DONNIE DARKO Sequel, S. DARKO Starts Shooting THIS Month?!
This kind of came out of nowhere! In an unexpected announcement, Screen Daily is reporting that production on a sequel to the cult-classic favorite DONNIE DARKO titled S. DARKO starts shooting May 18th!
The new movie follows Daviegh Chase (THE RING), who reprises her role as younger sister Samantha Darko. She will be joined by Ed Westwick (100 FEET, SON OF RAMBOW, GOSSIP GIRLS), Briana Evigan (STEP UP 2) and Justin Chatwin (THE INVISIBLE, DRAGON BALL) in the cast. According to the article, "The story picks up seven years after the first film (and Donnie's death) when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions." Well, when your older time-traveling brother gets killed by a jet engine, I'd assume it'd do a little something to your mental state!
Chris Fisher, who previously helmed NIGHTSTALKER and RAMPAGE: THE HILLSIDE STRANGLER MURDERS will direct. Fisher said in a statement: "I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality." Producers have spoken to Richard Kelly about the project but he is not involved in any official capacity at this stage. Simon Crowe of UK distributor Velvet Octopus says, "Donnie's not in [the new film] but there are meteorites and rabbits. I think there is a new generation of cinema-goers who will be very excited to see this film." Shooting will take place in Salt Lake City, UT later in the month! We'll keep you posted when we hear more!
