's always nice to see Bradley and Laurence together. (I mean, doesn't Ashley continue to get even better looking through the years?!)

Barker did give another status update on his latest books. He's still working on his epic novel THE SCARLET GOSPELS, which would feature both the characters of Harry D'Amour from LORD OF ILLUSIONS and Pinhead from HELLRAISER. (Barker promises to kill off Pinhead once and for all in THE SCARLET GOSPELS). He says he's still one more re-write away from finishing that novel. He's also done with the latest ARABAT book which he submitted last week.

When Doug Bradley began talking about all of his upcoming projects, both Barker and Laurence slumped over in their chairs and pretended to fall asleep from boredom. (See that below!)

GRACE - LA FANGO 2009 PANEL!

Friday evening, April 17th boasted the panel for the eagerly anticipated Anchor Bay release GRACE. ICONS Robg. moderated the panel with writer/director Paul Solet, producer Adam Green (HATCHET) and star Jordan Ladd. The FANGO audience was treated to a brand-new red-band trailer before the guests all took the stage.

Solet talked about the humble beginnings of the GRACE project, starting from the premiere of the short film version at the 2004 LA FANGO, which got the attention of Green who would go on to help shepherd the full length feature version. After briefly talking about the production in Regina, Canada, we were treated to a full scene from the movie, the heartbreaking "birthing" scene. If you're familiar with the original short film version, it's the scene that ends that short and ends the first act of the feature.

Jordan discussed the challenges of tackling the role of Madeline and explained how she spent a lot of time talking with friends who were in fact mother's to understand the bond between child and mother. Solet also admitted to being very open to female feedback all through the writing and re-writing process.

GRACE will be available later this year in a full loaded DVD, but after a few more festival screenings and a potential limited theatrical run. Later in the day, Solet signed promotional GRACE baby bottles at the Anchor Bay table. See full pictures below:

NIGHT OF THE DEMONS - LA FANGO 2009 PANEL!

One of the biggest highlights for the FANGORIA WEEKEND OF HORRORS was the sneak peek first look at the upcoming NIGHT OF THE DEMONS remake, which took place on Saturday, April 18th. On stage to talk about the film was director/co-writer Adam Gierasch, (from left to right) producer Greg McKay, actresses Bobbi Sue Luther, Shannon Elizabeth, Tiffany Shepis and co-writer Jace Anderson. (Monica Keena [far left] eventually joined the group half way through the panel.

Gierasch kicked off the panel serious, by trying to explain that the movie is actually a film about battling personal demons. "Ok, it's not. It's a movie about f***ing demons, OK?"

Everyone on stage then began talking a bit about the origins of the project, and their characters in the movie. Shannon Elizabeth couldn't remember the name of her character (Um, Angela? As in the lead of all the NIGHT OF THE DEMONS movies?), but had a great experience portraying the "bad girl" for a change. Tiffany Shepis promised that the pivotal role of "Door Girl Diana" would totally rock us.

The group then showed off 2 exclusive clips from the movie itself. The first featuring a demonized Michael Copon (as Dex) having sex with his girlfriend (Diora Baird) and in essense making her demonized once he ummm... parked it in the rear if you know what I mean. The second clip took place in an underground lair where Monica Keena, Edward Furlong and John Beach are surrounded by several demonized party-goers while attempting to escape the grounds.

The clips definitely made me excited for the movie itself. Cool looking demons? Hot chicks? Halloween party? Punk rock soundtrack? Demon anal sex? A confirmed Linnea Quigley cameo? I'm sold. It looks FUN as all hell. Pictures from the panel below!

LAID TO REST - LA FANGO 2009 PANEL!

Another one of the weekend's most anticipated panels was for LAID TO REST, which took place on Saturday April 18th on the main stage. Shock Till You Drop's Ryan Rotten moderated and the panel featured (from left to right) producer Chang Tseng, (Chrome Skull himself) Nick Principe, lead star Bobbi Sue Luther, Thomas Dekker, Anthony Fitzgerald, writer/director Robert Hall, Sean Whalen and 2 of the co-producers.

They showed off one of the film's most memorable death sequences involving Johnathon Schaech and his real life girlfriend Jana Kramer. (Definitely my favorite Chrome Skull kill from the movie) Nick Principe couldn't help but gush over what an honor it is to be featured on the front cover of FANGORIA magazine.

The group talked a bit about the casting process, as well as filming in Maryland and the overall production itself which was a complete team effort amongst friends that became family on this shoot. (You can watch the panel in it's entirety on FANGO's site right HERE!) In the meantime, check out the photos below!

THE HILLS RUN RED - LA FANGO 2009 PANEL!

One of my personal most anticipated panels for the weekend was the preview of THE HILLS RUN RED, which took place in the West Hall on Sunday, April 18th. The panel kicked off with a brand new exclusive red-band trailer for the film, and then guests from the movie took the stage. Joining us (from left to right) were Tad Hilgenbrink, director Dave Parker, producer Robert Burnett and star Janet Montgomery.

We talked about the origins of the project, which started as a low budget feature for Fever Dreams before ended up at Joel Silver's genre based production company Dark Castle, as well as the character design for the film's killer "Babyface", easily the coolest looking "slasher" to grace the screen in years. Tad explained the story of the film via his character's role in it. He plays Tyler, a documentary filmmaker obsessed with tracking down the long lost notorious genre flick "The Hills Run Red", which has long been missing and long rumored to be incomplete. While trekking the locations of the original film's shoot with his girlfriend & best friend, they discover that the film never stopped shooting and that it's killer, Babyface is still in those woods.

We also were treated to an exclusive scene from the film, which was technically a scene within the original Hills movie in which Babyface strings up a victim between 2 trees using rope and barb-wire.

All I can say is Babyface looks bad-ass! Loved all the footage we got to see during this panel. The cast & crew also talked a bit about filmming the movie in Bulgaria. Actress Montgomery actually shot HILLS RUN RED back to back with WRONG TURN 3 in Bulgaria. Lastly, Burnett did a trivia segment with the audience to give away some HILLS crew caps.

Overall, a great panel and a film we strongly recommend being on the look out for! Pictures below!

DARK HOUSE - LA FANGO 2009 PANEL!

Sunday afternoon, April 18th, the panel for DARK HOUSE kicked off the days festivities in the West Hall. We were treated to the first preview of the film and then joined on stage by actors Matt Cohen, Diane Salinger, writer/director Darin Scott, Jeffrey Combs, Meghan Ory, Bevin Prince and Scott Whyte.

Scott (who produced TALES FROM THE HOOD, STEPFATHER 2 & MENACE II SOCIETY) explained the film's origin to the crowd. "What we wanted to do was make a funhouse ride of horror. The story is about a massacre that took place in this house years ago where a bunch of children were killed by a very evil woman. Now, an entrepreneur who puts on haunted house attractions all over the country, he decides to exploit the history of the house by putting on a haunted attraction there. He hires a troupe of actors, one of whom, he doesn't realize, was present at the massacre. She asked to come back to the house and perform. So they all come and get trapped in the house. The house uses a holographic illusion system to project monsters. They have hundreds of monsters that they can make look real. What happens is a ghost takes over the system and makes all of the monsters real threats. And they start taking people apart one by one."

The actors were completely complimentary of each other on stage, and RE-ANIMATOR alumni Jeffrey Combs couldn't stop praising Scott as a director, which led the filmmaker to reach for his wallet and throw Combs a few bucks for his kind words. It was a motif that continued through out the panel for when anyone complimented someone else, that person would reach for their wallet.

Easily one of the most fun panels the entire weekend, we'll be on the look out for DARK HOUSE and keep you posted on it's release as soon as we hear it! Pictures below!
