Join the HATCHET ARMY on My Space:
Following our FIRST LOOK review for Joe Lynch's WRONG TURN 2: DEAD END (starring Henry Rollins and Erica Leehrsen), it appears Fox is going viral for the marketing on the flick. The movie centers around a reality show being taped in the West Virgina woods. This video which recently appeared on You Tube is found footage from the pilot they were shooting!
We've just gotten in the official press release for Christoper P. Garetano's new documentary film, MONTAUK UNVEILED. (The follow-up to his acclaimed HORROR BUSINESS). The flick is being produced by John Brodie. You can check out the teaser trailer and press release below!
Filmmaker Christopher P. Garetano (Horror Business) will soon release his second feature documentary titled Montauk Unveiled.
Montauk Unveiled, which began filming in July of 2006, is the tale of alleged sinister and supernatural happenings surrounding a covert air force base in Montauk, New York. Camp Hero is now a defunct air force facility that has become known to conspiracy theorists and UFO junkies around the world as one of the birthplaces of today’s modern mysteries. The subjects of this documentary (including Al Bielick of the Philadelphia Experiment) claim that in the 1970s they were part of a series of outlandish tests and experiments including everything from aliens, time travel, UFO’s, mind control, and beings from other dimensions.
The project originated with co-producer John Brodie (Sins of Government, Horror Business) who met Garetano while filming Horror Business. “It was John’s fascination with this material that led to my fascination with the entire project,” says Garetano. “We all have a subconscious desire and a need for mystery in our lives. Montauk Unveiled will be the very first film of its kind in the sense that we will explore these mysteries on a practical level where most people should find a place they can relate.”
Brodie and Garetano traveled the United States to interview men who claim they were all an integral part of what is now known as the “Montauk Project.” The resulting footage is a wonderfully entertaining and informative study of our paranoia, our fears and our fascination with modern folklore.
Currently you can view the first of a series of trailers that will lead up to the ultimate release of the film in early 2008. Please visit the film’s official myspace site for the trailer and for more information:

"The story's pretty simple. A bunch of idiots head out to the Hamptons for a golfing-weekend bachelor party. Strippers show up and bad things happen. Then the bachelor’s fiancée shows up and really awful, truly perverse things happen. No bodily fluids were allowed to go unspilled. In fact, during production it struck me that we were quite possibly doing the first undead-on-human fellatio scene ever to be shot in the Hamptons." says Thomson. "If you want the super-duper nutshell version I’d say, 'Re-read the title.' It's not ironic."
Sometimes novice film makers are guilty of delusions of grandeur and know-it-all-ism and can be painfully pretentious douchebags. Not this one: "During the shoot—which was pretty grueling for everyone involved—I would often try to keep morale up by reminding the cast and crew that we weren’t just making an 'independent film'; we were making a SPECIAL EFFECTS EXTRAVANGANZA! And we were doing it in twelve days, at half a dozen locations, for about the cost of a well-preserved Yugo."
Now that’s true indie grit right there!
Brian goes on to add, "The film should be finished by the end of August. We’re very excited that Lloyd Kaufman from Troma Entertainment has agreed to do a little cameo role for us. As soon as that shot is in the can, we’ll be starting on the final mixdown."
And what’s next for this modern day Roger Corman? Maybe a romantic-comedy? Perhaps an adaptation of a Jane Austen classic?
"It’s still early the days but keep your eyes peeled for a little number called BIBLE BELT VIXENS OF THE APOCALYPSE. I’ll just say this: if the 700 Club could issue fatwas, I’d probably get one for BIBLE BELT VIXENS…"
Brilliant!
If you head over to the official site (www.meaculpapictures.com) you can check out the NEW "red band" trailer, stills and a really excellent production journal from Brian about the on-going process. If you are an independent film maker, you need to read this!

A forbidden place in the dark woods, a lady in white, something reflected in the headlights. Local legends, every town has them. Tales of murder and misery, of ghosts and spirits, stories that get passed down generations. On Long Island, the home of a burgeoning independent horror scene five filmmakers have collaborated over three years on “Lost Suburbia”, an anthology of local ghost stories that is half-fictional/recreation and half-documentary. Paul Natale directs the “Misery Loves” chapter of the film, which recounts the legend of Long Island's Mount Misery.
Mount Misery has numerous supernatural legends surrounding it. Paul's segment of the film focuses on the Overpass Suicides. Legend has it that in the 1970's four boys committed suicide off an infamous overpass on Sweet Hollow Road, and that if you go there at night you can still see the bodies hanging.
Creepy stuff? Sound familiar to a legend in your own hometown? Paul, now living in Paris, talks to Icons of Fright about his film, and universal nature of local legends.

CRADLE OF FILTH Vocalist Records Theme Song For Dario Argento’s Latest Horror Epic Mother of Tears: The Third Mother
Band Confirmed To Headline Bam Margera’s Viva La Bands 2007 Tour
Grammy-nominated, British shock rockers CRADLE OF FILTH have delved towards a new level of darkness. Vocalist Dani Filth recently recorded vocals for the theme song to Dario Argento’s latest horror/suspense opus Mother of Tears: The Third Mother. The song, entitled “(She’s) The Mother of Tears” was composed by Claudio Simonetti. Simonetti, a veritable legend among horror film scores, is also noted for penning music to such classics as Dawn of the Dead, Suspiria, Phenomena and several episodes of the popular series Masters of Horror.
Says Dani Filth on his experience working on the film, “'It was a real honor to be asked to work alongside Claudio Simonetti from Goblin, especially as it’s the last of a trilogy for a Dario Argento movie. The whole project has been very exciting to say the least. I received word that my services were being demanded of and I was especially delighted to have been given free reign with the vocals, both musically and lyrically, preserving the lush choir that forms the backbone of the chorus. The result is a four-minute homage to the last and most dangerous in a trio of powerful witches whose aim is to enslave the world. Having finished the song (which is intended for the film’s credits), I am now tense with anticipation for seeing the how the two work together... the film apparently rocks!”
Mother of Tears: The Third Mother concludes Argento’s cult trilogy that began with Suspiria (1977) and Inferno (1980) and revolves around the resurrection of demonic witches in Rome. The film stars Asia Argento (Land of the Dead), Udo Kier (Grindhouse, Rob Zombie’s Halloween), and Cristian Solimeno (Footballers’ Wives) and is slated for a late autumn worldwide release. It is rumored that this film may also be the last directorial outing for Dario Argento, whose horror career has spanned almost forty years and included such cult films as Deep Red, Demons and Tenebrae. This experience continues CRADLE OF FILTH’s growing trend of offering dark music to films and making the films rather darker. The band’s previous soundtrack credits include Underworld: Evolution, Alone In The Dark, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Ginger Snaps, and Faust.
CRADLE OF FILTH is also spreading the darkness over North America this autumn as they are confirmed to headline Bam Margera’s Viva La Bands 2007 North American Tour, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink. CRADLE OF FILTH is touring alongside some of Bam Margera’s other favorite acts, including CKY and up-and-comers Vains of Jenna.
Says the band’s outspoken frontman Dani Filth, “The Viva La Band's tour promises to be a great musical outing for Cradle, mixing it up with a very eclectic bunch of bands. Bam is a good friend of ours, and when we heard that he was putting together a tour that would hit all the major markets in America, we just jumped at the chance to be a part of his lunatic vision. Where CKY supply the heavy melodic groove, Cradle Of Filth as headliners will give the American audience the proverbial kick in the bollocks they so rightly deserve. Fall will never be the same again! Viva the damned!"
CRADLE OF FILTH is known for its singular stage show and is matched only by its indomitable, dark, heavy, ‘gothic romance’ rock music, which has been brilliantly displayed on the latest Roadrunner Records release Thornography. The album, which firmly planted itself on the Billboard Top 100 Chart upon its release shocked and awed America, as Entertainment Weekly deemed it “excellent” and “gruesomely themed.” Thornography’s brooding energy was accentuated by guest vocals by goth rock hero Ville Vallejo of H.I.M. and Doug Bradley (Pinhead of the Hellraiser film series and longtime CRADLE OF FILTH collaborator). A special edition of Thornography, featuring brand new music and video footage is currently in the works for an early October release.
CRADLE OF FILTH’s sinister music and outrageous stage show is primed to be the ideal backdrop to the imminent Halloween season. With the infamous Bam Margera behind the band and an arsenal of ghoulish mischief in tow, autumn is sure to be anything but ordinary.
Tour dates include:

Tom Woodruff Jr., effects supervisor and creature effects designer for "Aliens vs. Predator" sat down for a Fright Exclusive interview today with Icons of Fright. He couldn't share too many details on AVP2, but he did confirm that the film will carry an R-Rating:
"They're telling us we've got to be so quiet. It was actually disappointing that Comic-Con came and we could present or release anything, we're being very secretive. The big news is that it's an R-rated movie, and they've returned back that harder edge. The fans should be very pleased with it."

The 13 Masters of Horror Season One episodes, in alphabetical by director:
Dario Argento’s “Jenifer”
Steven Weber (“Wings”) stars in and adapts the shocking comic book about a modern-day Lolita, disfigured beyond description but possessing siren-like powers to enthrall the bodies and souls of men unfortunate enough to cross her path. Co-starring Carrie Anne Fleming (Good Luck Chuck).
John Carpenter’s “Cigarette Burns”
A film collector’s search for a notorious film leads to a cinematic conspiracy that stretches from life to death and from Heaven to Hell. Written by Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan, this unforgettable look at the dark side of artistic expression stars Norman Reedus and genre fave Udo Kier (Rob Zombie’s Halloween).
Larry Cohen’s “Pick Me Up”
A battle royale ensues along a desolate road between two serial killers who prey on unsuspecting travelers. Caught between these two psychopaths is Stacia, (Fairuza Balk, The Craft, The Waterboy) who will need to choose her ally carefully, lest she become another casualty in their deadly game of cat(s) and mouse.
Don Coscarelli’s “Incident On and Off a Mountain Road”
Based on Joe Lansdale’s short story and adapted by Stephen Romano, “Incident” pits Ellen (Bree Turner, American Pie 2), a seemingly defenseless young woman, against Moonface (John DeSantis, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World), a deformed and demented serial killer. Chained to the floor of Moonface’s horrific cabin with his unsavory roommate (Angus Scrimm, the “Tall Man” from the Phantasm films), Ellen must marshal all her survival skills as she races against the clock to escape a grisly fate.
Joe Dante’s “Homecoming”
The subject of intense debate ever since its debut, “Homecoming” blends zombie horror and contemporary political satire with chilling -- and timely -- results. Terror and scandal grip the nation when dead soldiers rise en masse to have their voices heard one more time during the Presidential election. Based on the award-winning short story “Death and Suffrage” by Dale Bailey and adapted by Sam Hamm (Batman), “Homecoming” stars Jon Tenney (“The Closer”) and veteran Dante collaborator Robert Picardo (“Star Trek: Voyager”).
Mick Garris’ “Chocolate”
Written and directed by the show’s Creator and Executive Producer, “Chocolate” concerns Jamie (Henry Thomas, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Gangs of New York), a newly divorced young man who inexplicably starts to experience brief and random sensory flashes from someone –and somewhere – unknown. Eventually, he discovers a horrifying secret that engages him in an erotic dance of death.
Stuart Gordon’s “Dreams in the Witch House”
Adapted from H.P. Lovecraft’s short story by Gordon and his frequent collaborator Dennis Paoli, “Dreams” spins the strange tale of college student Walter Gilman (Ezra Godden) who rents an attic room in a quaint but dilapidated building. When Walter accidentally uncovers the gateway to a parallel universe, he begins to suspect that he might be an unwitting pawn in a satanic ritual that demands the life of his neighbor’s infant!
Tobe Hooper’s “Dance of the Dead”
“Dance of the Dead,” adapted from the Richard Matheson short story, depicts a post-apocalyptic dystopia wherein re-animated corpses of former friends and enemies dance on stage at The Doom Room for the entertainment of the few that survived a nuclear holocaust. Robert Englund (“Freddy Krueger” from the Nightmare on Elm Street films) makes an unforgettable appearance as The Doom Room’s twisted MC.
John Landis’ “Deer Woman”
Blending humor and horror, “Deer Woman” stars Brian Benben (“Dream On,” Radioland Murders) as cynical detective Dwight Faraday who, while investigating a series of grisly murders, suspects that the culprit may be an ancient Native American mythological creature, bridging human and nature with deadly consequences. Written by John and Max Landis – John’s son.
William Malone’s “Fair Haired Child”
Starring Lori Petty (Tank Girl and A League of Their Own), “Fair Haired Child” spins the bizarre tale of a thirteen-year-old outcast named Tara who is kidnapped by a strange couple and locked in a basement with their teenage son Johnny. Determined to learn the reason behind the kidnapping, Tara forms a special bond with the boy, both of them hoping to survive the unrelenting night to come. Written by Matt Greenberg (Halloween H20: 20 Years Later).
Lucky McKee’s “Sick Girl”
Angela Bettis (Girl Interrupted) plays Ida Teeter, a dedicated entomologist, whose only respite from her loneliness is her love of bugs. When Ida falls for the beautiful but mysterious Misty (Erin Brown), she cannot believe her good fortune. But is there more than meets her eye? Both genre and gender bending, “Sick Girl” tells the sad tale of a rather unique love triangle between two women…and the bug that got between them!
Takashi Miike’s “Imprint”
Perhaps the most controversial of all the Season One episodes. Banned from broadcast due to its’ visual intensity, the DVD presents the film exactly as intended by its creators. An American journalist (Billy Drago, The Untouchables) searches 19th century Japan for a love he left behind years earlier. Spending the night with a mesmerizing but enigmatic prostitute (Youki Kudoh, Memoirs of a Geisha), he learns the danger of dredging up old ghosts and that sometimes the sins of the parents truly are passed on to their children.
John McNaughton’s “Haeckel’s Tale”
Based on a short story by Clive Barker and adapted for the screen by series executive producer Mick Garris in association with horror legend George A. Romero. When Ernst Haeckel (Derek Cecil) finds shelter in a secluded cabin deep in the New England countryside, he’s welcomed but with a warning: no matter what he hears outside, he must not leave. When he hears the cries of an unseen baby, mixed with horrifyingly guttural groans, Haeckel impulsively disobeys and becomes embroiled in an orgy of the undead. Jon Polito (Miller’s Crossing, “Desperate Housewives”) co-stars.
