Early word has it that a new special "Anniversary Edition" of Chucky's first movie CHILD'S PLAY will hit DVD shelves on September 9th of this year! The original CHILD'S PLAY (directed and co-written by Tom Holland) hit theaters 20 years ago and launched the "Chucky" franchise. It starred Chris Sarandon (reuniting with Holland after FRIGHT NIGHT), Catherine Hicks, Alex Vincent and Brad Dourif as serial killer Charles "Chucky" Lee Ray. No word yet on what special features the DVD will boast, but here's hoping we'll get a director's commentary from Holland? We'll keep you posted!

UPDATE: Shock Till You Drop got the following special features listings:
• Audio Commentary with TBD
• Select Scene Chucky Commentary
Evil Comes in Small Packages ("The Birth of Chucky," "Creating the Horror," "Unleashed Chucky: Building a Nightmare
A Monster Convention")
Introducing Chucky: The Making of Child's Play featurette
It's Hard Being Evil featurette
• Theatrical Trailer
• Photo Gallery

While Spooky Dan over at Bloody-Disgusting says we can expect commentaries from creator/writer Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner, a second track with FX guru Kevin Yagher, Catherine Hicks, and Alex Vincent, as well as a third track with Mancini and Chucky (Brad Dourif voicing in character).

Where's a director commentary track with Tom Holland?!?!?!
