They’re Here…Again. POLTERGEIST Remake Poster & Trailer Debuts!

Tobe Hooper’s (or Steven Spielberg’s, depending on if you follow credit or fact) POLTERGEIST was and is a highly effective, horror masterpiece. I recently revisited the film and found that even during the day, it’s still scary as ever and had me corner checking my own apartment. More than that is the film’s fully realized family dynamic. You absolutely care for these characters well being, and when the ghosts come out to play, the fear is heightened.

Like all horror films more than 10 years old, Hollywood declares a remake is in order, and the time has come for POLTERGEIST. There’s a glimmer of hope for this however in the form of producer Sam Raimi and director Gil Kenan (the scary-lite animated MONSTER HOUSE). The cast is peppered with the likes of the always dependable Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jane Adams, and Jared Harris subbing for the role of the late Zelda Rubinstein.

Not much seems to have changed for this update; suburban home built over a burial ground, kid devouring tree, terrifying clown, and communicating through a TV (here a large LCD screen). Can this stand on its’ own without relying on callbacks from the first film? Only time will tell, but for now, this is an admittedly wild trailer that has me a little more than curious.

Check it out for yourself below, and dig on the poster above!
