For the month of October, G4 hosted their first ever Epictober Film Festival – mashing up video game concepts as horror short films with up-and-coming genre directors at the helm of each of the 3 segments and Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Chillerama, The Knights Of Badassdom) producing. Mike posted the Donkey Kong inspired Kart Driver (a play on Taxi Driver) the other day, which features yours truly in a bit part as Luigi. But now that all 3 films have officially premiered, we thought you should check ’em all out!
THE HUNT: You’ve probably never considered the horror potential of the NES launch title, but director Sam Balcomb clearly has. In Balcomb’s dark vision of “Duck Hunt,” three hapless hunters come face to face with a monstrous entity keen on their demise. It’s the perfect film to get you ready for Halloween.
KART DRIVER: Drew Daywalt (Stark Raving Mad, MTV’s Death Valley) created the Centerpiece Showcase film, a tale of love, obsession and Mario. “Kart Driver” pays homage to Mario’s first love, Pauline and first nemesis, Donkey Kong. But don’t worry; you’ll recognize a few old friends here too.
THE BIRDS OF ANGRY: Closing the Epictober Festival is Gregg Bishop’s “The Birds of Anger,” an awesome mash-up of Hitchcock and Angry Birds. The Bacons are visited by their next door neighbor, Anne, who has brought them a lovely basket of eggs, but unfortunately, the birds want their eggs back.
FANGORIA’s got some cool mini-interviews with each of the directors that you can check out right HERE! Enjoy!
