Producers Talk Freddy Casting In NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Update!

A few days ago, it was confirmed that Platinum Dunes had found it's new Freddy Krueger, and it's Oscar nominated actor Jackie Earle Haley. (WATCHMEN's Rorschach, fiends!) Earlier this morning, producer Brad Fuller checked in via the official Platinum Dunes blog over on Bloody-Disgusting's site to address the recent casting news.
"It should come as no surprise then that Jackie Earle Haley is playing Freddy Krueger. He was the only person we ever considered for the role. I realized that he was ONLY person who could play the role. We can't make all the fans happy, but those of you who are open to a new version of the Nightmare story have to be as excited as we are. Come on people, an Academy Award Nominated actor is playing Krueger. This was no small accomplishment, but everyone involved wanted it to happen. We all know that Jackie is an unbelievable actor, but I want to let you in on something you might not know. Sam, Drew and I had drinks with Jackie and were elated to learn that he is just like us. He is a huge fan of horror, and well aware of the rightful place Freddy Krueger holds in the horror pantheon. Quite simply, he knows what he has to do, and is very up to the task."
On director Sam Beyer, Fuller writes, "He is so thrilled about taking all the years of experience he has in making breathtaking images and turning it into a horrifying film. He is uncompromising and a perfectionist. I am loving working with him because he cares so much, that I feel like we are all in good, safe hands."
He also confirms the casting of actor Kyle Gallner (again, someone I've loved in just about everything I've seen him in from THE SHIELD to SMALLVILLE to SUBLIME and most recently THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT).
Check out more quotes from Fuller on the B-D blog HERE. He promises to share plenty of pics shortly on creating the Freddy make-up for Jackie.
The new A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake starts shooting in May in Chicago under the direction of Samuel Beyer from a script by Wesley Strick, later revised by Eric Heissere. Brad Fuller, Andrew Form & Michael Bay are producing.
More when we hear it!
