Ron Perlman As ELVIS In BUBBA NOSFERATU?!

Ain't It Cool News just broke an interesting scoop that we definitely didn't see coming! Quint just posted an interview with Paul Giamatti, who has been long-rumored to play the part of Col. Parker in the BUBBA HO-TEP sequel. Now, Giamatti confirms that he's producing the sequel BUBBA NOSFERATU with Don Coscarelli returning to the director's chair and that a new Elvis may have been found! It's non other then HELLBOY himself, Ron Perlman!

Giamatti told Ain't It Cool, "I saw BUBBA HO-TEP when it came out and I used to say in interviews when people asked me which director I wanted to work with I would say "Don Coscarelli." BUBBA HO-TEP is one of my favorite movies. I loved it and then somebody finally showed him some interview in which I said that and he called me up. I told him, "I have a little production company and we can help you guys do this" and he brought me onboard and now we have got Ron Perlman interested in playing Elvis."

Why Perlman? "He’s a great guy. He’s an amazingly great guy and I’ve always loved him as an actor, so when he actually was interested, I couldn’t believe our luck man! I’ve never been so excited about doing something and being able to throw… trying to put my production company in on it, too. I mean I’ve never wanted to do something like this before, but I like this thing so much that I really want to see it get done."

Giamatti also revealed a little bit about what we can expect in BUBBA NOSFERATU. He tells Quint, "I’ll be playing Col. Parker, who… You know part of the great thing about this is not only are these wonderful genre movies, but he’s actually taking a weird, interesting take on the whole Elvis myth and kind of investigating the whole Elvis myth in a really interesting way, so it’s got a lot of stuff about Col. Parker being responsible for a lot of what happened to Elvis and kind of literally making him a vampire in some ways, you know? A kind of a blood sucker… It plays on a lot of things, this movie, in a great way and it’s got Sitting Bull in it and there’s a peyote trip in it that is amazing and it’s just a big leap beyond the other movie. It’s ten times more insane and bizarre and it’s great and hilarious, too. It’s funnier than the other one is even. It still ends up being this great character study of this Elvis guy."

There's a ton more in the full interview on Ain't It Cool's site right HERE!

We had actually just asked Bruce Campbell in our FRIGHT exclusive interview with him this month why he opted out of the sequel to BUBBA HO-TEP and he had the following to say. "Don and I could not agree on an approach and on the story. And the elements I disliked the most, he actually liked the most. So we realized that was a pretty big divide. And we didn’t want to jeopardize a friendship over this. Because, ya know… I don’t want to play that game of keeping him from making it. He can certainly make it. It’s his to do. If he wants to make 10 of these, go baby, go. But for me, I have to know why I’m on that set, and I have to know why I’m there. And I have to enjoy being there."

MARTYRS Director Attached To HELLRAISER Remake!

Filmmaker Pascal Laugier (MARTYRS) is in final negotiations to write & direct the new HELLRAISER according to The Hollywood Reporter. Released in 1987, (and written & directed by Clive Barker) "HELLRAISER" told the story of an unfaithful wife who attempts to assist her dead lover in his escape from hell. The movie introduced viewers to a race of demons called Cenobites, most notably one nicknamed Pinhead -- who became one of the most enduring horror characters of the decade -- who was summoned using an antique puzzle box.

The article continues, Dimension has been hoping to relaunch the franchise for the past couple of years, first hiring Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (INSIDE) to write and direct a remake then tapping Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (FEAST 1, 2, SAW IV, SAW V) to write a new draft.

"This is a dream project for me," Laugier said. "I know Clive Barker's work very well, and I would never betray what he has done. Fans are expecting a definitive 'Hellraiser,' and I don't want to take that away from them."

QUARANTINE Director Helming M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN'S DEVIL!

"M. Night Shyamalan and Media Rights Capital have formalized the first project in their three-picture deal to hatch fright films," according to Variety. The article continues, "Brian Nelson ("30 Days of Night") is set to write the first project, "DEVIL" which "QUARANTINE" helmer John Erick Dowdle will direct and produce with his brother, Drew Dowdle. The supernatural thriller is based on an original story by Shyamalan, who'll produce with Sam Mercer under the Night Chronicles banner. The Dowdle siblings will be executive producers. The PG-13 film will begin production next year. MRC set the Night Chronicles as a financing and production partnership with Shyamalan in July. The company's goal is to generate one genre film per year over three years, with Shyamalan hatching the ideas and overseeing the selection of talent and the creative direction. Shyamalan will co-own the film copyrights and retain artistic control while MRC makes distribution deals, as it does on all the pictures it finances." More on the original Variety post HERE!

UPDATE: MASTERS OF ITALIAN HORROR!

Back in July, we posted a story from the Fangoria Weekend Of Horror convention in NJ about filmmaker Lamberto Bava and his proposed 4-picture MASTERS OF ITALIAN HORROR. (See that original story HERE) Today, FANGORIA checked in with the director and he confirmed several new details about the upcoming exciting series of movies.

"My film is called ROOM 213. It’s all about a crime that has happened under strange circumstances, although it is not very violent. I intend to create tension and suspense with this movie, because I like it when horror is psychological—when it is all in your mind." He continues, "The title of Ruggero Deodato’s episode is NATAS—Satan spelled backwards. His film is very fantastic, very unreal. Sergio Stivaletti is doing an episode called THE BUILDING, which is a mystery-suspense story: ‘What happened in the building?’ And the fourth will be directed by the Manetti Brothers, who are young but very good. This will be based on an H.P. Lovecraft story."

The article states that the production start date is summer of 2009. For more details and quotes from Bava, check FANGORIA's original article HERE!

MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D Trailer!

Hot on the heels of the new theatrical poster, Lionsgate has provided ICONS OF FRIGHT with the first trailer to MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D and you can watch it below! The remake hits theaters January 16th, 2009!

Based on the 1981 cult horror, My Bloody Valentine 3D, directed by Patrick Lussier, tells a tale of Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), a man who caused an accident in a coal mine in the town of Harmony, killing five men and putting one into a coma. That man, Harry Warden, wakes from his coma one year on with his mind set on revenge. Somewhat overzealous in his definition of revenge, he brutally murders 22 people before being killed himself.

Ten years on, Hanniger returns to Harmony hoping to make up for his past. His ex-girlfriend, Sarah (Jaime King), has married his former best friend (Kerr Smith). But that's really the least of his worries, since a killer wearing a miner's mask and armed with a pick axe has started, well, picking off the townsfolk. Is it Harry Warden back for revenge? We don't know! We just don't know! Run!

MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D
was directed by Patrick Lussier (DRACULA 2000) from a script by Todd Farmer (JASON X) & Zane Smith and stars SUPERNATURAL's Jensen Ackles, Jaime King (THE TRIPPER), Kerr Smith (FINAL DESTINATION), Edi Gathegi, Kevin Tighe & Megan Boone.

Clive Barker's THE MADONNA Next BOOKS OF BLOOD Adaptation!

While on the set of the currently lensing DREAD, Shock Till You Drop's Ryan Rotten uncovered what the next Clive Barker adaptation will be from his legendary BOOKS OF BLOOD collection. Producer Jorge Saralegui told the site that THE MADONNA would be the next film they make, followed immediately by PIG BLOOD BLUES.

"We were looking for something to do between Dread and Pig Blood Blues. Our other projects that we have in development were not quite ready," explains Saralegui. Co-producer Joe Daley added "It's such an interesting story. The Madonna is this creature that lives in this abandoned bath house. The men that enter this cavern are slowly turned into women. You deal with such horrific fears these men share in the presence of the Madonna, in her lair, with these women that live in this place. It's a total taboo."

DEXTER Renewed For 2 More Seasons!

Showtime has renewed their hit series DEXTER for 2 more seasons according to The Hollywood Reporter. "The premium cable network has ordered 12 episodes each for Seasons 4 and 5, with the fourth season set to go into production in the spring in Los Angeles," the article says. "Dexter," which stars Michael C. Hall as a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department who moonlights as a serial killer, was nominated for five Emmys this year, including best drama series and best lead actor in a drama. The show also received a 2008 Peabody Award.

Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt credited the cast, producing team and Jeff Lindsay, author of the books on which "Dexter" is based, for the show's success.

"I thought at best we would attract a devoted cult audience but soon realized that, ironically, this show is so thematically rich and layered with humanity that audiences of all kinds have flocked to it," he said.

DEXTER airs on Showtime Sunday night's at 9pm and is currently in it's 3rd season. Season's 1 & 2 are now available on DVD.

DEXTER
stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Jimmy Smits, Julie Benz, James Remar, David Zayas, Lauren Vélez and C.S. Lee.

Bruce Campbell Discusses The Future Of THE EVIL DEAD Franchise!

If you want to immediately get ripped in front of a live audience by actor Bruce Campbell, just try asking him, "Are you going to make an EVIL DEAD 4?" and see what happens! We went out of our way to avoid that question when we spoke to him last week, but... he brought it up himself!

"Here’s a quick run down of all the EVIL DEAD stuff, because I know it keeps coming back, like a bad check", Bruce tells us. "When Sam is ready to do it, we’ll all just check our schedules. He got involved in this massive (SPIDER-MAN) franchise and it seems like its still continuing. So who knows? Who knows when the hell anyone will be able to get into another EVIL DEAD. But I think we both desire to do it. It’s just really scheduling more then anything."

Well, what about the much-talked about remake version? "As far as a remake goes, there’s nothing for me in the remake, so I wouldn’t really be involved other then being a producer, because… what am I? The old guy at the bait shop? “Hey kids! You be careful! That place is haunted!” “Oh shut up, old man!” Ya know? And they drive off into the woods."

It was recently announced that the producers of EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL were looking into making a feature-version of their classic stage show (and in 3D!) pending they can resolve rights issues. Campbell is fairly confident that we'll see EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL on the big screen. "We didn’t discourage it. They were pursuing to do that… I think it’s an issue of... Look, if there was already a play of it, as long as you just kind of document it and you could show that in movie theaters as a midnight thing, then it’s its own beast. Because it’s already so different. I don’t think there will be any issues, but we’ll see what happens."

And speaking of EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL, Bruce couldn't help but give props to Ryan Ward, the actor that portrays Ash in the original Toronto show (and in last years New York performances). "He’s terrific, and that kid has worked harder then I ever did on the original movies," laughs Campbell. "Because he’s got to go through the whole experience every freakin’ night. And sometimes even matinees! He’s got the hardest gig in show business! He’s done a really, really good job and he’s a sweet kid, and I hope he goes far. Now the gag is in his life. People will go up to him and be like, “Oh, you played Ash!”"

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN Director Talks Remake!

Icons Of Fright were recently invited to sit down with several other journalists and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (Låt den rätte komma in) director Tomas Alfredson for a round table interview. Among one of the many subjects to come up is the recently announced American remake of his classic film.

"I’m not involved at all," he told us. When asked if he was unhappy with the idea of someone else remaking his film for American audiences (when the original has yet to come out theatrically), he told us, "It gives you some sort of feelings of jealousy, of course. I have been dancing with this material for 3 years, and now somebody else is doing it. But, you have to put that aside and just wait and see what they come up with. And maybe they’ll find other things in that book that could be interesting. It would be very sad if they made a copy of this."

Once such thing that was excised from the novel for the movie adaptation was the nature of the relationship between Eli and her "blood supplier" Håkan. "We had to make some big choices of things we had to cut out", he tells ICONS. "The biggest thing that we left out that the character Håkan, the older “blood” supplier for Eli, he was an outspoken pedophile in the novel. So that really gave another tone to the whole thing. That’s too often used as say… an emotional special effect, without taking responsibility for what that really is. It’s a really complicated thing to debate on screen, I think. So that would’ve disturbed the story a lot to have that."

I asked Tomas if he'd be receptive if the producers of the remake or director Matt Reeves approached him for his thoughts or advice. He simply answered, "No."

Look for our entire round table interview with Tomas Alfredson later this week!

Don't forget to check out our FIRST LOOK REVIEW of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN HERE or by clicking the image below! Steve Niles FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND Has A Director!

I always joked with writer Steve Niles that one day, I'd like to direct an adaptation of his comic book FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND. It's my all-time favorite story from the creator of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. But alas, a director that has been tapped for the film version and I reluctantly approve.

The Hollywood Reporter says that David Gordon Green (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, SNOW ANGELS) will direct FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND for Overture Films. The script was adapted from Niles graphic novel by screenwriters Peter Sattler and Geoff Davey. Green and Dark Horse Entertainment president Mike Richardson are producing. Niles, who also wrote "30 Days of Night," is executive producing. Illustrated by Greg Ruth, Niles' six-part 2004 series about the horrible secret of a rural Middle American town involves Trevor Owen's attempts to protect his "monster" of a 6-year-old younger brother and Gristlewood Valley's other "freaks" from their parents' worst instincts.

Overture is on a role with interesting horror projects. Also on their slate are remakes of George A. Romero's THE CRAZIES (being helmed by Breck Eisner) and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (directed by CLOVERFIELD director Matt Reeves). If you haven't read FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND, search out the graphic novel!

No word on Green's proposed SUSPERIA remake, but we'll keep you posted!

Roseblood/Twisted Pictures Reviving RKO Horror Pics!

Variety reports that Andy Fickman has made a deal with Roseblood Movie Company and Twisted Pictures to godfather four remakes from RKO’s horror heyday, including three that were produced by horrormeister Val Lewton. Fickman will direct at least one of the films.

Roseblood is the horror/thriller division of RKO Pictures, and Twisted is the horror division of Evolution Entertainment, financiers and producers of the “SAW” series. The companies will co-finance the films.

The remake properties are the Jacques Tourneur-directed “I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE” (1943); the Robert Wise-directed Bela Lugosi-Boris Karloff starrer “THE BODY SNATCHER” (1945); the Mark Robson-directed Karloff starrer “BEDLAM” (1946); and the John Farrow-directed Lucille Ball-John Carradine starrer “FIVE CAME BACK” (1939).

The first three pics were produced by Lewton when he ran the horror division of the original RKO. Lewton co-wrote both “Bedlam” and “The Body Snatcher” under the pseudonym Carlos Keith.

RKO chairman Ted Hartley is producing the remakes with Twisted’s Mark Burg, Oren Koules and Carl Mazzocone. Jonathan Marshall is executive producer.

Quotes from the Variety piece:

Andy Fickman: “After Frankenstein and the Wolfman came Lewton and RKO, and what they lacked in budgets they made up for with atmosphere, imagination and great directors making horror with psychological flair. It was on the heels of WWII, when Nazi Germany showed that the scariest enemy might be the person who looked like your next door neighbor. It didn’t have to be some creature.”

RKO’s Hartley: “I have never met a filmmaker who has the level of appreciation and passion for films that Andy has for Lewton’s incredible creations.”

Chuck Palahniuk's HAUNTED Being Adapted Into "New School" Film!

Variety reports that New School Media, a production & management company launched by Former ICM lit agent Brian Levy will adapt a movie version of Chuck Palahniuk's novel HAUNTED. Koen Mortier (EX-DRUMMER) will adapt and direct.

The article continues, "Haunted" revolves around a group of characters who answer an ad for a writers retreat and unwittingly end up competing in a "Survivor"-like scenario, where the host withholds heat, power and food. As the storytellers grow more desperate they ruthlessly plot to make themselves the hero of the reality show or film that they expect will be made from their plight.

Palahniuk, author of nine novels, is popular with Hollywood filmmakers. His books "Fight Club" and "Choke" have been made into films, while "Invisible Monsters" and "Survivor" are in development.

Mortier, who also works as a commercial director, made his directorial debut with "Ex-Drummer," which premiered at last year's Toronto Film Festival."

Relativity Media Acquiring Rogue Pictures?

The Hollywood Reporter says that Relativity Media is in negotiations with Universal to acquire Rogue Pictures, the studio's genre label. The article states that "The proposed deal would see Ryan Kavanaugh's Relativity purchase more than 25 library titles, four upcoming films and more than 30 projects in development at Rogue, which was launched in 2004 as a division of Universal's Focus Features."

This would include FIGHTING (with Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard), Platinum Dunes THE UNBORN (from David Goyer & starring Gary Oldman), Wes Craven's 25/8 and LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake. Let's not forget everything on Rogue's development slate including THE STRANGERS 2, a remake of 80's teen comedy THREE O'CLOCK HIGH (No!), CASTLEVANIA and HACK/SLASH (based on the comic book). COLOUR FROM THE DARK Screening In NY THIS SUNDAY!

FRIGHT friend Debbie Rochon alerted us to a screening this Sunday night, October 19th of her latest film COLOUR FROM THE DARK at the Two Boots Pioneer Theater. Rochon will be in attendance along with director Ivan Zuccon and star Michael Segal (flying all the way in from Italy!) Based on an H.P. Lovecraft story, this will mark the film's first screening in America! Visit the Two Boots site for more details HERE! And purchase tickets for Sunday night's screening HERE!

From the imagination of H.P. Lovecraft and the vision of director Ivan Zuccon comes a new tale of cinematic terror. Based on the classic story "The Colour Out of Space", COLOUR FROM THE DARK is the follow-up to Ivan's forthcoming film, NYMPHA.

The 1940's, and World War II is raging. Pietro (Michael Segal) and Lucia (Debbie Rochon) live on an isolated farm with Alice, Lucia's younger sister (Marysia Kay). Alice is a 15 year old who suffers from severe mental problems. Poor farmers, they live tilling the soil. Pietro is a good worker and a strong man who, unlike his three brothers, is not at war because of a deformed knee.

Lucia is a beautiful and reserved woman dedicated to her family. Their life is peaceful and good, in spite of the hard work. One day, while drawing water from the well, Pietro and Alice produce a casual and apparently insignificant incident, which frees something from Earth's womb. A strange and alien colour flashes underwater, at the well's bottom, then disappears. From that moment on, inexplicable events start happening all around the farm, and by night the surrounding vegetation glitters with a sinister glow.

The colour soon takes hold of the whole farm, and dwelling inside Pietro and his family's minds, it brings them into its sick world of pain, blood and death...

A NIGHT OF JOE R . LANSDALE This FRI-SAT In Long Island, NY!

BellMojo Productions proudly presents Joe R. Lansdale's BY BIZARRE HANDS Live!! That's right; the World Premiere of Joe's one-act play, BY BIZARRE HANDS, is coming to the New York stage, and Joe will be in town for both performances. Joe has been called "an immense talent" by Booklist; "a born storyteller" by Robert Bloch, author of PSYCHO; and The New York Times Book Review declares he has "a folklorist's eye for telling detail and a front-porch raconteur's sense of pace." He's won umpty-ump awards, including seven Bram Stoker horror awards, the Edgar, the Grinzani Prize and 2 New York Times Notable Book awards. In 2004, genre movie legend Bruce Campbell portrayed the invalid Elvis Presley opposite equally legendary character actor Ossie Davis as JFK in Don Coscarelli's adaption of Joe's short-story BUBBA HOTEP. Coscarelli once again dipped into the Lansdale well when he filmed INCIDENT ON AND OFF A MOUNTAIN ROAD in 2005 for Showtime's Emmy award winning series MASTERS OF HORROR.

We're very happy to have Damian Maffei as the show's narrator, fresh off wrapping the supernatural abandoned amusement park thrill-o-rama Closed for the Season, and lead of the upcoming Spike Lee produced Livemansion, and the wild west werewolf romp Savage Frontier. Also on the program is a spoken-word performance of his hilariously classic coming-of-age short-story BOB THE DINOSAUR GOES TO DISNEYLAND, an original Rockabilly musical tribute to the one and only Master of Mojo, and Mike Salva's award-winning animated short MAX THE HERO written and performed by Mystery Science Theater 3000's own Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett,.

No Mrs. Voorhees In The FRIDAY THE 13TH Remake?!

There was recently a secret "test screening" of Platinum Dunes FRIDAY THE 13TH remake in Long Beach, CA and a poster on the FRIDAY THE 13TH COMMUNITY boards revealed some surprising news. Apparently Mrs. Voorhess (played by DEEP SPACE NINE's Nana Visitor) is no where to be found in the movie. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that young Jason Voorhees (played by Caleb Guss) is also absent from the current cut of the film. So did the filmmakers decide to bypass Jason's backstory in the new film? Or is it simply told by the characters, camp-fire style? Keep in mind the film is months away from release and these scenes may be re-instated. If not, we can rest assured they'll inevitably end up on the DVD release.

The new FRIDAY THE 13TH directed by Marcus Nispel and written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift (FREDDY VS JASON) was produced by Platinum Dunes Andrew Form and Brad Fuller and stars Jared Padalecki (SUPERNATURAL), Derek Mears (HILLS HAVE EYES 2), Amanda Righetti, Danielle Panabaker, Travis Van Winkle, Aaron Yoo, Adam Finberg, Nick Mennell (ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN), Jonathan Sadowski, Nana Visitor, Arlen Escarpeta, Ryan Hansen, Richard Burgi, Julianna Guill and Willa Ford. It hits theaters Friday, February 13th, 2009!

HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION DVD Coming December 30th!

Anchor Bay Entertainment has set December 30th as the release date for a brand new Special Edition release of HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER 2! Below is the official press release and a look at the DVD cover art! This December, ring in the holidays with Pinhead!

Anchor Bay Entertainment “has such things to show you …”

HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II - 20th Anniversary Edition DVD

BURBANK , CA -- Released the week of Christmas in 1988 – which aroused some controversy among more genteel moviegoers -- Hellbound: Hellraiser II was that rare sequel that was considered to be superior to the original film. It was hailed by many Hellraiser fans as bigger and better, and its success undoubtedly paved the way for a legendary horror franchise that now includes a total of 8 feature films, with a proposed remake on tap for 2009.

On December 30th, Anchor Bay Entertainment, the industry leader in horror home entertainment, will re-release this unforgettable horror classic on its 20th anniversary, and in grand (guignol) style with the Hellbound: Hellraiser II 20th Anniversary Edition. A true “shocking stuffer” for the holiday season, this eye-popping, head-rolling special edition comes complete with a wide variety of DVD extras and special features that will make any horror fan scream with glee. SRP is $19.97.

The initial run of this highly-anticipated special-edition DVD will include an official reproduction of the film’s original theatrical poster, and a phenomenally fearful selection of DVD extras including three brand new featurettes detailing the making of this horror classic: “The Soul Patrol,” which features all-new interviews with the film’s terrifying trio of Cenobites (Simon Bamford, Nicholas Vince and Barbie Wilde); “Outside the Box,” an exclusive in-depth interview with director Tony Randel about his early career and how Hellbound: Hellraiser II shaped his creative future; and “The Doctor Is In,” an all-new interview with internationally acclaimed actor Kenneth Cranham on his experiences playing the devious and diabolical Dr. Channard.

Another featurette, “Lost in the Labyrinth,” was produced by Clive Barker himself, the mastermind behind Hellraiser who served as the story writer and executive producer of Hellbound: Hellraiser II. In addition, there are vintage on-set interviews with the cast, crew and Barker, and an exclusive audio commentary featuring director Anthony Randel, screenwriter Peter Atkins and legendary “scream queen” Ashley Laurence.

Set shortly after the dire events depicted in Hellraiser, the film follows Kirsty Cotton (Laurence; Lightning Bug, Lurking Fear) as she is sent to a psychiatric hospital run by the mysterious Dr. Channard (Kenneth Cranham; Gangster No. 1, Hot Fuzz, HBO’s “Rome”).

Kirsty continually experiences hellish visions of her stepmother Julia (Tony Award nominee Clare Higgins; Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont, The Golden Compass) and her uncle Frank (Sean Chapman; Gangster No. 1, A Mighty Heart), both of whom met with violent fates at the hands of the Cenobites and their leader, Pinhead (Doug Bradley; Nightbreed, the entire Hellraiser canon). Unbeknownst to Kirsty, however, Dr. Channard is himself a devotee of the black arts, and that he will once again unleash the deadly Cenobites upon an unsuspecting world.

The horrors of Hellraiser have only just begun!

In addition to the encore performances of Bradley, Laurence, Higgins and Chapman, all of whom appeared in the first film, Hellbound: Hellraiser II also stars William Hope (ALIENS, Shining Through, XXX) and Imogen Boorman (Dreamchild, British TV’s long-running “Coronation Street”).

The film received a Saturn Award for Christopher Young’s score and nominations for Best Horror Film and Best Supporting Actress (Higgins). The film also received a nomination for the International Fantasy Film Award from the prestigious Fantasporto Festival.

Variety called Hellbound: Hellraiser II “a campy, gore-soaked horror tale with technically first-rate effects … a maggoty carnival of mayhem, mutation and dismemberment.” “There are enough bizarre and shocking effects here to satisfy all but the most demanding genre fans,” added Richard Harrington of The Washington Post.

Bonus features:

- Audio commentary with director Tony Randel, screenwriter Peter Atkins and actor Ashley Laurence
- Theatrical Trailers (4) and TV Spots (2)
- “The Soul Patrol” featurette – NEW interviews with Cenobite actors
- “Outside the Box” featurette – NEW interview with director Tony Randel
- “The Doctor is In” featurette – NEW interview with Kenneth Cranham
- “Under the Skin” featurette -- Doug Bradley on Hellbound: Hellraiser II
- “Lost in the Labyrinth” featurette
- On-set interview with Clive Barker
- On-set interviews with cast and crew
- Poster and stills gallery

ICONS REPORT: TRICK 'R TREAT - LET THE RIGHT ONE IN NY PREMIERE!

On October 13th, FANGORIA and the Two Boot Pioneer theatre hosting a FREE double-feature screening of quite possibly the 2 best genre films of this year. Michael Dougherty's long awaited (and delayed) TRICK 'R TREAT, and the Swedish vampire flick LET THE RIGHT ONE IN from filmmaker Tomas Alfredson. TRICK 'R TREAT was scheduled to begin at 7PM, and long lines could be seen forming outside the Pioneer Theatre as early as 5PM... (Con't)

The theater was filled to maximum capacity with some patrons watching the entire movie standing in the back, and a slew of other fans turned away at the door. Despite it all, the film played to an enthusiastic crowd & not one person left for the following Q & A session with Dougherty and the film's star Dylan Baker. It's safe to say that TRICK 'R TREAT is one of the greatest Halloween-themed horror movies ever made, and everyone lucky enough to be in attendance seemed to love it. (Our FIRST LOOK review will be up shortly!) Tony Timpone, editor-in-chief for FANGORIA magazine moderated the Q & A session... (Con't)

Dougherty explained the origins of the film. How it started out as several short film ideas and how he eventually melded them into the script for TRICK 'R TREAT. Of note is that Stan Winston was the first person to really support & get behind the script, and the two even came up with the original designs for "Sam". (Particularly the Sam face underneath the mask.)

Sadly Warner Brothers still has no immediate plans to release TRICK 'R TREAT theatrically, which is a terrible, terrible shame because it should be in theaters right now! This movie seriously got me so into the Halloween spirit and I can't imagine people not wanting to check this out in October. Not every one wants to see the SAW movies in October. The main reason for the delay is apparently not knowing exactly how to market it, (well, d'uh? Try releasing it on Halloween?) and that it's an anthology and rather dark. (Isn't horror supposed to be?) ... (Con't)

Dougherty also talked about being a fan of Dylan Baker's from HAPPINESS and how that performance convinced him that Baker would be perfect for the role of Steven the "Principle" (which of course he was). He also told the audience he'd love to tackle either a sequel and or prequel if this first film would ever get a release! ... (Con't)

As soon as the Q & A session was over, we had to exit the theater and get back on line again for LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. We were shocked to discover an even bigger line waiting for us outside! I asked the gentleman behind me where he heard about the screening and he said he just happened to walk by and saw it on the marquee. ... (Con't)

Once again, the theater was filled to the max with several patrons standing in the back the entire time. I had already seen the movie once (read FIRST LOOK REVIEW HERE!), but I was excited at the prospect of seeing it with an audience and on the big screen.

Fellow audience members will have to forgive me for the following - Having already seen the movie, I noticed at the 20 minute mark that the projectionist missed an entire reel and the movie jumped ahead by almost 20 minutes, leaving out tons of pivital plot points in the story. I immediately ran out to tell the theater programmer and they ended up stopping the film and putting on the appropriate reel. In typical New York fashion, once the 3rd reel repeated, the entire impatient audience was sighing aloud not having realized that they were watching the movie in the appropriate order now. (Hey, it's a foreign film! You have to have patience.) Regardless of the slight flub, the film worked incredibly well with an audience, and it made for a fantastic double feature.

Multiple kudos to both FANGORIA and the Two Boots for putting on what appeared to be their biggest screenings ever.

TRICK 'R TREAT was written & directed by Michael Dougherty (X-MEN 2, SUPERMAN RETURNS), produced by Bryan Singer (THE USUAL SUSPECTS, X-MEN) and stars Quinn Lord, Brian Cox (RED, MANHUNTER, X-MEN 2), Leslie Bibb (MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, IRON MAN), Dylan Baker (SPIDER-MAN 2, HAPPINESS), Rochelle Aytes, Anna Paquin (from HBO's TRUE BLOOD), Moneca Delain, Lauren Lee Smith, Tahmoh Penikett, Lauren Lee Smith, Britt McKillip, Isabelle Deluce, Jean-Luc Bilodeau & Samm Todd.

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (Låt den rätte komma in) was directed by Tomas Alfredson from a script by John Ajvide Lindqvist (and based on his original novel of the same name) and stars Kåre Hedebrant, Lina Leandersson, Per Ragner, Henrik Dahl, Karin Bergquist, Peter Carlberg, Ika Nord & Mikael Rahm.

Eric Red Adapting Jack Ketchum's OFF SEASON!

It seems plenty of Jack Ketchum's material is finally being adapted into feature films! There's Chris Sivertson's THE LOST, as well as last year's THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. RED is just about to hit DVD shelves, and it was recently announced that Andrew Van Den Houten would be directing OFFSPRING. Now, following a screening of 100 FEET at this year's Screamfest in Hollywood, Eric Red revealed that he'll be directing OFF SEASON.

Red told Shock Till You Drop, "Dallas [Jack Ketchum] and I have known each other for years and we've been talking about making this one. It's time, it's the perfect time to do it." Ketchum's OFF SEASON was originally published in 1981 and loosely inspired by the story of Sawney Bean (the basis of THE HILLS HAVE EYES and DEATH LINE aka RAW MEAT). Eric Red explained his take to Shock: "A great horror movie is a group of people trapped in an isolated setting against a monster. The difference with this is that it's going to be 100% convincing and hardcore and extreme. You couldn't have made the film ten years ago, but now I think you can take this as far as you can go. But we're going to stay very true to the book: Low-key, small, very shocking."

Red, the writer of such noted genre fare as NEAR DARK and THE HITCHER is also attached to direct NIGHTLIFE, a vampire story he scripted.

"V" To Return to Primetime-Original Creator Not Involved

In the early 1980's, sci-fi miniseries "V", the alien-human Holocaust allegory scored record ratings, spawned a sequel, "V: The Final Battle", and the short lived but well made "V: The Series". Now ABC is set to revive the cult classic for a new franchise, according to Variety. The new show, produced by "The 4400" creator Scott Peters will not try to replicate the original except that "the new "V" will still focus on what happens when the masses have blind faith in their leaders."

The 80's series focused on seemingly benevolent aliens coming to Earth with the the promise of sharing advanced technology in exchange for some help with their ailing planet. Unfortunately for the human race while they looked human underneath they were secretly lizard-like creatures who'd come to steal our water and enslave us.

Original series creator Kenneth Johnson had been trying to get a sequel to the original series off the ground for several years without success. Earlier this year Johnson released his sequel in the form of the novel "V: The Second Generation".

The original "V" series also featured many horror genre veterans such as Marc Singer, Robert Englund, Michael Ironside, Leonard Cimino, Jane Badler, and Faye Grant in early roles as both human and alien.

While the prospect of a series without Johnson disappoints us, we cannot lie...

Shaun Evans Cast In Clive Barker's DREAD!

Shock Till You Drop is reporting that Shaun Evans has joined the cast of the latest Clive Barker BOOKS OF BLOOD adaptation, DREAD, currently prepping to shoot in England later this month. The 28-year-old actor will be portraying the lead character Quaid who in the original short story is obsessed with turning people's fear against them. He joins the recently announced Jackson Rathbone (TWILIGHT, S. DARKO) with Anthony DiBlasi writing & directing. Matador and Essential Entertainment are producing the feature. More when we hear it!

Kevin Smith Talks RED STATE!

Quint from Aint It Cool recently sat down to chat with filmmaker Kevin Smith about his latest comedy ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO (starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks) and the subject of his long-mooted horror film RED STATE came up. He told the site, "I'm still trying to find money for Red State, though, admittedly, I haven't been looking that hard yet, since it's not something I'm gonna get to 'til March the earliest. Early prospects, however, look dim. Problem is, the flick is bleak. Beyond bleak, even. Remember how bleak Dark Knight was? This flick makes the bleakness level in that flick seem Beverly Hills Chihuahua bleak. Sadly, while the flick's bleaker than Dark Knight, it's also not nearly as good as Dark Knight. Or as commercial. Or commercial at all, really. The commercial prospects for Red State are not good. The only chance it'll have at the box office would be if it caught a water cooler-kinda buzz out of a film festival. So when you go down the checklist (overtly bleak, unlikeable characters making horrible decisions, unhappy ending in which everyone dies, a director of questionable talent who's never worked in this genre before), you can see why folks aren't whipping out their check books."

"The question, then, would be "Why bother?" For some reason, I feel like I've gotta make this flick. Part of the reason is that I never really feel like a filmmaker most days; more of a writer who gets to direct his own flicks. Trying my hand at another genre that's 180 degrees away from anything else I've ever done might finally answer the question (for me) of whether or not I truly am a filmmaker, or just the guy who makes the dick and fart jokes movies. I suspect it's the latter. I guess we'll see. Maybe."

"The flick I wanna do after that is a comedy set in space. Unsurprisingly, it's been 100% easier to find the money for that one - even with only half the script done. It'll likely cost about double Zack and Miri's $24million budget, so it'll be the most expensive flick I've ever made. Hopefully, it's as well-received as Zack and Miri has been so far."

THE ORPHANAGE Director Takes On HATER!

Variety reports that Juan Antonio Bayona (director of last year's THE ORPHANAGE) will direct HATER, the Glen Mazzara-scripted adaptation of British author David Moody's thriller novel about an epidemic of violence perpetrated by ordinary people. (Sound's a bit like THE SIGNAL, but I'm not familiar with the source material yet.) Guillermo del Toro and Mark Johnson are producing.

The report continues, "Del Toro produced "The Orphanage," which was made in Bayona's home country of Spain on a modest budget and grossed more than $76 million worldwide. "HATER" landed at Universal under del Toro's first-look deal there. Mazzara, a writer on "The Shield," was set at that time. Del Toro was originally approached by Johnson to direct, but his schedule on two installments of "THE HOBBIT" made that impossible. The producers then turned to Bayona. "I like the idea of a movie that talks about the state of fear we live in nowadays," Bayona told Daily Variety. The film is set in the U.S., and while exteriors will be shot locally when the film gets under way next year, Johnson hopes to shoot the interiors in Spain. Original Variety piece HERE!

JACK BROOKS MONSTER SLAYER Sequel?

Bloody Good Horror recently chatted with JACK BROOKS: MONSTER SLAYER director Jon Knautz and the topic of a sequel came up. "Yes, we're definitely doing a sequel, for sure," Knautz told BGH. "We're quite far into development. We knew we didn't have the money to do a full blown action/horror movie with part 1, we just didn't have the money. So the gameplan was to make a movie about a guy who becomes a monster slayer, and then the action hits you at the end. With Part 2 now, we're looking to raise quite a bit more money... people will get what they want in this one for sure, if they like the end of the first one."

In terms of plot, he continues, "There will be new characters, and Jack sort of partners up with someone else. Actually, It's more like they are forced to work with each other. He kind of gets caught up in this scenario where he's taken advantage of and then realizes later on that he was sort of used to kill monsters he wasn't necessarily supposed to kill, and it kind of leads him into this whole new adventure he gets caught up in."

THE CRAZIES Remake Begins Production Next Year

Variety reports that Overture Films will produce and distribute the much delayed remake of George Romero's THE CRAZIES early next year. Unfortunately, Brad Anderson is no longer attached as director. Instead, we've got Breck Eisner. The article says, "The redo will be directed by Breck Eisner from a script by Ray Wright and Scott Kosar. Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris will produce; Romero will serve as executive producer." Oddly, anytime asked, Romero often says he knows nothing about the remake, nor is he ever asked to take part in it. "Crazies" revolves around people in a small Kansas town who are beset by a virus that causes insanity and death after a mysterious toxin contaminates the local water supply. Project was previously set up at Rogue Pictures and Paramount. Overture CEO Chris McGurk and chief operating officer Danny Rosett felt it was a good fit for the company's expanding slate. "We've been trying to move into horror fare that is clever and smart," McGurk said. Production is set to begin early next year. Original Variety piece HERE.

NIGHT OF THE DEMONS Begins Production!

Production has officially begun for NIGHT OF THE DEMONS, currently shooting in New Orleans. The remake from Summit Entertainment based on the 1988 cult-classic film stars Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back), Monica Keena (Freddy vs. Jason, Judd Apatow's Undeclared) Diora Baird (Wedding Crashers, Star Trek), Edward Furlong (Detroit Rock City, Terminator 2), Bobbi Sue Luther (Killer Pad, Laid To Rest), Tiffany Shepis (Nightmare Man, Nympha), Jonathan Beach and Michael Copon. Adam Gierasch directs from a script co-penned with Jace Anderson and Academy Award® winning Drac Studios is handling the film's gruesome make-up FX! Linnea Quigley from the original cameos! Vintage Videos From The WRONG TURN 2 NY Premiere!

In honor of the 5 FRIGHTFEST short-films that Joe Lynch and Adam Green put together and posted on-line this past month, we've decided to share with you 2 rarely seen videos. About a year ago, a few days prior to the release of WRONG TURN 2: DEAD END, Fox had scheduled for 2 theatrical screenings of WRONG TURN 2 on the big screen. One was set for New York, while the other one was set for LA. Unfortunately, both screenings were set for the exact same evening, and director Joe Lynch couldn't make it back to his native New York to see the flick with his family. (Long Island, represent!)

The ICONS crew had prepared in advance to make something a little special from the screening for Joe. Adam Barnick brought his camera and planned to film audience reactions and thoughts following the screening with Joe's family, friends and fans. Much to our surprise, Joe himself has surprised us with a special video introduction that started the entire evening off, mentioning and thanked the ICONS crew. So below are those 2 videos. The first being Joe's video introduction to the NY premiere of WRONG TURN 2 (note: it played at the Two Boots which is part pizza-place), and the second being ICONS video to Joe from the premiere. ENJOY!

Guillermo Del Toro Talks His Version Of FRANKENSTEIN!

Coming Soon.net caught up with Guillermo Del Toro at The New Yorker Festival and got an update on his upcoming 2-picture adaptation of THE HOBBIT. The article mentions that he'll be wrapped up in Middle Earth until 2012 with the 2 HOBBIT movies and is then booked solid until 2017 with DR. JEKYL AND MR. HYDE, his Lovecraft adaptation of AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, his vampire trilogy of books (read more about that HERE) and his proposed version of FRANKENSTEIN.

According to Coming Soon, Del Toro is an acknowledged fan of "Frankenstein." He has busts of Boris Karloff as the monster in his house. One of his biggest filmic influences, the 1973 Spanish film The Spirit of the Beehive, revolves around a showing of the classic Universal Frankenstein. He has raved about Bernie Wrightson's illustrated version and the original Frank Darabont script eventually filmed as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein by Kenneth Branagh in '94 and all-but-disowned by Darabont. Del Toro's version, however, sounds decidedly different…

"I'm not doing 'Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.' I'm doing an adventure story that involves the creature. I cannot say much, but it's not the central creation story, I'm not worried about that. The fact is I've been dreaming of doing a 'Frankenstein' movie since I was a child. The one thing I can promise is, compared to Kenneth Branagh, I will not appear shirtless in the movie!"

You can read more on FRANKENSTEIN and THE HOBBIT at the original article HERE!

First Image Of Jensen Ackles In MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D!

Lionsgate has released the first publicity still of SUPERNATURAL's Jensen Ackles from the upcoming MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D! (Below) Based on the 1981 cult horror, My Bloody Valentine 3D, directed by Patrick Lussier, tells a tale of Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), a man who caused an accident in a coal mine in the town of Harmony, killing five men and putting one into a coma.

Run!

MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D was directed by Patrick Lussier (DRACULA 2000) from a script by Todd Farmer (JASON X) & Zane Smith and stars SUPERNATURAL's Jensen Ackles, Jaime King (THE TRIPPER), Kerr Smith (FINAL DESTINATION), Edi Gathegi, Kevin Tighe & Megan Boone.

Click HERE for a look at the theatrical poster for MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D!

Director Found For 28 MONTHS LATER?

Apparently there's talk of a sequel to 28 DAYS LATER and 28 WEEKS LATER called (wait for it...) 28 MONTHS LATER. This is somewhat surprising considering 28 WEEKS LATER didn't do so well at the US box office, but perhaps it fared better overseas? Regardless, I loved the sequel and would be curious to see another follow-up, especially if this rumored director is attached. Arrow In The Head overheard that Paul Andrew Williams, director of THE COTTAGE (starring frequent Peter Jackson actor Andy Serkis) is in talks to helm the 2nd sequel. No more details besides that, which you can find at Arrow's site HERE! THE COTTAGE was actually a pretty cool little horror film with a dash of black comedy. Check it out if you get a chance. More when we hear it!

[REC] Directors Show Off Faux Trailers For DAMNED FRIDAY & THE EXORCIST 5!

The directing duo behind one of my favorite horror films this year, the Spanish flick [REC] (just remade for America as QUARANTINE) have put together a few fake trailers for a website called Teaserland.com. More accurately, it's a site for a film festival put on by Sitges organizer Xavi Bru where filmmakers are are encouraged to create fictional trailers for movies they'd like to see. [REC] co-director Paco Plaza just posted a teaser for MALDITO VIERNES (DAMNED FRIDAY). (Translation of the voice over:: "Vampires don`t exist...everyone knows that. Nothing unusual happened last night...just a regular Friday night, like any other. I didn´t run into anyone, no one attacked me. Nothing unusual happened. Vampires don´t exist...everyone knows that.")

Just underneath that at the Teaserland webpage, you'll also see [REC] co-director Jaume Balagueró's teaser trailer for THE EXORCIST 5. Quite frankly, after experiencing [REC], these directors have incredible style and unique sensibilities for the genre. Let's hope it's not too long before their next feature length film. (Which is supposedly a sequel to [REC])

Head on over to Teaserland.com and check out the trailers for yourself.

(*Note: I personally had trouble getting them to play in Firefox. However, they played fine in Internet Explorer.)

COTTONMOUTH TV TRAILER:

Vengeful ghouls from beyond the grave… Special effects make-up… True ghost stories… A horror movie premiere…

One place where you can find all of these things and more is COTTONMOUTH.TV.

Created by Christopher P. Garetano (Horror Business), COTTONMOUTH.TV is a celebration of horror movies, comic books and Halloween. The forthcoming website was initially conceived as a unique venue to premiere the short film of the same name. Directed by Garetano, Cottonmouth is a meticulously crafted mini-movie that aims to scare the hell out of its audience.

In 1986 artist Steve Bissette (Swamp Thing, Taboo) crafted a three-page horror story that was published in the pages of an underground horror comic titled Gore Shriek. Cottonmouth is his macabre story of four angry ghosts who take their revenge on the “company man” who was responsible for their deaths. Now filmmaker Christopher P. Garetano has brought Cottonmouth to life for the Internet generation.

On October 1, 2008, COTTONMOUTH.TV will go live, first with a variety of short vignettes, and then with Cottonmouth the movie premiering on October 31st. The vignettes will include behind-the-scenes footage of Cottonmouth, “How to Make a Monster” with Wicked Effects makeup artist Jay Alvino, the eerie music of Chris Alexander, a history of horror comics with Steve Bissette and Trevor Cook, true ghost stories, and a special Halloween episode of the Internet show America’s Bad Kids.

Cottonmouth merchandise will also be available from the site but the movie and other viewing content is all free. Visitors are encouraged (but not obligated) to donate to one of two charities that include a prominent cancer research foundation and an organization for a rare disease called Penthigus.

Further information regarding the charities will be available on Cottonmouth.TV in the “treats” section.

For more information log onto COTTONMOUTH.TV on or after October 1, 2008.

POLTERGEIST DirecTV Ad... In Bad Taste?

I found this on the Slashfilm.com website and thought it was worth sharing. You know those DirecTV commercials? You've seen 'em. Sigourney Weaver as Ripley again in ALIENS. Robert Patrick as the T1000 again in TERMINATOR 2. Well there's a new one just in time for the Halloween season with Craig T. Nelson from POLTERGEIST. Only... they use a sequence with the late Heather O’Rourke too. I don't know... I know it's just a commercial, but for me personally, I find this kind of in... bad taste? Watch it below and comment. What do you guys think?

Ok, I'm not sure what the deal is with BLINDNESS, other then the fact it was helmed by the director of CITY OF GOD... but the basic premise and TV spots I've seen thus far scare the crap out of me. Now, Yahoo is offering you a chance to see the first 5 minutes of the film on-line! BLINDNESS was directed by Fernando Meirelles and stars Don McKellar, Julianne Moore (HANNIBAL), Mark Ruffalo (ZODIAC), Danny Glover (SAW) and Alice Braga. The film is based on Jose Saramago's acclaimed novel that is set in motion when an epidemic of blindness sweeps through a contemporary city and pushes society to the brink of breakdown. It opens today in theaters! Visit the official website HERE and watch the first 5 minutes below!

What seems like a normal trip to their auntie's and uncle's soon turns into a disaster as uncle Robbie is mysteriously killed after appearing to fall off a sledge. Then, mysterious child like figures from the forest start attacking. Check out the teaser trailer below! Looks creepy enough!

George Romero's... ISLAND OF THE DEAD?

A few days back, rumor had it that George A. Romero had started shooting a new zombie movie that was not a sequel to this year's DIARY OF THE DEAD. Now, Variety confirms this news with a plot synopsis to the as-yet-to-be-titled new Romero movie that's tentatively going by the name ISLAND OF THE DEAD. (Hey, I dig that.)

According to Variety's article, the "Plot involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure. The cast includes Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh (TWIN PEAKS), Kathleen Munroe, Devon Bostick (SAW IV), Richard Fitzpatrick, Stefano Colacitti and Athena Karkanis (SAW IV)."

Meanwhile, Aint It Cool has a few "spy" photos from the production which you can check out HERE!

HOUSE Trailer & Synopsis!

From acclaimed novelists Ted Dekker and Frank Perreti, Roadside Attractions presents: HOUSE, (no, it's not a remake of the 1986 horror film HOUSE with William Katt, George Wendt & Richard Moll!) This HOUSE opens Friday, November 7, 2008.

On a deserted back road in Alabama , Jack and Stephanie find themselves driving fast and running late. Their world suddenly changes when a strange accident leaves them stranded with no car, no cell phone coverage, and no help in sight. They have no choice except to continue on foot. As darkness approaches, they round a bend and see a small sign at the top of a long gravel driveway: The Wayside Inn.

The exhausted couple stands in front of an inviting house, complete with gated stone wall, ancient oak trees, and a note welcoming weary travelers. Inside they find another couple with an equally troubling story about a similar accident. It seems that backwoods pranksters have made their day miserable. Still, they are safe . . .

Or so they think.

Roadside Attractions presents HOUSE. You can check out the trailer below!

FIRST LOOK REVIEW: LET THE RIGHT ONE IN!

Just added! A FIRST LOOK REVIEW for the Swedish vampire flick LET THE RIGHT ONE IN! (Låt den rätte komma in) Directed by Tomas Alfredson from a script by John Ajvide Lindqvist (and based on his original novel of the same name), LET THE RIGHT ONE IN stars Kåre Hedebrant as Oskar and Lina Leandersson as Eli. The story centers around the shy & often bullied 12 year old Oskar and his blossoming relationship with his new neighbor Eli. Eli however isn't like other 12 year old girls. Oskar believes she may be a vampire.

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN is a movie that ICONS OF FRIGHT stands 100% behind. Guillermo del Toro said, "As delicate, haunting and poetic a film as you're ever bound to see... A chilling fairy tale." And it's already being remade (sigh) for American audiences by CLOVERFIELD director Matt Reeves. Magnet, the horror sub-division of Magnolia Pictures will release it theatrically on October 24th. In the meantime, read our FIRST LOOK REVIEW of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN by clicking the image below or HERE! Check out the trailer at yesterday's news post HERE! You don't want to miss this one!

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN US Trailer!

I just had the pleasure of seeing Tomas Alfredson's beautiful, beautiful movie LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. (Which has already been tapped for an American remake from CLOVERFIELD director Matt Reeves.) Now, IGN informed us that they've got the US trailer for the Swedish flick. You can watch it below:

I love, love, love this movie. It's about a shy young boy named Oskar who constantly gets picked on by the kids at school. Then he meets his new next door neighbor Eli. As their relationship blossoms, she begins to teach him how to be confident and stand up for himself. Of course, Oskar then starts to realize that his new girlfriend very well may be a vampire. This is one you have to see if you just appreciate good movies! My FIRST LOOK review will be up later this week. LET THE RIGHT ONE IN opens in limited theatrical release on October 24th courtesy of Magnolia's MAGNET division.

SHOCK N ROLL ISSUE 3: GEORGE A. ROMERO & GREG NICOTERO!

It's officially October 2008! And today marks the release of George A. Romero's LAND OF THE DEAD on Blu-Ray! The flick marked his return to the "zombie" genre which he created back 1968 with NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. In celebration of this release, ICONS and Tim Sullivan have decided to reprint 2 vintage interviews with George A. Romero and Greg Nicotero from SHOCK N ROLL when it was a feature on Upcoming Horror Movies.com. These are among 2 of my personal fave interviews that Tim conducted for LAND's release back in 2005. So sit back and enjoy a candid chat with both Romero and Nicotero about LAND OF THE DEAD! ICONS OF FRIGHT and Tim Sullivan's SHOCK N ROLL present ISSUE 3: THIS LAND WAS BLED FOR YOU & ME! (Click the frame to read it!) -Robg. (10/1/08)

Tim's original intro from 2005: Move aside George Lucas, another George is in town. This George’s name is Romero and yeah, you might have written a little space opera called STAR WARS, and yeah, you might have made a bit of a cultural impact in the land of sci-fi, but hell, in the land of horror, this guy made the modern landscape what it is today! A land of rip-offs and parodies and remakes and sequels and sequels to remakes and even sequels to sequels of remakes (got that?), and it all started in Pittsburgh 40 years ago with a bunch of chocolate syrup and leftover goodies from the local butcher shop and a certain little line of dialogue…

“They’re coming to get you, Barbara…”

Yeah, you know what I’m talking about. No matter how freaking old you are now or when you first heard that immortal line, whether it was a Drive-in in the 60’s, a revival house in the 70’s, a rented video in the 80’s or a netflick last week, that line is to horror freaks what “Luke, I am your father” is to sci-fi geeks. But NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD has a full ten years on the STAR WARS legacy, and one would be hard pressed to think of another genre series that has lasted this long, let alone bringing forth a new chapter in all but one decade since its first entry. (Ah, one wonders what a 90’s George Romero LIVING DEAD movie would have been like. Think of it, a mid 90’s Clinton-era zombie parable, sandwiched between the alternative grunge of the early 90’s and the boy band pop of the later 90’s).

This summer is Nirvana. Not only have we finally seen Anarkin become Darth, but we are finally seeing the maestro play comeback kid on the long side of 60, showing all his moviemaking protégés how the mentor does it. The grandfather of the modern horror film is back kiddies, and Grandpa can shock and roll with the best of them, maybe even better than us all. Pay attention, cuz this is how it is done. With thoughtfulness and storytelling and craft and characterization. Oh, yeah, and did I mention blood and guts and chopped off hands and stomped heads and imploding entrails? This is George Romero supersized. Widescreen for the first time, a bigger budget than previous zombie efforts, but with his independent spirit and unique flavor intact and as potent as ever.

Along for the ride with Grandpa Zombie is one of his ‘grandkids”, make-up impresario Greg Nicotero, a fanboy FX assistant 20 years ago on DAY OF THE DEAD, now, with partner Howard Berger of KNB, in charge of the entire special make-up effects army so integral to Romero’s world. Greg is proof in the pudding that one can go from apprentice to colleague, so aim high, zombie kids. Here now, is a double feature for y’all, straight up from the LAND OF THE DEAD. After all these years, “They’re STILL coming to get you…”

ANGEL HEART Gets The Remake Treatment?

Michael De Luca has partnered with Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta to develop a bigscreen remake of the 1987 Mickey Rourke supernatural thriller ANGEL HEART, reports Variety. The article continues, "Producers optioned remake rights from a private U.K. firm, which owns the rights to the original film, which was produced by Carolco and distributed by TriStar. De Luca, Rosenzweig and Gaeta also optioned the underlying book rights to William Hjortsberg's novel "Falling Angel," from which original film was adapted.

Original film, which caused a stir for its steamy sex scenes, was written and directed by Alan Parker and also starred Robert De Niro and Lisa Bonet.

Novel follows the exploits of Harry Angel, a New York detective hired by a mysterious client to track down a once-popular performer indebted to him. While pursuing this seemingly routine investigation, Harry encounters dark and supernatural forces.

De Luca, whose recent producing credits include "21" and "Ghost Rider," said he has long been a fan of the novel. "It's a great blend of genres with a great Faustian bargain, compelling, universal themes and a rare combination of literary and commercial appeal," he said."

Less "Bloodied" US Poster For MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D!

A few months back EMPIRE revealed the theatrical poster for MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D. (See that HERE!) Now, a revised slightly less "bloodied" version has been released as the US theatrical one-sheet. Check it out below:

"Based on the 1981 cult horror, My Bloody Valentine 3D, directed by Patrick Lussier, tells a tale of Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), a man who caused an accident in a coal mine in the town of Harmony, killing five men and putting one into a coma.

Run!

MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D was directed by Patrick Lussier (DRACULA 2000) from a script by Todd Farmer (JASON X) & Zane Smith and stars SUPERNATURAL's Jensen Ackles, Jaime King (THE TRIPPER), Kerr Smith (FINAL DESTINATION), Edi Gathegi, Kevin Tighe & Megan Boone.
