Magnet Releasing, who have already gotten my full attention with their upcoming slate of releases, such as KISS OF THE DAMNED, V/H/S 2 and HERE COMES THE DEVIL, have recently announced their acquisition of Jacob Vaughan’s horror/comedy MILO, which judging from the synopsis, sounds like a hell of a fun time.
“Duncan’s (Ken Marino) life is a real pain in the ass. Tormented by manipulative, crooked boss (Patrick Warburton), a nagging mother (Mary Kay Place), a deadbeat new age dad (Stephen Root), and a sweet, yet pressuring, wife (Gillian Jacobs), his mounting stress starts to trigger an insufferable gastrointestinal reaction. Out of ideas and at the end of his rope, Duncan seeks the help of a hypnotherapist (Peter Stormare), who helps him discover the root of his unusual stomach pain: a pintsized demon living in his intestine that, triggered by excessive anxiety, forces its way out and slaughters the people who have angered him. Out of fear that his intestinal gremlin may target its wrath on the wrong person, Duncan attempts to befriend it, naming it Milo and indulging it to keep its seemingly insatiable appetite at bay.”
So, just a recap: THE STATE‘s Ken Marino has a demon IN HIS ASS that comes out and kills anyone who pisses him off. I don’t know about you Fright Fiends, but you can definitely sign me up! I’ve been a fan of Marino’s since the days of THE STATE (one of the funniest sketch comedy shows ever, which also spawned most of the cast from RENO 911), and the premise reminds me of early Frank Henenlotter films, which as far as I’m concerned, is definitely a plus. The film recently premiered at this year’s South By Southwest Festival and was the last deal to be made during the festival’s closing night.
We’ll keep you all updated on any further information on the film, as it’s released.
