The Week (err.. or month?) In Horror! 4/11/12 Edition

Whoops! So almost a month has slipped by since our last “Week In Horror” column, but hopefully you’ve been entertained by Justin’s weekly Freddy’s Nightmares reviews? Well, we’re back! If you’re curious what’s new in DVD and Blu-Ray news, check out today’s earlier post right HERE. And here’s what’s been going on in horror the last few weeks:

HOLLISTON
has officially premiered on FearNET! For those unfamiliar, filmmaker Adam Green (HATCHET, FROZEN) is the creator of this new sitcom series which debuted 2 weeks ago as the first piece of original programming for the FearNET cable network. Loosely based on his first independent feature film “COFFEE & DONUTS” and partially spawned from the “Road To FRIGHTFEST” shorts Green did with WRONG TURN 2 director Joe Lynch (see ’em HERE), HOLLISTON follows the wacky exploits of aspiring horror filmmakers Adam & Joe who host a local cable access movie review show. If you’re like me and too poor for cable, no worries! I was able to purchase the entire season in advance via iTunes! (That link is right HERE!) If you want to have a few good laughs, relish in the fun horror cameos, not to mention the welcome appearances from co-stars Dee Snider and GWAR’s Oderus Urungus, HOLLISTON is definitely for you.

Personally I’m trying to avoid all trailers, reviews and any other potential spoilers for CABIN IN THE WOODS, but if you need another taste, here’s an exclusive clip that Yahoo is hosting:

As well as audiences reactions to CABIN IN THE WOODS. The flick opens this Friday April 13th!

I love Paul Verhoeven’s TOTAL RECALL as much as the next genre fan. Arnold Schwarzenegger is bat-shit crazy in it and it’s gory as all hell (thanks to Rob Bottin!), but since it’s been 20 some odd years, I am kinda OK with this updated remake starring Colin Farrell, whom I rather liked quite a bit in FRIGHT NIGHT. Here’s the first trailer for the new flick which opens theatrically August 3rd and co-stars Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston. Check it!

Check out this creepy trailer for PENUMBRA, from Argentine filmmakers the Bogliano brothers. It’ll be in Theaters and Available Nationwide on IFC Midnight Cable VOD and Digital Outlets (SundanceNOW, iTunes, Amazon Streaming, XBOX Zune, Playstation Unlimited) on April 20th.

Actress and comic-book writer Brea Grant (HALLOWEEN 2, HEROES) recently directed her first independent feature film which she co-wrote with co-star Vera Miao. But with the film now in the can, the primarily female fronted production need help covering all the post-production costs! For a sneak peek at the movie BEST FRIENDS FOREVER, as well as to see how you can help, check out the video below and hit up the Kickstarter page for the project HERE.

Speaking of independent productions, check out this teaser trailer to the gothic flavored Piranha Pictures feature A SWEET AND VICIOUS BEAUTY. The You Tube clip for the film describes the following: “Capturing the Gothic flavor of films such as the productions of Hammer Studios or Roger Corman’s Poe pictures, this movie is guaranteed to cause death of fright in babies, small dogs, dinosaurs (in theory), and Congressmen (over 65 only).”

Craziness. Anchor Bay announced a remake of SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT, helmed by Steven C. Miller and starring Malcolm McDowell. Written by Jayson Rothwell, the project is gearing up to start shooting later this month with a theatrical release planned just in time for X-Mas later this year. Color us curious.

And this is just cool. Are you a fan of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film REAR WINDOW? Check out this timelapse video of all the scenes from the movie:
