Original SAW Film Heads Back To Theaters This October For 10th Anniversary!!

saw_ver3_xlgGreat news for fans of the SAW franchise. In celebration of the original film’s 10th anniversary, Lionsgate is bringing the film that kickstarted both James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s careers back to the big screen this October. For one week only, fans can experience 2004’s SAW theatrically one more time, with an October 31st (Halloween) release date, with select screening taking place a night earlier, on October 30th. It’s no secret that SAW not only made James Wan a household director in the horror genre (which he’s breaking out of with the upcoming FAST & FURIOUS 7), but also started screenwriter/actor Leigh Whannell’s career as one hell of a money maker, writing hits such as the second and third SAW films, but INSIDIOUS and INSIDIOUS:CHAPTER TWO as well (Whannell has recently wrapped his directorial debut with the third entry into the INSIDIOUS series).

The SAW franchise has the title for the “Most Successful Horror Franchise of All Time” in the Guinness Book of World Records, and on a personal level, I’m a huge fan of the first and third films in the series, so seeing the original on the big screen again sounds like a lot of fun to me. What do you fright fanatics think? Will you be revisiting James Wan’s classic again?

Directed by Wan from a script penned by Whannell, SAW is a psychological thriller focusing on two men who wake up in a secure lair of a serial killer, with a dead body lying between them. The killer, nicknamed “Jigsaw,” leaves them tape recorded messages with details of how to make it out alive. The only way for one man to make it out alive is to do the unthinkable. The two men desperately try to find a way out, while also trying to figure out who’s behind their kidnapping.”

SAW was originally released on October 29th, 2004 to great financial success, spawning a multitude of sequels and making a horror icon out of its “Jigsaw” character.
