First Look At PRANK! Trailer To Danielle Harris's MADISON!
The trailer for Danielle Harris's segment of the horror anthology film PRANK is on-line over at the PRANK official website! You can check it out right HERE! Produced and written by Anthony Masi and Thommy Hutson, PRANK is a 3 part anthology horror film, with each segment directed by a different genre vet. Danielle Harris (HALLOWEEN 4, 5), Ellie Cornell (HALLOWEEN 4, 5) and Heather Langenkamp (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET) make up the film's 3 directors.
In Harris's entry "MADISON", Dana Daurey (who plays Madison) is a young woman who, while waiting up for her boyfriend one night, comes to believe something terrible has happened to him... and may happen to her next! The segment also stars Jennifer Blanc, Shaun Benson, Kathleen Kinmont (HALLOWEEN 4), J.C. Brandy (HALLOWEEN 6), Coby McLaughlin, Edward Bell and Abby Dalton.
Check out the trailer HERE! More on PRANK when we hear it!
Last week, we reported on the new 20th Anniversary Edition DVD of Tom Holland's classic film CHILD'S PLAY. The new disc hits DVD on September 9th, along with a 20th Anniversary Edition of PUMPKINHEAD. Now, MGM has released the final special features, listed below:
- Commentary with Alex Vincent, Catherine Hicks and FX artist Kevin Yagher - Commentary with producer David Kirschner and screenwriter Don Mancini - Select Scene Chucky Commentary - Evil Comes in Small Packages ("The Birth of Chucky," "Creating the Horror," "Unleashed") - Chucky: Building a Nightmare featurette - A Monster Convention featurette - Introducing Chucky: The Making of Child's Play featurette - Theatrical Trailer - Photo Gallery
Quite frankly, I'm bummed there's no material with director Tom Holland on the disc. Why DVD producer Michelle Gold didn't ask him to take part is beyond me. It's quite obvious from the quality of the sequels that followed where a lot of the first film's success came from, but alas... I'm not a DVD producer! So what do I know? Regardless, that's the latest. We'll keep you posted when the DVD cover art arrives!
Stuart Gordon's latest film STUCK will hit DVD and Blu-Ray on October 7th via Image Entertainment according to Blu-Ray.com. The post states that STUCK will be presented in 1080p video and accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. No extras have been announced for the release at this time. But of course, we'll keep you posted. STUCK stars Mena Suvari and Stephen Rea and is loosely based on a true story. Stuart Gordon is the director of such genre classics as RE-ANIMATOR, FROM BEYOND and THE BLACK CAT. Check out the Red-Band trailer for STUCK below!
Will Scott Spiegel Write and Direct HOSTEL: PART 3?!
Consider this a rumor until it can be confirmed. But last week, the news got out that Lionsgate had begun early discussions for a HOSTEL: PART 3 and that series creator Eli Roth would not be involved. Now, Bloody-Disgusting got a tip from a reliable source that the studio is talking with series producer Scott Spiegel to write and direct HOSTEL: PART 3.
Now, for those of you who don't know, Spiegel co-wrote my all time favorite horror movie... EVIL DEAD 2: DEAD BY DAWN. He was one of the producers on 2001 MANIACS, as well as the first 2 HOSTEL films, and even had a cameo in buddy Sam Raimi'sSPIDER-MAN 2. (He's the guy on the balcony that tries to eat one of Spidey's slices.) The guy's got a long history with the genre, so even though I'm personally not interested in yet another HOSTEL sequel, I'd be curious as to his take on the material.
Another interesting tid-bit from B-D's post, they mention that HOSTEL: PART 3will in fact be a direct-to-DVD/Blu-Ray release. More when we hear it!

Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that the official title for After Dark Films upcoming sequel BUTTERFLY EFFECT 3 will now be BUTTERFLY EFFECT: REVELATION. On top of that, the article also claims that After Dark Films is in final negotiations with director Anthony Leonardi the III to helm the movie. (Leonardi directed the acclaimed short film EXISTENCE)
From our previous post, the new BUTTERFLY EFFECT"centers on a young man discovers he has inherited the powers of "The Butterfly Effect" and attempts to solve the mystery of his high school girlfriend's death using his newfound ability, only to unwittingly unleash a vicious serial killer."
Rumor has it that the 8 FILMS TO DIE FOR has been pushed from November 2008 to January 2009. We'll keep you posted!
The boys over at Dread Central brought to our attention that a new trailer for William Malone's latest film, PARASOMNIA has debuted on the official website! Malone (the director of HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, as well as several episodes of FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES) has been working on the passion project for quite some time. It looks like it's just about ready to screen judging from this neat trailer! Check it out for yourself HERE at THIS link!
The synopsis (according to Dread's post) is as follows, "At its core, Parasomnia is about an art student who falls in love with a girl who’s suffering from the titular condition, which only allows her to be awake for very brief periods of time. Her hospital neighbor is a terrifying mass murdering mesmerist who has some very disturbing plans for the girl, and it’s up to the student to rescue her."
Yeah, I said it! This teaser poster kicks ass! This popped up on IMDB earlier today, but below is our first look at the poster for SAW V, which obviously implies that someone else is carrying on the work of the now-deceased Jigsaw! According to the film's official synopsis, "In the fifth installment of the SAW franchise, Hoffman is seemingly the last person alive to carry on the Jigsaw legacy. But when his secret is threatened, Hoffman must go on the hunt to eliminate all loose ends."SAW V opens October 24th, 2008 everywhere! Comment on this poster below!

No really! This is a brand new one that director Darren Lynn Bousman posted via his My Space blog last night! I'll honestly confess that I've been on the fence about this movie since the casting of Paris Hilton. However, Mike and I are huge fans of films like PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, and this new trailer definitely shows that it's going to be something wild, wacky and bizarre in that vein. (Only... gorier?) Regardless, see the brand new trailer for yourself right HERE! No release plans yet since the whole fiasco at Lionsgate recently (see MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN), but Bousman promises a great presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con in mid-July.
Writer (and fellow FANGO scribe) Axelle Carolyn debuted the front cover of her new horror book IT LIVES AGAIN! HORROR MOVIES IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM via her My Space blog, following the announcement of the books release later this fall. The book centers (as the title suggests) on the horror genre from 2000 and on and features a forward by Neil Marshall, as well as an introduction by Mick Garris. Knowing Axelle personally, there's no better authority on the subject of modern horror, so count the ICONS crew excited for this one! Check out the cover image (from THE ORPHANAGE) below! Congrats, Axelle!

My cousin just got an import copy of the Spanish flick [REC] and swears its one of the best horror films he's seen in years. (We're watching it together this weekend, so hopefully I'll agree!) Its no surprise then that Hollywood has already commissioned an American remake of [REC] since... well, the majority of you don't like reading subtitles! Jennifer Carpenter (DEXTER, THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE) and Jay Hernandez (HOSTEL) star in QUARANTINE, directed by the Dowdle Brothers (THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES) and due out in theaters October 17th, 2008! The teaser poster is below, along with 5 images from the flick. You can check out the trailer to QUARANTINE, as well as the original [REC] at THIS link!
Variety reports that Ning Hao (the director behind CRAZY STONE) will helm THE HOST 2, the sequel to the successful Korean horror film by Bong Joon-ho. THE HOST 2 will be produced by the Chungeorahm company of Korea with Stone Man Films of China and is budgeted at $12 million. "The theme involves citizens ignoring a monstrous threat due to their greed for money." The first HOST is one of the best monster movies we've seen in years, so naturally we're excited for the follow-up! Shooting for THE HOST 2 begins early 2009!

Shock Till You Drop caught up with Dark Horse Comics' Mike Richardson at last night's Saturn Awards and he gave an update on MY NAME IS BRUCE, the new film starring and directed by fan fave Bruce Campbell. He tells Shock we can expect the flick in theaters this October. "Some people maybe thought the film fell out or that there was something wrong with it. We did our shoot, put it in the can and the studio that financed it liked it so much they gave us more money to do a second shoot. We beefed it up so it could go into the theaters."Richardson also told Shock that a sequel is already in the works, titled MY NAME IS STILL BRUCE. Check out the original post HERE. Check out the first teaser trailer below!
4 NEW DVD REVIEWS! THE BURNING, DIARY OF THE DEAD, THE MONSTER CLUB, ABOMINABLE!
I know, I know. We've totally been slacking with the DVD reviews lately. Between the two massive Fangoria conventions and post-production on the PSYCHO doc, on top of bringing you new interviews every month, it's been a tough balancing act! Thankfully, we have a devoted staff of writers, and Phil Fasso has got 4 new DVD reviews for you. This month, Phil took a look at THE BURNING (the vintage "slasher" from the Weinstein Brothers), DIARY OF THE DEAD (Phil's 2nd opinion the film after the FIRST LOOK review from several months back), THE MONSTER CLUB and Ryan Shifrin's creature-feature ABOMINABLE. Click the covers below to read each! Thanks Phil!
Clive Barker's Letter To Fans: SAVE THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN!
On August 1st, 2008, Lionsgate will release the long awaited adaptation of Clive Barker's THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN... into 100 theaters across the country, before dumping it to DVD. Since Barker fans have waited a long time to see the author's legendary BOOKS OF BLOOD properly translated for the big screen, this news has been terribly dishearting. We've seen the movie. It's worthy of the name Clive Barker, and it deserves to play theatrically. Now, Barker himself is asking YOU, the fans for help. He sent the following letter to FANGORIA editor Tony Timpone to publish on Fangoria's website. From Barker himself:
"Hello my friends,
Clive Barker here. I wish I could be with you in the flesh to talk with you, but I’ve got a battle on my hands here in Los Angeles. So Tony’s kindly agreed to share this letter to you.
To be perfectly honest, I need your help: As you may know, last year I was the executive producer of a movie from one of my BOOKS OF BLOOD stories, called THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN. Ryuhei Kitamura directed it and he did a superb job. The film is scary, stylish and very violent, which is just fine by me. I’m very proud of it.
But there have been signs for a long while that Lionsgate, the company releasing the movie, was going to screw around with it. Release dates were changed and changed again. And my phone calls to the people at Lionsgate, asking for answers, were not returned.
I was finally told that Lionsgate only planned to open the movie in a tiny number of theaters—somewhere between 100 and 300—run it for a week, then put it on DVD.
In other words, they were going to dump our movie.
This has nothing to do with the quality of our picture. In fact, it is happening to a number of other movies in Lionsgate’s hands, many of which were guided into production by a great friend of horror movies, Peter Block, who left the company several months ago.
It was his exit that caused our present situation. A new man, Joe Drake, replaced Peter Block and—as happens so often in Hollywood—I believe he decided to trash all the projects Peter Block had supported.
It seems not to matter that a lot of very talented men and women sweated to create this picture—knowing that all the horror fans who see it, will love it. It’s being dumped because of company politics. Simple as that.
So…
I’m fighting back.
And I’m asking you now to fight with me.
If you want to see THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN on the big screen the way it should be seen, please contact Joe Drake at Lionsgate and tell him your feelings.
Here’s how to do it:
You can contact Joe Drake directly at jdrake@lionsgate.com or call the main switchboard at Lionsgate, which is (310) 449-9200, and ask for Joe Drake’s office. You can also get the information from my official website, which is www.clivebarker.info.
Please be polite in your protest. We don’t want to worsen the situation by making our attacks personal.
Thank you all so much for listening and thank you for supporting my books and films over the years. I promise to try to keep bringing you the best work I can do.
Finally, let me thank you in advance for helping us to get THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN running to our fans across America.
Steve Niles Comments On ROB ZOMBIE'S TYRANNOSAURUS REX
Yesterday, Rob Zombierevealed the teaser art for his next film TYRANNOSAURUS REX. A lot of fans have been commenting on the similiarites between the T-REX artwork and Zombie's comic book collaboration with Steve Niles, THE NAIL. Niles set the record straight via his My Space blog last night. Here's what he had to say:
"I've been getting a lot of calls and mail about Rob Zombie's new project, Tyrannosaurus Rex. People seem to be under the impression that Rob is doing The Nail and cutting me out. This is not true. Not only is T-Rex a different story, but also Rob is 100% owner of The Nail and is welcome to cherry pick anything he wants. It's his concept. I was just along for the ride.
There are NO issues between Rob and I. Creep might be dormant at the moment, but we are not ruling out more team-ups down the road.
I hope this clears things up.
-Steve"
There you have it.

I genuinely loved the first HOSTEL. It's great as it's own film. I liked the 2nd one, although it was an unnecessary sequel. (The opening completely diminishes the first one's ending!) Now, Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Lionsgate have begun early talks for a HOSTEL: PART III. One things confirmed, it will NOT be written or directed by Eli Roth. No word yet on if Roth will be involved in any capacity although I'd imagine he'd be a producer. Also no word on if Lionsgate is planning a theatrical release for HOSTEL 3 or a direct-to-DVD sequel. Read the original post on B-D HERE! More when we hear it!
With so much going on at the Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors in Secaucus, NJ this past weekend, it was impossible to catch everything from all of the panels! Thankfully, our fiends over at Dread Central caught some tid-bits on JEEPERS CREEPERS 3 from returning actor Ray Wise during his panel discussion! The actor sat in on the first table reading of the completed script last week and confirmed they may begin shooting the sequel as soon as January of 2009.
Dread reports, "He went on to reveal that the film will be a combination of both the first films, and that characters from both will be making appearances, albeit 23 years older."
Does this mean actress Gina Phillips is back as she hinted at in our FRIGHT exclusive interview with her a few months back? Sounds like it! Victor Salva returns as writer/director. No confirmation yet on if JEEPERS 4 will be shot back to back with Part 3 as initially rumored, but we'll keep you posted! Check out Dread's original post HERE!
Don't forget to check out our FRIGHT exclusive interview with JEEPERS CREEPERS star GINA PHILLIPS!
AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON Coming To Blu-Ray With BEWARE THE MOON Doc!
Wow! We've been following Paul Davis' documentary project BEWARE THE MOON: REMEMBERING AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON since it's inception! This past weekend at the HORRORHOUND convention in Pittsburgh, PA, Davis hosted a panel (as well as the first BEWARE THE MOON public screening) with writer/director John Landis, stars David Naughton and Griffin Dunne all in attendance. Landis announced that Universal will release a Blu-Ray version of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON sometime next year and it will include Davis' comprehensive documentary as a bonus feature! No official date has been set but we'll keep you posted! And check out the BEWARE THE MOON My Space page at: http://www.myspace.com/kesslerboy. Congrats, Paul!!!
The teaser poster for director Adam Gierasch's new film AUTOPSY has debuted on-line! Gierasch co-wrote the film with E.L. Katz and Jace Anderson (his co-writing partner on such features as Argento's MOTHER OF TEARS, Tobe Hooper's THE TOOLBOX MURDERS and MORTUARY). AUTOPSY stars Jessica Lowndes, Michael Bowen, Robert Patrick, Robert LaSardo and Jenette Goldstein. The story concerns a group of 20-somethings trapped in a hospital with a warped medical staff. Next up for the Gierasch and Anderson is an update of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS! Check out the AUTOPSY trailer HERE and the teaser poster below!
Doug Bradley (whom most genre fans recognize as Pinhead from the HELLRAISER franchise) unveiled the first episode of his new production companie's horror shorts series SPINECHILLERS at this past weekend's HORRORHOUND convention in Pittsburgh, PA. The first 17 minute episode titled THE OUTSIDER is based on the H.P. Lovecraft short story. A preview can be viewed on-line at THIS link! Bloody-Disgusting is reporting exclusively that the 2nd episode planned will be Edgar Allen Poe's THE TELL-TALE HEART, while the third episode on queue is W.W. Jacobs' THE MONKEY'S PAW.
Bradley explained the origins behind both his new production company Renegade Arts Entertainment Ltd, as well as the SPINECHILLERS series on his official website DougBradley.com. Here's his statement:
"It's time to announce The Outsider.
To begin at the beginning: Since the turn of the year, I am a director of a new production company based in Brighton, called Renegade Arts Entertainment Ltd. Renegade will to a large extent carry forward the work of Renga Media, and Tony Luke is also a director. Joining us is producer and director Alexander Finbow. Dominator X, which fell foul of the 'English Disease' (financing and production nightmares which are still unravelling) last year, is now to be taken forward by Renegade.
In the meantime, we are proceeding on a number of fronts, and we have produced what is planned to be the first in ongoing series which we're calling 'Doug Bradley's Spine Chillers' and the first of these is now available. It's H P Lovecraft's short story The Outsider. At the moment we're making it available as a download. You can check out a free preview or pay for the whole thing:
It started life as a half-baked idea from me which popped into my head while recording Mr B Gone and was essentially no more than the feeling that the 'talking book' hadn't moved forward since the days of the cassette tape and that it really should be possible to offer more in the digital age. And it sprang from that to a finished product in pretty short order. Through the good offices of Digital Deli it was recently screened at BAFTA and I was delighted by the response.
We will soon be making it available in hard copy and will present it in multiple platforms, the idea being you could play it as a DVD, mount it on your PC/iPod/phone in audio-visual form or listen to it as a good old audio book in the car on your way to work.
When Renegade's present project is finished - the video to accompany a track from Judas Priest's new album 'Nostradamus', we will commence work on the second Spine Chiller which is slated to be Edgar Allen Poe's 'The Tell Tale Heart'. If the series takes off, I hope to expand it to use other actors and contemporary and unsigned authors."
Deodato Talks CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST Sequel CANNIBALS! Bava On DEMONS Remake?!
This past weekend, Ruggero Deodato (CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST), Lamberto Bava (DEMONS 1-2) and Sergio Stivaletti took part in the first ever "Masters Of Italian Horror" panel at the Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors in Secaucus, NJ. During the discussion, Deodato was asked about the status of his proposed CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST sequel simply titled CANNIBALS (or as Deodato referred to it "CANNIBAL METROPOLITAN"). (See original post HERE!) He told the Fango audience that the script was complete and that shooting was scheduled to begin in September of this year. However, he confessed to us that the producer wanted him to change one thing from the script, and Deodato doesn't want to compromise. So, shooting won't begin until he can resolve this one discrepancy with the producer of CANNIBALS. He joked, "Hopefully... I win!"
Meanwhile, an audience member asked Lamberto Bava if anyone's asked him about remaking DEMONS yet. Bava replied that he's "sick of remake-mania" and that while no one has brought up a remake to DEMONS, if they ever did, he would NOT want to be a part of it.
Back in early 2007, there were several reports about a proposed "MASTERS OF ITALIAN HORROR" series. Not a television series however, but instead a series of 4 films, each helmed by a different Italian horror director. Umberto Lenzi, Lamberto Bava, Sergio Martino and Nicola Rondolino were all attached but then, no word since that original announcement.
This past weekend, Ruggero Deodato (CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST), Lamberto Bava (DEMONS 1-2) and Sergio Stivaletti took part in the first ever "Masters Of Italian Horror" panel at the Fangoria Weekend Of Horror's in Secaucus, NJ. During the panel discussion, the status of the 4-movie series came up, and Bava said that he still intends on producing the films.
However, helming each of the 4 movies will now be Ruggero Deodato, Lamberto Bava, Sergio Stivaletti and the Manetti Brothers (Antonio & Marco). Bava told the audience that he hopes they can bring back the sensabilities of the "80's Italian horror cinema" but modernize it. September 2008 is the proposed shooting date for the first feature, with the intent to finish it by years end. More when we hear it!
Icons Of Fright caught up with writer/director John Russo at this past weekend's FANGORIA convention and asked him for the latest on the film version of ESCAPE OF THE LIVING DEAD, which he talked about with us in last month's FRIGHT exclusive interview. "Well, you already know, we have Tony Todd, Gunnar Hansen, Amber Stevens from the show GREEK on the ABC Family Channel and Kristina Klebe cast. It looks like we have Kristina’s uncle Pierre Brice, who is one of the most famous actors in Germany & he’s going to play the part of Smokey."
"The project was at the Cannes Film Festival where we had a couple of million dollars in pre-sales from various countries, so now those deals have to be closed and our executive producer Dave Mendez and our co-producer Joe Majestic and Sam Sherman are working on US distribution and talking to several companies about that. But with the pre-sales, they feel we will get it sown up and probably be shooting by September and October of this year." Russo adds, "We really want to shoot in Pittsburgh."
To those unfamiliar with the ESCAPE OF THE LIVING DEAD, Russo wrote a screenplay for the project which he eventually adapted into a 5 issue mini series for Avatar Press. The book was so successful that it spawned 10 sequels in the comics. Considering the overwhelmingly positive response from the fans, it seemed only natural to go back to the original script and make it into the movie as Russo originally intended. When asked if any changes have been made from the original story, Russo explains, "The comic book was set in 1971 and this movie is going to be contemporary. It will be the same basic story, which is a really good story. Lots of twists and turns and great characters."
With the principal characters cast, Russo seems very excited at the prospect of working with these actors. "Well, Tony Todd was in our 1990 NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. I got along great with Tony during the making of that movie, so did Russ. So, it was a natural. I suggested Tony right away for the father. And then I met Kristina in Dallas and we got along well as friends. We seemed to be on the same wave length creatively and I think she’s a very charming person and a great addition to the movie. Amber I don’t know, but I’ve seen her in GREEK and she’s beautiful. And Gunnar, wait’ll you see what we turn him into!"
Lastly, Russo went on record to say that he's become a huge fan of Icons Of Fright! "I want to say one thing. I was not familiar with the Icons Of Fright site until Beth did the interview and you guys do such a fantastic job with that site, it’s absolutely beautiful. When Russ and I saw the interview and how you laid it out, let me shake your hand. It was very well done, the whole thing. Russ saw it and said to everyone in our movie making program that they have to see this interview, because it’s terrific."

BLOOD NIGHT Update! Will MARY HATCHET Return For A Sequel?
Several months ago, we posted a teaser trailer for an upcoming horror movie titled BLOOD NIGHT: THE LEGEND OF MARY HATCHET, which stars genre vets Danielle Harris (HALLOWEEN) and Bill Moseley (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS). (See trailer HERE!) We caught up with director Frank Sabatella at this past weekend's FANGORIA convention in Secaucus, NJ to get a status update on the project. "We just finished the 2nd rough cut and we just sent it over to audio," Sabatella tells ICONS, "so we're currently doing a little bit of sound design and cleaning up all the dialogue, then we’re going into a pretty solid polishing phase while the film is scored."
When asked how the editing process has been going, Sabatella couldn't be happier. "It’s definitely on track. It has the feel I wanted, which is being a classic slasher movie but modernized. To me, I think it portrays that exactly. The story is there, the gore is there and it’s looking really good."
Speaking of gore, BLOOD NIGHT's FX artist Jeremy B. Selenfriend is also at the table, and with plenty of left over goodies from the film's murder sequences! (See photos below) "The movie's got 26 on-screen kills," gushes Selenfriend. "I’ve known Frank for a lot of years now and a lot of it, Frank gave me the starting point and asked ‘What are your ideas? What can you do to make this more then just another death scene?’ So, some of them we got to go really, really elaborate and neat, and some of them he wrote that way to begin with. I don’t often get to put in my ideas, so this was nice. Frank and I know each other well enough that he trusted me to come up with some cool things."
As far as an official release, Sabatella tells us, "We have a pretty healthy list of distributors asking us for a final cut, so right now we’re focusing on making the (final) cut as amazing as we can. We also definitely plan on getting it out to festivals. I want to see how the audience reacts. That’s the point, right? We want to see the audience’s reactions, so the quickest & best way to do that is find a good festival, get it in there and screen it – I can’t wait to watch this with an audience and see how they react. Hopefully they like it!"
So, with the introduction of the iconic "Mary Hatchet" character, did the director set up BLOOD NIGHT to have a potential sequel? "Well, it’s a funny question because when I wrote the script, I said I will absolutely not do a sequel. I wanted it to have a definitive end. But as I’m putting it together, more and more people are asking about it. I’ve thought about it and I think if the interest was there and somebody wanted to do a sequel, I would, but I’d take the story elements in a very different direction. The character of Mary Hatchet herself is so cool that there’s so much that can be done with it. Now after having seen this movie, through the editing, although I’m very happy with it, you sometimes think ‘Man I wish I did this!’ or ‘I could’ve done this.’ So, potentially there could be another BLOOD NIGHT. There definitely could be."
Filmmaker Eric Red (screenwriter on THE HITCHER, NEAR DARK, BLUE STEEL and director on BAD MOON & BODY PARTS) took part in a panel this weekend for FANGORIA'S Secaucus, NJ convention where he previewed his latest effort 100 FEET. On stage, he re-confirmed what he told us earlier this month in our FRIGHT exclusive interview that he's returning to the vampire genre with his upcoming project NIGHTLIFE. The last time Red tackled the subject of "vampires in the real world" we got the fantastic NEAR DARK directed by Kathryn Bigelow.
He told the Fango audience that the script for NIGHTLIFE is complete and they're in the very early stages pre-production. As to the films plot, he told us in our interview that, "It’s a contemporary vampire story set in San Francisco. (Where Red plans on shooting the film.) It’s very graphic in terms of violence and sexuality. It’s about a girl who comes to San Francisco looking for her missing sister. She received a letter from her and she’s come to find her and she meets this guy who’s very handsome and charismatic and successful who was friends with her sister, and he wants to help her find her. This guy, of course is a vampire and her sister got away from him. But he turned the sister into a vampire, and she’s now trying to find a way (since he never told her how to kill vampires), to learn how to kill vampires so she can kill him. So you have one sister going together with this guy to try to find her missing sister. And then the other sister learning how to kill vampires so she can get this guy and they’re all headed on a collision course."
He screened 2 scenes at the panel from 100 FEET and told audiences that they are very close to finalizing a distribution deal and he hopes the film will go theatrical later this year.

HELLRAISER 2: HELLBOUND Special Edition In The Works! PUMPKINHEAD DVD Update!
Our good fiend Uncle Creepy over at Dread Central recently conducted an interview with Michael Felsher, the man behind Red Shirt Pictures, the company that's produced the bonus materials for recent genre releases such as THE MONSTER SQUAD, DIARY OF THE DEAD and HELLRAISER. Felsher revealed that a new special edition of HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER 2 is in the works! He tells Dread, "I’m doing interviews with the Cenobites, the other Cenobites, cause Doug has his own piece, and we’re hoping to get an interview with one actress who has never been interviewed about the film to date. I won’t say whom, but our fingers are crossed..." Anchor Bay is tentatively planning a release later this year, however Felsher says, "They may wait to see what’s going on with the Hellraiser remake first" (Which is due out in 2009)
Also on Red Shirt's slate is the supplemental material for a new Special Edition of PUMPKINHEAD! (which he first reported about HERE) "We have a widescreen transfer, we’re doing a commentary with some of the effects guys and the screenwriter, and we have a lot of featurettes that go into the making of the film."Tom Woodruff, who played PUMPKINHEAD in the original is also supplying the documentarians with old VHS behind-the-scenes footage! So, it sounds like we've got a special DVD to look forward to!

Is Ali Lohan Going To Nilbog? TROLL Remake Update!
It was announced late last year that FX guru John Carl Buechler was planning a big-budget remake of one of his own directorial efforts, TROLL. While most of the time, I sigh at the announcement of another remake, this one sounds OK. Buechler himself is involved and the film (with an estimated budget of $25 million) is going to be independently financed. So, if the director wants to redo one of his own films 20 year later and improve upon it, I'm all for it!
Today, word came in via E! News that Lidsay Lohan's little sister Ali Lohan auditioned Eunice St. Clair, who helps Harry Potter Jr. (Yep, TROLL has that character first) fight the evil Torok the Troll. According to the article Buechler told E! "She was great. The camera loves her. She's a really good actress...I am personally going to fight for her." Also attached is Noah Hathaway. More when we hear it!

NOBODY LOVES ALICE
Delusions, Dysfunction and Devastation Reign as Alice Wreaks Havoc in the Horrifying Feature Directorial Debut from Roger A. Scheck Coming to DVD June 24, 2008 from Indie-Pictures, LLC
LOS ANGELES – MARCH 11, 2008 All Alice has ever wanted was the love she never had. Now that she is all grown up, she will do anything to get it – lie, kidnap, torture, or kill. Todd Taylor, CEO of Indie-Pictures, announces the June 24, 2008, DVD release of NOBODY LOVES ALICE, a horrifying journey into the world of woman who has a terrible penchant for destroying those who disappoint her, written and directed by newcomer Roger A. Scheck.
Alice (NITZAN MAGER) is a beautiful woman whose good looks hide an endurably lonely childhood in a series of foster homes. Also hidden is an insane – and murderous – desire for fairy tale love. Whoever withholds it from her is brutally punished with Alice’s own brand of brutal torture. It is the bad luck of her co-worker Abigail (AMANDA TAYLOR) and her fiancé Alex (PHILLIP WARD) to find out too late why NOBODY LOVES ALICE, as they become her next prey. Now Abigail must try to get into Alice’s twisted world to try to find and save the man she loves – or what’s left of him – before it’s too late.
NOBODY LOVES ALICE is a recent acquisition by Indie-pictures, a group organized to help independent movies get the distribution they deserve. This is the first feature film for director Roger A. Scheck, a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, School of Filmmaking. NOBODY LOVES ALICE was filmed on location in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
NOBODY LOVES ALICE hits the stores on Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Ready for another LEPRECHAUN movie? Nah. How 'bout TRILOQUIST!
So, is everyone ready for another LEPRECHAUN movie? Me neither. However, from the same twisted minds that created the green little monsters anthology comes forth a new horror comedy called TRILOQUIST! Our July 1st, 2008!
“In a seedy Hollywood motel, a down-and-out ventriloquist overdoses in front of her son and daughter, scarring them for life. Eighteen years later, the son, who has not spoken a word since his mother’s suicide, and daughter, depart on a road trip to Las Vegas. Still haunted by their childhood memories, they are unable to fulfill their mother’s dying wishes to uphold the family bloodline and become great ventriloquists. Entranced by the dummy’s commands, the long journey plunges them further and further into darkness as they begin a murderous rampage across the desert.
Campy thriller, TRILOQUIST debuts its act on DVD July 1st under the Dimension Extreme label from Genius Products and The Weinstein Company. From writer-director Mark Jones (Leprechaun, Rumplestiltskin) and starring teen up-and-comers Rocky Marquette (Bondage), Payden LoPachin (House At The End Of The Drive) and Katie Chonacas (Slingshot), TRILOQUIST follows a psychotic brother and sister who hit the road to Las Vegas with their ventriloquist dummy that seems to have a mind of its own.” - Dimension Extreme
With the recent news that Lionsgate plans on "dumping" THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN onto 100 screens on August 1st in order to rush a DVD release, fans have started campaigning for a proper theatrical release, which the film deserves! Clive Barker (the writer of the original story from which the movie is based) has thrown his own endorsement for this campaign.
From the Clive Barker Revelations website: "It has become apparent that the theatrical distribution of The Midnight Meat Train has been curtailed, with reports that the movie may be seen on only 100 screens. Word has come to us that the substantial excitement surrounding the movie has now developed into an active campaign by movie-lovers for its full theatrical release. Clive is throwing his support behind the growing movement. He is asking all who would like to see the movie get the wide distribution that many people believe it deserves to add their voice..."
Clive's statement, "I am very excited about this possibility and I would passionately encourage everybody who cares about my work to use this chance to change the minds of the folks at Lionsgate. This is exciting! I really think, this late in the day, that grassroots support for our movie could significantly improve our chances of reaching a much bigger audience theatrically. The picture is worth the effort, I believe."
Details on how you can help are below! (Send emails, messages, post bulletins & blogs, make phone calls! All the details on HOW are below!!!)
Read our FIRST LOOK review of the flick by clicking either image below!
WE NEED TO START A VIRAL CAMPAIGN TO GET "MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN" A WIDER RELEASE!!!
A very reliable SOURCE from Lionsgate has told me that the Lionsgate decision to "dump" Midnight Meat Train in as few screens as they are contractually required and then rush the film to DVD is based purely on INTERNAL POLITICS.
The new head honcho doesn't like the old head honcho and is deliberately "dumping" all of his films out of spite and malice.
But there is HOPE! The only thing that overrides backstabbing politics in Hollywood is PURE GREED. It is clearly not healthy for investor relations to "dump" a movie that has a vocal and dedicated audience. Midnight Meat Train represents the kind of horror film that audiences have been dying for!!!
There is growing internal pressure within the company for a wider release of this film and PUBLIC FAN PRESSURE may help to push this decision over the edge.
If you wish to see MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN in all its big screen glory at a THEATER near you, please do the following:
Cut and paste the message at the bottom of this post and e-mail it to:
3) call the main office at (310) 449-9200 and express your desire to see MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN get the release it deserves.
BE POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL! We don't want to piss them off, just want them to know how many fans out there would like to shell out their hard earned cash to see the most groundbreaking horror film of the past ten years in a real movie theater!
WE'VE WAITED TO LONG FOR THIS MOVIE TO LET IT GO STRAIGHT TO DVD!!!
Post this message everywhere, send it to your horror friends and spread the word! We need to act FAST to have an effect!!!
And LONG LIVE THE MEAT!!!
*******
E-mail message (or feel free to compose your own):
Dear Lionsgate,
As a long time Clive Barker fan, I am writing you to express my strong desire to see "The Midnight Meat Train" on the big screen.
Rumors are currently circulating that the film will only be released on a limited basis and I am very concerned that I will miss my opportunity to see the most highly anticipated Clive Barker film in over a decade in all of its big screen glory!
There are millions of horror fans like myself who have been disappointed by the recent trend towards watered down PG-13 horror movies. Clive's work represents a return to serious, thought provoking horror movies and with Ryuhei Kitamura at the helm, I am even more excited to experience this collaboration as it was intended: in a packed theater with hundreds of other horror fans like myself!
I urge you to please give this film the release it deserves!

An article on EMPIRE reveals that all the actresses from the first DESCENT film are returning for THE DESCENT 2?! How, you're wondering? Flashbacks, of course. Shauna MacDonald and Natalie Mendoza were among the first cast members announced for the sequel, but now the article confirms that MyAnna Buring (Sam), Alex Reid (Beth), Saskia Mulder (Rebecca) and Nora-Jane Noone (Holly) are all back in brief appearances.
Buring told EMPIRE, "I don't know if I'm supposed to tell you this, but we'll all appear in flashbacks. We had that video camera in the first film, remember, so [it's footage from that]. It was last week that we all rocked up on set in Ealing Studios and they'd mocked up these sets that looked like where we'd shot in the first film...so I went back to being Sam for a day".
(Spoiler) The question on everyone's mind is exactly which ending is this new movie picking up from? Both the UK and American cut of the film have different conclusions. Burin continues, "We pick up from the American ending [where Sarah survives]. So Sarah is very much back and we see her going back and her journey again. I have to say, I think it looks awesome. Jon Harris, who's directing is doing an amazing job."
THE DESCENT 2's director Jon Harris served as the editor on the first film. Neil Marshall is exec producing.

THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN Gets "Limited" Theatrical Release...
Well... with all the date changes, we knew this was coming. Shock Till You Drop is reporting exclusively that THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN will hit 100 theaters across the country on August 1st. The film based on Clive Barker's BOOKS OF BLOOD story and directed by Ryuhei Kitamura stars Bradley Cooper, Brooke Shields, Vinnie Jones and Leslie Bibb. The article says that this "fulfills Lionsgate's contractual obligation with production entity Lakeshore to give it some sort of theatrical run. The plan is to subsequently release Meat Train quickly down the line for a DVD release." Our guess is they just want to get it out on DVD by Halloween.
This is a terrible shame considering (as I stated in my review) this is the first thing in over a decade worthy of carrying the name Clive Barker on it. Read our favorable FIRST LOOK review below. Here's hoping it reaches a theater near you.
An article on The Hollywood Reporter has announced the cast for THE HILLS RUN RED, which is currently shooting in Sofia, Bulgaria with director Dave Parker at the helm! Sophie Monk, Tad Hilgenbrinck (LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE), William Sadler (THE MIST, "Death" in BILL & TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY!), Alex Wyndham and Janet Montgomery all star in the Dark Castle Home Entertainment and Warner Premiere production. Scripted by David J. Schow (THE CROW) and John Dumbrow, the story centers on a film fanatic whose obsession with finding a complete print of an infamous slasher movie leads him and two friends into the backwoods where the film was shot. They realize too late that filming never ended -- and now they must survive a nightmarish onslaught or become part of the movie forever.

Hickox Talks SUNDOWN: THE VAMPIRE IN RETREAT DVD; WAXWORK Remake!
FANGORIA recently caught up with director Anthony Hickox and talked about the upcoming DVD release of his somewhat "lost" video cult classic SUNDOWN: THE VAMPIRE IN RETREAT (which starred Bruce Campbell, David Carradine and Deborah Foreman). Lionsgate is releasing the DVD on September 23rd (according to DREAD CENTRAL), but Michael Felsher and his Red Shirt Pictures is providing the supplementary material. Among the disc's goodies will be a first-time-ever widescreen transfer of the film, a commentary by Hickox and cinematographer Levie Issacks, and interviews with stars Bruce Campbell and David Carradine.
When asked about a potential remake to my personal fave Hickox movie WAXWORK, he tells FANGORIA it's possible. "The guy who owns the rights to it is dying to remake it, but he doesn’t get along with one of the other producers from the original. However, I’m sure they will work something out. If they do that, it still needs to be campy—and the mummy would have to move a lot faster than it did in mine! If they do get it going, my only request is to do a cameo appearance."
Here's an idea I've had for years... (so if and when someone steals it, remember where you heard it first.) Why hasn't New Line tapped the remake rights for WAXWORK? Wouldn't it be neat to see a sequel/redux of the original WAXWORK with Freddy, Jason & Leatherface? Essentially characters that New Line has the rights to use? Just my two cents if anyone out there's readin' this! (And and bring back David Warner in the same role! ;-D)

This summer NBC is bringing anthology horror back to network television with the new series, "Fear Itself". The horror genre and television have been reasonably good to each other over the years. Horror films themselves were shown on local television early in televisions "golden age", the 1950's, and by the end of that decade anthology series like "Twilight Zone" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" were in their prime. The decades since have brought "Dark Shadows", "Thriller", "Monsters", "Freddy's Nightmares", "Tales from the Darkside", and many more. TV's even produced some feature length thrills, such as "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark", or "Dark Night of the Scarecrow" have become horror classics. To celebrate the return of anthology horror to network television Icons of Fright presents our “Top 10 Scariest TV Episodes”
1) Amazing Stories, Season 1: "Mirror, Mirror" Aired March 9, 1986
Sam Waterston ("Law & Order") plays best-selling horror author Jordan Manmouth, who unwisely dismisses the supernatural world while making a television appearance. Soon after, Jordon begins to see something sneaking up behind every time he looks into a mirror. A figure dressed in a long black coat and hat that keeps getting closer and closer to him each time he catches a glimpse of a reflective surface.
"Mirror, Mirror" was possibly, and as a lifelong horror fan I don't say this lightly, the most terrifyingly traumatic 30 minutes of my entire childhood. The figure that is gradually working it's way toward Jordon was a perfect combination of the kind of 80's horror villains I spent many nights hiding under the sheets hoping to avoid (and he's played by Tim Robbins, in a very early role). The now cliched gimmick of seeing the horrible bad guy in the mirror behind you had never been done so well before, or as well since.
The way this episode played with the viewer and cranked up such an intense amount of unbearable suspense and fear was unprecedented. It's often hard for television, with it's frequent commercial interruptions and short running time to truly sustain the kind of tension generated in this episode. Yet each scene of this little shocker is incredibly well timed, and beautifully executed it's almost as if some kind of highly regarded master director was behind this episode. It had to take someone who really understood film to take that stupid mirror trick and make it work again and again for an entire half hour but they just found this Martin Scorsese guy to direct it. He should get more work.
2) "Ghost Contact" - Sightings- Special report- Aired Feb.28, 1992
This particular episode of Sightings terrifies you because as an eight year old you're watching a show that’s saying "Here it is! Hard evidence that ghosts are real, and they can hurt you!" Shows such as Unsolved Mysteries, Sightings, and A Haunting, with their re-enactments and convincing evidence can frighten a person just as much as a high budget horror flick.
On Feb.28, 1992 Sightings aired a special report on the experiences of a woman named "Carla Moran". During the mid 1970’s, the woman claimed she was being repeatedly attacked by an entity in her home. Over thirty paranormal investigators witnessed the anomalies while conducting the investigation. One of the photographs taken at the home was even published in a photography book, naming it "The only genuine ghost photo ever captured." To this day, paranormal investigators everywhere puzzle over the video and photographic evidence captured at the "Moran" home. They even made a film about her story called "The Entity".
3) "Duel", Movie of the week directed by Steven Spielberg. Aired November 13th, 1971
An excellent adaptation of his own story by Richard Matheson. Tense, powerful direction and editing by Steven Spielberg. And a performance by Dennis Weaver that pushes paranoia to the breaking point. When a big rig starts following Weaver's protagonist on some desolate stretches of highway, he becomes prey on the road. Watching the slow burn as he falls apart makes for intense viewing. Never seeing the truck's driver adds another level of fright to the proceedings. This is filmmaking at its best.
4) "Dark Night of the Scarecrow", Movie of the Week directed by Frank De Felitta Aired October 24, 1981
Wow. What a messed up made for TV movie! Larry Drake (of Dr. Giggles & Darkman fame) stars as a retarded man, who is unjustly accused of killing his best friend, 12 year old little Marylee (Tonya Crowe). He hides out in the cornfields dressed as a scarecrow and is gunned down by a group of hick vigilantes. And it’s not until after they shoot him that they realize it’s all a big mistake and the little girl is fine. These hick bastards get away with the murder, but later end up being stalked one by one by a mysterious scarecrow seeking vengeance!
There are so many recognizable faces in this flick. Postal worker and head of the posse Otis is played by Charles Durning (When A Stranger Calls, Sharky’s Machine, Tootsie, TV's Rescue Me). Lane Smith (My Cousin Vinny) is also one of the vigilante crew and I’m sure you’ll recognize a number of the cast from dozens of movies. I know a lot of people remember catching this on TV as a kid, but I have to thank Chris Garetano for introducing me to this lost & forgotten gem. It’s not “officially” on DVD yet, but you can easily find it on line or at a convention.
5) (The first 2 hours of) Stephen King's It, ABC Miniseries directed by Tommy Lee Wallace Aired November 18th, 1990
Dude, the picture of Pennywise the Clown on the cover of the TV Guide that week was enough get me going. The first two hours of this miniseries about some kind of unstoppable, supernatural force murdering any young kids it could get it's slimy claws on in the unfortunate town of Derry, Maine. That's what I knew when I started watching this, what I didn't know was that evil force was going to manifest itself in one of the most horrifying and wickedly vicious characters in horror history (theatrical or television). Tim Curry, of all people, plays Pennywise the Clown with such a nasty, menacing manner that to this day I can't look even look at anyone in extreme makeup and not want to run and hide. What also helps to make this one of the best 120 minutes in television horror history is that there's also a group of kids, that nobody believes, fighting for their lives and the lives of their friends against this thing. It's one of the rare moments in horror cinema where everything is working perfectly. "It" also proved that despite the violence inherent in his stories, the best format for adapting Stephen King's work was the drawn out miniseries format, despite a much weaker second part of the show. (Although to be fair, the second part of the novel this is sourced from was just as weak).
6) "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street"-- Twilight Zone, Season 1. Aired October 2, 1959
When an unidentified flying object passes over Earth and the electricity in a quiet suburban neighborhood goes wonky, the residents on Maple Street start with suspicious glances at each other, thinking: Could my neighbor be an outsider? But this show isn't really about alien invasions. It's a look at the human condition, and how we can let irrational fears and prejudices turn us on our own neighbors in a heartbeat. It's a statement on the savagery we're all capable of within out hearts, and a powerful one at that.
7) "The Paul Lynde Halloween Special" Aired October 29th, 1976
Oh my goodness gracious...If you've heard every argument why the majority of 1970's pop-culture should be seal in a box and not revealed to any future generations and still aren't convinced then watch this. This'll do it for you. The irreplaceable Paul Lynde plays...well, the irreplaceable Paul Lynde in 60 minutes of freaked out, disco-inspired Halloween lovin' comedy spectacle. Highlights include a 74 year old Magaret Hamilton reprising her role as "The Wicked Witch of the West" (not be outdone, Witchiepoo also joins in too. Really!). And what 70's holiday variety special would be complete without musical numbers by Donnie and Marie, Flo Henderson, and, of course, KISS. Much like that wax paper wrapped expired salt-water taffy Old Lady Kinderman hands out to trick-or-treater's this show is utterly unfit for human consumption, and in fact it only ever aired once.
8) The New Twilight Zone (1985), season 1: "Nightcralwers" Aired October 18, 1985
'85-'86 was a great time for horror on the major networks. NBC had Spielberg on board for "Amazing Stories" and they also revived "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", Not to be outdone CBS made a valiant effort to revive "The Twilight Zone". None of these expensive to produce shows lasted more than 2 seasons, as they all, sadly, suffered from anemic ratings.
CBS's revival, much like the original, would feature 30-60 minute episodes from stories by renowned horror and fantasy writers like Bradbury, Matheson, Clarke, but also by more current writers and directors who had been influenced by the original 50's/60's run such as Stephen King, and famed genre directors such as William Friedkin. Friedkin directed one of the better episodes from this revival, "Nightcrawlers".
"Nightcrawlers" concerned a diner full of people who encounter a drifter named Price who can make objects appear with only his mind. He demonstrates this to the crowd when he make a steak "magically" appear on the grill. In grand "Twilight Zone" tradition this sort of strange and unusual ability gets the ordinary folks a little bit riled up and in a panic. He begins to tell the diners a story about his tour in Vietnam where he and his unit were endowed with these strange abilities, and how he abandoned his unit. As he's telling that the only thing he ever dreams is a recurring nightmare about his unit coming to hunt him down the sheriff knocks him out cold.
So, what happens when you've got a guy who can materialize anything with his mind, out cold, having a horrifying nightmare about war? That war starts to materialize. Soldiers, weapons, and all, and they're coming to get Price and anyone in the diner that gets in their way.
9) "And All Through the House" Tales from the Crypt- Season 1 episode 2 Aired June 10th, 1989
This episode of Tales from the Crypt wasn't the scariest, but it sticks with you because it's a Christmas themed horror story, that's actually… scary; and there aren't many of those. I'm not sure what's more disturbing in this episode, the wife killing her husband in such a merciless manner or the thought of Santa being a murderer. Although the writing of this creepy, Christmas Eve tale is credited to Fred Dekker (writer of Monster Squad and RoboCop 3), this exact same segment was actually originally portrayed in the 1972 film Tales from the Crypt, featuring Joan Collins as the lead.
On a cold, Christmas Eve, a house wife (Mary Ellen Trainor) murdered her husband by hitting him on the head with a fire poker. But while attempting to stage his death as an accident she overhears a radio bulletin stating that a homicidal, mental patient has escaped from the local hospital. The man, dressed in a Santa suit, lurks around outside her home all evening until finally breaking in. Meanwhile; the woman’s young daughter is lying awake in her bedroom, anticipating the arrival of Santa.
10) The Real-Life Exorcism Episode of "20/20". Aired April 5th, 1991
Before Barbara Walter's botox the scariest thing on this long-running and reputable ABC news magazine show was a supposed real-life exorcism. I don't remember what it was about the early 1990's but exorcism and weird spirituality seemed to be on the conscious of Americans. Or maybe "20/20" was just trying to compete with the trashy, but popular, daytime tabloid TV shows of the day such as "Hard Copy" and "Inside Edition". It wasn't a Halloween episode, coming early April, but I do remember this causing quite a stir. They spent the first half of the show talking about the reality of "evil" and the history of exorcism and then promised to show us the real thing.
So, what were we going to see? Would there be violence? Head-spinning acrobatics? Nope. Just a pudgy chick named Gina making screechy noises. Hey, we live on Long Island, New York. We can see pudgy chicks named Gina making screechy, whiny noises any day of the week: Just go to the mall and hang out around Zales. Still...it kinda made me wet my jammies a little bit. You know, from fear, of course.

Even more pictures have been added to the official Facebook group for ZONE OF THE DEAD, which we first reported on last week HERE. You can check out some recently uploaded pictures below, but hit up the Facebook group (HERE) to see even more! The synopsis is below as well:
Plot summary (written by Tokivud): In the industrial town of Pančevo a dangerous biochemical toxine becomes airborne in the middle of the night, poisoning the inhabitants. The infection spreads all over the town and it seems like the Armageddon is happening. Meanwhile, a police-escorted prisoner transport supervised by Interpol sets off to Belgrade. The route leads the transport through Pančevo, where they encounter an ecological disaster and infected people who are trying to kill them. Interpol agents Mortimer Reyes (Ken Foree) and Mina Milius (Kristina Klebe) soon realize that their only chance for escape from the zombie hordes lies in allying with the dangerous, mysterious prisoner (Emilio Roso).

Jimmy Smits Joins The Cast Of DEXTER For Season 3!
The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that actor Jimmy Smits will be joining the cast of Showtime'sDEXTER for the upcoming 3rd season, which is scheduled to premiere this fall! DEXTER (my favorite show on TV) stars Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst by day, serial killer of other killers by night. Jennifer Carpenter (THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE, QUARANTINE) plays his sister Debra. According to the article, "Smits will portray Miguel Prado, an ambitious, charismatic assistant district attorney who comes from one of Miami's most politically powerful and beloved families."
"Dexter (Michael C. Hall), a blood-spatter expert for the Miami Police Department who moonlights as a serial killer, will join forces with Prado, who has risen in the ranks because his aggressive stance against crime, in the pursuit of a murderer who affects both of their lives directly."
"Smits will be featured in 10 of the third season's 12 episodes, scheduled to premiere in the fall."
Release Date Set For Richard Kelly's THE BOX! (The Director Of DONNIE DARKO!)
Filmmaker Richard Kelly's latest film THE BOX (based on the Richard Matherson story BUTTON BUTTON), which stars Cameron Diaz, James Marsden and Frank Langella will hit theaters on March 29th, 2009 as revealed by Warner Bros. earlier today. The film is about "Norma and Arthur Lewis who are faced with a terrible dilemma when a mysterious glass box turns up at their door. If they press the button inside the box, they'll get enough money to save their ailing son, but in exchange, someone, somewhere in the world will die. When the temptation to save their beloved son becomes too much to bear, Norma pushes the button. Immediately, a gunshot rings out somewhere nearby. Consumed with guilt, Norma must do everything in her power to solve a murder she has knowingly caused."
Kelly of course was the writer and director of the cult classic DONNIE DARKO, and followed it up with SOUTHLAND TALES. Hopefully, THE BOX will be more DONNIE DARKO and less SOUTHLAND TALES or DONNIE DARKO: DIRECTOR'S CUT. Check out a few production stills below:

AMERICAN ZOMBIE
Coming to DVD July 8, 2008
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 5, 2008) – The City of Angels is in for a grave surprise when new residents come to town in American Zombie, rising up on DVD July 8, 2008 from Cinema Libre Studio. Filmmakers Grace Lee (“The Grace Lee Project”) and John Solomon (“Nonsense Man”) team up for this mockumentary about high-functioning zombies living in Los Angeles and their struggles to gain acceptance in human society. Starring Austin Basis, Suzy Nakamura, Al Vicente, Jane Edith Wilson and featuring Lee and Solomon as themselves, American Zombie ascends onto store shelves everywhere July 8, 2008 from Cinema Libre Studio, with an SRP of $24.95.
Although unquestionably a dark comedy, American Zombie unravels and expands into the realm of personal documentary and horror, providing a fresh take on the zombie movie genre. The film blurs the line between fiction and reality, incorporating verite and found footage and borrowing elements from the filmmakers’ and subjects’ own backgrounds to create a personal horror film about life in 21st century America .
American Zombie has been featured in a number of film festivals, including the Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival, SXSW, Slamdance, San Francisco Asian-American Film Festival and the VC Film Festival in Los Angeles .
Synopsis:
Despite their wildly different working styles, Grace and John manage to chronicle the hopes and dreams of four fascinating subjects: Ivan, a convenience-store clerk who longs for a career in publishing; Lisa, a florist trying to recover her lost memories; Judy, a hopeless romantic who learns to accept her true nature; and Joel, a committed political activist advocating for zombie rights. As Grace strives to get to know the zombies “on their own terms,” John is eager to uncover their darker side and rallies to get the crew permission to shoot at a three-day, zombies-only retreat called Live Dead where the documentary takes an unexpected – and dangerous – turn. What transpires there is beyond anything the filmmakers could imagine, as they are forced to re-evaluate their ideas about tolerance, identity politics and the future of the human race.

Well, Lionsgate have moved THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN yet again back into it's originally slated August 1st release slot. (It was set for July 11th up against HELLBOY 2.) Now, it's biggest competition is THE MUMMY 3, but considering that's PG kid-fare, horror fans seeking something a lot more intense have THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN to look forward to. However, rumor has it that (as of now), Lionsgate is planning a very limited release, which is a terrible shame because we've seen the movie and it's great. We'll keep you posted when we hear the official word. THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN was directed by Ryuhei Kitamura and based on the Clive Barker story from his BOOKS OF BLOOD collection. It stars Bradley Cooper, Leslie Bibb, Vinnie Jones and Brooke Shields. Check out our FIRST LOOK review by clicking the logo/image below.

Hold Onto Your Crotch! I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE Remake Announced!?!
Really?! I mean... seriously?! Variety is reporting that CineTel Films has acquired rights to remake I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, one of the most notorious and nastiest exploitation films of EVER. The remake rights were obtained from the original's writer/director/producer Meir Zarchi. The articles states, "Though the majority of CineTel's releases are straight-to-DVD titles, the company will make "Spit" for a theatrical release."
The article continues, "In the original, a woman is abducted, brutally attacked and raped and then left for dead. She survives, hunts her attackers and dispatches them in graphic ways. Critics, especially Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel, hated the film, much to Zarchi's delight.
"The more the film was attacked, the more money shot into my pocket," Zarchi said. "The two persons who contributed most to that, especially in the beginning, were Siskel and Ebert. ... I wouldn't change a frame of it, and I hope the remake is just as controversial."
(Love this part of the article) "Contemporary genre fare has become so graphically violent that the original doesn't seem as outrageous as it did 30 years ago. Hertzberg is listening to pitches from writers on how to ratchet up the shock factor."
Are they serious?! It may be 30 years later, but those long, drawn-out, mean-spirited rape scenes are still pretty horrific to sit through today. I don't care how hardcore you are!
Shawnee Smith Toplines 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DUST TO DUST Webseries!
FEARnet just announced that they'll be premiering 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DUST TO DUST, the sequel to last years popular webseries BLOOD TRAILS at the San Deigo Comic-Con in July. The shorts will then appear exclusively on their website. Even cooler is the cast filled with genre vets! SAW's Shawnee Smith toplines DUST TO DUST, with Ken Foree (the original DAWN OF THE DEAD) and Ted Raimi (THE GRUDGE, SKINNER) making appearances as well.
The story revolves around Detective Nick Maguire who has the unenviable job of tracking down his missing sister Sara, who’s come into the custody of Blood Trails protagonist George—the ex-junkie framed for murders committed by a clan of New Orleans vampires. The series is produced by FEARnet and Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Productions.
The Hollywood Reporter posted a story this morning that director Brian DePalma has signed on to helm THE BOSTON STRANGLERS, an adaptation of Susan Kelly's nonfiction book "The Boston Stranglers: The Public Conviction of Albert DeSalvo and the True Story of Eleven Shocking Murders." The screenplay was written by Alan Rosen. Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla Motion Pictures is producing.
The article continues, "De Palma similarly plumbed real-life-derived atrocities in "Casualties of War," "Redacted" and "The Black Dahlia."
The Strangler case continues to stir debate. Many question whether Albert DeSalvo -- a publicity hound who confessed to the murders and was later stabbed to death while incarcerated on unrelated charges -- was the actual killer.
The murders were the basis of a 1968 movie that starred Tony Curtis as DeSalvo and Henry Fonda as the detective pursuing him. That version was based on an earlier book by Gerold Frank. Several TV and DVD movies have been derived from the events.
RETURN Sequel? REVENGE OF THE LIVING DEAD Graphic Novel!
If you've met actor Don Calfa at any of his convention appearances, then you were probably bound to have come across on his table the treatment he had written for REVENGE OF THE LIVING DEAD, his own sequel idea to the original RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, in which he and several of the film's characters actually survive the bombing when it turns out the government drops a nuke on the wrong co-ordinates. Now, a comic book version of this story is being put together with the hopes of a distributor putting it out as a graphic novel! (Hope Devil's Due is reading this!) I'm all for it! Click the teaser image below to see some sample artwork pages!
The trailer to TRANSSIBERIAN has debuted over on Yahoo's site. While not exactly in the "horror" genre, there's a number of reasons I'm reporting on it. Firstly, it's the latest from director Brad Anderson, the filmmaker behind SESSION 9, THE MACHINIST (Great, great movie), the MASTERS OF HORROR episode SOUNDS LIKE and an upcoming episode of FEAR ITSELF. So, since he's one of the few director's out there doing radically different things on each project, I'll see anything he does.
Secondly, the stellar cast. Woody Harrelson (NATIONAL BORN KILLERS) , Emily Mortimer, Kate Mara, Eduardo Noriega (who's in 2 of my favorite foreign films THESIS and OPEN YOUR EYES) and Ben Kingsley.
Lastly, the movie looks really good! See for yourself and check out the trailer HERE!
Is TIM BURTON Directing JOHNNY DEPP's DARK SHADOWS?!
Johnny Depp's film company Infinitum-Nihil along with Graham King's GK Films and Warner Bros has been planning a new feature version of DARK SHADOWS based on the classic television series. IESB.net recently spoke with GET SMART director Peter Segal who may have let slip who's involved in this new DARK SHADOWS incarnation. Segal is currently working with writer John August on BILLY BATSON AND THE LEGEND OF SHAZAM (based on the DC comics superhero) and while talking about that project said, "August is jumping back and forth between Tim Burton's DARK SHADOWS and his SHAZAM script trying to work on both films at the same time due to a back log of work after the writers' strike earlier this year."
So, as of now, it seems that John August is writing the DARK SHADOWS script for Tim Burton to direct! Will Johnny Depp take the role of Barnabus Collins? More when we hear it!
Shock Till You Drop.com is reporting that INSIDE director's Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury are in talks to helm HALLOWEEN 2, the sequel to Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN. The duo were originally tapped by Bob Weinstein to write and direct Dimension Films new HELLRAISER flick. And after seeing the bloody mess these crazy bastards made with INSIDE, we were beyond excited at the prospect of these guys bringing Pinhead back. They eventually left the project, but according to SHOCK's article, "Weinstein has offered them an opportunity to helm HALLOWEEN 2".
The French pair are currently developing their INSIDE follow-up film SNOW, but if true, HALLOWEEN 2 could end up being next. Quite frankly, I'm excited to see what these filmmakers do next within the genre, and I'd be totally OK with them at the helm of Michael Myers next theatrical outing. More when we hear it!
