FEAST 2 Details Emerge! Who's Back?!

Fangoria's website has the first report and pictures from the set of FEAST 2: SLOPPY SECONDS! FEAST director John Gulager is back and recently shot FEAST 2 back to back with FEAST 3. Who else is back?! Writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, who after the first FEAST went on to write SAW IV and SAW V and are currently scripting the new HELLRAISER remake. And the article reveals some surprising returning cast members. Here's a clip! "FEAST 2 picks up directly following the final moments of the original, with the surprisingly alive Bartender (Clu Gulager) being rescued by Biker Queen (Diane Goldner), who’s none too pleased that her twin sister Harley Mama was made into an IED in the first film. Sexy actress Jenny Wade is also back as Honey Pie. Judah Friedlander returns—despite his death in the franchise-starter—and the director explains that the comic appears “in a guilt dream Honey Pie has, because in my film the hot chick dreams about the fat guy.”

Check out more plot details as well as the first pictures from the set over on FANGORIA's report!

FRIDAY THE 13TH Documentary On The Way!

Fangoria got word that filmmakers Anthony Masi & Thommy Hutson are currently producing a documentary on the entire FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise and with the full approval of Jason Voorhee's creator Sean Cunningham. Masi was one of the producers on HALLOWEEN: 25 YEARS OF TERROR, but promises this project will be a bit different. Hutson tells Fangoria, "With HALLOWEEN, the making of the movies was often more interesting than the movies themselves, but that wasn’t the case with the FRIDAY THE 13TH films. Those productions were very cookie-cutter; they came out with seven of them in eight years. It was a formula. But with the remake of the first film about to go into production, all of a sudden there’s a renewed interest in the series." Masi adds that, rather than a straightforward behind-the-scenes recounting, the docu will “talk about things like body count, gore and the concept of Jason as a superhero. There will also be more of a narrative flow to it. We don’t want it to end up being just a bunch of talking heads.” More details as they emerge!

Hopper's Son Joins Cast of WES CRAVEN's 25/8!

Henry Lee Hopper, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps and Emily Meade are prepping to star in Wes Craven's tentatively titled horror thriller "25/8" for Rogue Pictures according to a post on The Hollywood Reporter. Hopper, the son of Dennis Hopper, will play the lead role of Bug, one of seven teens haunted by a serial killer who supposedly died when they were born 15 years earlier. The film takes place over the course of a day as the mystery of who (or what) is stalking the small-town high schoolers unfolds. This marks Hopper's professional acting debut.
More details on how Craven met Hopper at the original article HERE.

SHOCK is reporting that screamqueen Tiffany Shepis will be stepping behind the camera to direct THE DEVIL'S PIES this June! The article also states that "Pies" is being produced under Shepis, (Rolfe) Kanefsky and Esther Goodstein's Nightmare Works SKG banner. "PIES," "tells the story of two beautiful dumb blondes who get accepted into the hottest sorority on campus only to be chosen as virgin sacrifices for a demonic creature that the sorority sisters worships for their continual wealth, beauty, and power." Sounds like a blast already! The film will shoot in Tucson, AZ and there will be a casting contest called "EAT ME! I WANT TO BE A PIE!" announced shortly on the official website: www.TheDevilsPies.com.

Fangoria got word from Magnolia Pictures that THE SIGNAL will hit DVD shelves on June 10th with a 2.35:1 transfer. (Special Features still to be announced.) Since you guys missed it in theaters, we hope you'll support it on DVD! Meanwhile, the Weinstein Company and Genius Entertainment will release George A. Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD on DVD on May 20th. There's also a new edition of the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD coming out on the same day. AN AMERICAN CRIME Debuting On Showtime!

Tommy O'Haver's AN AMERICAN CRIME, starring Oscar nominee Ellen Page and Catherine Keener (and also based on the same case as Jack Ketchum's THE GIRL NEXT DOOR) will make it's debut on Showtime on May 10th, a year after it's premiere at last year's Sundance Film Festival. It will be followed by an official DVD release August 19th from First Look Media. The director had plenty to say about the film's theatrical bypass on the PROnetworks blog. Read on...

"Many seem disappointed that there will be no theatrical release—this was certainly not the original plan, after all. We had a very complicated situation with First Look. There were offers from other companies, but First Look wouldn’t sell the movie to a theatrical venue—they felt it was in their financial interest to retain DVD rights at all costs. At the same time, they did not want to spend any money on a theatrical release—even with Ellen Page’s recent Academy Award nomination! Quite simply, they felt the film’s subject matter was too dark to appeal to anyone [though] we all know better."

"Anyway, thank God Showtime stepped in! They were willing to premiere the movie without taking the DVD rights. Ultimately, I think it will be the best thing for AN AMERICAN CRIME. First of all, Showtime is quickly becoming the edgiest channel on television—these days their programming, in my opinion, surpasses that of HBO. They certainly take more chances. And they are very passionate about the film. So it feels like the right fit. More importantly, Sylvia [Likens’] story will reach a far wider audience on Showtime—certainly more than if we had a typical indie theatrical release. With Showtime’s support, the movie’s premiere will become a real event."

The Eye 3

The third film in the successful film franchise from the renowned Pang Brothers (Infernal Affairs), The Eye 3 has been called "one of the best Asian horror flicks this year" (Slasherpool.com). Arriving the same month as the American remake of the first film on DVD, The Eye starring Jessica Alba, The Eye 3 DVD special features include two featurettes "Ten Ways to See Ghosts" and "The Making of The Eye 3."

Some believe that our world is one of many, that our existence is merely an intersection between countless dimensions - known and unknown. We run into strangers we don't see, hum tunes we don't hear. Most of us remain ignorant, but there are always those who are a little different. They would risk everything to find the truth and for the thrill of seeing the other side just once in their lives. In the world of psychics, despite widely different rites and practices, there exists a single mutual void - the Rite of Eight - the last and most powerful resort to make contact with the spiritual world. No one seems to know its origin, but no one doubts its authenticity, because just like any other unsolvable myth, those who go there have never returned to testify.

Pricing: DVD $26.98

Those fine fiends over at Dread Central got the chance to preview the script for one of Tim Sullivan's upcoming projects simply titled CLOWNS. Co-written with his writing partner Chris Kobin (who Sullivan co-wrote 2001 MANIACS and DRIFTWOOD with), CLOWNS "is about an ancient race of creatures who are the inspiration for modern-day clowns, though they're none to happy about it. Their goal is to track down a descendant who isn’t aware of her strange heritage". Tobe Hooper was attached at one point but is no longer going to direct. (Perhaps Sullivan will take on directing duties? There's plenty more details about the script at the original article which you can find HERE!

Yes! According to both Bloody-Disgusting and Aint It Cool News, actor Derek Mears (who's appeared in genre flicks THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2, CURSED and John Carpenter's Masters Of Horror episodes) is in final negotiations to play JASON VOORHEES in the new FRIDAY THE 13TH remake from Platinum Dunes. TEXAS CHAINSAW remake director Marcus Nispel is directing from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (FREDDY VS JASON). SUPERNATURAL's Jared Padalecki has reportedly been cast in the lead roel to square off again Jason. Should be interesting! Hope they go back to the pre-zombie version of Jason from FRIDAY's 2 through 4. He was scary as shit back then!

Masters Of Horror creator Mick Garris was a guest on FANGORIA RADIO on Friday night and revealed on the show that his next feature length film would be an adaptation of Stephen King's BAG OF BONES. Garris was at one point also attached to THIRST, a remake of the 1979 cult film, but revealed that now Joe Dante will be directing THIRST. Speaking of Stephen King adaptations, Mick Garris is still attached as a producer on FROM A BUICK 8 with Tobe Hooper attached to direct.

Variety is reporting that Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Tenney, Charles S. Dutton (ALIEN 3!), Lucas Black, Kate Walsh, Adrianne Palicki, Kevin Durand and Willa Holland will join Paul Bettany in "LEGION," the Screen Gems directorial debut of Scott Stewart. The article continues, "Scripted by Stewart and Peter Schink, the thriller casts Bettany as the archangel Michael, the only one standing between mankind and an apocalypse, after God loses faith in humanity. Just when he thinks he has hit rock bottom, things go from bad to worse for our hero. After a humiliating job interview and a nearly lethal trip to the welfare office, Dude finds himself on the doorstep of his Uncle Dave looking for a break and maybe even a job. Despite being the successful leader of the town cult, Dave is also finding himself in difficulties and hatches an insidious plan to make the world sit up and take notice of him. BUTCHERHOUSE Coming From Paramount/Platinum Dunes!

Could Platinum Dunes actually be working on an original movie for a change?! They haven't completely picked up EVERY title from my childhood just yet! (Although they're close.) SHOCK is reporting that the remake kings are teaming with Paramount to produce something called THE BUTCHERHOUSE CHRONICLES. No director is set, but the script comes from Michael Hidalgo. Here's the synopsis from SHOCK's report: "Four teenagers explore a supposedly haunted house and uncover their small town's horrible secret. After a little digging, we discovered Hidalgo's "Butcherhouse" began as a play which bowed at Arielle Tepper's 3rd Annual Summer Play Festival in New York City. Paramount subsequently snapped up the rights to the story in 2006 and asked to Hidalgo to adapt the material for the screen."

Bloody-Disgusting has gotten all the latest casting news on Robin Hardy's COWBOYS FOR CHRIST, which will be Hardy's own retake on his 1973 film "The Wicker Man". I understand this one will be free of bees, bear suits, and distant relatives of Francis Ford Coppola.

But according to B-D the cast will include Christopher Lee, Joan Collins, Graham McTavish, Paul Wesley, Susie Amy, Morgan James and Natalie Parnes. It's going to involve some Christians evangalists from Texas stumbling upon the strange world of Sir Lachlan Morrison in Scotland. Although their hosts seem receptive to their message, they will soon discover they are sadly mistaken.

ROB ZOMBIE Posts Mystery T-Rex Image?

The Incredible Mr. Z has posted an intriguing image on the MySpace page for his next project, "Tyrannosaurus Rex". The movie supposedly has nothing to do with dinosaurs but...

...here's the pic:

Tyrannosaurus Rex teaser picture

All we know so far is that "T-Rex" is the name of a biker character, and that this film is NOT based on THE NAIL comic book that Rob Zombie co-wrote with 30 DAYS OF NIGHT creator Steve Niles. Whatever it is, the release date is set for August 28th, 2009.

Uwe BollI'm not going to hate on Uwe Boll because I really think minds might change a bit on him when you see "POSTAL", and hey, at least he's making movies, the lastest of which to go into production is "JAIL", starring Edward Furlong.

The film is based on the true story of a prisoner who was raped and tortured during his incarciration. You can catch up with the good doctor on-set in a series of video interviews available at The Movie Set

TWILIGHT ZONE Episode, "DEATH SHIP", Set For Feature-Length Remake

Summit Pictures going forward with a feature-length version of TWILIGHT ZONE episode "DEATH SHIP" with writer Michael Brandt ("3:10 TO YUMA") making his directorial debut. (According to The Hollywood Reporter)

Twilight Zone

Richard Matheson
"DEATH SHIP" was one of many "TWILIGHT ZONE" episodes penned by Richard Matheson, whose works are undergoing something of a remake renaissance most succesfully with 2007's "I AM LEGEND".

"DEATH SHIP" involved a spaceship crew finding a exact duplicate of their ship crashed on a planet they have been exploring.

The feature will be titled "COUNTDOWN" and will be co-written by Derek Haas from an earlier screenplay by Stephen Gregg and Scott Burn. They are hoping to begin production this summer with a $30 million budget.

Interestingly Richard Kelly ("DONNIE DARKO") has recently completed a remake of Matheson's "BUTTON, BUTTON" episode of "TWILIGHT ZONE" (from CBS's mid-80's revival of the series) titled, "THE BOX".

FANGORIA RADIO recently spoke with author Jack Ketchum who's latest novel adaptation RED premiered at the Sundance film festival earlier this year. RED marks the third adaptation of his work, following THE LOST and THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. "I’m three for three," Ketchum told FANGO. "Like the other two films, RED doesn’t compromise, though it’s the most mainstream of the three films. I’m very happy with it. Brian Cox sat next to me at the screening, and he has been acting for 50 years. He turned to me, kind of nervous, and said, ‘It really is good, isn’t it?’ " That's right. Brian Cox is the lead in RED, which also co-stars Robert Englund, Kim Dickens, Amanda Plummer and Tom Sizemore. What I didn't know is that original director Lucky McKee (MAY, THE WOODS) left the project and was replaced by Norwegian director Trygve Allister Diesen.
“You would never know there were two directors on the film,”
Ketchum told FANGO. “It was a seamless transition.”

The article also states that MAGNOLIA PICTURES, who recently put out THE SIGNAL, SEVERANCE and THE HOST are very close to securing RED for theatrical release.

What else is on the horizon for Ketchum? Philip Nutman (who co-scripted THE GIRL NEXT DOOR's screenplay) is writing and directing a feature based on Ketchum’s THE CROSSINGS. Meanwhile, Ketchum's next novel OLD FLAMES will be out in June via publisher Leisure, followed shortly thereafter by a collection of memoirs titled BOOK OF SOULS.

If you haven't discovered Jack Ketchum's work, now's the time to catch up FRIGHT fans!

I personally recommend his collection of short stories PEACEABLE KINGDOM. Fantastic read.

LIONSGATE had May 16th, 2008 locked as the release date for THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, the new film from VERSUS director Ryuhei Kitamura based on the story by Clive Barker from his landmark BOOKS OF BLOOD novels. Now FANGORIA has learned from various sources that the release is “in flux” and no longer coming out on that May 16th date. Total bummer considering what huge Clive Barker fans we are. (And odd considering another LIONSGATE release, REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA is also looking for a new release date. What's up LIONSGATE?) THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN stars Bradley Cooper, Vinnie Jones, Brooke Shields and Leslie Bibb. We'll keep you posted when we hear an official date.

Ever since the Second Season finale of Showtime's original series DEXTER, we've been eagerly awaiting any news on the eventual DVD release. The folks over at TVShowsOnDVD.com are reporting August 19th, 2008 as the release date and they're usually right on the money. According to their article, "an early heads-up to retailers, Paramount has advised them to plan on stocking (DEXTER) on their shelves with a scheduled release date of August 19th." That's a mighty long time away, but it sounds as if they're scheduling the DVD to arrive shortly before the premiere of the 3rd Season. We'll keep you posted on when the special features and DVD cover art are revealed!

THE GROUND HOUSE Teaser Trailer!

At last weekend's MONSTER MANIA X show (see report HERE), your ICONS staffers couldn't help but be intrigued by the Horrorwood Productions table where a group of lovely ladies were handing out free coffee to thirsty horror fans in need of a quick caffeine fix. Turns out they were promoting a new horror film titled THE GROUND HOUSE, which takes place in a coffee house. Hot chicks? Free Coffee? Horror? Sounds like the perfect blend to me! If you head over to www.thegroundhouse.com, you can check out the teaser trailer that we caught over at the table. The end of the trailer states the flick is "Brewing 2008", but we'll keep you posted on an official release. Follow the link below for a sneak peek at THE GROUND HOUSE!

I'll be flat out honest. I don't get this. I mean, I like PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, but I never got into ROCKY HORROR. And anything with Paris Hilton in the cast immediately makes me uninterested. But I loved what director Darren Lynn Bousman did with the SAW sequels, so if anything, I'm curious about REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA. (Plus, POE was on the soundtrack, and I love POE.) The wonderful fiends at Arrow In The Head got the trailer for REPO! You can check it out below or at THIS link. The movie was supposed to hit theaters in late April, but we've heard it's been postponed indefinitely. What do you guys think of this trailer?!

SUPERNATURAL's Jared Padalecki is in final negotiations to star in the remake of "FRIDAY THE 13TH" due out Friday, February 13th, 2009 according to an article by The Hollywood Reporter. Besides his leading role on SUPERNATURAL as Sam Winchester, Padalecki has also appeared in genre flicks HOUSE OF WAX and CRY WOLF. Marcus Nispel is directing from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. (FREDDY VS JASON) Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing.
"Paramount released the original "Friday" in 1980, introducing horror icon Jason with a brief appearance. The remake will focus on the serial killer, who will wear his now-iconic hockey mask. Padalecki will play the lead, who investigates what happened up at Crystal Lake."

TERROR TRAIN Remake... Err... I Mean TRAIN Trailer!

Well, a trailer for TRAIN, a remake of TERROR TRAIN has made it's way onto You Tube. The flick stars Thora Birch and Derek Magyar & was written and directed by Gideon Raff. You can check the trailer out below. But... looks... more like HOSTEL on a TRAIN rather than the TERROR TRAIN that I remember...

Neil Marshall To Direct DRIVE, Then SACRILAGE!

Just a week ago, Variety was reporting that Neil Marshall would be writing and directing a new horror movie called THE SACRILAGE. Today, a new Variety piece reports that the filmmaker has just signed a deal with Universal to helm DRIVE, an adaptation of the James Sallis novel of the same name. Hugh Jackman is attached to star, and is co-producing along with Marc Platt & John Palermo. The script was written by Hossein Amini. The article explains, "In the book, the stuntman's already-exciting existence gets jolted when he discovers that a contract has been put out on his life."

"This is something I haven't done before, and I've wanted to bring a British sensibility to an L.A. shoot and a scorched classic film noir concept," Marshall told Daily Variety. "Hoss is a fantastic writer, and he's written three amazing car chases in the film. He's turned them into dramatic scenes as opposed to the usual crash, bang, wallop. I would like to be shooting it this summer."

Check out our FRIGHT exclusive interview with NEIL MARSHALL by clicking the frame below!

Marshall's latest DOOMSDAY is in theaters NOW, so go check it out with a bunch of friends. It's a fun, solid 2 hours of pure entertainment.

One week after making the trek to Dallas, TX for the FEAR FEST 2 show, we made another trip this past weekend to Cherry Hill, NJ to attend one of our favorite conventions, MONSTER MANIA for their 10th (!) show! Crowds of horror fans showed up to meet everyone from Bruce Campbell to Corey Feldman to Jason Mewes. The original TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE cast members were all on hand (including Gunnar Hansen, Edwin Neal & Marilyn Burns). The vendors and independent filmmakers were plentiful and the show overall was one of the most packed conventions we've ever been to. QUARANTINE (aka REC Remake) Starts Viral Campaign!

Several videos have started popping up on You Tube in what appears to be a viral campaign for the upcoming Screen Gems feature QUARANTINE. (Which is a remake of the Spanish film [REC]) The movie was directed by John Dowdle who helmed the similar "found-footage" flick THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES. QUARANTINE stars Jay Hernandez and Jennifer Carpenter. You can check out both viral videos for QUARANTINE below, but more importantly, I've also posted the trailer to the original Spanish movie [REC], which looks far better than this American remake version. (Sorry fiends, I'm already sick of the "found-footage" craze!)

Yes, Gina Phillips Up For "Jeepers 3"--But Here's Why She Wasn't In "Jeepers 2"

Gina Phillips recently revealed that she is in talks with Victor Salva to return to the "Jeepers Creepers" franchise, but why didn't we see Gina at all in "Jeepers Creepers 2"?  Exclusive to IOF she reveals why she didn't return and it's not what you've already heard!

Gina PhillipsIOF: Justin had done a cameo for the JEEPERS CREEPERS 2. Was it true that you were asked back to cameo in the second one as well?

Here’s what happened. There were a lot of rumors that went around about it, and I’ve heard a lot of rumors of people saying I turned it down. I didn’t really turn it down! There was a first script, an idea that had to do with my character and… it didn’t really work. It just wasn’t that frightening and everyone ended up agreeing it didn’t work. If it had been really up to par with the first one, I would’ve jumped in…

So, there was an original first draft for the 2nd JEEPERS CREEPERS that involved your character as a main character again.

Yes. Yes. And everyone, the studio, Frances (Ford Coppola), Victor (Salva) – every one agreed that it just wasn’t as strong as the first one. So then they came up with this other idea, which was a version of what the 2nd one ended up being, and my character was a cameo in it. And truthfully, the reason they decided not to do it was they originally were going to kill off my character and they decided that they didn’t want to, to leave it open for more of the franchise. To be there later on. So, that’s the true story behind it. It wasn’t that I just turned it down.

I figured it was something along those lines.

It didn’t come together in the right way. I totally would’ve done it if it was right.

Were they trying to replicate what the first one was again or did it just go in a direction that didn’t seem to make sense for your character?

Victor had a great idea, it just wasn’t scary enough. And then he went a totally different route. But they wanted to leave room to be able to come back to the Trish character. There was a cameo in the beginning (of JEEPERS CREEPERS 2) where I was brutally killed. (Laughs)

Awww, no!

And every one made the decision to take it out so there could be a JEEPERS 3.

Well, I’m really, really glad they didn’t do that. I prefer seeing a cameo from the ghost of Justin over seeing you get killed in the beginning. (Laughs) Have you seen the 2nd one?

Yeah, I have seen it! And I did like it!

While she's remaining coy about any big details, she does reconfirm with Icons of Fright that she's definitely up for and in talks for "Jeepers Creepers 3":

IOF: Well, they just announced that Victor is writing and directing JEEPERS CREEPERS 3. Do you know anything about it?

I know a lot about it.

You know a lot about it?!

Is that a hint, Gina?

(Laughs) I will leave it at that.

Well, after everything you just said, they left it open so you could come back. Interesting.

I, I am very familiar… and yes, Victor and I have been speaking, and I will just leave it at that. So, we will see what happens.

Well, I’ll keep my fingers crossed, because you and Ray Wise in the same movie together would be awesome.

Look for our complete, unedited in-depth interview with Gina Phillips in the April update of Icons of Fright!

The trailer for the new indie flick BLOOD NIGHT: THE LEGEND OF MARY HATCHET has debuted on-line! The movie was directed by Frank Sabatella from a script he co-wrote with Elke Blasi and stars genre vets Danielle Harris (HALLOWEEN) and Bill Moseley (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS). Being based out of Long Island, NY ourselves, we've always wanted to see a Mary Hatchet flick! And this one looks promising! Check out the synopsis, My Space page and trailer below!

Long Island, 1978: A young girl named Mary Mattock gruesomely murders her family with a hatchet and is locked away for life in Long Island’s notorious Kings Park Psychiatric Center. Ten years later Mary escapes from the asylum, leaving a grizzly wake of bodies and blood. Gunned down by the police, Mary meets her own demise outside the sanitarium walls. This incident gave birth to the legend of Mary Hatchet’s walking ghost and the mischievous night named in honor of her death, BLOOD NIGHT!

Stemming from the real life Long Island legend of Mary Hatchet, “Blood Night” tells the tale of a group of teenagers enjoying their annual Blood Night festivities, when they come face to face with the reality of this haunting legend. One by one the teens begin to disappear and meet their fates. As the body count rises, so do the unanswered questions about their missing friends and the secrets of Mary’s horrifying past. Is there more to this legend than the vengeful ghost of Mary Hatchet and if so who will survive to tell the terrifying tale?

Fueled by intense and energetic performances from Nate Dushku, Bill Moseley, Danielle Harris and Samantha Facchi as Mary Hatchet, audiences are in for a non-stop splatter fest filled with sex, guts, and heads that roll! Blood Night puts a neck-breaking spin on the gory and gut wrenching slasher pieces from the legendary decade of 1980’s horror!

THIRSTY Teaser Images!

At this past weekend's FEAR FEST convention in Dallas, Texas, we couldn't help but notice these cool little teaser postcards on author Joe Knetter's table for the upcoming film THIRSTY. Charlie Sheen Headlines New TWISTED Pictures Movie!

Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that actor Charlie Sheen will be the lead in an upcoming untitled Twisted Pictures movie. (The working title for the film was TORTURED) Twisted Pictures is of course the company behind the SAW films, as well as the upcoming REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA and the SCANNERS remake. According to the article, "The film is a journey of an average, loving couple, CRAIG (Sheen) and ELISE, who hit their limit after they experience the loss of their 5 -year old son to a pedophile. Once the judicial system also fails to deliver, the couple is forced to turn inside and releases the animal that lives within all civilized people." Filmmaker Rob Lieberman (FIRE IN THE SKY) is attached to direct from a script by Marek Posival. I love Charlie Sheen, so count me excited for this vengeance morality tale!

Check out more details at the original article:

Is MADMAN MARZ Coming Back?!

At this past weekend's FEAR FEST convention in Dallas, Texas, we stopped by former Icons interviewee Paul Ehlers table, the man who played "Madman Marz" in the 80's slasher cult-classic MADMAN, and we couldn't help notice an interesting item among his 8 x 10's & fantasy knives. A teaser for a new MADMAN movie. Framed on his table was an 8 x 10 photo that read "MADMAN MARZ: THE LEGEND LIVES", "He'll find the Heart of Terror and Rip it Out!" (Coming) When asked about it, Paul confirmed that yes, there is a script for a brand new MADMAN movie written by his son Jonathan Ehlers and co-scripted by Paul himself. They're using the original title for the original film, which was MADMAN MARZ: THE LEGEND LIVES and it sounds like this new MADMAN acts as both a sequel/remake. An independent company is attached and they've got a few locations locked down for a potential shoot later this year. Gary Sales, the producer on the original film was also at the table on Friday and is rumored to direct this new version. We'll keep you posted.

Check out some pictures from his table below:

Also, say hello to Paul Ehlers over at his official My Space page:

Neil Marshall's Next Is SACRILEGE!

Filmmaker Neil Marshall had hinted at his next project during his panel at this past weekend's FEAR FEST convention in Dallas, Texas. But now Variety is reporting that Marshall will write and direct SACRILEGE for Rogue Pictures. SACRILEGE is a horror film set in the Old West! Marshall explains, "It is set during the Gold Rush, a time remembered for incidents like the Donner Party. It is meant to be a pitch-black, gritty, period horror movie. This is 'Unforgiven' by way of H.P. Lovecraft, with that grim, gritty setting and a horror element nobody has seen before." Sounds AWESOME.
Considering we're big fans of DOG SOLDIERS and THE DESCENT, this sounds like a great addition to Neil's filmography. Don't forget that his latest epic DOOMSDAY opens in theaters this Friday March 14th, 2008!

You can read our FRIGHT exclusive interview with NEIL MARSHALL by clicking the frame below!

Original Variety article:

Filmmaker Will Rot recently spoke to FANGORIA about his new full length project HELTER SKELTER. Rot was one of the filmmakers featured on the BLOOD DRIVE VOLUME 2 DVD release for his short film THE JOURNAL OF EDMOND DEYERS. He also completed a second short film titled DE RIGUEUR starring Edwin Neal and Alexandria Bevilacqua last year. Rot's version of HELTER SKELTER will be radically different from former interpretations. He told Fango, "There are, of course, historical facts that remain true to the case, which is why I have to use ‘Helter Skelter’ in the title, but other facts I’ve just straight-up changed. I've found a way to shake things up a bit, and put a new spin on an old tale. The most notorious crime in American history just got a hell of a lot worse.”
According to the article, the feature is already fully financed and will shoot in the fall in "small, rundown towns between Nevada and California." Icons own Jay Alvino (Jsyn) will be handling the films FX via his company WICKED EFX. Alexandria Bevilacqua, who appeared in Rot's last short film DE RIGUEUR opposite TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE's Edwin Neal is already set to star with more cast to be announced.

Icons Of Fright were on hand for this past weekend's Fear Fest 2 convention in Dallas, TX and yours truly had the humble honor of moderating the FRIGHT NIGHT reunion panel. A few interesting tid-bits about the FRIGHT NIGHT franchise came up during the hour-long discussion. Writer/Director Tom Holland said that he still holds the rights for any FRIGHT NIGHT published material and is currently looking into re-releasing both the novelization of FRIGHT NIGHT (written by splatterpunk faves John Skipp and Craig Spector), as well as the NOW comic books, both long out of print. On top of seeing re-published versions of these FRIGHT NIGHT goodies, Holland also admitted that he is scheduled for a "luncheon" to discuss the FRIGHT NIGHT remake, which apparently has gone through 3 un-usable drafts. (From what we've heard, it sounds a lot like a remake of Tobe Hooper's FUNHOUSE rather then FRIGHT NIGHT) Perhaps the studios wisely decided to actually talk to the guy who created the original for a change? Regardless, he's also going to be pushing for a FRIGHT NIGHT Special Edition DVD at that meeting. Want to see it happen? Make some noise on the internet and let Sony Pictures know that you WANT a new Special Edition DVD of FRIGHT NIGHT!

We'll be bringing you a full convention report with more from the FRIGHT NIGHT reunion later this week!

William Ragsdale (Charlie Brewster), Tom Holland (writer/director), Chris Sarandon (Jerry Dandrige) and Jonathan Stark (Billy Cole) at the Fear Fest convention for the FRIGHT NIGHT reunion!

Dante Tomaselli's TORTURE CHAMBER?

FANGORIA is reporting that filmmaker Dante Tomaselli (SATAN'S PLAYGROUND, HORROR, DESECRATION) is putting his ambitious and long-in-production feature THE OCEAN on hold to instead press forward on his next movie, TORTURE CHAMBER. Tomaselli tells FANGO, "TORTURE CHAMBER is a nightmarish shocker in the vein of HOUSE OF WHIPCORD, HALLOWEEN and FRIDAY THE 13TH. In terms of outright fear, I want to push the envelope right off the table."
Shooting is planned for June of this year with Jack Swain (DESECRATION, HORROR) producing a script from Tomaselli and Michael Gingold. The director goes into more details about TORTURE CHAMBER's plot, as well as the status of THE OCEAN in the original article, which can be accessed here:

Justin Long Joins Sam Raimi's DRAG ME TO HELL!

A few weeks ago, actress Ellen Page had to drop out of Sam Rami's new movie, DRAG ME TO HELL. (Reportedly due to a scheduling conflict with another movie.) Her character was recast and will now be played by Alison Lohman. Variety is reporting that Justin Long (from JEEPERS CREEPERS, LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD and DODGEBALL) has also signed on to DRAG ME TO HELL. (Raimi's long overdue return to the genre!) The article says, "Raimi and his brother Ivan penned the screenplay, a morality tale about the unwitting recipient of a supernatural curse. Long will play the boyfriend of Lohman's character." Shooting is set to begin March 31 in Los Angeles.

BURBANK, CA – Dario Argento is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in modern history, a director whose work has shocked, entertained and enthralled millions the world over. The world of Dario Argento is a surreal, mysterious and mesmerizing one. There is a unique magic and power that “The Maestro” brings to everything he touches.

Now, Anchor Bay Entertainment pays tribute to the acclaimed filmmaker with The Dario Argento Box Set, a five-film collection that will be released under the prestigious Anchor Bay Collection banner on May 27th.

Following the worldwide success of his hallucinatory horror hit Suspiria, Argento returned to the genre that he helped to pioneer and which launched his international career and earned him the title of “The Italian Hitchcock.” In these acclaimed “giallo” thrillers, Argento explores the extremes of murder, insanity and brutality with the startling plot twists, stunning visuals and shocking twists that have defined his work.

The five films in this collection have been remastered from original vault elements and are presented uncut and uncensored for an all-new look at one of the most controversial and influential filmmakers in the history of modern cinema.

The Dario Argento Box Set, is the quintessential assemblage of Argento’s brilliance and includes such masterpieces as:

Tenebre features a brand new 16x9 transfer, plus an all-new retrospective featurette;

Phenomena Special Edition (released in the U.S. as Creepers), starring Academy Award® winner Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind, Blood Diamond) and the legendary Donald Pleasence (Halloween series, The Great Escape, Escape from New York ). Remastered in 16x9 with an all-new retrospective featurette;

Trauma, starring Argento’s exquisite daughter Asia Argento (New Rose Hotel, XXX), three-time Academy Award®-nominee, Golden Globe® and Emmy Award® winner Piper Laurie (Children of a Lesser God, Carrie, “Twin Peaks”), Academy Award®- nominee Frederic Forrest (Apocalypse Now, The Rose, Tucker: The Man and His Dream) and Academy Award®-nominee Brad Dourif (Mississippi Burning, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the voice of “Chucky” in the Child’s Play franchise);

The Card Player, starring Stefania Rocca (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Dracula’s Curse) and IFTA Award winner Liam Cunningham (Dog Soldiers, Breakfast on Pluto, “RKO 281”);

Do You Like Hitchcock?, Argento’s personal homage to his life-long idol, starring Elio Germano (Napoleon and Me, Respiro) and Chiara Conti (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Marco Bellocchio’s award-winning The Religion Hour).

Each of these films boasts a variety of DVD special features, including audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes retrospectives, trailers and more.

In addition, Anchor Bay Entertainment will release the special editions of both Tenebre and Phenomena individually at an SRP of $19.97 each.

Argento was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2001 Amsterdam Fantasy Film Festival, the Maverick Tribute Award at the 2000 Cinequest San Jose Film Festival, a Special Award “FantaItaly” from the 1985 Fantafestival, the Time Machine Honorary Award from the Sitges – Catalonian Film Festival, and the 2007 Career Award from Flaiano International Prizes.

Argento’s career is going stronger than ever. He recently completed the long-anticipated Mother of Tears: The Third Mother, concluding the unforgettable trilogy begun in Suspiria and continued in Inferno, and he directed the segments Pelts and Jenifer for the award-winning Showtime series “Masters of Horror (available from Anchor Bay Entertainment). Argento is currently directing the thriller Giallo, which will be released later this year. The film stars Ray Liotta, Asia Argento and Elsa Pataky.

RAW FEED's OTIS hits DVD June 10th!

We've just received the press release for OTIS, the first of a new batch of RAW FEED films, which hits DVD shelves on June 10th, 2008. The new flick was directed by Tony Krantz (who helmed RAW FEED's SUBLIME last year) and stars Daniel Stern, Illeana Douglas, Kevin Pollak, Jere Burns, Ashley Johnson, Jared Kusnitz and Bostin Christopher. Read on for the full press release and synopsis. (We're working on getting the DVD front cover artwork) You can also click the frame below to read our FRIGHT exclusive interviews with RAW FEED directors Tony Krantz and John Shibin.

Synopsis - OTIS is a story of suburban America gone haywire. In the midst of a serial abductor/killer’s rampage, a beautiful young teen, Riley Lawson (Ashley Johnson), goes missing. When her desperate parents, Will and Kate (Daniel Stern and Illeana Douglas), are contacted by her kidnapper, an insufferable FBI Special Agent (Jere Burns) takes charge of the case.

But, from deep within the psychopathic subterranean world created by Otis (Bostin Christopher), Riley turns the tables on her tormentor, manages to escape and to contact her parents. Fed up with the tragi-comic inability of the FBI to find their girl, Will, Kate and Riley’s brother, Reed (Jared Kusnitz), decide to take matters - and justice - into their own hands. But when Otis’ brother, Elmo (Kevin Pollak), shows up unexpectedly, the Lawsons find themselves mired in one of the more unusual and macabre consequences of vigilantism.

Far from proclaiming ‘Mission Accomplished,’ the backed-in-a-corner Lawsons will further complicate their already deadly predicament with a surprising, unfortunate and frankly hilarious final choice.

S Extra Content (on both DVD and Blu-ray)

·         Commentary by Director Tony Krantz and Writer Erik Jendresen

·         Featurette: The Twisted World of Otis in which the cast and crew discuss how and why comedy works within the confines of the film

·         Suite 16, the home movie of Otis’  fantasies made by Otis himself

·         Alternate Ending which gives a starkly different tone and finality to the film.  It includes an introduction by Tony Krantz.

Do We Have LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT's Vengeful Parents?!

We just may! Variety reports that both Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter have been cast in the remake to LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. While the roles are unspecified, we can only imagine they'll be playing the vengeful parents of one of the girls held hostage by the convicts. While Goldwyn probably still gets shit for being the jerk in the tearjerker GHOST, he recently appeared as a murdering psychiatrist in DEXTER, a show he's gone on to direct several episodes of. Monica Potter's last genre offering was in the first SAW. (Remember that one, kids? Feels so long ago!)
The article also confirms Dennis Iliadis is directing from a script by Mark Haslett, Carl Ellsworth and Adam Alleca (DP on the short MEANS TO AN END). Wes Craven, Sean Cunningham and Marianne Maddalena are producing. Shooting is scheduled to begin this month in South Africa.

Just added! A FRIGHT exclusive interview with NEIL MARSHALL! If you're a devoted genre fan, then like us, you've probably been following the career of writer/director Neil Marshall. Just added! A FRIGHT exclusive interview with actor/director KEITH GORDON! I'm watching an episode of DEXTER & am surprised to notice the name Keith Gordon listed as this particular episode's director. Could it be? The same Keith Gordon that made his acting debut in JAWS 2? Played the lead in John Carpenter's CHRISTINE? Was in Brian DePalma's DRESSED TO KILL and the comedy BACK TO SCHOOL? Sure enough! Keith Gordon started his filmmaking career by acting but made the shift to directing almost 20 years ago. We figured his diverse filmography warranted closer scrutiny. So we tracked him down & he was more then happy to talk to us! Read on for our FRIGHT exclusive interview with Keith Gordon!

Just added! A FRIGHT exclusive interview with the original Leatherface, GUNNAR HANSEN! Over 35 years ago, outside of Austin, Texas, a group of filmmakers and actors accomplished something remarkable. With a shoestring budget, little in the way of experience, and conditions that were almost unbearable, they all combined their various talents to create "THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE". Gunnar Hansen, fresh out of school with a Masters Degree in English, was chosen to perform the unforgettable role of "Leatherface", one of horrors most frightening, disturbing, fascinating, and enduring characters.

Gunnar was able to take the time to talk with us about the legacy of "Texas Chainsaw", as well as his role in the upcoming satire of independant horror "Brutal Massacre", and offer us a look into the world of indie horror, and give us his insight into who we are as horror fans, and why "Texas Chainsaw" continues to intrigue both filmmakers and fans alike.

Showtime Networks and Marc Ecko Entertainment have partnered up to create an all-new videogame based on the popular award-winning show DEXTER according to a report from IGN. Whoa!? Marc Fernandez, the Vice President of Marc Ecko Entertainment said, "Dexter is the extremely rare TV show with enough layers of action and tension to translate perfectly into a compelling videogame. Our game designers, writers, and artists are going to give Dexter's morally complex world the kind of interactivity that gamers will love." The Showtime original series, DEXTER stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter and Julie Benz & is loosely based on the series of DEXTER novels by author Jeffrey Lindsay. The first season of the show recently premiered on CBS, while fans eagerly await the DVD release of the second season. DEXTER will return to Showtime later this year for it's third season. Looks like DEXTER's popularity is expanding!

A few weeks ago, Variety reported the official casting of several actors to the cast of FINAL DESTINATION 4, being helmed by FD2 director David Ellis from a script by Eric Bress. Among the confirmed cast is Shantel VanSanten, Bobby Campo, Haley Webb, (the gorgeous) Krista Allen (FEAST), Nick Zano and Andy Fiscella. We got one more name for ya! Justin Welborn, who played Ben in the recently released THE SIGNAL dropped us a line to let us know he's playing "the racist" in FINAL DESTINATION 4, a character who comes to a much deserved & horrible demise in FINAL DESTINATION 4 courtesy of "death". That's not exactly a spoiler considering rarely do any of the cast members survive a FINAL DESTINATION movie! He jokes with us, saying "Even though I'm technically playing 'the racist', it's just a character in a movie! I'm voting for Obama."
FINAL DESTINATION 4 is about to shoot in New Orleans and is planned for a 3D release sometime next year.

Also, Bloody-Disgusting has a slew of images from DANCE OF THE DEAD, another genre picture that Welborn appears in. (See poster below) http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/11481

Wow. Will Platinum Dunes ever make an original movie?! Well, apparently they're in post-production for THE UNBORN (which is an original) right now, but with THE BIRDS, FRIDAY THE 13TH and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET on queue, what's next? ROSEMARY'S BABY? ... I wish that was a joke. SHOCK is reporting that "Platinum Dunes is in talks with Paramount to update Roman Polanski's film starring Mia Farrow & John Cassavetes. Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form - are currently looking for a writer (or writers) to tackle the material."
Is... there really anything we more we can say? Vent in the comments below please...

The announcement was made today by Teri Weinberg, Executive Vice President, NBC Entertainment.

"'Fear Itself' will deliver memorable and horrifying moments that will keep fans on the edge of their seats, begging for more on this fun-filled ride of terror."

"We and our partners at Industry Entertainment couldn't be happier about NBC's enthusiastic support of 'Fear Itself' and the caliber of artists who have been drawn to the project," said Kevin Beggs, Lionsgate's President of Television Programming and Production.
