Video Montage Of Several New SAW V Images!

A mere day after EW revealed the new image of Agent Strahm (Scott Patterson) about to face his trap in SAW V, a mysterious video montage created by You Tube user "JBraper" with even more SAW V pics has surfaced. There's a ton of new photos in the video clip, including various images of Tobin Bell as Jigsaw (in what we imagine will be numerous flashback scenes). Also of note is the final image in this clip. It's either a major spoiler, wishful thinking from a fan, or just a photo from the first SAW film. If it's a hint of a returning character, well then SAW V might turn out to be quite interesting indeed! Check it out below!

The fifth installment in the SAW franchise directed by David Hackl & written by screenwriting duo Marcus Dunstan & Patrick Melton (FEAST, new HELLRAISER) stars Tobin Bell, Julie Benz, Costas Mandylor, Scott Patterson, Mark Rolston, Samantha Lemole, Meagan Good, Betsy Russell, Carlo Rota, Greg Bryk and Laura Gordon. On the basis of the beautiful bloody opening 5 minute scene of WIZARD OF GORE, which plays out to THE BLACK HEART PROCESSION song "The Old Kind Of Summer", we immediately knew that we had to talk to Jeremy. Click HERE or on the frame below for one of our all-time favorite ICONS chats!

The expectation is that Liv Tyler, along with several of the original villains, will return. Production is being slated for early 2009." The first movie starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman went on to gross $54 million domestically making it the surprise horror hit of the summer. William Lustig Bringing Back MANIAC COP!

"It must be visiting hours, 'cause my friend is back!"

FANGORIA is reporting that at the recent Anthology Film Archives screening of the first two MANIAC COP films, director William Lustig revealed his intentions to make a new MANIAC COP movie! Lustig directed all 3 MANIAC COP films as a collaboration with screenwriter Larry Cohen (IT'S ALIVE) and both are very much involved in the series resurrection. "Larry and I have gotten the sequel rights back for MANIAC COP, and we’re preparing to do a MANIAC COP 4. I don’t have any more details other than that; this all happened within the last month, so it’s so fresh… When I get back to Los Angeles, Larry and I are going to sit down and work on something."

I love the first 2 MANIAC COP films. (3rd one's OK, but Lustig often admits to producer's interference) So, count us excited for the return of the MANIAC COP! (Question is... will Robert Z'Dar return too?) More when we hear it!

First Word From Directors On HALLOWEEN 2; Sequel To Rob Zombie's Remake!

Back in a news report from June of this year, word got out that French director's Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury were in talks to helm HALLOWEEN 2, the sequel to Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN remake. Now, the director's themselves have commented about the upcoming flick in the pages of Rue Morgue magazine according to SHOCK.

Maury says, "it's a proposition we couldn't refuse." (From the SHOCK post:) He explains they're reverent of Zombie's re-imagining of Michael Myers and they're out to put their stamp on the character not copy what came before them. "Therefore, our vision will be done with upmost respect, with a continuity of [Zombie's] work but also a real evolution of the world he set in place."

Have you guys seen INSIDE yet? The flick these 2 crazy bastards made? It's by far one of the most brutal and bloody movies that this writer has seen in years, so the idea of these guys making a Michael Myers flick is intriguing. We would assume that Scout Taylor-Compton would return as Laurie Strode. Rumor has it that Tyler Mane (Michael Myers) and Malcolm McDowell (Dr. Sam Loomis) signed sequel contracts when they signed on to the first film. September's issue of Rue Morgue magazine will have the full interview with the director duo. More when we hear it!

BLOOD NIGHT Behind-The-Scenes Featurette; New Stills!

Back in June, we chatted a bit with filmmaker Frank Sabatella about his upcoming debut feature BLOOD NIGHT: THE LEGEND OF MARY HATCHET. (Read it HERE!) Now, we've been provided with a behind-the-scene video from BLOOD NIGHT, as well as several exclusive stills from the flick. Check out the sneak peek video, synopsis and stills below!

"BLOOD NIGHT: THE LEGEND OF MARY HATCHET"

Long Island, 1978: A young girl named Mary Mattock gruesomely murders her family with a hatchet and is locked away for life in Long Island’s notorious Kings Park Psychiatric Center . Ten years later Mary escapes from the asylum, leaving a grizzly wake of bodies and blood. Gunned down by the police, Mary meets her own demise outside the sanitarium walls. This incident gave birth to the legend of Mary Hatchet’s walking ghost and the mischievous night named in honor of her death, “BLOOD NIGHT!”

Stemming from the real life Long Island legend of Mary Hatchet, BLOOD NIGHT: THE LEGEND OF MARY HATCHET tells the tale of a group of teenagers enjoying their annual “Blood Night” festivities, when they come face to face with the reality of this haunting legend. One by one the teens begin to disappear and meet their fates. As the body count rises, so do the unanswered questions about their missing friends and the secrets of Mary’s horrifying past. Is there more to this legend than the vengeful ghost of Mary Hatchet and if so who will survive to tell the terrifying tale?

Starring Bill Moseley, Danielle Harris, Samantha Facchi, Billy Magnussen, Nate Dushku, Alissa Dean, Samantha Hahn, Maryam Basir and Anthony Marks, BLOOD NIGHT: THE LEGEND OF MARY HATCHET is written, produced and directed by Frank Sabatella, and produced by Frank Mosca. Mike Seiman and Carlton Hickman are the films executive producers.

TRICK 'R TREAT Screening This October In NYC!

Hot on the heels of todays earlier report that TRICK 'R TREAT would be hitting DVD, SHOCK got an update on their article implying that we'd see a limited theatrical release of Michael Dougherty's Halloween-themed anthology before the eventual DVD release. Now, FANGORIA announced that they'll be hosting a FREE screening of the movie at The Two Boots Pioneer Theater on Monday, October 13 at 7 p.m.! The film’s writer/director, Michael Doughtery will introduce the film and take part in a Q&A.

Here's how to get tickets (from FANGO's site): "The Fango/Pioneer TRICK ’R TREAT screening will be a free show; to obtain tickets, send an e-mail to fangoscreening@starloggroup.com. You must list “TRICK ’R TREAT” as your subject line. Offer is good for you and one guest; plus, tell us your full name and whether you want to be added to the FANGORIA newsletter list so we can tell you about future Fango screenings and events. Names will be checked at the door. Offer is first come, first served, and we will confirm your RSVP. This advance preview is sponsored by Legendary Pictures." Visit the Two Boots website for more info HERE!

TRICK 'R TREAT was written and directed by Michael Dougherty (SUPERMAN RETURNS, X-MEN 2), produced by Bryan Singer (THE USUAL SUSPECTS, X-MEN) and stars Quinn Lord, Brian Cox(MANHUNTER, X-MEN 2), Leslie Bibb (MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, IRON MAN), Dylan Baker (SPIDER-MAN 2), Rochelle Aytes, Anna Paquin, Moneca Delain & Lauren Lee Smith. You can check out the trailer HERE!

Whedon's CABIN IN THE WOODS Vs SAW VI!

FANGORIA is reporting that Joss Whedon's horror flick THE CABIN IN THE WOODS is set to hit theaters on October 23, 2009, putting it in direct competition with SAW VI, and despite the fact that CABIN has yet to confirm a cast or production start date! THE CABIN IN THE WOODS will be directed by Drew Goddard from a script he co-wrote with Joss Whedon. Goddard wrote this year's hit CLOVERFIELD, and Whedon is the creator of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, FIREFLY and the recent internet web series hit DR. HORRIBLE'S SING-ALONG BLOG. SAW VI is being helmed by SAW 1-5 editor Kevin Greutert and is locked for an October 30th, 2009 release. Little details are available in regards to either film, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we hear something!

TRICK 'R TREAT Finally Coming... But To DVD?!

It's been a while since we've heard anything about the directorial debut of screenwriter Michael Dougherty's TRICK 'R TREAT, which was originally due out in theaters last Halloween. Then it was listed as an 'upcoming release' on the most recent publicity sheet from Warner Bros. Now, while still unconfirmed, SHOCK is reporting that the WB are planning a direct-to-DVD release for TRICK 'R TREAT.

Their article quotes a reliable source as saying, "Just got an email. Warner is keeping Trick 'r Treat, but it's going direct-to-DVD." Rumor has it that the WB weren't sure how to sell the Halloween themed anthology horror film. (Um... here's a thought... release it on Halloween, maybe?!)

Regardless, with the success of THE LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE and the direct-to-DVD RAW FEED films, it'd make sense for them to go this route.

TRICK 'R TREAT was written and directed by Michael Dougherty (SUPERMAN RETURNS, X-MEN 2) and stars Quinn Lord, Brian Cox(MANHUNTER, X-MEN 2), Leslie Bibb (MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, IRON MAN), Dylan Baker (SPIDER-MAN 2), Rochelle Aytes, Anna Paquin, Moneca Delain & Lauren Lee Smith. You can check out the trailer below:

Starz is planning a television broadcast of "HIS NAME WAS JASON" for the first week of February 2009 to coincide with the release of Platinum Dunes FRIDAY THE 13TH remake (directed by Marcus Nispel and starring SUPERNATURAL's Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti and Derek Mears) with a DVD release from Anchor Bay Entertainment to follow shortly after. Anchor Bay also put out last years HALLOWEEN: 25 YEARS OF TERROR documentary produced by Masi. (Farrands produced the wonderful AMITYVILLE HORROR docs for The History Channel and Masi is also a producer on THE PSYCHO LEGACY doc.)

We'll keep you posted on more details about the documentary as they emerge!

DAN FARRANDS Icons interview still stands up as one of our all time favorites that we've published. Check it out again by clicking the frame below!

Shooting begins September 30th on the Sci-Fi Channel/Anchor Bay and Starz Entertainment's made-for-TV remake of CHILDREN OF THE CORN, and Bloody-Disgusting got the first bit of casting news for the project (being helmed by Donald Borchers, producer on the original). The site reports that David Anders (Takezo Kensei / Adam Monroe from Season 2 of TV's HEROES) and Kandyse McClure (TV's BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, REAPER) are the first cast members to join CHILDREN OF THE CORN. You can read details on the shooting locations at our previous news post HERE! More when we hear it!

IT'S ALIVE Remake Trailer!

Below you can check out the trailer to the remake of IT'S ALIVE, coming from Millennium Films, directed by Josef Rusnak from a script by Larry Cohen, Paul Sopocy, James Portolese (based on Larry Cohen's original film of the same name) and starring Bijou Phillips (HOSTEL: PART II, WIZARD OF GORE), James Murray (TV's PRIMEVAL), Skye Bennett (DARK FLOORS), Raphaël Coleman and Arkie Reece. IT'S ALIVE is about "a baby born to a human couple turns out to be a mutant monster with an appetite to kill when scared." Have a look at the extended trailer for the new redux below, due out sometime in 2009!

POLTERGEIST Remake Finds 2 Writers!

Juliet Snowden and Stiles White have been hired to pen the screenplay for MGM's upcoming POLTERGEIST remake, (based on the classic horror film directed by Tobe Hooper, and co-written/produced by Steven Spielberg) according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Snowden and White wrote the (absolutely terrible) 2005 movie BOOGEYMAN, and have also worked on a draft of THE BIRDS remake (coming from who else, Platinum Dunes) and the upcoming KNOWING directed by Alex Proyas (I, ROBOT, DARK CITY, THE CROW).

The article says, "The original "Poltergeist," miraculously skirted an R rating despite its children-in-constant-peril, toy clown-strangling, face-peeling, skeleton-swimming medley of horrors. The MGM/UA release grossed $122 million worldwide and earned Oscar nominations for its ILM-designed visual effects, sound effects and score. The story of a suburban home built over an Indian burial ground and thus inhabited by a nasty spook earned further cult status when two of the child actors in the movie died after the film's release. Two nerve-jangling sequels were produced." More when we hear it!

Update On CHILD'S PLAY Remake!

Quint over at Ain't It Cool News did a lengthy interview with Don Mancini (co-writer on CHILD'S PLAY), David Kirschner (producer on CHILD’S PLAY) and Michelle Gold (producer of the new DVD). Several interesting tid-bits came up over the course of the conversation, including the topic of the proposed CHILD'S PLAY remake.

Don Mancini will be writing and directing the CHILD'S PLAY remake, aka "reboot" as they're calling it and it will retell the "origin" story established in the first CHILD'S PLAY movie.

They also reveal that they fully intend on using Brad Dourif as Chucky aka Charles Lee Ray again, as it would be difficult to imagine anyone else in the role.

Mancini tells Quint, "I think what we are mainly responding to, David and I, is the will of the fans, which is really telling us that they want to see a scary Chucky movie again. They want to go back to the straightforward horror rather than the horror comedy."

Well, with that quote, I'll bring up an interesting note - why is it that director Tom Holland is never mentioned or given proper credit for the first CHILD'S PLAY film by any of these people? There's a reason that ALL the sequels are radically different from the original and why the first movie stands out as the serious, scary one that fans have come to love & embrace. It's terribly disheartening that the producers of this DVD have decided to exclude the director from celebrating the anniversary of this landmark film. The series would not have spawned several sequels and the popularity it has without a director like Tom at the helm of the first movie.

You can read the entire interview at Aint It Cool's site HERE...

DEXTER: SEASON 2 On DVD Today!

The wait is over! DEXTER: THE SECOND SEASON is available on DVD today! By far my current favorite program on television, DEXTER is Showtime's hit series which stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Julie Benz, Erik King, James Remar, David Zayas, Lauren Vélez and C.S. Lee. (Jimmy Smits joins the cast in Season 3, premiering this fall!) WIZARD OF GORE On DVD Now!

THE WIZARD OF GORE (based on the 1970 Herschell Gordon Lewis of the same name) is out on DVD today courtesy of Dimension Extreme! Directed by Jeremy Kasten from a script by Zach Chassler, the update stars Crispin Glover (WILLARD), Kip Pardue, Bijou Phillips (HOSTEL: PART II), Jeffrey Combs (RE-ANIMATOR), Brad Dourif (CHILD'S PLAY), Joshua Miller (NEAR DARK) & the "Suicide Girls" and is available in an "unrated director's cut". We'll have an exclusive interview with director Jeremy Kasten next week! Check out the synopsis and trailer below!

Montag the Magnificent (Glover) is a master illusionist who performs at underground venues, selecting female volunteers from his rave-like audiences. To their hysteria, it appears he's dismembered their bodies, but his sleigh of hand has fooled them. However, female bodies show up dead from the same wounds performed on stage. Investigators are baffled, and the chase to find the killer begins.

DIARY OF THE DEAD 2 Starts Shooting This September!

As previously reported by DREAD CENTRAL HERE, George A. Romero starts shooting DIARY OF THE DEAD 2 on September 15th in Toronto, Canada. No other details at the moment, other then that the sequel is officially happening. The first DIARY OF THE DEAD is probably the only of George A. Romero's films that I don't like, but I'm optimistic for his sequel, especially if he abandons the "Cinéma vérité" style and goes for more traditional storytelling this time around. Will it pick up exactly where the last one left off with Michelle Morgan, Shawn Roberts and the professor in the panic room? We'll know post-September!

Warners Preps Direct-To-DVD DEEP BLUE SEA 2!

Well... Since Warners did well with THE LOST BOYS 2: THE TRIBE DVD (not to mention the DUKES OF HAZZARD prequel), it shouldn't come as a surprise that they're combing through their back catalog for more titles to sequelize.

Moviehole.net reports that we can expect a direct-to-DVD DEEP BLUE SEA 2 sometime next year. The site reports, "a studio source tells us today that the long-gestating “Deep Blue Sea 2” will be headed to a Blockbuster store near you (or more accurately, to Netflix) sometime next year. It's the next film they hope to do."

No other details besides the following, "Like the other flicks that WP is putting out, “Deep Blue Sea 2” will be made on a pretty most budget, so don’t expect any of the headline stars of the original – Thomas Jane or LL Cool J, for instance – to return. At the moment nobody’s on board – it’s merely got writers – (No Renny Harlin either? Wait, that might be a good thing!) on it probably won’t be cast until after the black cloud hanging over the impending actor’s strike subsides."

PUPPET MASTER: AXIS OF EVIL, DEMONIC TOYS 2, GINGERDEAD MAN 3? FULL MOON Sequel-Mania!

I grew up on Charlie Band's FULL MOON movies. Seriously. And while some of the recent ones are hit or miss, I'm still keeping tabs on what the company is up to. So I was pleasantly surprised to see a news post on Dread Central's site about a slew of new FULL MOON sequels!

They include a brand new PUPPET MASTER movie titled PUPPET MASTER: AXIS OF EVIL, which is rumored to be a period piece that takes place after the events of PUPPET MASTER 3: TOULON'S REVENGE (my favorite of the sequels) with PM3 helmer David DeCoteau attached to direct. Also on the slate is DEMONIC TOYS 2 (the Sci-Fi PUPPET MASTER VS DEMONIC TOYS starring Corey Feldman doesn't count), GINGERDEAD MAN 3: ROLLER BOOGIEMAN! (Hey, part 2 was a lot of fun!), BRIDE OF THE HEAD OF THE FAMILY, KILLJOY 3 and EVIL BONG 2: KING BONG. Dread's Foywonder has got a break down on each of the sequels at THIS news post.

Where the hell's DOLLMAN 2?! We'll keep you posted when we hear more!

WRONG TURN 3 Currently Shooting; Cast Update!

Apparently, principle photography is under way in Bulgaria for Fox's WRONG TURN 3 under the direction of Declan O'Brien. A follow-up to Joe Lynch's successful WRONG TURN 2: DEAD END, the new film supposedly centers on mutie Three-Finger as he takes on a group of prisoners who escape while being transported. (More details at our previous news post HERE!) Shock Till You Drop reports that Tom Frederic (THE OXFORD MURDERS), THE HILLS RUN RED's Janet Montgomery and Mike Straub, Tamer Hassan, Gil Kolirin and Chucky Venice (RETURN TO HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL) are all currently part of the cast. ED WOOD Writers Take A Crack At GOOSEBUMPS Movie!

The Hollywood Reporter says that "writing duo Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander are in negotiations to write the live-action big-screen adaptation of the children's horror series "GOOSEBUMPS" for Columbia Pictures."

The screenwriting pair also wrote Tim Burton's ED WOOD (my favorite Burton film!) and the recent Stephen King adaptation 1408.

The article continues, "Karaszewski and Alexander are expected to close their deal this week. While straight-to-video versions of the R.L. Stine book series have been made, the project will mark the first feature adaptation of the series and could become a franchise for Columbia, which acquired the rights in May. The "GOOSEBUMPS" series -- which comprises more than 50 books that often pay homage to classic sci-fi/horror movies such as "Night of the Living Dead" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" as well as the twist endings of "The Twilight Zone" -- have grossed hundreds of millions for Stine and Scholastic, second only to the "Harry Potter" series. Stine recently published a new 12-book series, "Goosebumps in HorrorLand," and Scholastic plans to launch a video game in the fall. Moritz has said he likely will cast youngsters for the leads and then include well-known actors in supporting roles, a la the "Potter" films."

Here's hoping that the producers stay true to R.L. Stine's book series!

FANGORIA got the scoop that Director/makeup FX creator Marcus Koch's 100 TEARS will be released on DVD sometime in November/December 2008 by Anthem Pictures. The film follows the gory exploits of Gurdy the killer clown!

About what fans can expect from the DVD release, Koch told FANGO, "The disc will have an unrated cut that’s different from what everyone has seen at film festivals and Fango cons with a few additional and extended gore scenes. The special features should include a brand-new making-of featurette, with cast and crew interviews, that was not included on France and Germany’s DVD releases, as well as deleted scenes, outtakes, and a behind-the-scenes montage."

BLOODSUCKING CINEMA Documentary On Vampire Movies Out September 23rd!

A New Documentary Sheds Light on the Creatures of the Night! ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS THE STARZ ORIGINALS DOCUMENTARY BLOODSUCKING CINEMA, Making its Mark on DVD September 23. They are the sexy embodiment of immortality. Their literal lust for life rivals the antics of today’s rockstars. The story of the vampire has ravished humanity for thousands of years. But, in particular, evil, erotic and insatiable, vampires have stalked our dreams – especially with our eyes wide open in a darkened theater. The vampire has been a fixture of the cinematic landscape, from the silent era to today’s CGI blockbusters. What is the continuing fascination? The Starz Originals documentary Bloodsucking Cinema, which Anchor Bay Entertainment is releasing on DVD September 23 at the anemic SRP of $19.97, goes a long way to toward explaining this attraction.

Bloodsucking Cinema dips into the bloody archives to examine the breadth of vampire cinema classics, from the early Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee classic portrayals to contemporary visions including Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Van Helsing, Underworld: Evolution, Interview with the Vampire, The Lost Boys, Queen of the Damned, BloodRayne and John Carpenter’s Vampires.

Bloodsucking Cinema features interviews with such vampire “experts” as directors John Carpenter (Vampires), Len Wiseman (Underworld), John Landis (Innocent Blood) and Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys), actors Kristanna Loken (BloodRayne) and Stuart Townsend (Queen of the Damned), writers Marv Wolfman and David Goyer (Blade), as well as one of the last interviews with Oscar®-winning special effects wizard Stan Winston (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Interview With The Vampire). Critics Leonard Maltin and Harry Knowles also provide insights into the movies’ eternal love affair with the vampire. The documentary is hosted by renowned film critic Richard Roeper.

Cloaked in black, shunning the day, debonair, thirsting for the life source of his victims, the vampire is a symbol of danger and degeneracy. Bloodsucking Cinema tells how the many versions of his terrifying story made it to film, from Count Dracula rising from his coffin, to beautiful women seducing their victims in the dark. MonstersAndCritics.com called the documentary “an event in itself – a definitive study of the marks the vampire has left on movie history!”

Sony Begins Talks For CANDYMAN Remake?!

Ah, no movie is safe from a redux! Shock Till You Drop is reporting that Sony is in "early talks" to develop a remake of CANDYMAN. The original was directed by Bernard Rose and starred Virginia Madsen, Xander Berkeley, Kasi Lemmons and Tony Todd in the title role. No details, writer or director are attached as of yet, but early discussions are that the new Candyman may be caucasian!? The race of the Candyman was never actually disclosed in the original Clive Barker story THE FORBIDDEN, but it'd still be hard to imagine someone other then Tony Todd as that iconic character. The original film spawned 2 sequels, CANDYMAN: FAREWELL TO THE FLESH and CANDYMAN: DAY OF THE DEAD. More when we hear it!

Is Billy Bob Thornton FREDDY KRUEGER In The New NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Remake?!

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's take it easy! Several on-line publications have been running a ridiculous story that actor Billy Bob Thornton will be taking over the role of Freddy Krueger in the proposed A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake. And the rumor was started by none other then former Freddy himself, Robert Englund.

Let's look at the facts here... as much as I love Robert Englund, he's not exactly very truthful when it comes to some of his quotes. The fellow has been talking about a FREDDY VS JASON VS MICHAEL MYERS starring Jamie Lee Curtis for years now, and obviously that's a project that is never going to happen.

Also, Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form confessed at the recent San Diego Comic-Con that they haven't officially secured the rights to remake A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET yet. It's still in the works, so why would they even consider casting at this stage when there's no movie, no production... hell no script yet. (Wesley Strick was just hired to write the first draft of the script.)

So in other words, I'm calling bullshit on this story. And if we're wrong? I'll link back to this story and eat my words...

A name in only spin-off, the show centered around, "Lewis Vendredi, who made a deal with the devil to sell cursed antiques. But he broke the pact, and it cost him his soul. Now, his niece Micki, and her cousin Ryan have inherited the store. And with it, the curse. Now they must get everything back...and the real terror begins." Brett Ratner Producing MOTHER'S DAY Remake?!

Back in February of 2008, we conducted an extensive interview with TROMA president Lloyd Kaufman and he revealed that Brett Ratner was inquiring about remaking a Troma film. (Our original article HERE!) Most people called BS on our post and Kaufman's comments. But low and behold, Ratner is in the process of securing the remake rights to MOTHER'S DAY, based on the 1980 Charlie Kaufman film.

Here's a bit from the SHOCK website on the status: "The redux - about two maniacs living with their mother and the three women who tread onto this deviant family's property - is currently in the scripting stage with P2's Franck Khalfoun. Apparently, Ratner is a huge fan of the original film."

New Book On David Cronenberg's VIDEODROME!

Later this month, Centipede Press is planning on releasing a 160 page full color book on the making-of David Cronenberg's classic film VIDEODROME! (Starring James Woods and Deborah Harry) From Tim Lucas, creator of The Video Watchdog, here's the synopsis from the website:

"Although Tim Lucas wrote the definitive study of Videodrome 25 years ago, his efforts languished, looking for a publisher. Coming in August 2008, the first publication of this book kicks off the Studies in the Horror Film series. Filled with film stills, behind the scenes photographs, and exclusive interviews with cast and crew, this is the finest book on Videodrome, one of David Cronenberg's most challenging works."

Did Dunstan and Melton Work On Alex Aja's PIRANHA 3D?!

Filmmaker Alexandre Aja is currently promoting the release of his latest flick MIRRORS, (due out Friday August 15th and starring Kiefer Sutherland, Amy Smart and Paula Patton) before jumping right onto his next feature, a remake of PIRANHA in 3D! Recent rumors came out that screenwriting duo Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (FEAST, SAW IV, V & VI and the upcoming HELLRAISER remake) were brought on board to write a draft. This came as peculiar news considering Aja and his writing partner Grégory Levasseur always write their own scripts, including HIGH TENSION, THE HILLS HAVE EYES and P2. Melton clarified their involvement with Shock Till You Drop:

He tells SHOCK, "We were hired about a month ago for a two-week production polish. I wouldn't even classify it as a rewrite, we we're simply brought in to help out on a few plot points and character details. Nothing big. Those two weeks have come and gone, and now the the project is barreling towards production at the end of September. Alex and Greg have a great vision for this, and it should be a wild, wild ride."

Loosely based on the original PIRANHA directed by Joe Dante, Aja's version will be shot in 3D and is due out sometime next year! More when we hear it!

Update On Sci-Fi Channel's CHILDREN OF THE CORN Remake!

The QC Times posted an article about the upcoming shoot for the CHILDREN OF THE CORN remake. "A remake of the 1983 horror movie “Children of the Corn” will invade the Quad-Cities next month." The article continues, "Shooting will take place most of September for the movie, based on a Stephen King novella, that will debut on cable television’s Sci-Fi Channel next year in the United States and be distributed in theaters around Europe. (Rumor has it Anchor Bay Entertainment will handle the eventual US DVD release) The remake is being written, directed and produced by Donald Borchers, a producer on the original movie, which was filmed in the Sioux City, Iowa, area and spawned numerous sequels."

Some quotes from the article by Borchers:

"I went to him and asked him if there was any part of Iowa that was active in filmmaking, and he highly recommended that we go to Davenport. We are still scouting throughout the Quad-Cities and the countryside beyond, obviously, since it’s ‘Children of the Corn.’ My needs are quite simple. I need corn. And I understand you have that throughout the state."

Borchers said “Children of the Corn” was one of the few adaptations of King’s material that the prolific author himself publicly criticized. The script was rewritten from King’s original work to give it a happy ending and add two of what Borchers called “Disney-esque characters,” named Jacob and Sarah, as narrators. “They put a lot of sugar, if you will, into the coffee,” he said. “Stephen King doesn’t take his coffee with sugar.” The success of movies such as “Saw” and “The Blair Witch Project” showed “it’s no longer requisite to have a happy ending,” he added. “We wanted to stay faithful to the decisions in his original story.”

Shooting is scheduled to take place Sept. 3-30.

Update On Joe Hill's HEART SHAPED BOX Movie; LOCKE & KEY!

FANGORIA recently chatted with author Joe Hill and he revealed that director Neil Jordon (INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE) is no longer attached to Warners movie version of his novel HEART SHAPED BOX. "My understanding is that Jordan wrote a really great script, but then he was asked to do revisions and then there was the writers’ strike. I know they’ve done another rewrite [since], and I couldn’t tell you whether it was Jordan who did it or someone else. But that one continues to be developed."

Hill also revealed that his recent comic book LOCKE & KEY (which is really, really good if you get a chance to read it) has been expanded from it's 6 issue limited series to a 24 issue run beginning in early 2009. Plus, a television series version is also being devloped! He tells FANGO, "The Weinstein Company got interested in LOCKE & KEY and bought it, and it was widely reported that they had bought it to adapt for a film. But they actually purchased it for TV. The plan right now is to do an HBO kind of thing—a mature, somewhat enclosed story that would be 12 episodes, but open-ended enough that they could go back and do another season. Frank Darabont [THE MIST] is going to write the pilot and hopefully direct it."

(From the FANGO article) LOCKE & KEY follows a woman and her three children who move into an old family house in Lovecraft, Massachusetts after their husband and father is murdered. There, one of the children discovers a set of keys that opens doors onto, as Hill puts it, “the impossible.”

TOM HOLLAND Behind New Horror Web-Series “5 OR DIE” On Strike TV!

At the beginning of August, several of the major horror web publications all received a mysterious video spot hinting at something called “5 OR DIE”. It turns out that “5 OR DIE” is actually the new short film from writer/director Tom Holland, which debuts exclusively on-line at the STRIKE TV website this September. STRIKE.TV is the new internet platform for Hollywood talent that was created during the Writer’s Guild Strike. Holland says the purpose is to give professionals a creative outlet other than the studios and networks.

Holland is no stranger to the horror genre, having penned the screenplays for PSYCHO 2, THE BEAST WITHIN and later writing and directing horror classics FRIGHT NIGHT, CHILD’S PLAY and the Stephen King adaptations for THINNER and THE LANGOLIERS. “5 OR DIE” marks Holland’s grand return to the genre and introduces genre fans to a brand new killer unlike anyone you’ve ever seen cinematically thus far.

The short (shot in Studio City earlier this year) is about three high school friends who get caught in the middle of deadly chain email that instructs them to forward the letter in 5 minutes or die. As two of the friends watch the third get slashed and brutally murdered by a mysterious man in black, they desperately search for a way to protect themselves as they watch their time quickly run out.

Holland says one of the great things about the net is that there are no rules, and he intends to walk the edge in both horror and violence, hopefully falling over into the abyss of bad taste from time to time. There will be a message board on Strike.TV’s “5 OR DIE” page where fans can communicate with him and let him know if he has succeeded or not.

He hopes regardless, the show will be great fun for the fans and newcomers to the horror genre.

While STRIKE TV preps to premiere the short exclusively on their website in September, the My Space page is officially live now at: www.myspace.com/5ordie. Fans are encouraged to log in to their My Space page and add the profile to your friends list. You will have access to exclusive production stills, screen grabs and teaser trailers for “5 OR DIE”, and anyone that adds the profile will receive a code on August 18th to watch the short a full month before everyone else!

5 OR DIE was written & directed by Tom Holland and produced by Dennis DeFrehn, special effects by Vince Guastini and stars Brandon Fobbs (The Wire), Madeline Zima (Californication), James Snyder (Crybaby on Broadway) and Kevin Daniels (Their Eye were Watching God).

Review: RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP

An Icons of Fright Exclusive! The first review of the long-awaited "Return to Sleepaway Camp"!

Return to Sleepaway Camp

Return to Sleepaway Camp

It's been 5 years since principal photography completed on “Return To Sleepaway Camp” and this reviewer has to wonder why it's taken so long to get the movie out. Especially when you consider that this is a sequel that finally lives up to the rude and nasty spirit of the original “Sleepaway Camp”. Forget the mid-80's sequels, “Return To Sleepaway Camp” is THE movie us fans have been waiting for.

The sequels that hit video store shelves in '88 and '89, featuring Pamela Springsteen as Angela, were adequately goofy/gory spoofs of the cheapo slasher subgenre. They featured enough splatter and contrived continuity from the original to tide over fans for almost two decades. Still, “Sleepaway Camp” writer-director Robert Hiltzik had nothing to do with them. While they hold up as campy (no pun intended) fun they lack the seedy, sleazy, and mean-spirited tone of Hiltzik's original classic. It has always lacked a proper follow-up.

Return to Sleepaway Camp

“Return to Sleepaway Camp” picks up 20+ years later. At Camp Manabe, co-owed by Frank (Vincent Pastore of “The Sopranos”) and Ronnie (Paul DeAngelo, reprising his role as the former Camp Arawak counselor) kids are being relentlessly cruel to one of the campers. This time it's the overweight and socially awkward Alan. The counselors, and his peers, relentlessly berate him about his weight, and his slovenly appearance. He appears to never bathe or change clothes. The maladroit manner with which he interacts with the opposite sex wins him no girlfriends either. Still, unlike the shy and unassuming Angela, Alan is kind of a jerk too, bullying the younger campers as much as he gets it himself.

Return to Sleepaway Camp

Soon a series of increasingly grisly “accidents” start to happen around the camp. Ronnie immediately becomes paranoid, convinced that somehow Angela has found him. They seek out her brother Ricky (Jonathan Tiereston, also reprising his role) who assures them that Angela is locked away in mental facility. Ricky, Ronnie, Frank, the camp chef Charlie (played by the late Isaac Hayes), and a local sheriff with the worst facial hair since famous 'stash on the cop' in the original, try to figure out what's going on, and put a stop to the killings. Still, the cruel jokes continue, the body count rises, and everyone not already dead at Camp Manabe becomes a suspect. Maybe Angela is back in town?

Return to Sleepaway Camp

“Return To Sleepaway Camp” has it's share of gruesome and violent death scenes, including one great homage to the original featuring an industrial strength deep-fryer instead of a pot of boiling water. However, most of the gore is left to the imagination, and we're usually treated to just the nasty after-effects of the murders. One of the reasons “Return To Sleepaway Camp” was rumored to have been held up was the need to complete some CGI special effects. We're not sure where these supposed CGI effects are. Most of the death scenes are done practically, with makeup effects. There's a cheap looking CGI title sequence, and one death involving fire that may have required CG, but that's it.

Like the original, but unusual for the genre, the kids in the movie are the played by actors of the appropriate age. There are no 30 year old women playing teenager girls in this movie. It's weird to watch Disney Channel-esque actors in a slasher film. With all the violence and foul language it's like watching a bunch of 14 year olds reenact a John Waters movie. It's just not something you ever got comfortable with in the original and the effect holds up here. The young cast, and their sometimes stilted and clumsy performances, give the film that loud, hysterical, crass feel of the first and lend to it a strangely trashy edge. You know what? I'll take trashy over safe and politically correct in my slasher sequels anytime.

There are a few problems with “Return” that hopefully the filmmakers have some time to fix. The pre-release cut Icons of Fright saw features a lackluster score and often amateurish editing. Be honest with yourself though: The original “Sleepaway Camp” is a fun 80's slasher movie (which this one really captures the spirit of) but it's not an amazing example of fine or remarkable filmmaking. Still, the original score made it much more cinematic and theatrical than this one comes across. Without that vintage-style score this sequel feels cheap. The pedestrian editing, featuring long fade-ins and outs between scenes, hurts the pace of the movie. Both these elements leave the film feeling somewhat unfinished, and after 5 years that's unacceptable. Also, considering the pedigree of this film the ending is somewhat anti-climactic.

Still, it's hard not to recommend the film, especially to any fan that's been waiting for a true follow-up. It's got everything you're going to want from a “Sleepaway Camp” sequel: A bunch of obnoxious, nasty, rude camp-goers getting burned, skinned, crushed, and eaten alive in a movie that's only a few half-shirts and denim shorts from looking like it's 1983 all over again.

Return to Sleepaway Camp

According to several reports, including Bloody-Disgusting and FANGORIA, Natalie Portman (V FOR VENDETTA, STAR WARS, THE PROFESSIONAL) will star in the upcoming remake of Dario Argento's classic film SUSPIRIA! Portman's production company Handsome Charlie Films is supposedly producing the film. (Although FANGORIA reports that Creative Artists is currently shopping the film.) Is Paramount Planning A New FRIDAY THE 13TH Boxed Set?!

Dread Central got the exclusive word that Paramount Pictures is planning on a new DVD boxed set of the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise. (They've got Part's 1 through 8!) While details are scarce, this comes as no surprise considering the new Platinum Dunes remake of FRIDAY THE 13TH hits theaters Friday, February 13th, 2009. (We imagine they will try to coincide the boxed set release with the new film)

Will this boxed set be loaded up with more features? Dread seems to think so. They report, "No word on any of the features yet, but we do know that there is a lot being planned."

Fingers crossed! Now, can we get uncut versions of all the films?! The ICONS crew were just watching FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 and we were convinced that the kills were cut short! Is it just us?! Or does anyone else notice? More when we hear it!

SAWmania Coming To NYC November 14-16th!

Do you want to play a game? Jigsaw fans rejoice! We just got the heads up that the first ever SAW-MANIA convention is taking place on November 14th through the 16th, 2008 at New York City Times Square Spotlight Live! Guests will include Jigsaw himself Tobin Bell, Betsy Russell (Jigsaw's wife Jill), Costas Mandylor (Hoffman), Mark Burg (producer on all the SAW films), Mark Rolston (SAW V), Mike Butters (Paul, the razor wire man), Kevin Greutert (editor on all the SAW films, director of the upcoming SAW VI) and many, many more! Full details are at the official website: http://www.sawmania.com/. (Or click the ad below!)

Shawnee Smith Talks SAW V, THE GRUDGE 3, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DUST TO DUST!

Actress Shawnee Smith recently spoke to POPWRAP while promoting her role on the web-series 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DUST TO DUST, which is set to premiere on FearNet later this month and she brought them up to speed on all the genre stuff she's been up to.

On why she's in the 30 DAYS OF NIGHT webseries? "The industry is going this way and you can either be at the front of the line, or the back. And with everything I do I want to be at the front of that line creating outstanding content."

On here rumored return in SAW V? "That's what I hear. I'm not sure how they keep resurrecting me, but somehow! If I'm in "Saw V," it's something I'd already filmed, but I have no idea. This is horror, you're more valuable dead than alive."

On THE GRUDGE 3? "Yeah. I went all the way to Bulgaria and rented the first two because I figured I should know what happened. I put them into the VCR and couldn't watch! I had an idea of what the villain was like - with the funky walk - and all I needed was to see it once and the next time I'm alone in bed, I won't be able to sleep. And I figured, I didn't need to see the others in order to play the character."

On first seeing THE GRUDGE ghost up close? "I figured they'd CGI her in! I didn't know they were going to paint her up and have her chase me around a hospital for hours. It was not cool. Meanwhile the girl who plays Kayako is an absolute doll and I ended up becoming good friends with her. I wasn't expecting that."

Read the entire interview on the POPWRAP website HERE. Shawnee also talks about the recently announced VH1 reality series SCREAM QUEEN, in which James Gunn will be a co-host!

BEYOND THE GRAVE Trailer, Images!

Lockheart Filmes Ltda. presents the first full trailer of the independent Brazilian horror-fantasy BEYOND THE GRAVE (aka PORTO DOS MORTOS). The preview of the feature film can be viewed at the official website www.beyondthegravemovie.com. Written and directed by Davi de Oliveira Pinheiro (who's also producing with Isidoro B. Guggiana), BEYOND THE GRAVE follows the unstoppable hunt of the vengeful cop Lockheart (Rafael Tombini) for Adam, a supernatural serial killer. The film is currently in post-production and looking for international distribution.

The storyline of BEYOND THE GRAVE follows a dark journey through the wastelands of a dystopic Brazil. In this forsaken landscape, Lockheart will join forces with a group of survivors and face his demonic nemesis and the rage of the “returners” who inhabited the world. “This is not a zombie or serial killer film, but a reaction to the recent production as well as to my own preconceptions of what the movie should be. It’s a violent and emotional experience, mixing possession, black magic, the living dead and intense doses of suspense, character work and spanking action”, believes Davi.

BEYOND THE GRAVE was shot in 22 days between the months of February and April in the city of Porto Alegre and surroundings. Locations were specifically chosen and/or adapted for the pessimistic and particular look of the world created by the first time feature director. A crew of forty people was assembled to bring his dream project to life. “BEYOND THE GRAVE is full of strong characters and cool set pieces that I have thought for a long time. It’s a real dream to be able to bring such intense images to the screen”, says Davi.

Is There A Director's Cut Of The Original PSYCHO?!

Now this is cool! A reader sent the Video Watch Dog blog a link to a screen-by-screen comparison of Alfred Hitchcock's classic film PSYCHO to the German television broadcast of PSYCHO and discovered that it featured several frames of never-before-seen footage! This is the pre-US edit that no one knew existed! Click HERE to see the extra shots (which include Janet Leigh near-nudity, bloodier hands on Anthony Perkins and a slightly longer murder of Martin Balsam's character Arbogast), or click any of the teaser images below! Will Universal wise up and search for this alternate version to their long lost classic? Doubtful, but we can hope!

Lloyd Kaufman Talks TOXIC AVENGER 5!?!

FANGORIA recently had a chat with TROMA president Lloyd Kaufman and the filmmaker revealed plans to do yet another sequel to everyone's favorite superhero from New Jersey, THE TOXIC AVENGERKaufman told FANGO all about THE TOXIC AVENGER 5:

"Unlike Superman, who never seems to age, Toxie gets older with each movie. In THE TOXIC AVENGER PARTs II-IV, he has gotten married and had children. Now he’ll have to deal with his wife’s menopause, his erectile dysfunction—which is a constant erection—and his rebellious kid. We’re on to the next generation, like STAR TREK. We’ll see a little of Toxie’s twins in kindergarten, and then as teenagers. The son is rebellious, while the daughter is ultra-politically correct. We’ll show her going through puberty, which should be the most colorful monthly cycle ever put on film! We want to focus on the father/child relationship, and the generation gap. There is also a villain who wants to rename Tromaville Scheisseville, and FANGORIA and other independent media will be prominently featured!”

THE LOST BOYS... 3?!

Ouch! The word on THE LOST BOYS 2: THE TRIBE has not been good! But despite the negative buzz, is Warner's really debating a LOST BOYS 3? According to Moviehole they are! And if this report is accurate, then it'll be the sequel we all wanted to see. One that actually has both Frog Brothers (played by Corey Feldman AND Jason Newlander) as well as Corey Haim's character Sam. (Although if THIS video isn't truly staged, then they're in trouble!)

Haim only appears after the credits in LOST BOYS 2, while Newlander only pops up on the DVD's deleted alternate ending! So, a new film with these 3 is a good start for redemption with the fans.

Moviehole's Clint says, "I've spoken to one of the chaps involved in the movie since its DVD debut last week and he promises me that there will definitely be more Sam and Alan in "Lost Boys 3". Feldman, Haim and Newlander will be the stars of the next chapter." More when we hear it!

Director McG Talks TERMINATOR: SALVATION!

Aint It Cool's Quint conducted a fantastic interview with director McG (CHARLIE'S ANGELS) at the recent San Diego Comic-Con to talk about his plans for the revamped TERMINATOR franchise. TERMINATOR: SALVATION stars Christian Bale (as John Conner), Anton Yelchin (as Kyle Reese), Sam Worthington, Common, Bryce Dallas Howard and Helena Bonham Carter. It opens May of 2009. Here are some choice quotes from the original interview!

On the altered future hinted at in the TERMINATOR: SALVATION teaser trailer: "Things have changed and the future that his mother has told him about is not the future that he is presented with today and that is in the spirit that the future is indeed malleable, which was established very cleanly in the first and second picture, so yeah we just wanted to create a world that was credible and felt properly post apocalyptic."

On fan's hesitation to him as the director: "I have talked before about how you have to be Spicoli before you can become Sean Penn and you have to be on HAPPY DAYS before you become Ron Howard and on and on and on. You have to be on 21 JUMP STREET before you become Depp and do what you do and show people what your true colors really are and I’m willing to pay my dues and keep my nose to the grindstone, but the McG of yesterday is dead."

"I’m just looking forward to making this picture that poses ethical challenges to the audience without being preachy, but in the spirit of the first MATRIX picture or BLADE RUNNER, where yeah it was enjoyable on a “Let’s watch it level and then you and I can go spend four years in a graduate class talking about it.”"

On the CG work of Charlie Gibson: "I think that Charlie Gibson is going to bring the machines to life in a way that you would never imagine. We have machines on the scale of TRANSFORMERS, you know what I mean, but they look like they Giger machines from ALIEN and I think that can be incredible if done properly, it’s just too early to talk about it, because we haven’t rendered all of that stuff yet, but Charlie is a pretty capable guy and we will see what he comes with."

On the rumored PG-13 rating: "There are two people in this world that care about the rating, Jeff Robinoff, who was sitting in the front row who runs Warner Brothers and Jeff Blake, who was sitting in the front row, who runs Sony. Sony is releasing the picture internationally, Jeff’s releasing it domestically and both of them are like “Let the rating be what the rating is."

"Having said that, I’m not going to back off the notion of “Should it be PG-13?” Who gives a shit? I thought THE DARK KNIGHT was made without compromise. It got a PG 13 rating. If there were more gore or more horror to some respect, I don’t know if the picture would be more desirable to me and you. I thought it was a master work and I walk away"

Aint It Cool Talks FRIDAY THE 13TH!

Aint It Cool News scored some killer interviews with producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, as well as the new Jason Voorhees Derek Mears to talk all about the new FRIDAY THE 13TH! These interviews were conducted shortly after the teaser footage was debuted for the Comic-Con audience to much fan-boy approval. Here's some choice quotes from the articles:

Brad Fuller: What made the movie interesting for us to make is that Jason Voorhees is one of the most iconic killers to ever be put on film. And what made him interesting is that he's methodical and unstoppable. Having said that, anything that goes away from that and makes it feel unrealistic... we wanted to move as far away from that as possible. For us, this is a guy who lives in the forest and eats what he kills. He's in shape because he lives in the forest; he's not lumbering around because he has to trap. That, to us, made him a more effective killer. So in our movie, as you saw from the piece we showed today... Jason is fast. He runs fast. He's athletic. He can move.

Derek Mears: What's interesting about the kills in this film is that they derive from the character. They're intelligent. He'll actually set people up, rather than... "Wow, there's a giant sandpaper machine in the middle of the woods! I wonder if I'll see that again!" In our film, it's things that you just kind of pass by, and then you're like, "Holy shit! He put that there on purpose because... and now he's going to... Ohhhhhh!!!" As a fan, that's what I got from reading the script. It really plays on the horror fan's intelligence, rather than have a guy walking around and slash! Where's the next guy? Hiding in the closet? Slash! You actually see the method and thought process of what's going on. You set people up. I really dig that.

Brad Fuller: For us, it was just about making him as scary and imposing as possible. It was about making sure that we had the mask right and the machete right. Also, that there was a variety in the amount of kills: how we do them, how much blood there is, and making sure that they're not repetitive.

The new FRIDAY THE 13TH directed by Marcus Nispel and written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift (FREDDY VS JASON) stars Jared Padalecki (SUPERNATURAL), Derek Mears (HILLS HAVE EYES 2), Amanda Righetti, Danielle Panabaker, Travis Van Winkle, Aaron Yoo, Adam Finberg, Nick Mennell (ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN), Jonathan Sadowski, Nana Visitor, Arlen Escarpeta, Ryan Hansen, Richard Burgi, Julianna Guill and Willa Ford. THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN Out Now! But... Where?

THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN opened theatrically from LIONSGATE this past Friday August 1st... and we're willing to bet you didn't hear anything about it. In fact, if you search Moviefone.com or sites like Fandango, you might be able to find it playing at one of your local dollar theaters. Yes, THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN (based on Clive Barker's legendary story from his classic BOOKS OF BLOOD novels) has been dumped by LIONSGATE into dollar theaters with no advertising or marketing to let you, the fans know about it. And believe it or not, its not because it's a bad movie, it's actually really quite good. Its because of personal politics within the studio system.

Honestly? We're not much here at ICONS for studio politics. We just love horror movies so much and try our best to talk about the ones that warrant the publicity. THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN is one of those movies that we fully support and that we feel deserved far better treatment then LIONSGATE gave it. (Remember, this is the studio that was build on the success of the SAW franchise, horror movies no less which the company now has contempt for.)

The other horror sites have interesting editorials on the full story behind this unforgivable debacle. Click HERE to read Bloody-Disgusting's take on the whole thing. (They'll have a follow-up piece on their website tomorrow with quotes from everyone involved, including Barker)

Personally, I loved this article that Ryan Rotten over at Shock Till You Drop wrote which explains the whole thing. Read SHOCK's post about THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN HERE.

Despite the fumbling of this movies release by LIONSGATE, we still would like to give proper credit to director Ryuhei Kitamura for truly delivering a quality movie based on a classic Barker tale. And we hope that you'll support it upon it's eventual DVD release. In the meantime, read our FIRST LOOK REVIEW by clicking the image below...

John Carpenter Back With SCARED STRAIGHT! With... Nicholas Cage?!

After years of being attached to several projects, it looks like John Carpenter is back with SCARED STRAIGHT, a new prison movie that may star Nicholas Cage!? According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Nicolas Cage and director John Carpenter are in final negotiations to team up for a prison thriller titled "Scared Straight."

"Straight" follows a troubled youth who's sent to prison off the Scared Straight crime-prevention program, which imprisons delinquent teens for a short period in the hopes of deterring them from a life of crime. While the teen is there, a riot breaks out and the prisoners take him hostage. A lifer, played by Cage, is forced to help the young man out. Joe Gazzam wrote the original spec, which was rewritten by Ron Brinkerhoff. Noah Rosen is exec producing as is Rob Cohen, who was attached to direct at one point. An October start is being eyed.

Hopefully, with Carpenter at the helm, it won't look anything like this:
