The big hold up all of these years for a new FRIDAY THE 13TH film has been due to “too many cooks in the kitchen” so to speak, but it looks like Camp Crystal Lake could be re-opening for business! In a major bit of random (but potentially excellent) news, it looks like Warner Bros. has given up their stake of rights for FRIDAY THE 13TH! Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jason has returned to it’s original home at Paramount, who is now free to develop sequels for up to five years.
This doesn’t guarantee we’ll see the iconic hockey masked-momma’s boy back to slash some campers, but it’s a step in the right direction. If Paramount chooses to fast track a new installment, would you prefer another reboot, or a sequel to Marcus Nispel’s remake? The ‘09 remake was quite successful, and the duo screenwriters behind it (who also scripted FREDDY VS. JASON) have had a sequel script (featuring a snow-set Crystal Lake!) ready to go for a while now.
