Legendary Director Bob Clark and son killed by DUI driver

This is truly unbelievable. The LA Times is reporting that legendary director Bob Clark and his son Ariel were killed by a drunk driver last night on the Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades near where Clark resided. The driver was under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license and was hospitalized with minor injuries. (Of course)

The details from the original article from the LA Times are at this link:

This news is just… unbelievable. Myself and the rest of the Icons staff are completely heartbroken to hear this. Jay had maintained a friendship with Bob since his Icons interview back in May of 2005. We all had the opportunity to spend time with Bob in the 2 years that followed and he was always the sweetest, nicest, most humble man you could possibly imagine. He often talked to us in great detail & with such enthusiasm about his plans for his next movie, which would have had him coming full circle in his filmmaking career to remake ‘Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things‘. And now, it is an absolute tragedy that because of some irresponsible drunken douchebag, we’ve lost a truly wonderful man & a legendary filmmaker.

Every Christmas for the rest of our lives, we will probably always have multiple showings of Bob’s A Christmas Story. We recently all got together to screen the original Black Christmas which still to this day holds up as one of the scariest, most effective horror movies ever made. Teen comedy movies would not be what they are today if not for Bob’s movie Porky’s.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Bob’s family for their double-loss. I hope that a little justice is found in the outcome of this incident.

Rest in peace, Mister Clark. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for everything you’ve done for us.
