I am extremely late in getting this up, but this short is so fantastic I had to share it and help spread the word. THE SLEEPOVER is a proof-of-concept for a feature film about a town living “between the sequels” of its infamous masked killer. Basically, slashers are real, they hide in your closet, and they have no qualms with gutting cocky kids! Chris Cullari’s short was a runner up for best short at this years’ past Fantastic Fest, and recently was crowned the winner of “The Cabin In the Woods”/Lionsgate/Vimeo contest. Let’s hope these victories have helped lead to a feature, because I for one cannot wait to see this expanded upon!

I absolutely love the concept, and seeing the slasher mythology sort of grounded to be a part of living in this town is ingenious. Babysitters don’t just stumble into final girl defender here, they’re assigined ass-kicking heroines. The look of the killer’s mask is equally great and frightening, but the MASK (Mothers Against Serial Killers) sticker on the Mom’s van takes the creative cake!
