BEYOND FRIGHT: Cronenberg’s COSMOPOLIS & New Upcoming Projects!

The past couple decades Cronenberg has strayed from his body-horror roots that made us love and adore his films so much, but luckily his focus on other genres (A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, etc.) have been equally impressive and is a prime example of a director honing his craft. Cronenberg’s latest film COSMOPOLIS (based on the novel of the same name) was controversial not because of the subject matter, but due to the casting of a certain sparkly vampire named Robert Patterson. Word trickled out after COSMOPOLIS debuted at the Cannes film festival just last month with the reception being mixed to good, leaving me curious as ever to see how this unorthodox collaboration will play out.

Luckily we’ll get our chance very soon this August 17th, when the film gets a limited release courtesy of eOne. Check out the super wacky trailer below for a taste of what’s to come. Regardless of the quality of the film, it’ll be damn good to read the words, “Directed By David Cronenberg” flash on the big screen. Read on after viewing the trailer to see what else Cronenberg has cooking with Robert Pattinson & recent muse Viggo Mortensen!

EW & Vulture are reporting that Cronenberg’s next films will be two long in development films, including MAPS TO THE STARS & a sequel to the incredible Russian gangster outing EASTERN PROMISES. Robert Pattinson revealed that he’ll be a part of the former project along with Viggo Mortensen. Saying of the script based off the novel As She Climbed Across The Table , ““It’s about child stars, it’s very funny. It’s very, very dark.” If all goes accordingly , Mortensen will return as tattooed gangster Nikolai again in a sequel to the latter, EASTERN PROMISES. It’s certainly an exciting time to be a fan of David Cronenberg!
