Rob Zombie Returns with Mayhem, Carnage and..Clowns?; Poster/Trailer for 31!!
Rob Zombie is at his very best when he’s tackling an original story. While I did (and still do) think that HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES was a little too much thrown at you all at once, and focused more on style than substance, when Zombie returned with its sequel THE DEVIL’S REJECTS, I was a convert (I have those characters permanently places across my chest, I’m such a fan of REJECTS . With the momentum Rob gained from that film, he then tackled not one but TWO HALLOWEEN remake films, most of which left fans wondering if he had anything in him on par with his earlier films. He answered that question with what I consider a modern masterpiece of surreal filmmaking, LORDS OF SALEM. Like most of his other films, viewers were pretty polarized, some liked it, some didn’t. When it came time to throw viewers into yet another nightmare of greasepaint and mayhem, zombie announced 31, a film revolving around a group of kidnapped carnies, who must play a murderous game called “31”, in which killer clowns try to hunt and brutally murder them. Sign me the hell up.
Zombie has released the film’s debut poster, along with one hell of a trailer. If the film is ANY thing like the trailer, then we’re all in for one wild ride, when 31 hits theaters October 21st from Saban Films and Lionsgate. The film stars Sheri Moon Zombie, Malcom McDowell, Meg Foster, Elizabeth Daily, Sandra Rosko, and Richard Brake.
From the visionary mind of Rob Zombie comes the horrific story of five carnival workers who are kidnapped the night before Halloween and held hostage in a large compound. At the mercy of their captors, they are forced to play a twisted game or life or death called 31. For the next 12 hours they must fight for their lives against an endless parade of homicidal maniacs.
