Santa’s Coming Straight For You In SILENT NIGHT!
Look – let’s be honest here. I own all 6 SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT movies. I’m sure most of you do too. I even did a write-up for FearNET breaking down each movie individuality in the franchise (you can read that right HERE). With the exception of PART 2 which is a masterpiece that defies words, they’re not very good movies. So while every remotely recognizable horror title has already been remake, I don’t mind a “new take” on this one. I like the killer Santa motif and we need more Christmas themed horror films anyways! So I’m extremely intrigued by whatever director Steven C. Miller has got up his sleeves for this particular remake, which is now going under the truncated moniker of SILENT NIGHT. And while some sites have already got some cool exclusive pics of stars Jamie King and Malcolm McDowell (head over to FANGO to see ’em), I just wanted to share this bad-ass piece of promotional/conceptual art.
Here’s what I dig. The new title. Short, sweet and to the point. SILENT NIGHT. Radical. The killer Santa here appears to be wearing a Santa mask rather than just baring a resemblance to good ol’ Saint Nick. Love that, a killer wearing a Santa mask is extra creepy. Lastly, while I know SILENT NIGHT‘s killer Santa will indeed have his trademark ax in the new flick, for this artwork, he’s rockin’ a flamethrower. Mean ol’ bastard!
As mention above, the cast includes Jaime King (The Tripper, My Bloody Valentine, Mother’s Day) and Malcolm McDowell (Halloween), as well as Donal Logue, Jamie Kennedy, Brendan Fehr, Lisa Marie, Cortney Palm, Rick Skene and Ellen Wong. More when we hear it!
Synopsis: It’s a snowy Christmas Eve in Cryer, Wisconsin. The normally quiet town is bustling with activity as the residents are getting ready for the big day. The events take place around the town’s annual Santa Parade, which has brought a record number of Santas to town. Deputy Sheriff Aubrey Bradimore (King) is stuck reluctantly working the night shift, dealing with all of the drunken Santas, road closures, and stressed out locals — but things are about to take a deadly turn. A vicious serial killer, dressed as Santa Claus, has made his own “naughty list”, and anyone on it is in big trouble. As the body count rises, Aubrey races to discover the killer’s true identity – but in a town full of Santas, shady characters, and dark secrets, finding the real murderer will take more then a Christmas miracle.
