Yowza!  Hey -- Michael Myers, you're getting a little predictable over here. Perhaps...I dunno...why not just take Haddonfield by surprise one year and make your annual visit on December 25 instead? And hey -- could you imagine what Argento, in his prime, could have done with twinkling Christmas lights, pure virgin white snow, some Italian hotties and a pick-ax? Or perhaps what kind of eye damage Fulci could have done with an aluminum Christmas tree? Zombies in a blizzard? Oh -- the wasted opportunities... Instead we've been treated to the cinematic equivalent of fruitcake with crap like "Christmas Evil", "Don't Open 'Til Christmas" and...err, "Rocky V".”

ROB ZOMBIE Talks HALLOWEEN 2!

Rob Zombie recently chatted with FearNET's Spider (his brother & POWERMAN 5000 frontman) for the first time since the announcement was made that he'd be returning to write & direct HALLOWEEN 2 (or H2 as it's being called). Here's a sample of what he had to say about the upcoming sequel!

On why he's returning? "For some reason Halloween was one of those shoots that was stressful and crazed from day one. Everything was a struggle and a problem. So, when it was done I was ready to be done. Then time goes by, you regenerate, forget and the idea of a sequel seems okay. But by that point I thought someone else was already doing it. So I just forgot about it. Then I ran into Matt Stein from Weinstein Company at the Scream Awards and found out that it was still up for grabs. So I grabbed it. I love my version of the characters and can't wait to take them further. This sequel will be different than the first film, much like The Devil's Rejects was different from House of 1000 Corpses."

As of now, only Tyler Mane is officially signed on to return as Michael Myers for H2. Rumor had it that Malcolm McDowell might not be back as Dr. Sam Loomis. (And yes, he survived in the director's cut.) However, Zombie says, "I've talked with Malcolm and Scout and both are ready to jump back into the madness. There are a few new characters, but things will change a lot over the next few months so I can't really shed any light on that."

He also says that TYRANNOSAURUS REX should be his next film after "Halloween Two" and tells FearNET that composer Tyler Bates has already started working on new music for the new HALLOWEEN. Read the entire article HERE!

More when we hear it!

New MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D TV Spot! Will A Theater Near You Have It In 3D?!

Lionsgate has provided us with a brand new TV spot for MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D. (Ironically, the TV spot runs a full minute, which is longer then the 40 second 2nd theatrical trailer.) Regardless, you can check out BOTH below. (See 'em in high quality over on our newly launched You Tube page: www.youtube.com/iconsoffright)

The real question... will YOU be able to see MY BLOODY VALENTINE in 3D? According to an article in The New York Times, MY BLOODY VALENTINE will only play on 900 screens in 3D across the country. 1600 screens will show the traditional 2D version. If successful, hopefully theaters will upgrade their equipment for future 3D fare like FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP 3D and PIRANHA 3D. The article's pretty interesting overall. Check it out HERE!

MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D was directed by Patrick Lussier (DRACULA 2000) from a script by Todd Farmer (JASON X) & Zane Smith and stars SUPERNATURAL's Jensen Ackles, Jaime King (THE TRIPPER), Kerr Smith (FINAL DESTINATION), Edi Gathegi, Kevin Tighe, Megan Boone & Tom Atkins.

ICONS OF FRIGHT'S BEST & WORST HORROR MOVIES OF 2008!

This is it! With 2008 finally coming to a close, the entire ICONS staff (consisting of Robg., Mike C., Adam Barnick, Jsyn, Danny Price & Beth) all contributed their all time best (and worst) horror films for the year 2008! Did Tomas Alfredson's Swedish vampire flick LET THE RIGHT ONE IN steal everyone's top slot? Or did that honor go to the instant classic TRICK 'R TREAT? How did QUARANTINE fare up against the original Spanish version [REC]? Did January's monster flick CLOVERFIELD make the cut? Or how about ICONS fave's THE SIGNAL and SPIRAL? Yay or nay on REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA? Who hated or loved THE STRANGERS? Or SAW V this year? ALL of this and MORE is at the following link! (Or click the image below!)

EDEN LOG Trailer Breaks at IGN

Magnet films has released the trailer for the upcoming EDEN LOG exclusively at IGN (you can check the embeddable version below). EDEN LOG is the fifth in Magnet's Six Shooter film series, which has previously included unique genre entries from around the worlds such as LET THE RIGHT ONE IN ( Sweden ), SPECIAL (US), Nacho Vigalondo’s TIMECRIMES (Spain), Ollie Blackburn’s DONKEY PUNCH (UK), and BIG MAN JAPAN (Japan).

The latest press release gives us this on the film: A man wakes up deep inside a cave. Suffering amnesia, he has no recollection of how he came to be here or of what happened to the man whose body he finds beside him. Tailed by a mysterious creature, he must continue through this strange and fantastic world. Enclosed, Tolbiac has no other option to reach the surface than to use REZO ZERO, secret observing cells in this cemetery-like abandoned mine. He embarks upon this journey guided by the roots of a plant, leading the way and the main subject of attention of the REZO.

This is the story of the rise of a forgotten man, sometimes informed by the archives of abandoned laboratories, which punctuate this subterranean network and at other times by his own strangely amplified instinct. During his search for the surface, Tolbiac must uncover the secret of what once lived in this network; but has this “mystery” truly left?

The film synopsis is:

Years ago on a calm, dark night, Dwayne Hopper's life was shattered when his young son Kyle was abducted from his bedroom and disappeared without a trace. Kyle was the the final victim in a string of fourteen local disappearances. Dwayne, his wife Janine and daughter Daisy were forced to abandon hope that he would one day be found.

10 years later...Dwayne remains on the police force, but his family life has crumbled around him. Janine has lost faith in her husband just as Daisy has lost faith in her parents. One fateful night, Dwayne's suspicions are aroused when he notices striking similarities between a current inmate (Perkins), and the purported culprit behind the abductions.

Upon investigation, Dwayne discovers proof of Perkins' guilt during a tense search of the suspect's basement. In a fit of rage, Dwayne kills Perkins, but unbeknownst to him, the fourteen missing victims are very much alive. During captivity, they were dehumanized and trained to kill at random. Perkins' murder ignites a wave of carnage which sweeps across the entire town, with Dwayne's own son as one of the marauding psychopaths.

The Hopper family winds up taking refuge in a barricaded police station - but no walls are able to keep pure evil from breaking through. Dwayne and his family are caught up in a terrifying struggle for survival which pits them against a horde of brainwashed, bloodthirsty, "creatures." Who will survive the night?

In the terrifying tradition of classic nature-gone-amok films such as The Birds and Piranha, the 12th installment in the popular “Maneater” series also stars Sebastien Roberts (TV’s “Providence”), Sarah Allen (TV’s “Secret Window”), and Jayne Heitmeyer (TV’s “Earth: Final Conflict”). They join Devin in his quest to stop the deadly swarm. When Jane’s daughter Kelsey meets Eli (Englund), the odd “wasp keeper,” and other locals who all seem to buzz, things get even stranger. Be afraid. Be very afraid, if you see a Black Swarm approaching!

It's Official! ROB ZOMBIE Is Back For HALLOWEEN 2!

Shock Till You Drop broke the news several weeks back, and now it's official! According to a post on Variety, it's been confirmed that Rob Zombie will in fact return to write and direct the sequel to his remake of John Carpenter's classic HALLOWEEN, HALLOWEEN 2 (going by the title H2)! Shooting begins in March of 2009 with an expected October 2009 release! (Good! Let's skip the August release this time around!) Tyler Mane is back as Michael Myers, and while yet-to-be confirmed, we expect Malcolm McDowell and Scout Taylor-Compton will also be back.

The article says, "Dimension Films and Rob Zombie are teaming for another chapter of "HALLOWEEN," and he's racing to scare up the pic for release in October."

Zombie will write and direct "H2," the sequel to his 2007 reinvention of the John Carpenter horror classic. Production will begin in March.

The new film picks up right as the first remake ended, following the aftermath of Michael Myers' murderous rampage through the eyes of the sister he hunted.

Zombie said it won't resemble the original second installment, as the "House of 1000 Corpses" helmer continues to take the franchise in different directions.

Zombie took Carpenter's original and stamped it with an original storyline that treated Myers as a clinical psychopath. The film grossed $60 million domestically in 2007.

Zombie had told Dimension chief and TWC co-chairman Bob Weinstein he wanted nothing to do with a sequel. But just like the franchise's villain, Zombie was compelled to come back.

"I was so burned out. (But) I took a long break, made a record and I got excited again," Zombie said. "Now, we'll be hauling ass, and that's the problem making a movie called 'HALLOWEEN': If you come out Nov. 1 or after, nobody cares. If it was called anything else, I'd be fine."

Malek Akkad of Trancas Intl. Films will produce with Spectacle Entertainment's Andy Gould.

Are You Ready For THE CROW Reboot?!

Ready or not, THE CROW will "fly again". Variety is reporting that director Stephen Norrington (BLADE, THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN) has signed on to write and direct a reinvention of THE CROW based on the comic created by James O'Barr.

The article continues, "Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media is negotiating with producer Ed Pressman to acquire the film franchise and finance the film. Pressman produced the 1994 Alex Proyas-directed screen transfer, in which rock musician Eric Draven is murdered trying to rescue his girlfriend from thugs, and returns from the dead one year later to exact vengeance. Though the original became a gothic-style hit that grossed nearly $100 million worldwide, it is primarily remembered for a tragic accident in which star Brandon Lee was killed during filming."

For Norrington, THE CROW deal marks the end of a long screen sabbatical. After making his breakthrough with the Marvel Comics hero "BLADE," Norrington took on a big-budget comic transfer with “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.” Neither the director nor his star, Sean Connery, has made a film since.

Norrington said he felt demoralized by that experience, and the accomplished sculptor spent the next five years writing and working on his art. He made a deal to direct “Clash of the Titans” for Warner Bros., but left the project, he said, because he was “unable to excite Warner Bros. with my take, or influence the screenplay to any comfortable extent.” That pic goes into production early next year with Louis Leterrier at the helm.

Norrington resolved to focus on independent projects, and sparked to an approach on “The Crow” from Relativity production chief Tucker Tooley and Pressman. Norrington had a relationship with Pressman when they came close to making “Mutant Chronicles” several years ago. Both embraced Norrington’s vision of the antihero, which Norrington said will be different than the film Proyas made.

“Whereas Proyas’ original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style,” Norrington told Daily Variety.

Now before people start crying foul, let's keep in mind that all the sequels, THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS, THE CROW: SALVATION (which I actually like) and even the dreaded THE CROW: WICKED PRAYER were all essentially remakes of the original. While I can't imagine improving upon the already perfect first film by Alex Proyas (from a brilliantly adapted script by David J. Schow) with Brandon Lee, I'm curious to see what the director of BLADE will do with this. Remember BLADE was the first succesful Marvel movie and paved the way for X-MEN and then SPIDER-MAN and every other comic book related movie since.

Casting wise, they shouldn't go with a unknown actor. They've done that 3 times with the sequels and it's never worked. My two cents? Go for a big celebrity you wouldn't expect, ala Heath Ledger as the Joker. I was one of those fans that didn't "get" that casting at first, but now of course it's one of the best performances in a comic book related film ever. Let's do the same with THE CROW.

Chris Weitz Directing TWILIGHT Sequel, NEW MOON!

Chris Weitz, the director behind THE GOLDEN COMPASS, ABOUT A BOY & producer of the AMERICAN PIE movies is officially on board to helm the TWILIGHT sequel NEW MOON, replacing TWILIGHT director Catherine Hardwicke. Weitz issued the following letter to reassure fans that the sequel is in good hands:

Meanwhile, author Stephenie Meyer endorsed Weitz in this letter on her website:

December 13, 2008
Hey guys,

There's been a lot of worry and speculation on the boards lately, and I want to let you know what's going on.

First of all, like you, I'm sad that Catherine is not continuing on with us for New Moon. I'm going to miss her, not just as a brilliant director, but also as a friend. She has such a distinct, authentic voice that did amazing things for Twilight. I'm looking forward to every movie she does in the future.

And she didn't leave us empty handed. We still get the benefits of her amazing casting and the beautiful visual world she created. This foundation puts us in a good place for New Moon.

Summit Films is moving forward with a new director for New Moon. They've asked Chris Weitz, director of American Pie, About a Boy, and The Golden Compass, to join us, and I am very pleased to announce that he's agreed to be a part of our Twilight world. I've had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible. He is also very aware of you, the fans, and wants to keep you all extremely happy. (Torches and pitchforks are not going to be necessary.)

I'm excited to work with Chris and I think he brings a lot to the table, not the least of which for me is that he wrote the screenplay for and directed one of my favorite movies of all time, About a Boy. I'm really looking forward to seeing his vision for New Moon.

Below is a letter from Chris to you. I think you'll get a glimpse in this note of how cool it's going to be having Chris as part of our community.

Based on the hit novel series by Stephenie Meyer, the first TWILIGHT was directed by Catherine Hardwicke and stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Nikki Reed, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Jackson Rathbone, Edi Gathegi, Rachelle Lefevre, Ashley Greene, Billy Burke, Nikki Reed, Cam Cigandet, Kellan Lutz, Anna Kendrick and Taylor Lautner.

FIRST LOOK: MAIDENHEAD!

The cinematic vampire is no longer in retreat.

Popular in cycles, vampires in horror have been presented as everything from the romantic to the repugnant. With as many forms of vampire as there are it's not remarkable to note that the films featuring them have explored, stylistically, everything from the sublimely subtle to the supremely silly. This year the bloodsucker pendulum is swinging from the plasma-thin pop horror of “Twilight” to strangely beautiful “Let The Right One In”. Jim Spanos's “Maidenhead” falls somewhere between the beautiful and the silly. It's a humorous and unique take on the genre, featuring several striking performances and a stylishly retro look that immediately sets it apart.

Starring AJ Bowen (“The Signal”) as Martin, a young man with a unique disposition. A quiet, awkward man who attends bible study, enjoys the library and a quiet first date over a cup of coffee. He is leading a curious life, because his bedridden father (Michael Parks) kind of just happens to be a vampire. Martin is both caring for him and holding him captive, tied to a bed upstairs to protect the population at large, or perhaps just to avoid embarrassment. And of course, he's there to help fulfill Dad's unconventional dietary requirement for fresh virgin blood (god forbid it's not virgin, Dad is particular). Bottle-feeding has never been...quiet so disturbingly upsetting. Of course, all Martin really needs, all he really wants, is a girlfriend. But you know how it goes when your Dad is a incomprehensible immortal invalid. It complicates things considerably.

One of the most salient aspects of this film is the peculiar mood and feel, accented by the rich and commanding black and white photography of David Olive. Olive's cinematography vividly underlines the strangeness of the story, showing off crisp edges, slightly overexposed exteriors, and the occasional odd angle. It's look is off-beat without being too avant-garde as to be off-putting or distracting. Just weird enough to catch our attention, it looks like a lost episode of “The Twilight Zone”. We have to say it, it's unusual in low-budget horror today to see director and cinematographer care so much about how their film looks. In an age when even a sloppy $25,000 DV backyard zombie pictures can get a major DVD push, it's nice to see that there's a team of people crafting something that's as interesting to look at as their story is to follow.

Layered between the unique look and weird story are some truly notable performances. With AJ Bowen, we're certain from his work in this and in “The Signal”, that this actor is going to quietly make a name for himself. When presented without much dialogue to work with actors have a tendency to overplay it. Bowen manages to find his balance, and plays it weird, funny, and awkward without crossing that fine line into camp. Michael Parks, on the other hand, has plenty to say, except we can't understand more than a few words of it. He plays the bed-ridden vampire as a pathetically whiny child with a seemingly swollen tongue. Parks would need subtitles to be understood. At first it seems an odd acting choice, but as the film progresses Parks performance really becomes the core of “Maidenhead”'s distinctive humor. I mean, are we looking at the the first mumblecore vampire film? Possibly.

When compared to a straight-up, conventional vampire film “Maidenhead” will seem bizarre and experimental, but it's not so as to be inaccessible. The entire creative team on this film have really put together the kind of horror that's rare today: Quietly creepy, witty, and refreshingly entertaining.

-Mike Cucinotta

Producers Talk New FACES OF DEATH!

In our recent interview with WHILE SHE WAS OUT writer/director Susan Montford, the filmmaker and producer Don Murphy offered some tid-bits on what we can expect from J.T. Petty's new take on FACES OF DEATH, the "remake/reimagining" based on the cult-classic VHS series.

Murphy explains, "We're doing a modern day version of FACES OF DEATH, which is inspired by the old video tapes. We got the rights to the old video tapes, and the basic premise is pretty cool. Which is, back then, you had to get this video tape from Dr. Gross and it was kind of under the table; the sort of thing nobody would talk about. These horrifying, fucked up and crazy videos. Nowadays, you can find people beheaded on Rotten.com. So how do you take this underground to the next level? And the writer/director, this very talented kid named JT Petty – he’s written a screenplay with the idea being that Dr. Gross is the leader. Nobody knows what he looks like, but he’s the leader, the head of a group. If you want to get hardcore video? The way you get hardcore video is by trading hardcore video with the “Faces Of Death” group. The idea is to try to turn Dr. Gross ultimately into the new Freddy or the new Jason. Doctor’s are inherently scary to begin with anyways!"

Sounds like trading snuff via the "torrants", which is definitely an interesting take. And with a filmmaker like J.T. Petty at the helm, this definitely should be interesting!

Early Talk For FRIDAY THE 13TH 2? Also, Mrs. Voorhees DOES Appear In New Flick!

Although A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET will be Brad Fuller, Andrew Form & Michael Bay's next Platinum Dunes project, the producers are optimistic & hopeful to do another FRIDAY THE 13TH movie. Fuller & Form told Shock Till You Drop, "I pray that there's a sequel to Friday the 13th. We want to go back to Crystal Lake. We love that character. We're talking about a screenplay and stuff. I don't know. I don't know what we'll do. Elm Street is our focus right now." Judging from the trailers, the new FRIDAY looks like a lot of fun, so I'm game for FRIDAY THE 13TH 2. (Read more in the original SHOCK post HERE!)

Also, early test screenings initially reported that Mrs. Voorhees (played by Nana Visitor) and little Jason Voorhees (Caleb Guss) were absent from the final film. (Despite hearing Mrs. Voorhees voice-over in the trailers.) Apparently not the case. Producer Brad Fuller told SHOCK, "Mama Voorhees is in the movie. Little Jason is in the movie. There was a time they were not in the movie, we were having problems with a scene. We figured it out, and now they're in. We enhanced two deaths after the test screening. When we watched them with an audience, we were not getting the reaction we wanted so we made them better." More on that HERE!

Platinum Dunes NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Remake Official! Starts Shooting Spring 2009!

Shock Till You Drop recently sat down and chatted with Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller & Andrew Form and the duo confirmed that rights issues have been cleared for A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and that will be their next project. Back in July, Wesley Strick was announced as the writer of the new "re-imagining".

Fuller told Shock, "It's like what we're doing to FRIDAY THE 13TH. It's not Freddy cracking jokes. We want to make a horrifying movie. The concept is so scary, don't fall asleep or you'll die. This guy gets you when you're most vulnerable, in your sleep. We love that. That's the basis of the movie. It'll be most similar to the first one but in terms of kills and dreams we'll borrow from the entire series."

The article also confirms that with the reboot will come a new Freddy Krueger. However, the pair are hopeful that Robert Englund will participate in some fashion, most likely a cameo as Englund has said in public he'd love to do. Full article on SHOCK's site HERE!

SCREAMERS 2 DVD Artwork!

I've always felt the first "Screamers" is woefully overlooked film, but who knows what to expect with direct-to-DVD sequels. Hopes aren't high, but here's the artwork for "SCREAMERS 2: THE HUNTING" for those interested

SCREAMERS: THE HUNTING follows a group of humans from earth who arrive on Sirius 6-B to investigate an SOS signal sent out from the planet, which has been supposedly deserted since the destruction of the man-made weapons known as "screamers." Once the squad arrives, they find a group of human survivors eking out an existence in an old military outpost, but more important, they discover that the threat of the screamers has become even more insidious, now that they're able to morph into human form.

SCREAMERS: THE HUNTING was directed by Sheldon Wilson directed from a script by Miguel Tejada-Flores and stars Gina Holden, Greg Bryk, Tim Rozon, Stephen Amell and Christopher Redman. The DVD will have a featurette on the making-of the film. No DVD artwork for either title yet, but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, check out the trailer to SCREAMERS: THE HUNTING at our previous news post HERE!

They've made available several behind the scenes videos on YouTube (see below). As of today full-length versions of Stuart Gordon's episode "Eater" and Larry Fessenden's "Skin and Bones" are available on the site. We're waiting for word on whether FearNet will be making available the 5 episodes of the series which remain unaired by NBC.

UPDATE: FearNet will only be showing the episodes that aired on NBC.

WOLFMAN Moves To November 6th, 2009!

As reported a few weeks back, it appears that Universal's upcoming remake of their classic monster flick THE WOLFMAN has been pushed from it's April 3rd release date all the way to November 6th, 2009. No word on why Universal's delaying the picture. Maybe it'll fare better in the post-Halloween season? Shock Till You Drop suggests that there's still an ongoing debate about how to handle the werewolf transformation. (Rick Baker won the Oscar for AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, so Universal should just let him do it his way rather then rely on CGI as most sources are suggesting they're planning.)

The new update of the classic Universal monster is being helmed by director Joe Johnston from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker (SE7EN) & David Self and stars Benicio Del Toro (SIN CITY), Anthony Hopkins (THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS), Emily Blunt (WIND CHILL) & Hugo Weaving (V FOR VENDETTA). Rick Baker provides the make-up FX for the new WOLF MAN! Check out Mezco's WOLFMAN action figure right HERE! Read the official synopsis HERE!

EXCLUSIVE: Tim "2001 Maniacs" Sullivan's Latest Writing Project Revealed: MONK AND MERCENARY!

Tim Sullivan, writer, director, journalist, and all around advocate of the horror genre whose gore fueled "2001 Maniacs" and ghostly mystery "Driftwood" captured the attention of horror fiends worldwide over the last few years has announced exclusively to Icons of Fright that he will be undertaking a new writing project, the action/fantasy/thrilled entitled "Monk and Mercenary". Sullivan has teamed up with Estonian music icons, who developed the original story.

Based on an original story concept by Thomas and Tarmo Urb, Sullivan will co-write the screenplay with the elder Urb, Tarmo, who will produce the film through his production company, Karmonika Productions. Swiss financial conglomerate Trilliance Capital has funded development. A graphic novel is in the works from Radical Publishing.

Infusing the explosive action of a James Bond thriller with a new age mysticism, “MONK AND MERCENARY” follows the exploits of a hardened hit man hired to assassinate the enigmatic protector of an Amazonian rain forest targeted for environmental destruction.

“The time to tell this story is now”, voiced Urb. “The world is a dangerous place, but it is also one filled with immense opportunity to awaken to its higher purpose. What better way to entertain and enlighten than with the tale of a killer who does just that?”

Said Sullivan, “Tarmo Urb is one of the most unique individuals I have ever known. A legend in his native country as both a revolutionary and a healer, I was intrigued by the intense personal experience Tarmo brings to this project. He has survived five years of Soviet jails and assassination attempts by the KGB to emerge as a major creative visionary here in the states. “MONK AND MERCENARY” will tap into those diverse experiences with the aim of redefining the action thriller genre.”

TIM SULLIVAN began his career as a Jersey teenager pumping fake blood for the 80s cult horror flick THE DEADLY SPAWN (1983). In 1990, Tim moved to LA where he worked in development at New Line Cinema for five years. It was there that he first encountered DETROIT ROCK CITY (1999), which he eventually co-produced, finding himself yet again pumping fake blood- though this time for Gene Simmons of the rock group KISS. Having formed New Rebellion Entertainment, Tim made his directorial debut with the Lions Gate horror-comedy, 2001 MANIACS (2005), followed by the hip hop fright fest, SNOOP DOGG'S HOOD OF HORROR (2006). With these admittedly over-the-top, decidedly non-PC “Splatsticks" under his belt, for his follow-up, DRIFTWOOD (2006), the filmmaker decided to tackle another type of horror: the post-Columbine American trend of privately owned and operated “Attitude Adjustment Camps” for youths deemed troubled and problematic by their parents. A complete flip in vibe from previous efforts, DRIFTWOOD has been described as 'Stand By Me' meets 'Ghost Story'. Its Sullivan’s way of expressing his driving philosophy that no one should be forced to be what they are not, for if and when that does occur, the real nightmares truly do take shape. Next up, a double dose of 2001 Maniacs; first the graphic novel from Avatar Press followed by BEVERLY HELLBILLYS, it's much anticipated and demanded sequel. After that, Sullivan will return to more subtle and elegant horror with BROTHERS OF THE BLOOD, a haunting vampire romance starring British sensation Mitch Hewer of SKINS. www.myspace.com/newrebellion

THE BROTHERS URB's life in the performing arts has spanned many decades and taken many forms. Having won notoriety at an early age as a popular performing duo, Thomas and Tarmo Urb were the first musical act to ever play a solo concert in the prestigious Estonia Concert Hall during Soviet times, an engagement they continue to sell out annually. Upon release of their latest album and accompanying concert video, CITIZEN OF SUN, the Brothers Urb embarked on a widely successful global tour extending from the Temples of Japan to the amphitheaters of Brazil, culminating in a televised performance at the Rio De Janiero Earth Summit. Their songs are believed by many to have a transformative effect, bringing about change and ideological revolution. So powerful is the message of the Brothers Urb’s music that Tarmo once spent 5 years in and out of Soviet jails in an effort by the government to silence his voice. It was only when younger brother Thomas (who, during Tarmo’s incarceration, had made his mark as a highly respected actor in the Soviet film industry) wrote a pleading letter to then President Gorbachev that Tarmo was finally released… only to face an assassination attempt by the KGB, an attempt that failed when the operation’s chief officer became a fan of the Urb’s music and message, allowing the brothers to defect by the skin of their teeth. As dramatic as any book or motion picture, the true story of the Urb Brothers inspired the 1991 best selling novel KAKSI KAUPUNKIA (TWO CITIES), written by Finnish novelist Harry Sirola. Today, Thomas Urb has returned to Estonia where he continues to act on the international stage and screen, having just completed a leading role in esteemed German film director Nana Dzhordzhadze’s powerful RAINBOWMAKER. Tarmo Urb currently resides in Los Angeles, California spearheading Karmonika Productions, a motion picture production company focused on bringing the Urb Brothers’ varied lives and artistry to creative culmination. www.urbbrothers.com

Catherine Hardwicke NOT Returning For TWILIGHT Sequel, NEW MOON!

Hot of the heels of the announcement that shooting on the TWILIGHT sequel NEW MOON could begin as early as March of 2009, Variety reports that director Catherine Hardwicke will not be returning to helm the second feature. The following Variety piece explains all the details:

"In an unusual move after the successful launch of a franchise that has already generated $138.6 million, the upstart distrib (Summit Entertainment) is not bringing director Catherine Hardwicke back to direct NEW MOON. Summit and Hardwicke cite Summit's wish to rush the movie into production as one reason for their split. Summit wants to release the picture, which will demand substantial CGI work, by the end of 2009 or the start of 2010. A former production designer, Hardwicke wanted more prep time."

"TWILIGHT" scripter Melissa Rosenberg handed in a draft of "NEW MOON" the weekend that "TWILIGHT" opened. Hardwicke wanted more time to work on it; Summit announced it was going ahead with "NEW MOON" on November 22, with no director attached. Negotiations lasted two weeks before Hardwicke formally passed on the film Saturday.

The problem that stalled negotiations was that Hardwicke had strong opinions about what to do with the next installment, and so did Summit. The debate was how to focus the adaptation of the second book, which deals more with giant werewolves than vampires, as well as the long depression of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), after her vampire lover (Rob Pattinson) leaves her. One issue was how to get more of teen heartthrob Pattinson into the film. (Rosenberg has figured out a device to achieve this.) But Hardwicke, burned out from her "TWILIGHT" labors, simply wasn't willing to jam this movie with a script that still needed months of development.

"I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct 'New Moon,'" said Hardwicke. "Directing 'Twilight' has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel -- it is a great story."

"Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the 'Twilight' franchise, and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects," said Summit production prexy Erik Feig. "We as a studio have a mandate to bring the next installment in the franchise to the big screen in a timely fashion so that fans can get more of Edward, Bella and all of the characters that Stephenie Meyer has created. We are able to pursue an aggressive time frame as we have the luxury of only adapting the novels into screenplays as opposed to having to create a storyline from scratch."

The movie is still going strong as the director and cast promote it overseas; it came in second this weekend with $13.2 million, grossing a total $138.6 million.

Based on the hit novel series by Stephenie Meyer, the first TWILIGHT was directed by Catherine Hardwicke and stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Nikki Reed, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Jackson Rathbone, Edi Gathegi, Rachelle Lefevre, Ashley Greene, Billy Burke, Nikki Reed, Cam Cigandet, Kellan Lutz, Anna Kendrick and Taylor Lautner.

Will Smith Talks I AM LEGEND Prequel!

It's been a few months since the announcement was made for an I AM LEGEND prequel. Will Smith recently chatted with Collider and gave us a tease of what we might be able to expect in the proposed new film.

"We have a fantastic prequel idea…we’re still trying to work through a couple of bumps in the story. It’s essentially the fall of the last city – the last stand of Manhattan. The movie would be…within the body of the movie D.C. and then Manhattan would fall as the last city. It’s a really cool idea trying to figure it out…there’s a reason why we have to take a small band and we have to get into D.C. So we have to make our way from New York to D.C. and then back to New York."

D.B. Weiss has been tapped to script the prequel, director Francis Lawrence is expected to return and Will Smith will reprise his role as Robert Nevelle. The original film is of course based on the classic Richard Matheson story. And ultimate DVD edition of I AM LEGEND hits store shelves tomorrow.

FEAST 3: THE HAPPY FINISH DVD Art & Date!

FEAST III: THE HAPPY FINISH, the last installment in the FEAST trilogy will hit DVD on February 17th, 2009 courtesy of Dimension Extreme. The cover art was recently revealed over on the DVD's Amazon listing. (See below!) While the disc's special features have yet to be announced, the movie will be presented in Widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.

Picking up moments after the end of FEAST II, the survivors are saved by the mysterious prophet, Shot Bus Gus, who seemingly has the ability to control the beasts. He leads them into the sewers as they travel to the big city. Along the way they get help from karate expert Jean-Claude Seagal and learn that the beasts originate from a place called "The Hive." Armed with this knowledge, they decide to fight back and destroy the beasts once and for all.

FEAST 3: THE HAPPY FINISH was once again directed by John Gulager from a script by Marcus Dunstan & Patrick Melton (SAW IV, SAW V, SAW VI) and stars Jenny Wade, Clu Gulager, Diane Goldner, Craig Henningsen and Martin Klebba.

Now, besides being a huge horror fanatic, I've also always been a huge comic book fan. In particular, I love the over-the-top crazy work of writer Garth Ennis. Hence I've always longed for a proper PUNISHER movie that captured his take on the character. Early word is that PUNISHER: WAR ZONE isn't exactly a good movie, but it's definitely a gory good time. (As you can see for yourself below!)

So this weekend, I'm going to watch the big guy with the skull embol kill and punish criminals in the most violent and creative of ways. Watch this redband trailer and tell me that doesn't look like a ridiculously good time?

(My favorite moment is at the 50 second mark when The Punisher punches a guy so hard, his face caves in. Crazed!)

PUNISHER: WAR ZONE was directed by Lexi Alexander and stars Ray Stevenson, Dominic West, Doug Hutchison, (fan fave) Julie Benz (SAW V, DEXTER, RAMBO, the upcoming BOONDOCK SAINTS 2), Dash Mihok and Wayne Knight. It's in theaters today!

Carpenter's THEY LIVE Next To Be Remade!

Yep, you read that right. Universal and studio-based Strike Entertainment are in negotiations with Les Mougins to secure the rights to remake John Carpenter's THEY LIVE, so says The Hollywood Reporter. The article continues, "The original film, part sci-fi thriller and part social satire, told the story of a down-on-his-luck construction worker (Roddy Piper) who discovers glasses that let him see aliens walking among us and controlling humanity. The man races against the clock to find a way to stop them. The movie is known for a fight scene (Roddy vs Keith David!) that lasts 5 1/2 minutes and for the line, 'I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.'"

Read more details at the original article HERE.

THE ALPHABET KILLER On DVD January 6th, 2009! Specs Announced!

Anchor Bay Entertainment sent over the press release and specs for THE ALPHABET KILLER which will street on January 6th, 2009. Read all the details below!

THE ALPHABET KILLER, the eagerly anticipated thriller from director Rob Schmidt (Wrong Turn, “Masters of Horror: Right To Die”) and featuring an all-star cast including Eliza Dushku (the upcoming Fox series “Dollhouse,” Wrong Turn, Bring It On), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Saw), and Oscar®-winner Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People, Sunshine State) arrives January 6, 2009 on DVD and will contain the following:

- Audio commentary with Producer Isen Robbins and Director Rob Schmidt;
- Audio commentary with Writer/Producer/Actor Tom Malloy;
- Featurette: A to Z: The Making of The Alphabet Killer;
- “First Victim” – Alternate Scene

Written by Tom Malloy (The Attic), who also co-stars, The Alphabet Killer is a gripping psychological thriller loosely based on the still-unsolved “double initial” murders that shocked the citizens of Rochester , New York in the early 1970s.

From 1970 to 1973, three girls in and around Rochester, New York were brutally raped and strangled, their bodies dumped in neighboring villages that bore the same first initial as their names. All three victims’ – young girls, aged 10 to 12 -- first and last names also had matching initials. Despite questioning more than 800 suspects and the combined police resources of several communities, the case remains unsolved to this day.

In the film, Dushku plays Megan Paige, a Rochester , NY police investigator whose commitment to the job borders on obsession. Megan and her partner Lt. Kenneth Shine (Cary Elwes) are assigned to investigate the brutal murder of a young girl named Carla Castillo, whose body is found in the nearby town of Churchville . Despite Megan’s considerable efforts, her inability to catch the killer leads to a nervous breakdown, eventually causing her to lose her fiancée, her law-enforcement career – and her grip on reality.

Two years later, Megan is back at the police department, albeit in a demoted position. With the help of a mental illness support group headed by Richard Ledge (Timothy Hutton), Megan is slowly getting her life back on track. But when two more young girls are murdered with the “alphabet” m.o., Megan is convinced the same serial killer has resurfaced. Fighting hallucinations of the dead girls – as well as distrust from her colleagues – Megan is back on the case, determined to bring the culprit to justice. With few leads, no suspects and a serial killer on the loose, can she catch the “Alphabet Killer” before another victim is found?

The stellar supporting cast includes Michael Ironside (Total Recall, Top Gun, 2009’s Terminator: Salvation), Melissa Leo (Frozen River, Righteous Kill), Carl Lumbly (Men of Honor, “Alias”), Jack McGee (21, Crash, L.A. Confidential) , Larry Hankin (Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Home Alone) and Tom Noonan (Last Action Hero, Manhunter, The Monster Squad).

George Romero Presents DEADTIME STORIES 2?

Even though the anthology film GEORGE A. ROMERO PRESENTS DEADTIME STORIES has yet to come out, apparently portions of the sequel have already started shooting according to The Valley Independent. The article explains, ""Deadtime Stories" is a trilogy of films by Romero, the filmmaker who wrote and directed "Night of the Living Dead" and sequels that grew from the ghoulish flick. Jeff Monahan is one of three directors for "Deadtime Stories 2." The film comprises three scary shorts. The style is similar to the format of the old "Night Gallery" and "Twilight Zone" series. Each movie features Romero, sitting in an armchair with a large book, getting ready to tell his scary tales."

Monahan tells the publication that DEADTIME STORIES 2 should be released in November 2009, and  the plan is to shoot the 3rd movie in the anthology series in the Summer of 09. The movies are being produced through Monahan's 72nd Street Films, along with Romero, Christine Romero and 555 Films.

Hell, I was just rewatching TALES FROM THE DARK SIDE: THE MOVIE the other day, which I love, so I'm always game for a Romero produced anthology film!

Here's the trailer for the first DEADTIME STORIES:

SCREAMERS 2: THE HUNTING Trailer!

Whoa. So Sony Home Entertainment made a sequel to the 1995 Sci-Fi/Horror SCREAMERS? Apparently so! No, Peter Weller's not in this one, but it does have Lance Henriksen! And no it's not called SCREAMERS 2, they're going by the title SCREAMERS: THE HUNTING! Regardless, here's the synopsis and trailer below!

Is ROB ZOMBIE Back For HALLOWEEN 2?!

This should be considered rumor until it's officially confirmed, but Shock Till You Drop got a tip from a reliable source that Rob Zombie is being courted back to write and direct HALLOWEEN 2. Earlier this year, INSIDE directors Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury were in talks to direct the sequel to ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN. Then at last months 30 YEARS OF TERROR convention, producer Malek Akkad said pre-production was slated to begin in January 2009 with a March 2009 start date for shooting. Tyler Mane was always signed to reprise the role of Michael Myers, but a writer/director hadn't been locked as of the convention.

Shock reports, "An insider phoned in this afternoon exclusively informing ShockTillYouDrop.com that Rob Zombie is going to reprise his duties as director and carry on the new Myers legacy that he forged with Tyler Mane behind the mask."

If true, this puts Rob Zombie's TYRANNOSAURUS REX on hold until after HALLOWEEN 2.

Parties from Akkad and Zombie's camps are all keeping quiet. But we'll let you know as soon as we hear something concrete!

Felissa Rose Talks SILENT NIGHT, ZOMBIE NIGHT!

Production is about to begin shortly on SILENT NIGHT, ZOMBIE NIGHT, the second feature from writer/director Sean Cain (NAKED BENEATH THE SURFACE). A co-production of his Velvet Hammer Films and ArsonCuff Entertainment, the title pretty much gives you a good idea of the 2 horror sub-genres the flick plans on combining.

He explained the premise to FANGORIA shortly after the film’s announcement. "The plot is a little like a love triangle between three friends," Cain told FANGORIA. "Frank Talbot and Nash Jackson have been partners on the LAPD for many years—almost the same amount of time that Frank has been married to his wife, Sarah. However, on the day an undead plague breaks out, Frank takes an injured Nash back to the younger man's apartment and finds his wife there with a packed bag. Because of the zombies, they are trapped inside and having to deal with the fact that both men love the same woman."

Of note for genre fans is the cast of SILENT NIGHT, ZOMBIE NIGHT, which features Lew Temple (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN), Felissa Rose (SLEEPAWAY CAMP) and Vernon Wells (THE ROAD WARRIOR, WEIRD SCIENCE).

ICONS recently got the chance to speak with Felissa Rose and ask her about her participation in the film. The actress tells us she already had a friendship with filmmaker Cain before being cast in SILENT NIGHT, ZOMBIE NIGHT. "I love Sean. Sean and I met a while back when I did a cameo on EVIL EVER AFTER and we just clicked. One of those times when you just like someone and you say, "Hey, let's work together!" He was kind enough to think of me when he was casting for this so I really got lucky. I am familiar with his work and I think he's a very talented person. This film will prove that. He's incredibly ambitious and smart. And it really moves when it needs to and has a love triangle that's unique, so I'm diggin it!"

So what role does Felissa play in this story? "I play a woman named Elsa Lansing. She's very strong, sort of a badass. I am a survivor walking the streets and try to come to the rescue of the others with my partner played by Vernon Wells. We come in in really cool gear, and try to access the situation."

One of the interesting hideout spots that Felissa and Vernon's characters attempt to bring people to is Burbank airport, a unique setting with lots of space to keep an eye on incoming ghouls! So, do they plan on actually shooting at Burbank airport, or perhaps a soundstage? "We're on location but it will just be set up to look like the area. Pretty much shooting in one place," Ross tell us. "I love that. Not a lot of running around." She also expressed excitement in working for the first time with fellow genre vets Temple and Wells.

Considering SILENT NIGHT, ZOMBIE NIGHT combines holiday themed horrors with the living dead, we just had to ask Felissa her favorite movies in both sub-genres. "Well, BLACK CHRISTMAS is my fave horror/Christmas flick and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is a fave! I recently did a film called CHRISTMAS and I had a ball with that. Nothing like fear amongst the holidays, and killings and gore!"

Last month, the long delayed RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP was finally released on DVD courtesy of Magnolia Pictures. So, we asked Felissa how she felt now that the film she shot 5 years ago is finally available to the fans. "I am happy that no one will ask me again when will it come out! Haha. Yes, I'm relieved it's out. I hear that there will also be a directors cut. It's strange seeing something you've done so long ago finally hit the streets. I know people had certain expectations about it but it's another, campy SLEEPAWAY CAMP movie."

RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP holds a lot of personal significance for Rose. It was the first time where several members of the cast & crew, along with director Robert Hiltzik were all reunited 20 years after the original film to make a proper sequel. Felissa also met her husband, Deron Miller on the set. (The singer of CKY having been a huge SLEEPAWAY CAMP fan came to shoot a cameo.) We asked her in retrospect how she looks back at that shoot? "Wow! It was a great shoot. I had a blast. So many amazing friends came out of that film and I did meet Deron. We have two kids, three dogs, a cat, and life is fantastic! I'm thrilled I was a part of this movie and I hope we make another!"

Tommy Lee Wallace Directing HELLIVERSITY!

Last year during the FRIGHT NIGHT reunion panel at the Texas Fear Fest 2 convention, Tommy Lee Wallace mentioned that he was hoping to do 2 new projects, one titled HELLIVERSITY, the other called SCARY LAND. The Hollywood Reporter says today that, Wallace will shoot HELLIVERSITY in March of 2009!

The article continues, "The writer-director behind "Halloween III" and "Fright Night Part 2" is taking horror film fans back to school. Tommy Lee Wallace will helm "Helliversity," the first film in FarCor Studios and Indusa Global's new joint venture to produce low-budget indie features. FarCor co-president Dwayne Corbitt and Indusa president James Ram will lead the endeavor. In "Helliversity," a group of American exchange students is terrorized by a vengeful spirit while locked inside a high-security foreign university. A six-week shoot is set for March in Los Angeles and India. Steve Langford, a longtime writer-producer on ABC's "Family Matters," co-scripted with Wallace."

On top of FRIGHT NIGHT 2 and HALLOWEEN 3: SEASON OF THE WITCH, Wallace also directed VAMPIRES: LOS MUERTOS, the sequel to John Carpenter's VAMPIRES, as well as one of my personal favorites STEPHEN KING'S IT! We're looking forward to this new flick!

One of the most anticipated genre movie releases of the year is My Name Is Bruce, starring the cult hero (or is that antihero?) Bruce Campbell. Campbell is abducted from his trailer-park home to fight against Guan Di, a Chinese war deity. Thinking it all a joke, although thinking clearly is not one of his strong suits in this picture, Mr. Campbell discovers that it all is real, much to his shock and dismay. Mayhem ensues.

The fully articulated doll is formed from a 3-D scan of Campbell himself. Besides a custom fabric miniature version of his actual Hawaiian shirt, which was loaned to us by Mr. Campbell, proving that he's the kind of partner who would "give you the shirt off his back," an array of movie-specific accessories are included.

- Two of these are miniature "angel" and "devil" versions of Mr. Campbell. They attach to his shoulders using hidden magnets. Additionally, we have:
- Shemps Olde Tyme Whiskey
- A Bruce collectible toy in melted package
- Refreshing Lemon Drink bottle
- A miniature Chins book
- A big honkin' gun with price tag still attached

Puzzled? You won't be once you have seen the movie.

TWILIGHT Sequel NEW MOON Starts Shooting In March 09?

TWILIGHT star Kristen Stewart recently chatted with Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM show and let the word out that shooting for the sequel NEW MOON should begin in March of 2009. She told the host, "A lot of the book takes place in Italy, and I think we're going to get to go to Italy, which is so cool. For a while there, they were like, Oh, we don't know if we have the money, but now I think we may have the money!" She's of course referring to the huge success of the first TWILIGHT film last weekend. Listen to more of the interview HERE!

Meanwhile, director Catherine Hardwicke had a bit to say about the new film to MTV. "It's got werewolves, it's got visual effects that turn people into werewolves, it's got motorcycle stunts, you go to Italy. It's probably twice as much as this film." Read more, including Robert Pattinson's thoughts on NEW MOON on MTV's site right HERE!
