BEYOND FRIGHT: Thomas Jane Returns As THE PUNISHER In The Short Film DIRTY LAUNDRY!
Ever since word came out from Comic-Con that the RAW panel debuted a brand new short film which featured Thomas Jane reprising his role as The Punisher, I’ve been intrigued as all hell to see it and was hoping that it’d eventually surface on-line. Thankfully that wait wasn’t very long as it seems the director behind the “fan film” (as they’re dubbing it) Adi Shankar has posted it on You Tube. Did I mention Ron Perlman also makes a cameo?!
As you may or may not know, I’m a huge Punisher fan. While I enjoy aspects of all 3 versions, the 2004 one which Jane toplined is my least favorite and least watched of that bunch. However, I don’t fault Jane for that, whom quite frankly was probably the best actor that has tackled the role. I just didn’t like the particular movie he got to do, which had this huge tonal shift from the serious origin story to the over-the-top madness of The Russian sequence from the Garth Ennis run. Pick one or the other, you can’t have both versions of The Punisher in one film. In terms of the film that best represents the Punisher comics I personally like, PUNISHER WAR ZONE is my fave, as I explain fully in this review I wrote for the Amoeba Music website. I have always thought Jane was pretty great as Frank Castle, so it’s nice to see him pick up in what feels like a mini-sequel to his film. Check it out for yourself below:
Obviously a huge fan of the character and comics in general, it’s nice to see what Jane put together with some friends just for “the fun of it.” He explains, “I wanted to make a fan film for a character I’ve always loved and believed in – a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It’s been a blast to be a part of from start to finish — we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.”
What do you guys think?
