Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers
Story: 11 years ago he changed the face of Halloween. Tonight… he’s back. Different Myers. Different mask. Confusing plot. Same little girl. Only now mute. Same old Loomis!
The Film Itself: I … honestly do not know WHAT to make of this film. Part of me liked the weird vibe and look of it. I ever kinda liked the weird Myers mask which most fans hated. But there’s more holes in this movie’s plot then in a screen door. Is Michael just laying around for a whole year between movies? Why is Jamie all of a sudden mute? How dare they kill off Rachel!? A fan favorite!!! Why’s the Myers house so out of control? Who’s the man with the steel boots? (Yea, yea, they try to explain that in Part 6, but how could you make part 5 with absolutely no inclination of explaining him?) The commercials promised Michael would be unmasked! (First off, didn’t he get unmasked way back in part one? And second… Bullshit! You could barely make out his face!) The tagline even reads “Michael lives… and this time they’re ready!” Who? Two cops guarding his house toward the end? Ok, anything good about 5? The opening pumpkin sequence. The sickle kill. The chase thru the house at the ending. And of course Loomis. Who spouts the best dialogue in the entire series in this one entry. Here’s an actual convo with Mike C. “Oh Loomis in Halloween 5 is my favorite Loomis… “Today someone dug up a coffin of a nine-year-old girl, Jamie. Jamie, you’re nine years old. What do you think he’s going to do with that when he finds you?” “I prayed that he would burn in hell. But in my heart, I knew that hell would not have him.” He’s batshit crazy in that one and I love it”. Thanks Mike. ‘Nuff said.
Special Features: This was one of Anchor Bay’s first special edition tin’s and at the time of it’s release, it was a pretty exciting package for Halloween fans. It comes with a great booklet full of never before published photos. There’s a great making-of feature with cast interviews. And the film looks and sounds as best as it possibly can. Sure the movie’s kinda crappy. But Mike’s Loomis quotes from above have motivated me to watch it again later tonight! – robg.
