Something I didn’t really anticipate coming across was the announcement that Steven Monroe, director of the 2010 remake of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE would be returning to direct I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE TOO, a sequel to that film, but alas the story broke this week and details have recently been released.
“Naturally beautiful, Jessica has just settled into New York where she, like many other young women, is trying to make it as a model. But what starts out as an innocent and simple photo shoot soon turns into something disturbingly unthinkable! Raped, tortured and kidnapped to a foreign country, Jessica is buried alive and left to die. Against all odds, she manages to escape. Severely injured, she will have to tap into the darkest places of the human psyche to not only survive, but to exact her revenge…”
Though the synopsis, with the exception of the kidnapping to a foreign country and being buried alive bit, sounds a bit close to the remake and most of the other films of this type, I can’t help but be excited for this one. I attended a New Bev double feature of the original (which is one of my favorite films actually) and the remake before its official release in 2010 and while it had its faults here and there, I really enjoyed Monroe’s take on the Meir Zarchi exploitation classic. If this sequel to the remake were in the hands of another director it wouldn’t be too appealing in my opinion, but with Monroe at the helm again, it could very well turn out to be pretty good. Time will tell, but as of right now it sounds promising.
What do you all think? Have you had enough of the rape/revenge type of movies or like me, are you always interested in seeing victimizing baddies get their just rewards?
