While most people tend to roll their eyes at the mere mention of any well known title being remade, I think there’s been enough padding between Brian De Palma’s CARRIE in 1976 with it’s sequel THE RAGE: CARRIE 2 in 1999, followed by the made-for-TV remake in 2002 with Angela Bettis. If anything, with Kimberly Peirce (BOYS DON’T CRY) at the helm as director, along with Chloe Grace Moretz (KICK-ASS, LET ME IN) leading the cast as the new Carrie White and Julianne Moore as her mother Margaret White, I have a lot of enthusiastic curiosity for this new retelling of Stephen King’s classic story. Now, Entertainment Weekly got the first pics of both lead actresses as their characters straight from the set as the movie which is currently filming. And they look pretty great as you can see for yourselves!
Synopsis: The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc. Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version of “Carrie” earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.
