Box Office Mojo has listed May 30th, 2008 as the (presumably limited?) theatrical release of Stuart Gordon's latest flick STUCK (coming to you courtesy of ThinkFilm). Gordon, of course horror fans know as the filmmaker behind genre faves RE-ANIMATOR, FROM BEYOND and most recently THE BLACK CAT. STUCK stars Stephen Rea and Mena Suvari and was co-written by Gordon and John Strysik, based on a real life incident. Just... check out the early poster and trailer below to get an idea of what you're in for. "Tom Is Having A Bad Day" is definitely my favorite tagline of the year thus far!

Here's an image of THE BRIDGE novel I was able to find off Amazon.
According to the article, Lynch only commented by confirming he's "in talks" to tackle THE BRIDGE. Hell, I'm down for anything he does, so count me excited.

You can also see Lynch in the first episode of SHOCK TALK, along with ADAM GREEN, GEORGE ROMERO and GREG NICOTERO! Check it out HERE!

Ah! Well I remember rather enjoying the first STARSHIP TROOPERS. Didn't see the 2nd one. But now the 3rd's one's coming to DVD later this year, and Casper Van Dien (God Bless him) is back, reprising his role as Johnny Rico from the first. Hottie Jolene Blalock also stars. This installment was written and directed by Edward Neumeier, who scripted the first two STARSHIP movies and the original ROBOCOP. Take a peek at the trailer to STARSHIP TROOPERS 3: MARAUDER below!
Strange and unusual? Live in Pittsburgh? Free Sunday? Nala Films is looking for "inbred" looking folks for Julianne Moore's foray into West Virginian hillbilly horror, "Shelter", which is scheduled to start shooting in the Pittsburgh area in March, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Pittsburgh based Donna Belajac Casting is looking for men and women, all races 18 years or older, to audition to be extras, but they're looking for people who can give the film that certain "Deliverance"/"Hills Have Eyes" vibe.
While the film is shooting in Pittsburgh, it will take place in West Virginia/Appalachia.
"The casting call scheduled for Sunday invites "men and women of all races, 18 or older," to try out as extras, according to the announcement from Downtown-based Donna Belajac Casting. But the extras wanted for the West Virginia scenes evoke images of "Deliverance" and "The Hills Have Eyes."
Belajac says, "Some of these 'holler' people -- because they are insular and clannish, and they don't leave their area -- there is literally inbreeding, and the people there often have a different kind of look. That's what we're trying to get. "Extraordinarily tall or short. Unusual body shapes, even physical abnormalities as long as there is normal mobility. Unusual facial features, especially eyes."
Kids, feeling left out? Don't worry, Belajac is also seeking, "a 9-12-year-old Caucasian girl with an other-worldly look to her. Could be an albino or something along those lines -- she's someone who is visually different and therefore has a closer contact to the gods and to magic. There is a granny who is a 'holler witch' who does magical things, She's blind because she's ancient, and this little girl is her eyes. She needs to look odd. She either needs unusually eerie eyes or pale skin. 'Regular-looking' children should not attend this open call."
Here that, Mom? Round up the irregular kids and get 'em in pictures! Sound like your big break? Head on over: The casting call takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn North Hills, 4859 McKnight Road, Ross, PA this Sunday.

About his latest A GOTHIC TALE, Ritter tells FANGO, "It was originally inspired by three classic short stories: Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Tell-Tale Heart,’ Nathaniel Hawthorne’s ‘Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment’ and Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Markheim.’ When I first wrote A GOTHIC TALE in 1998, it had three completely different ‘chapters,’ each based on one of those tales. But when we set about actually making the movie all these years later, I found myself drawn more and more to the idea of weaving the characters’ lives together into one much bigger story."
What about that other flick with the bitchin' title? "I’m now producing LITTLE F**KER, a stoner-comedy/monster flick, and I was able to convince my friend Michael Muscal to direct."
Check out the first image of Piper, as well as more details on both projects at the original FANGO article:

Magnolia Pictures new genre arm, Magnet recently acquired the foreign film LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, a unique vampire tale directed by Tomas Alfredson based on the original Swedish novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist. She can't stand the sun or food and to come into a room she needs to be invited. Eli gives Oskar the strength to hit back but when he realizes that Eli needs to drink other peoples blood to live he's faced with a choice. How much can love forgive? She’s relieved when Thomas (Wes Bentley), a seemingly friendly security guard comes along and offers to help. Unable to get the engine to start, he invites Angela to share a small Christmas meal with him. She laughs off the invitation but it quickly becomes clear her situation is no laughing matter. Angered by her refusal, the psychopathic Thomas knocks her out and ties her up in his office. Coming to, Angela realizes that the only way she will live to see Christmas morning is to find a way to escape from P2. In 2005, Icons conducted an extensive interview with Ben, it's one of the interviews I'm most proud of on this site. Ben let us, at the time a little known horror site, spend nearly two hours on the phone with him talking about his life, his experience on "Creature", and the impact of the film over the years. Ben was a tireless advocate for the preserving the memory of The Gillman. I'll never forget my time on the phone with this horror legend, and I'll never forget how gracious he was with his fans:
"My favorite moments are with kids. I’m an education advocate. I’ve met kids at Chiller when they were 7 and they’re 17 now. I’ve watched them grow up because they come to see me every year. I asked them how do they know about this movie made 50 years ago. They’ll tell me they’re parents own a cassette. I’ll put my hand out to shake hands. I ask if they like school, get good grades. I say, "The only thing I want you to do is make me proud. Now point to a picture. I’ll autograph it.". I’ll slide it over and Mom and Dad will ask how much, and I’ll ask the kid when his birthday is, and I’ll say, "Today’s close enough."."
THE SIGNAL finally hits theaters THIS Friday, February 22nd, 2008 courtesy of Magnolia Pictures. Today, we've got an expanded look at the theater listings. Take a peek below to see if the movie is playing near you and GO SEE IT! Hollywood Reporter writes that for 2008 After Dark Films and Massify.com are going to be seeking fan input in the production of one of the upcoming "8 Films To Die For". They're going to be starting a competition where fans pitch ideas and vote on elements of the actual production, including marketing and the casting. Actors will also be asked to send in video auditions to be voted on. All of this will culminate with an online reality series documenting the making of the film. The contest who submits the winning pitch will be given a producer credit, participate on-set and in the reality series.

Original press release from Dark Sky Films: Dark Sky Films has partnered with A History of Violence producers Roger Kass and Josh Braun and horror impresario Larry Fessenden’s Glass Eye Pix to produce the original horror-thriller The House of the Devil, written and set to be directed by Ti West. Braun, Kass and Fessenden are producing along with Peter Phok as it was announced today by the MPI Media Group, Dark Sky’s parent company.
The film is in pre-production now in Connecticut, with casting commencing immediately and production anticipated to start in mid March. The House of the Devil was brought to MPI Media Group’s Malik Ali and Greg Newman via Marie-Therese Guirgis.
The House of the Devil tells the tale of a job gone horribly awry when a college girl answers a babysitting ad and gets much more than she expected. The House of the Devil is Ti West’s fourth feature film; his resume boasts the writing and direction of the critically acclaimed films The Roost, Trigger Man, and most recently, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever.
Larry Fessenden of Glass Eye Pix stated, “I am excited to be working with Ti again, and with this team and a few more resources. Ti’s ability to root his genre films in the rhythms and details of everyday life is what makes them resonant and startling. This one will be a doozy.”
Kass, who is producing through his Studio Bang banner, added, “I’ve wanted to produce a Ti West movie from the moment I saw the bats go rabid in The Roost, and teaming up again with Glass Eye and its aces crew on this one is a great follow-up to the energy we generated together on our last effort, Ilya Chaiken’s Liberty Kid.” Braun added, “This film is a horror classic in the making and we are excited to be working with MPI Media on this and hopefully future projects.”
In addition to steering A History of Violence to the big screen, Kass and Braun set up the graphic novel feature film adaptation of Button Man by John Wagner which is currently in development at DreamWorks.
Glass Eye Pix has been responsible for a slew of genre films, indie dramas and documentaries from such filmmakers as Kelly Reichardt, JT Petty, Ilya Chaiken and Ti West, as well as Fessenden himself (Habit, Wendigo, The Last Winter).

Here's one we don't know too much about yet, other then the intriguing title and the fact that rising screamqueen Elske McCain conceived, stars and executive produced this movie, JESSICKA RABID. The official first trailer has been uploaded to the My Space page, and as you'll see below, it's got a whole lot of naughty in it! The film was written and directed by frequent McCain collaborator Matthew Reel and is aiming for a release later this year. We'll keep you posted as we hear more. In the meantime, check out the trailer below or the official My Space page at myspace.com/jessickarabidmovie.
Roy Scheider, 2 time Oscar nominated actor, star of 1975's blockbuster "Jaws" has died at age 75. The AP reports:
"Scheider died Sunday at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, hospital spokesman David Robinson said. The hospital did not release a cause of death.
However, hospital spokeswoman Leslie Taylor said Scheider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital's Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years."
Rest in Peace, Roy.
![]()
You can read about Roy, and the making of "Jaws", in our December interview with the guys who recently completed "The Shark Is Still Working", a documentary on the making of "Jaws"
From his IMDB Bio:
"Lean, angular-faced and authoritatively spoken lead / supporting actor Roy Scheider obviously never heard the old actor's axiom about "never appearing with kids or animals" lest they overshadow your performance. Breaking that rule did him no harm, though, as he achieved pop cult status by finding, fighting and blowing up a 25-foot-long Great White shark (nicknamed "Bruce") in the mega-hit Jaws (1975) and then electrocuting an even bigger Great White in the vastly inferior Jaws 2 (1978).
Athletic Scheider was born in November 1932 in Orange, New Jersey, and was a keen sportsman from a young age, competing in baseball and boxing (his awkwardly mended broken nose is a result of his foray into Golden Gloves competitions). While at college, his pursuits turned from sports to theater and he studied drama at Rutgers and Franklin and Marshall. After a stint in the military, Scheider appeared with the New York Shakespeare Festival and won an "Obie Award" for his appearance in the play "Stephen D."
His film career commenced with the campy Z-grade horror cheesefest The Curse of the Living Corpse (1964), and he then showed up in Star! (1968), Paper Lion (1968), Stiletto (1969) and Puzzle of a Downfall Child (1970). In 1971 he really came to the attention of film audiences with his role in the Jane Fonda thriller Klute (1971) and then as Det. Buddy Russo (scoring his first Oscar nomination) alongside fiery Gene Hackman in the crime drama The French Connection (1971). His performance as a tough street cop in that film led him into another tough cop role as NYC Det. Buddy Manucci in the underappreciated The Seven-Ups (1973), which features one of the best car chase sequences ever put on film.
In the early 1970s the Peter Benchley novel "Jaws" was a phenomenal best-seller, and young director Steven Spielberg was chosen by Universal Pictures to direct the film adaptation, Jaws (1975), in which Scheider played police chief Brody and shared lead billing with Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss in the tale of a New England seaside community terrorized by a hungry Great White shark. "Jaws" was a blockbuster, and for many years held the record as the highest-grossing film of all time. Scheider then turned up as the shady CIA agent brother of Dustin Hoffman in the unnerving Marathon Man (1976) and in the misfired William Friedkin-directed remake of Salaire de la peur, Le (1953) titled Sorcerer (1977), before again returning to Amity to battle another giant shark in Jaws 2 (1978). Seeking a change from tough cops and hungry sharks, he took the role of womanizing, drug-popping choreographer Joe Gideon, the lead character of the semi-autobiographical portrayal of director Bob Fosse in the sparkling All That Jazz (1979). It was another big hit for Scheider (and another Oscar nomination), with the film featuring a stunning opening sequence to the tune of the funky George Benson number "On Broadway", and breathtaking dance routines including the "Airotica" performance by the glamorous Sandahl Bergman.
Returning to another law enforcement role, Scheider played a rebellious helicopter pilot in the John Badham conspiracy / action film Blue Thunder (1983), a scientist in the sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) simply titled 2010 (1984), a cheating husband who turns the tables on his blackmailers in 52 Pick-Up (1986), a cold-blooded hit man in Cohen and Tate (1989) and a CIA operative in the muddled and slow-moving The Russia House (1990). The versatile Scheider was then cast as the captain of a futuristic submarine in the relatively popular TV series "SeaQuest DSV" (1993), which ran for three seasons."

Because we're such big fans of fashion magazines here at Icons of Fright we thought we'd pass this tidbit along. Vanity Fair magazine will feature a photo spread of big-name stars recreating 11 famous stills from Alfred Hitchcock's films. Hey, no matter what you think of fashion rags, this does sound pretty neat. This photos and stars will include...
-Seth Rogan recreating the crop dusting from "North by Northwest"
-Jodie Foster recreating Tippi Hedren in the phone booth in "The Birds"
-Renee Zellweger as Kim Novak in bell tower from "Vertigo"
Also included, but whose recreations haven't been revealed yet, are Casey Affleck, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Julie Christie, Marion Cotillard, Robert Downey Jr., Ben Foster, Emile Hirsch, Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightley, Jennifer Jason Leigh, James McAvoy, Omar Metwally, Gwyneth Paltrow, Eva Marie Saint, Charlize Theron, Naomi Watts, and Tang Wei.
One of the photographers who shot two of the recreations, Art Streiber, explains, "“What makes these scenes so impressive is that they don’t last long in the movies, but they have become classic. They hold up 50, 60 years later, as stills, without dialogue. You know immediately what it is."
Vanity Fair has posted a behind-the-scenes video documenting the making of this photo spread here.. And you can get a look at Seth Rogan in the "North by Northwest" recreation here.

Jimmy the newspaper boy rushed over here to the Icons of Fright News Department late this morning. Rushing past my Gal Friday, he hollered loudly, "Mr. C, Mr. C! Big news!"
"Yes, yes, sure, sure, Jimmy, sure, sure. Now slow down there kiddo, there's a lady present."
"RKO is remaking "I Walked WIth A Zombie!" he blurted out, moon pie crumbs flying out of his mouth and across the room.
"What? Say listen, and stop the presses! That's big news, kid, big news! Good job, Jimmy, here's a nickel and pack of Lucky Strikes, now get out there kid find me some more stories! You'll be real news man someday, Jimmy, a real news man!"
Thanks to a deal, partly involving Twisted Picture, old-school (and I do mean old) studio RKO has formed Roseblood Pictures, with the intention on remaking 8 classic films from Val Lewton library. This includes titles such as "The Seventh Victim", "The Monkey's Paw" (Oh boy...), "Bedlam", "Body Snatcher", and "I Walked With A Zombie" (which is not about a leisurely stroll with a burgeoning horror director).
Why the sudden interest in dusting off these titles? RKO head Ted Hartley sums it's up, "The most successful ROI in the movie business comes from scary movies that get wide release and cost under $10 million."
Cheap and fast.

Regarding hearing the news of the NIGHTMARE remake, Englund said, "I think it's due to the great success of the Rob Zombie version of Halloween and I also liked a lot the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, even if I think the original by Tobe Hooper is perfect. Likewise, I consider the original version of Nightmare on Elm Street a classic of this genre, but I think there is always room for new interpretations by using the new tecnology. In the past, they were talking about a prequel. Anyway, I'm too old for this new version, otherwise it would be Freddie vs. Viagra..."
Asked weather he'd consider cameoing in the new Freddy flick? "It would be a lot of fun. I'm a great fan of Michael Bay, I took my nephew to see Transformers on the opening day and I think it was terrific. So, yes, I would be delighted to."
Robert also elaborated on his new film THE VIJ. "It's inspired by a short story by russian writer Gogol. We've taken many characters from there, but we departed from the original story. We've taking themes from the original, but the humour and the philosophy has been removed. In the original story, there is an argument among students in a village. They mention our plot, so we've taken that mention of the plot and made our movie out of it. A priest goes the village to save the rich man's daughter, who's cursed by the fallen angel, The Vij, the guardian of the purgatory, who came to Earth. So, we elaborated that and made it our basic plot story."

As George's birthday this week also coincides with the first NYC screening of "Diary of the Dead" this Wednesday Icons of Fright celebrates with a look back at some of our Romero-related interviews, articles and reviews from the past 4 years. Take a look!
Back in 2005 we tracked down the original Barbara herself, Judith O'Dea, and conducted one of the first interviews about Night of the Living Dead that'd she'd done in some time. Check it out:
Just a month later, we ran into 1990's Barbara when we interviewed Patricia Tallman, who starred in Tom Savini's NOTLD remake:
And what would a Romero film be without stunning special effects makeup? In Summer of 2006 we had the chance to sit down with KNB founder Greg Nicotero, who got his start working with Romero on "Day of the Dead", and would later work on "Land of the Dead", "Monkey Shines", "Diary of the Dead".
Also, be sure to check out Icons staffer Jysn's '05 article "Romero: More Than Just Zombies", which takes a look back at Romero's work outside of the zombie genre. "Martin", "Creepshow", "Two Evil Eyes", anyone? All classics.
