Give Diablo Cody this: she’s honest. Rather than shying away from the failure of JENNIFER’S BODY, Cody addressed it in a discussion with iF Magazine.
Diablo thinks the marketing for the film was wrong, targeting males instead of teenage girls. She sees hope for the movie on DVD, and hopes it meets its audience there. She also claims that many people who hated it in theatres, but fell in love with it on DVD, have told her so on her Twitter.
She also discusses BREATHER’S: A ZOMBIE’S LAMENT, a project writter not by her, but Geoff La Tulippe. Her take on the living dead: “It’s a zombie love story. Zombies are so hot now, but I like to think it’s about the personal side of being a zombie and being ostracized.” Bringing a sensitive side to horror seems to be Cody’s emphasis.
Cody will also adapt the script for the novel Sweet Valley High, a Young Adult novel popular in the 1980s. She hasn’t gotten high school girls out of her system yet.
